look, I get buying what you want. But when even the good reviewers AND the bad reviewers are saying this game is one step away from total shit....it is probably shit. Just the shit audio mixing that SkillUp mentioned is enough to make me hard pass on this game. let alone the myriad of other problems.
Hope they don’t cancel the IP entirely and instead make a sequel fixing all the problems the first one had If history has taught us anything it’s that 2nd games of most major franchises just stand out (i.e AC2, uncharted 2)
I wish ac1 had been more popular, we could've had a much better series if they kept the trend of game play, story definitely needed work but the game play was, and still is, the deepest in the series
That's exactly why I'm buying the game. This dev cares about this game. They just needed more time, help, and money. I'd support a dev who is passionate about their game even if it's lackluster rather than the money hungry hogs game developers seem to be these days. I'm going to support these devs by buying it at full price. I could wait for sale, but me giving them extra money is me showing my support.
Just beat the game, I agree with the points made about dialogue and questing having pacing issues. Like it was said in the video, crafting weapons and exploring are what this game does best and when you find your rhythm it is quite fun. That being said, I really enjoyed playing through Biomutant.
From what I can see the game looks great just for the looks I like this type of art style, it is the style I wish Monster Hunter had with this incredible detail.
I can appreciate the fact that this game is 100% free of BS. No monetization, no internet required, just start up and play. And I don’t know what game some of these commentators are playing, but this is far from a bad game.
@@RicardoMontania comparing a game like this to Hollow Knight and Stardew is absurd and goes to show you have no clue what goes into game development. Comparing a platformer and a pixel game to an open world rpg is completely asinine.
@@lukebyrne7946 Both were made by fewer people, do not have triple A price, and are actually good fucking games. This one looks like an alpha. The cinematics look like a PS2 game, has no sound feedback when fighting, it doesn't let you play for 1 minute without it interrupting with some stupid tutorial or garbage narration, it's an overall bad product for the PRICE. If it was like 15 bucks ok, understandable. But god damn 60$ for this type of game? It deserves the criticism.
I pre-ordered it, and even after watching multiple bad reviews on it I'm still glad I did. Most of the stuff that people are hating about it are things I'm not worried about. All I want from it is a big open world to explore, find loot, level up my character, and beat up bad guys in interesting ways. From everything I've seen that's exactly what this game delivers. So thanks for the review!
I’ve not been able to get into a game like this for a long time. It’s unique, the exploration. Like Jake said you can get lost in it. It’s a chill and fun game. If they’re a small team I tip my hat to them. Had a real god time playing this
@@luiz_flores except that hollow knight would be considered nearly unethical coming from a AAA company with the amount they worked on it. Itd be almost like lemonsky hard carrying most of the develpment while still remaining good. Plus its a very different game going for a different atmosphere. a traditional metroidvania doesnt need text at all to be good much less voice acting beyond entity noises, just look at super metroid, its almost purely atmospheric storytelling. This is an open world hack and slash which... i mean either dont have story or you do, and it feels almost obligatory that theres at least a voice saying something, especially if its done outside of a cutscene. That and theres the benefit of likely not being reworked all the dang time because it was in development hell with a lot of people contributing
@@luiz_flores False equivalence, you are a talking about 2d indie game funded by Kickstarter, not to mention they got themselves as voice actors wich is as budget as you can get.
Whatever fk the reason, the mono one voice dialogue throughout the game is crap. I got sleepy in less than 30minutes. Its like watching a kids bed time story or something. I would highly recommend this game to parents tho.
I’m buying the game, let publishers know there’s still a market for mindless fun like this. Not every franchise starts off big and iconic, sometimes they don’t form an identity until the second game. (Jak and Daxter) Buy this game, support the devs so they can make a second one and show us what they can really do with this world.
Same but personally I'm going wait for a sale just because I'm not sure if I will like the game or not but it looks like mindless fun which I do want every once in a while
Absolutely love the aesthetic and setting of this game. It is understandable that we shouldn't expect the level of openworld detail from the like of GTA, RDR or FO, but sometime I just want a game to enjoy its world and sceneries.
In my opinion, this feels like a Fallout game - or Skyrim - in that the story is weak and some of the NPCs are shallow, but the world is the real star and your time spent in it is the real draw. Add to that the best kung-fu stuff I've seen in a game since Jade Empire and soooo much fun with classes, combat and crafting, and this is a real hit for me. Plus, an indie development team of 20 people made this! Give them some fame and money and who knows what they could turn out next game?
You're trolling, the combat does NOT have any weight to it, it feels like you're hitting air all the time, enemies have the same 2 attack patterns EVERY GODDAMN time. There is nothing to do, every npc says the exact same thing just worded a little differently, the narrator constantly talks over every action you do, the only real stat worthwile is HP the rest just feels like it does nothing, the game is total garbage and it's being sold at that price, it's pathetic
@@michska53 I second this comment heartily. But then again, there are people who played less actions games/ARPG/fighting games... Or Have low or 0 expectations... I'll rate this game a 2/10. The 2 is simply the effort time spent on placing the biomes...with unreal engine. Let's face it, all games will look nice with unreal. So pls dont give them more credit than they deserve on the graphic department. It's a given. Also, i cant believe THQ did this. They are a crying shame from the THQ i know from the past.
I can understand the fact about the narrator, its actually a really smart feature that experiment 101 added, because of the fact that their development team isn't that big to voice each of the characters. Adding the whole speaking in their native language and having a narrator translate it for you is a really smart solution in my opinion
Would have probably been better to copy the nintendo formula of just having subtitles while the characters are speaking gibberish like in animal crossing or legend of Zelda.
I think it takes away from having memorable characters or personalities, moments that add to pop culture and “advertise” this game. I agree that is a nice stylistic choice, it’s just one of the drawbacks. I’ll still enjoy it
Not hearing about any game breaking bugs from multiple reviews is a big plus given other recent launches. I would love for this game to succeed and spur a sequel or even multiple sequels.
@@foreverhumanpodcast We really shouldnt, alcohol causes a huge amount of problems. I abused it for about 7 years, now im sober and i wish it was a schedule 1 drug.
Agreed! The other reviews are negative and comparing the game to other open words as if they have evidence that this game is inspired by them... Jake as usual does a great job breaking down the game and remaining positive that the experience is good but has its flaws.
Yea a lot of the reviewers are high action people that just want fast consisten action but I feel like he explained it for both the zen and high action players, I mostly wanted this game for a change or to have something to just explore and be laid back about, not have to worry so much over a game just something simple and I feel like this game is going to do a great job at that
I bought the game before seeing any reviews and I don't regret it at all. You said it best, man. It's not perfect but it's not terrible. I hate seeing some of the other reviews this game is getting over such menial things. It was a small studio's first game and honestly they did pretty damn well. Hopefully it'll get polished up within the year and the "Mixed" review status on Steam will work its way up.
This is a great B side game kind of like Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, you just turn your mind off and enjoy it for what it is Edit: I'm not saying the games are very similar, I'm saying that they're both games that aren't masterpieces but aren't bad neither
Bro I loved reckoning. That alone is why I'm going to play this game. I went in reckoning not knowing much about RPGs so it made it a huge impression on me. I hope I can learn to love this game yoo
This is the best review of the game I’ve seen. It’s really open minded and also let’s you become aware of flaws while also not trashing on a game made by a small indie team.
Lot of you are taking the reviews not positively reviewing the game as them just looking to trash it. Being a small team doesn't give them a free pass to take our money and then for us to keep our mouths shut. The reviewers found different things they viewed as flaws and they touched on them. Personally a lot of points said about combat I completely agree with. And if the world truly does feel empty with lack of interactions then that's also a negative for an open world.
Let me get this straight: A small indie team charging AAA prices should be criticized on their company size and not on quality provided? What universe is this?
Bruh they are charging $60 for this trash. Do t cut them any slack. They are being greedy fucks. Studios are ho value their games and their fans know the value of their game. And this trash as dev knew that the game was going to flop and what did he do, he’s charging full AAA price. Fuck em
@@gustavoroque8830 Sometimes these prices aren't determined by the company btw Nintendo/Playstation have histories of forcing a specific price for developers. Selling on multiple platforms on launch is also extremely expensive these days, as you pretty much have to reprogram the game for each platform to meet requirements. Large companies have full teams dedicated to each platform launch... Gigantic having to change platforms 3 times added 4 years to it's development.
The art direction seems a bit all over the place. The characters and world look really detailed and awesome, then you have those comic book action words and a ui that looks like fortnite. Neither is bad but they just don't really go together
I'm only a couple hours into the game but so I'm loving it. When I got into it I mostly came in to discover a new world. To be honest it's a pretty fun open world.
Reviews and review sites have become a literal cancer with No mans sky, Fallout 76 and Star wars...they do EVERYTHING to keep the money flowing and the light shining. They wanted to convince people Cyberpunk is the worst game this decade do i need to say more? They tried to tell you FIFA and Madden are good games...more? The money and views this scene got because of Starwars and P2W and all....it just completely corrupted the entire thing. smh. I mean when IGN is the peak of the pile...you know you listen to these people at your own peril. "angry joe" one of the most known people on youtube. And his channel is LITERALLY DEPENDANT on thrashing games. People complain when he's not ripping a game a new one at least once a month...soo OF COURSE hell stay impartial. I totally believe that!
This was a very fair and well-thought-out review. I wish the other reviews I saw put half the effort in that you guys did. This makes me want to get the game, yet lower my expectations so that I have fun but don't get disappointed by it's flaws. Thanks for the time you put in. My only concern is the pricing. If they had made the release price 50-75% of the price they went with then more people would have been willing to take the risk, myself included.
Im getting it today for just £15 GBP. Seems to have dropped a lot which is good because it means im willing to try it out (ive been following it for years so really looked forward to it). Still upset the studio surely must have not made much money back for the game.
I’m just happy there is still people who enjoy things for what they are instead of hearing their favorite reviewer say they hate it and then just begin hating it themselves.
When this game was first announced I had hype. That died down and I was adamant I would not enjoy this game. But after seeing a bunch of reviews and gameplay I have decided to get the game. Still no hype, going into it with a open mind. This was made by a small studio of 20 and from what I see they have made a great game for the size of the team. Is the price high? Yes - but I see the potential of a sequel becoming one of my favourite RPGs if done right. That's why I'm supporting this game. And even if I dont like it my child in a year or so might

No, you’re not alone in this matter. Most of those people are just too busy playing this game and I just came here to check one of detail that wasn’t explained at the beginning but is kinda important to me(your look changes with your stats while creating character but it stays the same later on no matter how much you’ll change your stats by leveling).

It can just be a fun game. How can a game where you can play as a cat-squirrel that can do gun kata and ride a robot horse be *boring*?
True, not everything needs to be a masterpiece. But because it’s $60 US, it’s hard not to compare it to other games that are worth that same price. And there’s plenty of those that are better than this one.

I was waiting for this game, then when the reviews came in, I was kind of disappointed. After a bit of thinking, I took it anyway. And I definitly don't regret it. I think this video resumes perfectly the game, for those who hesitate. It's definitly rough around the edges. Lots of things not explained and you have to figure out (or just watch YT videos). Storytelling is lackluster and quests a bit repetitive. Menus can be overwhelming at first. It really misses a 'compare' function for the gears and weapons, and a lock for the combat. Getting a biomutant ad on a video about biomutant before it starts is peak TH-cam experience. (edit) >there was the same ad for the game at the end also
I love this game so much! The developers created a game for people like me that enjoy exploring &, more importantly, getting lost in a world without being able to just skip through everything. So many games today cater to players that seem to only care about seeing the end credits asap but Biomutant makes you have to play through the entire game instead of giving you a way to skip through whatever you want. I understand that's not for everyone but it's everything I've been missing in games for a decade or so.
In my opinion it’s pretty bad, the voice actor is decent and it’s really repetitive. It’s doesn’t really excel at much. The abilities are different but they don’t change up the gameplay. Honestly I think Jake is being a little too nice to this game. Honestly this game is priced at 60 dollars and isn’t even worth the price.

God this is such a dumb comment. IT'S ABOUT HOW YOU IMPLEMENT THE REPETITIVENESS TO KEEP IT FRESH. IT'S WHY IT'S CALLED A CORE GAMEPLAY LOOP. Gameplay loops can also be enhanced by world design, enemy encounters, upgrades, rewards for the player, risk/reward systems, overall design, playing to the instincts and assumptions of the player. Everything culminates in a core gameplay loop. If one or multiple of those things falters then your gameplay loop doesn't work and it becomes boring. Use your head.
From what I've personally seen from reviews and the like: Wait until it goes on sale, or see if it gets some worthwhile content updates. As it stands, 60 bucks may be a bit too much for how it is currently.

Just my opinion, the game is so unique and I love the open world and btw if you go to video settings and put "performance" on the graphics it makes the game so much more beautiful and so much more crisper and beautiful!! 50 hours in and I'm at 70% completion of trophies!! I'm definitely gunning for platinum!! I'm at 40/47!!! This game has it flaws but it's so much fun playing the open world and designing your character and combat!! The perks, classes, wung-fu, crafting, gliding, the tribes, the world eaters, tribe weapons, the mounts, aura, and so much more!!!
This series could become the next Fable I feel like. Like, the world has this grandeur, and there's the witty narrator, and a lot of exploring... Hope they get to do another to really knock it out of the park.
Dude i was thinking the same thing. The experimental features and the sheer imagination reminds me alot of fable 1. The game was lackluster in some ways but the lore and the magic sucked me in. Then came fable 2 which was the most fun ive ever had playing video games as a kid.
The only problem I see with the game is that it’s a little overwhelming how big the world is and how many different areas you can’t go into until you get the right suits. But other than that it’s an amazing game that I have been addicted to since I got it. I’m probably like 30 hours in and I’m only like 10% done with the game. And to be able to craft your own weapons from scratch? It’s so awesome and I love the combat and the world is beautiful. I think they did an amazing job
I have finished the game, it really gets better and better the more far you get into it and the combat gets much more intresting. I think people judge this game in the first 2 hours which is a shame that so many people buy it and wont experience this marvelous game
I'm still just as excited as I was before. I just want fun exploration and descent combat. Botw has very basic meh combat, no story, lame side quests... I was really hopeful for this game but it looks like I'm gonna wait for a deep sale. I know not every developer can be AAA, and that's fine, but don't charge full price for a game if it can't compete. That said I still think Biomutant was an awesome idea.
hey ermm Mass Effect Remaster has broken lights, shadows, shaders, textures, entire missing skyboxes, broken facial animations, worse AI and a lot more, so all in all its worse then originals yet it has a higher score then this game (and no gaming journalist mentioned it) sooo... relax and don't trust gaming journalists ;)
@@artofox that's comparing apples and oranges man. My critisim is more in line with games going up in cost moving forward because "budget". If you're can't compete with mega devolpers don't charge full price because you set expectations. Additionally Mass Effect is riding it's legendary status with the legendary edition. I have it and it definelty should have been touched up more but for 3 games at $20 a piece it's more palatable for me. Still love the concept for Biomutant and if it was $40 I'd have bought it 100% regardless of reviews.
Well i mean even in recent years Id say a large portion of AAA have similar issues with their games. Especially in the open world market. From bland quest systems to lack luster characters.
All these reviews seem to imply that the devs will never update their game..I doubt they would just abandon it after release. I'm sure they could make it better with a few patches.
I was thinking the same thing. NMS revamped its core systems without the need for a sequel or paid DLC... It's possible, and yes that was also a small dev house. They might be the outlier, but they also prove there's always hope.
@@cazador8744 Well they had the pressure to do it considering most of the stuff they promised wasn't in the game and was made up. Plus it took them like 3 years to do that? And by the time the did fix it the player count became decent at best (which for a game that had similar hype compared to cyberpunk isn't really good).
I started off having little interest in this game, but as it got closer, I found myself anticipating more an more. It's just a game that stands out. Honestly, it has some amazing and refreshing ideas, and it really reminds me of something like Psychonauts. It's just out there in a lot of ways, it looks good, has quirkiness. But there's so much that just misses too, that it's sad. Combat really needs some refining. It can have amazing moments, but also be a total frustrating, tedious, and boring experience. I think their crafting is spot on though, it seems to have a ton of depth and flexibility, so I love that. Exploration seems pretty good too. But like you said, it needs more to latch on to for those who want that, and a more compelling story. I also feel from what I've seen and looked into, that the character system, while cool on the surface, is just very lackluster. Classes need more. The starting stat choice and effect that has on appearance is negated completely later on, which is both good and bad, but defeats that early choice removing any weight. And skills, leveling, all of that feels so plain, boring, and honestly mostly unnecessary. I feel like the game could have done better without classes, in it's current state. But I really think there needs to be more depth added to every class, or them removed and a lot more depth (and stat requirement) added to skills. I'd love some sort of skill tree, or sphere grid, something that adds more of a need for decision making. Overall, it's got great bones, a great aesthetic, and a lot of uniqueness, but it falls way to short on the things it needed to hit, the things that make it a game and an RPG. I'd say pick it up on sale for like $15-$20, in it's current state, and it's probably worth that.
This is simply an amazing game. Everything is easy to do from using weapons, crafting weapons, crafting armour etc. It has a beautiful open world. I read some reviews bashing the game but I decided to play it and decide for myself and i freaking loved the game. I want to go back and play it but there are other games out there that I want to play.
@@trill_tyler_1238 That's true but not everyone has the money to spend willy nilly. Of course sometimes when something looks good and you are excited for it (and there is a preorder bonus) you cant help yourself and buy it anyways.
This game almost gives me State of decay vibes in terms of the first one feeling almost like a first shot that had some quirky newbie charm to it. The second game was a Biiiiig step up so who knows, maybe this will pave the way for them to fine tune and expand on things.
@showbizonastick so them wanting to buy a game that will bring them joy is being a sucker? Why are you so upset that they’re actually enjoying a video game lol.
Personally I love this game. I don't see why a lot of people hate it. It seems all they want to do is rush through the game and finish it as soon as possible which is not suitable to this game. In this game, you need to stop and listen every now and then. The questing may look repetitive (which I do agree) but it is the World-exploring that goes into the questing part which balance the game nicely. You don't just go to an area similar to the last one. Every quest area could have different conditions, enemies, situations to overcome and so forth. The weapon and armor modification systems are very good as well, allowing you to create your own unique weapon early in the game which can help you greatly. I have personally created a shotgun which has an increased damage up to 900 per shot and it really helps out early in the game (after the first Worldeater).
we seemed to enjoy it more than other reviewers but it's still rough. thanks for checking out this video - we really really appreciate it. 🍕

Hope they don’t cancel the IP entirely and instead make a sequel fixing all the problems the first one had
If history has taught us anything it’s that 2nd games of most major franchises just stand out (i.e AC2, uncharted 2)
I wish ac1 had been more popular, we could've had a much better series if they kept the trend of game play, story definitely needed work but the game play was, and still is, the deepest in the series
Titanfall 2
That's exactly why I'm buying the game. This dev cares about this game. They just needed more time, help, and money. I'd support a dev who is passionate about their game even if it's lackluster rather than the money hungry hogs game developers seem to be these days. I'm going to support these devs by buying it at full price. I could wait for sale, but me giving them extra money is me showing my support.
Hard to justify a sequel if no one buys the original
Halo 2
Just beat the game, I agree with the points made about dialogue and questing having pacing issues. Like it was said in the video, crafting weapons and exploring are what this game does best and when you find your rhythm it is quite fun. That being said, I really enjoyed playing through Biomutant.
that and the designs
What can u do after u best the game
From what I can see the game looks great just for the looks I like this type of art style, it is the style I wish Monster Hunter had with this incredible detail.
I can appreciate the fact that this game is 100% free of BS. No monetization, no internet required, just start up and play. And I don’t know what game some of these commentators are playing, but this is far from a bad game.

Stardew valley and hollow knight deserve this comment, this game doesn't, it's garbage
Who cares when it's still a triple A price.
@@JakenBake-JP Exactly.

I highly recommend ACG, that man makes the best reviews imo, to be precise ones that aren't two minute long or filled with sponsored bullshit

Im sorry for not knowing but who is Jake btw? 👀
I’ve not been able to get into a game like this for a long time. It’s unique, the exploration. Like Jake said you can get lost in it. It’s a chill and fun game. If they’re a small team I tip my hat to them. Had a real god time playing this
Seems like having a single narrator was less of a "creative decision" & more of a budget decision. Voice acting would take this game to another level.
tell that to hollow knight. if you're creative enough you can always achieve even higher than whatever budget you got

Yep I agree . Kinda the same thing with assassins creed 2 or uncharted 2.

A better comment was never written
Also: Biomutant, better than cyberpunk, thats for sure
How can the world be the real deal when there's literally 0 activity inside it? It's barren, there's absolutely nothing to do in it
You're trolling, the combat does NOT have any weight to it, it feels like you're hitting air all the time, enemies have the same 2 attack patterns EVERY GODDAMN time.

Right i will enjoy that. People are talking shit about what seems like great 'voice acting' if u can call it that, but enjoyed outriders. Smh

Fuck em
Most the people who will disagree with this have never even programmed a phone app.
@@gustavoroque8830 Sometimes these prices aren't determined by the company btw Nintendo/Playstation have histories of forcing a specific price for developers. This makes me want to get the game, yet lower my expectations so that I have fun but don't get disappointed by it's flaws. Thanks for the time you put in. My only concern is the pricing. That's if they improve it at all. Could easily just leave it a shambles.
@cnmmd qiuoo Have you seen the state of the dialogue? You literally talk to people just to cancel the conversation. Everyone says the exact same things. Not to mention all the quests are the same "go here and collect this."

This game looks great. It’s not a massive blockbuster with high expectations like another game that fell short this year. It just looks fun. Not everything needs to be a genre defining masterpiece. It can just be a fun game.
How can a game where you can play as a cat-squirrel that can do gun kata and ride a robot horse be *boring*?
Such things can get boring over prolonged periods.
All in the execution.
Play it, you will soon find how these things can become boring..
True, not everything needs to be a masterpiece. But because it’s $60 US, it’s hard not to compare it to other games that are worth that same price. And there’s plenty of those that are better than this one.
It actually is a massive blockbuster with high expectations since they marketed and sold it as a AAA game ..... sorry to bust your bubble
@@rigormortis8139 marketed and sold as =/= AAA.
Look up more than one definition lol
It's AA at most.
A studio/game with a bigger budget than an indie but a smaller budget than a AAA (triple-A) studio is a AA game.
That fits the criteria.
But then you start to get into it. You upgrade your character and gear. The crafting is really deep and interesting. You get a grasp of the combat system. Exploration is great. The art direction very original.
All in all a very nice experience.

Bro honestly this game is so fun, there’s so many other open world games that are just as generic as they’re making this out to be. I’d rather play this than some assassins creed game or any of the new rpgs. The combat is fun and they have so many different combat styles, the world itself is great and has beautiful settings. Reviews like this are why I take them all with massive amounts of salt. Want to talk about repetitive? How about them Souls games they seem to like so much. Or every multiplayer shooter. Or, really ruin your day, life.
@H.P Lovecraft he's got a point, though. Souls is a repetitive game. But people love them. Nothing wrong with that
The gameplay loop in a souls game is solid though, that's the key difference here.
A good gameplay loop will make repetitive gameplay fun.
@@Giliver true. But Biomutant combat looks fun to me, so the repetitive nature of the game won't bother me personally I don't believe.
@@Giliver I agree, repetitive can be a bad or good thing, but just saying something is repetitive isn't a good argument. You need to elaborate more, which this review didnt do
God this is such a dumb comment.
From what I've personally seen from reviews and the like:
Wait until it goes on sale, or see if it gets some worthwhile content updates. As it stands, 60 bucks may be a bit too much for how it is currently.

Dude i was thinking the same thing. The experimental features and the sheer imagination reminds me alot of fable 1. The game was lackluster in some ways but the lore and the magic sucked me in. Then came fable 2 which was the most fun ive ever had playing video games as a kid.

All these reviews seem to imply that the devs will never update their game..I doubt they would just abandon it after release. I'm sure they could make it better with a few patches.
In other words wait for sales because by that time game will have many patches. Even though this game needs more than just patches to make it good
You cant update core mechanics.
@@Qlicky no man's sky did it for years LOL
Another great "average" game. I'll get it on a sale.
I bought it like a dumb ass….Bc I don’t watch or read reviews anymore. But the one time I wish I did…was now. Back to mass effect legendary edition.

Honestly, they probably hate it because furries have made art on it, let them hate i say, nothings gonna stop me from creating my art on this game
