A Nihility unit that can inflict Freeze would essentially accomplish that due to how Freeze advances enemy action forward by 50% when it wears off. Double the turns an enemy takes while reducing their damage.
On top of needing a 5 star Physical DoT, a lot of people aren't considering that DoT can only truly become universal once we have DoT chars for elements that don't have a built-in DoT. With how Arcana and Ashen Roast work, they deal Wind and Fire DoT respectively but only count as Wind Shear and Burn for the purpose of other mechanics. They are not Wind Shear / Burn themselves, they are two entirely different DoT status that *behave* like them, otherwise enemies immune to Wind Shear and Burn would be unable to be afflicted by them. That being said, the possibility of Imaginary, Quantum and Ice DoTs are still on the table. Of the three non-DoT types, I'd say an Ice character that can inflict a "Frostbite" DoT and freeze at least with their Ultimate would work really well in DoT teams because of how well Freeze synergises with DoT. Getting an Ice weakness break with Ruan Mei feels like Christmas on a DoT team because it temporarily doubles the number of turns an enemy takes.

If they introduce a new limited 5* DoT unit, it would be a bleed dps, either as sustain or as DoT dps can also do a bit of sustain and debuff (the sustain would probably similar to that of an SU blessing where you are healed when enemies takes an instance of DoT dmg) My reason is that currently we have 3 of the DoT dps of the four DoT type; kafka (shock), black swan (wind shear) and jiaoqiu (burn). It only makes sense that the next DoT unit would be bleed. Now, the reason I said that they would be a sustain is because in DoT team the only position left is sustain; kafka & black swan occupies the dps spot while jiaoqiu occupies the support spot.
A unit that will drastically speed up enemy while also decreasing their damage will be ideal for DOT team and more interesting than just simply buffing dot damage. Maybe harmony or preservation unit. This new unit can also be used with counter units like Clara so it will be useful outside dot teams.
The problem with very fast enemies is that if they are much faster than the characters, they will be constantly resetting their DoT stacks before they get very high, and for example Black Swan's epiphany from her ult can wear off much faster. I really hope we'll be seeing a return to DoT meta, though. I'm sure I'm not alone in hoping we'll get a dedicated DoT sustain, with a kit that works similarly to the Offerings of Deception blessing and maybe even a buff that allows DoT to crit with a fixed value. They wouldn't really need any other buffs like ATK% because other premium DoT units like Jiaoqiu or Black Swan can provide further damage amplification.
Well we saw what happens when enemies have extreme speed in the DoT PF we had before. Even low stack enemies get obliterated by DoT. It is like the faster they move the more you attack them. It is especially relevant when there are specific DoT buffs to MoC or PF.
@@AzureDrag0n1 ya with the DoT buffs for sure, it just seems to me otherwise you don't get such large DoT procs just more of them. TBH it's been so long since we had a DoT meta outside of one level in a combat event. I wish they'd cycle it through more often compared to fua buffs, ultimate buffs, energy or av buffs etc
Here’s hoping DOT gets some love in the future. I never realized that they literally had almost no characters until recently with BS and JQ joining the roster. Could definitely use a DOT centric harmony/support (Sunday?)
DoTcheron is extremely strong, basically the entire reason I skipped JQ. It's gonna be interesting when DoT gets another shakeup, then I might wish I had better dedicated Acheron supports.
i was thinking "The problem with DOT? There's a problem with DOT?" and then i remembered that i'm running E2S1 Kafka, E2S1 RM and E1S1 BS (with e1 lynx cause sustains keep not wanting to be mine) ALSO i like HSR because they LOVE me, i got this team by 2.1 as a F2P and now i already have robin E0S0, Feixiao E1S0 with a confirmed on the LC and after i get her LC i'll save for aventurine.
I will pick up Kafka since she seems to be the core for DoT and I kind of expect them to release a Harmony character for DoT specifically and that's already a strong base with which you should be able to clear the "DoT" rotations in endgame modes.
As DoT enjoyer.. Kafka will keep getting better with more DoT characters eg Dot healer, harmony or shielder. She hard to powercreep. Patience is all you need

No they don't. They need a DoT specific harmony or nihility. If there was a DoT that enabled all DoTs on the enemy to detonate without having Kafka do it, that'd be great. Edit: Better yet there's a DU Blessing that enables DoTs to crit. Hoyo needs to put that in a support and you could enable it in a myriad of ways: when allies take their turns, enemies take their turns, when DoTs are applied, when Dots deal damage, or when allies themselves detonate DoTs. And you could still enable that specific support to detonate DoTs as well

We need more DoT units in general. It's the most inflexible comp in the game atm, as there's basically just two good DoT units that hold the entire type together. Just getting a support to make Kafka and Black Swan better is not enough. We need more variety.
The problem with DoT is in the name. Damage Over Time In a game that is basically pitting you in a race againts the time. DoT is not a front-load play style, as long as every metric is measured in end game by how quickly you can kill things, you will bottleneck many other fundemental aspects of a combat.
That's why kafka is basically the only reason dot is usable And why people think a character that action advances enemies would be good, so they take more dot damage
I love DoT, it was my first fully invested team! Like everyone else I’m looking forward to a dedicated support/additional unit but for now I’m having a lot of fun with my other teams.
Currently I am aiming for Robin, Kafka, and Blackswan. I have identified that those are my weakness on my account and I had the most trouble when DoT meta was in place. I barely managed to beat some PF content that was catered to DoT and I only had a few days remaining before I finally cleared it. Nothing else in this game gave me as much trouble as Pure Fiction. Even my Herta + Himeko got destroyed in DoT PF which normally got 40k points.
as a DoT player from day 1 Kafka and after getting E2 JQ, all I want is DoT physical chara that can apply special bleed, make the bleed concert to heal or maybe crit? or maybe shielder that can apply bleed to enemy maybe.....we already see that SU Nihility blessings and mechanic can give expansion to current DoT mechanic.. one thing about Harmony unit is sure they provide buff but if they dont provide directly to the DoT such as additional DoT is kinda a waste of slot sometimes...or maybe they will be Harmony/Nihility unit that can apply additional DoT based on allies DoT on enemy. Ex: give additional shock if there is Kafka's shock, give additional wind shear if there is BS Arcana, and additional burn if there is JQ Ashen Roast...

(Praying for Crit buff DoT like the one in DU) Jiaoqiu is more of Ult Reliant/Debuff Reliant character with some dot added which is not that great if not E2 Also, Superbreak comp have many new additions lately (Boothill, Firefly, HTB, Gallgaher, and now it is Lingsha) Rappa is also speculated to be Break reliant iirc.

@@ncct8170 but still it wouldn't be fair for DoT comp to be left out in character releases. It would be better if they make HTB last for more time before actually releasing a break related harmony character. Besides, HTB buff is already enough, it would be hard to powercreep.
DoT support and good sustain is all DoT needs tbh. I dont have a problem clearing as of now with Kafka, Black Swan, Ruan Mei/Gui, any sustain. But not having a sustain thats actually made for DoT does suck. Every other sustain that isnt Huo Huo which i didnt win 50/50 on is just sub-optimal.

8:51 - no, they don't. Dots have very short duration, like 1 or 2 turns. Overacting enemies will result in dots fell off before characters could apply new stacks, and dots uptime will be less. So as the total damage of it. If you take a look at Black Swan toolkit, her dot is infinite by duration, but its total damage is divided by 50 stacks. Stacks reset to 1 every time enemy do take turn. To apply more stacks per turn, dot characters must act more often. So very fast enemies would not make dot team do more damage.
I have a E0 S1 Black Swan that's collecting dust on the shelf... Will play DoT once they finally release an alternative/sidegrade/powercreep to Kafka (I don't like her and didn't pull) I got Huo and Ruan Mei on standby as well once that time comes.
Before I pulled Kafka, my team was rather lackluster, not doing all that much damage. With her though, enemies became easier, faster to eliminate. Maybe because Kafka’s the one I actually built a team around, limited as they were. Kafka, Black Swan, Ruan Mei and Fu Xuan has been my main team for months now.
the current DoT team is so strong and so high in the meta that it clears any content and it justifies it being worth. and it may even get stronger with a dedicated DoT harmony / nihility DoT buffer.
i've been using DOT since kafka released and yeah... you need kafka for the team to work. i have to say they are so resilient though. all content they have avenues of easy success. doesn't matter enemy density or weaknesses. Also to argue, getting a great freezing chracter would be ideal for sustain on DOT, Freeze causes enemies to take damage from dots multiple times without taking turns, Imagine getting a ice character that applies some kinda of unique DOT or a Sustain that can apply bleed, DOT will be complete
My account is pretty dot cuz I got Kafka on accident early into my gameplay, then loved black swan, then acheron came and with fu xuan this team carried me trough literally everything and anything, now with jiauqu it'll only get better and dot is also just so damn fun
I got Kafka day 1 but to this day I still don’t have a proper team set up for her since I pull for characters I like and sadly her premium team requires characters I don’t plan on pulling. I hope they will invest and add more options to DOT like what they did with FUA. Like at its early days I didn’t really care for FUA or their characters but with how many options there r now I can finally join in on the fun with Feixiao and Moze coming up.
What's going to happen is at some point in the future they're going to be enemies that have Shields that break as you hit them and follow-up teams and dot Teams will be dominant during that kind of meta
We need a nihility character who has that simulated universe blessing and heals you when enemies take dot dmg but in their base kit. That would fix the survivability issue, or a dot centred preservation character.
As a Kafka enjoyer, I am a DOT enjoyer forever and always. Kafka is the reason I started playing this game. Kafka is the reason I continue to play this game.
Nihility’s only real flaw is not having a dedicated sustain to the playstyle. Kafka is the Topaz for DoTs; she’ll only get better as new DoT units and relics/LCs release. Yes-Break and FUA are very strong and meta, but that doesn’t negate the viability of other teams. If DoTs had their own Aventurine or Gal/Ling, the playstyle would have space to grow and become flexible. At the moment, DoTs rely on characters that are better suited for other team comps-HH, JQ, RM all fit the bill. Create more characters with roles specific to DoTs (even 4* because they are still very viable and have also been getting stronger with each update/release) and the playstyle will flourish. Depend on which team u focus on u get topas lc or kafka lc, by people above saying her lc just better 4% gnsw is wrong. Her lc gives 14.4 spd (= 6 atk sub) + enable full stack of prisoner ( 3 debuff) if u using kafka + bs + harmony ( jiaoqiu atm is just worse than rmei if e0s0,equal if e0s1) + with kafka lc u can enable dot + acheron team which is stack very fast and do consistent dps.
in my experience its always a viable option but rarely the best ideally really needs a better character than ruan mei or pela because ruan mei is wanted by so many better teams
my robin is pretty much a dot character, I gave her the dot set with 4.4k attack she hits for close to 30k with a super speed kafka to go crazy. Then again I have used a dot team since kafka release (1,2)with kafka sampo and asta then swapped asta out for guinifen till black swam came out
It is very true that DoT and Break are kind of two opposites in terms of playstyles. That is why, in theory at least, i would not like a Ruan Mei in that team, compared to Robin and now Jioaqiu. But it is also true it is quite an expensive playstyle, like FuA... Even if Counter-meta will renew the interest in DoT, I am betting that when DoT will return as a "flavor of the month" for itself there will be something new to make it fresh again. Not necessarily a Kafka powercreep but maybe a new game play idea that would not require a v1 character (thinking for somewhere in v3 and if it is brought by the MC, it is even better !).
Tbf his buffs arent specific for DoT units and can work wifh many other dpses which allows him to be more flexible. Black Swan and Kafka are basically locked to DoT playstyle with little creativity or flexibility outside of that.
As one of the people who has (arguably) one of the more "expensive" Dot teams (Kafka at E1, Black Swan with LC, Huo Huo and Jiaoqiu, etc. ...) my problem is not so much the lack of strength, but the lack of supportive effects from the re-running challenges. I'm, of course, talking about Apocalyptic Shadow, Moc and such. And what I can say is that this might be the first patch ever where I might be unable to get 12 stars in Apocalyptic Shadow. Reason being: I have no Firefly, no Boothill, and the lack of supportive effects with the lack of characters that fill in the weaknesses that my opponents have. Everything else I can clear, with more or less effort. Mostly less. Of course, I already forsaw this when I decided not to pull for either Boothill or Firefly, but the feeling is bad... and me deciding, consciously, not to follow the Follow-Up AND the Weakness Break meta with my Main-Account has made the game a lot harder. At the same time, my F2P account is quite happy because it has both Firefly and is mostly specialised on Follow-Up Attacks.
Yeah, don't feel bad about it. HSR is defo one of the gachas that like to artificially push the power of the newer comps/units. Break and FuA are the flavor of 2.x, just like hypercarries were the flavor of 1.x. Rather than trying to play catch up this late in 2.x, it's honestly better to accept losing like 500 jades over 3 patchs and see what 3.x will bring to the table.

The only immediate regret that I will have is that I might have to skip on Fei Xiao, because I have no adequate team-mates for her. No Robin, no Topaz (only on the F2P account), which also explains the difficulties that my main-account is going through. - So: I think you're right. Losing about 500 jades over 2 or 3 patches is bad, but not worth investing into said alternatives. Better days will come!
Im in the same boat, I can clear moc and pf but this apocalyptic shadow is impossible for me. I dont have Boothill, Robin, or Firefly. Even then I only barely cleared this moc.

I am a new player and got Robin, Kafka, and Black Swan hoping to build a DOT team. Then I see people saying DOT is not worth it. I will build them anyway because I can’t go back but kinda sucks that I went all in for characters that aren’t even good anymore. 😢
We're essentially waiting for a DoT sustainer. HuoHuo is fine for now (esp good w/ kafka) but is very lacking compared to a unit that is fully invested into DoT. After that it's just gonna be BS powercreeps. I don't see kafka going away - the stronger DoT units get the stronger she gets. And JQ at E2 is going to have permanent residency on DoT teams, but will be powercrept if he's only E0/E1. The meta DoT team will be E2 JQ / Kafka / New DoT Sustainer / Current Meta pure DPS DoT (BS right now). Kafka is eternal - no unit that ever comes out will proc DoT's more than her considering that is her entire kit - skill and ultimate. They cannot directly powercreep her without just duplicating her with higher mods which they wouldn't do. If you dont have JQ at E2 (most people), you'll be waiting for someone like him that has more DoT in their base kit - you do want exactly ONE nihility or harmony buff/debuff type unit, that's going to maximize your DoT damage. JQ at E0 has a very weak DoT and his vuln stacking is current best but only by a slight margin over a 4star so he's not going to last long for most people. But yea, ironically despite being the best DoT unit, BS will be replaced very quickly as they powercreeep DoT teams.

A 4star provides 28% which is 80% of his. Another 4star, pela, provides def shred which at first is not as much but if you happen to have enough def shred on the team it actually ends up adding more to your team damage than he does. The point here is...it's not going to bee something we never see again. 35% is not like this unreachable level of vuln that we will never see again. Especially considering at max investment (E6S5) he gets 100% vuln. 35% is kinda low for a base kit on a 5star when the rest of his kit doesn't offer much (just 15% Ulti dmg, and a DoT half the mod of Gui's). The uptime is nice, but Gui has similar uptime outside of PF. So sure in PF he's way better but that's just one game mode...and again we're talking about a 4star vs a 5star so we're not arguing which one is better it's about the margins. I keep seeing people like you commenting this crap. NO ONE is saying he's not the best currently or that 4stars are just as good. You're using a strawman - NO ONE has said this. Though again, his E2 is top tier and if you have it you can probably use him on DoT team for like 3 years...480% DoT on a unit that is primarily a vuln stacker is kinda insane.
@@Mperez223m I agree with gerfe because I feel like my JQ is pretty shit outside of Archron. He hs e0s0 and in my DOT team, he doesn't feel like he increases the damage by much or any at all. I did not make him a dot damage dealer like BS, he is a support atm with wind set at 162 speed. The main problem is, he needs very high investments to be decent from relics, weapon, and eidolons. He will be replaced faster than BS in my situation because even if he is built correctly, he only makes DOT teams 40% better which is the same as adding robin. Ruan Mei is still BIS for DOT.
@@gerfe2 No, this is wrong on so many levels. This is permanent 35% dmg vul uptime plus 15% for ults which does do a non-negligible chunk of dmg by Kafka and Black Swan. The only buffers who even come close to this is Pela with S5 Resolution for about 55% def shred and even then, his dmg vul is 100% uptime while doing decent dmg, and carries over in waves. Guinaifen, on paper, has 80% of his dmg vul stacks but not only is it more unreliable especially in multi-wave content like Pure Fiction, it’s also extremely slow and doesnt applicate on all enemies. Jiaoqiu’s ult allows his stacks to apply on all enemies and every enemy entering has max stacks immediately while Guinaifen needs to attack them with her Firekiss to actually apply her vul at all. Comparing his E6 and saying that his base kit is low is extremely dumb. Most characters are completely different at E2 much less often E6. At E6, he just becomes THE universal support with 100% dmg vul and 27% all res type pen which is a rightful extreme buff for anyone aiming for E6 but comparing that to E0/E1/E2 performance is extremely unfair. Even at S1, he becomes more powerful than Ruanmei for DoT comps as a support. At E1S1, the difference is extremely obvious and then E2 is uncontested for DoT. The reality is that dmg vul is extremely rare and very easy to power creep so the likelihood of that happening will be extremely low. It’s a one to one multiplier that directly buffs dmg that isnt oversaturated like crit, atk%, or dmg bonus, which has a higher limit than def shred and usually better for solo debuffers. Jiaoqiu and Guinaifen arent even comparable and Pela falls off noticeably when it comes to consistency and application for debuffs. He also contributes his own dmg to the team while being able to bypass any burn immune enemy. His entire kit is going to extremely hard to powercreep without straightup breaking the game.
@@teemychow6483 he’s meant to be only to be a sidegrade in DoT at E0S0 and yeah his ehr is on the higher side but I would say it’s a stretch to say that he requires good relics you’re only looking for speed and ehr. Attack rolls are wasted on him considering he gets a massive attack chunk through his conversion trace. At E0S0 and even e1 S1 he’s meant to be a AoE debuffer first with some DoT capabilities.
Prayge for crit DOT (not coping because we literally have that blessing on DU). If by chance **HARMONY DOT** come by than all dot comp eating good. (why not nihility? Because we have kafka e1 that give direct 30% dmg increase (vulnerability) )
If we're talking about nihility blessings, a unit that can enable teammates to proc 1 existing DoT when attacking is preferable. Like how Break is back loaded but HTB enables everyone to Superbreak, a DoT support that enables some form of front loaded dmg could be nice. A support that applies debuff that gets better depending on the amount of dots on the target could also be nice.
The problem with dot is that we only have 3 limited characters since the start of the game, all the other archetypes like FUA, Hypercarry and Break have a lot more, Break as a archetype started last 2 att and already have more characters than dot.
Dot has been shining, it was meta for a while still kinda is. However now it's all about foa, break effect, ultimate dmg and all of that. Honestly just use what you want it gets the job done unless it's something like pure fiction then that's a different story.
Like most people are saying I feel like the solution for DOT would be to add a buffer specific for this archetype, my proposal is that their able to apply their own DOT but also advance the enemy turn to take action immediately (while also probably giving a buff to the team, like ATK/DMG or debuffing the enemies in some way). I know it seems a little weird to advance an enemy's turn but this would make that support not only viable for DOT teams but also they'd work for Counter attacks type teams, like Yunli/Clara or even Blade.
Let me say smth Jiaoqiu isnt dot character unless u have his e2. Still 2 dot + ruan mei is so strong. ye maybe she slows enemies but at the same time she gives speed to your characters, thats synergizes well with Black Swan arcana, when u need to stack it with kafka skill or ultimate
As someone who's favorite character is Kafka I fully intend on investing in DOT. I was wondering though does anyone know who is the BIS for DOT besides Ruan Mei(I use her for my Firefly)? I'm assuming it comes down between Robin and Jiaoqiu, but I don't know which one is better. Also, to keep in mind I don't have Huohuo(lost my 50/50).
If a Limited 5-Star DoT unit comes out that enables CRITs on DoT, then I'm switching over. Nontheless, it's still one of the most comfortable teams to build.
You will know whose turn it is to shine based on what’s the current turbulence buff in endgame. And this buff is extremely important as you will know if you deliberately try to use team comps that don't benefit from the buff at all and see how much harder it is to get a 3-star clear on the hardest stage. So DoT just needs to wait for the turbulence buff to swing back to favour DoT again. (the last time this happened was during 2.2's Pure Fiction)
Not a bad pick. Fei works with HM7 very well. Get Aven for sustain slot and you are golden. If you get a few copies of Moze he also works fine with Feixiao.
As FTP I have Black Swan, Jiaoqiu, and Huohuo, but not Kafka. My account is focused around Acheron and Super break. 2.5 banner is going to be very tricky because Robin is potentially getting a re-run. Robin is needed in the current meta. Kafka is good, but question if she will be power crept in 2.7.
They need to release a physical dot nihility support. Something akin to how good Ruan Mei is for break and Robin for follow ups. Having a harmony support for dot wouldn't make sense, since this game likes the nihility class working together.
If hoyo wants to make DoT meta again, its gonna need a MC treatment. Give us an option to try out the playstyle with a MC path. I dont have the jades to pull for 4 5 stars to build a top tier team. Id rather focus on flexable teams that i can piviot around the situations
having enemies go much faster is sadly a double edged sword... a nihility team with just a solo sustain huo huo is already pretty squishy and lacks proper mitigation so if enemies can attack more often than your team can move, that spells a lot of trouble in terms of sustaining the team as your huo huo has to use SP more often while your DOT team ends up losing more SP in the process. So personally, i would much rather have either a Robin clone for DOT that can retrigger a small % of all DOT inflicted or just a true hypercarry unit that's going to enable DOT teams to play at a much faster pace. That unit could probably do something like tallying all the DOT placed on the target and converts it as its own damage and even makes it crit.
Was very surprised to hear Jiaoqiu make your 'future proof' list. I've been playing since 1.0 but never built a dot team. Was thinking about pulling him to start building that foundation, but I don't have any other dot characters (no Acheron, Kafka, Swan, etc). i allways loved dot playstyles but they allways come out at times i rather have diferent ones so I play with sampo and guin, my main teams are all follow up so i also have a ton of the dot set relic
DOT is special, but sure not premium yet, unlike other compositions that already have "premium" setups. DOT, as of now, still lacks a "premium" Harmony of it's own. It sure already has Swan, Kafka, and HuoHuo, but not the 4th character yet. Robin and Mei sure can go with DOT, but not specifically DOT "premium" yet. So, Mei and Robin are just temporary for DOT. DOT needs a dedicated and specific Harmony for it to complete the "premium" lineup.
I do think it’s important to note that both counter units and DoT units like FAST enemies.

That would also benefit counter fua characters like Clara and Yunli
A Nihility unit that can inflict Freeze would essentially accomplish that due to how Freeze advances enemy action forward by 50% when it wears off. Double the turns an enemy takes while reducing their damage.

On top of needing a 5 star Physical DoT, a lot of people aren't considering that DoT can only truly become universal once we have DoT chars for elements that don't have a built-in DoT. With how Arcana and Ashen Roast work, they deal Wind and Fire DoT respectively but only count as Wind Shear and Burn for the purpose of other mechanics. They are not Wind Shear / Burn themselves, they are two entirely different DoT status that *behave* like them, otherwise enemies immune to Wind Shear and Burn would be unable to be afflicted by them. That being said, the possibility of Imaginary, Quantum and Ice DoTs are still on the table.
Of the three non-DoT types, I'd say an Ice character that can inflict a "Frostbite" DoT and freeze at least with their Ultimate would work really well in DoT teams because of how well Freeze synergises with DoT. Getting an Ice weakness break with Ruan Mei feels like Christmas on a DoT team because it temporarily doubles the number of turns an enemy takes.
Break teams are bonkers ,able to implement weakness with Firefly and Boothill is really game changing

I think what DoT now needs most is a Buffer that is somewhat between Ruan Mei and Robin ? That gives spd and buffs that actually help dot dmg
I think they also need something like new main DoT DPS similar to Kafka, or even better Kafka. Because so far Kafka is the only good main DoT DPS.

How to fix D.O.T in Honkai : Give the suspicious debuff effect to every D.O.T in game.
If they introduce a new limited 5* DoT unit, it would be a bleed dps, either as sustain or as DoT dps can also do a bit of sustain and debuff (the sustain would probably similar to that of an SU blessing where you are healed when enemies takes an instance of DoT dmg)
My reason is that currently we have 3 of the DoT dps of the four DoT type; kafka (shock), black swan (wind shear) and jiaoqiu (burn). It only makes sense that the next DoT unit would be bleed.
Now, the reason I said that they would be a sustain is because in DoT team the only position left is sustain; kafka & black swan occupies the dps spot while jiaoqiu occupies the support spot.
A unit that will drastically speed up enemy while also decreasing their damage will be ideal for DOT team and more interesting than just simply buffing dot damage. Maybe harmony or preservation unit. This new unit can also be used with counter units like Clara so it will be useful outside dot teams.
The problem with very fast enemies is that if they are much faster than the characters, they will be constantly resetting their DoT stacks before they get very high, and for example Black Swan's epiphany from her ult can wear off much faster. I really hope we'll be seeing a return to DoT meta, though.
I'm sure I'm not alone in hoping we'll get a dedicated DoT sustain, with a kit that works similarly to the Offerings of Deception blessing and maybe even a buff that allows DoT to crit with a fixed value. They wouldn't really need any other buffs like ATK% because other premium DoT units like Jiaoqiu or Black Swan can provide further damage amplification.
Well we saw what happens when enemies have extreme speed in the DoT PF we had before. Even low stack enemies get obliterated by DoT. It is like the faster they move the more you attack them. It is especially relevant when there are specific DoT buffs to MoC or PF.
@@AzureDrag0n1 ya with the DoT buffs for sure, it just seems to me otherwise you don't get such large DoT procs just more of them. TBH it's been so long since we had a DoT meta outside of one level in a combat event. I wish they'd cycle it through more often compared to fua buffs, ultimate buffs, energy or av buffs etc

DoTcheron is extremely strong, basically the entire reason I skipped JQ. It's gonna be interesting when DoT gets another shakeup, then I might wish I had better dedicated Acheron supports.

ALSO i like HSR because they LOVE me, i got this team by 2.1 as a F2P and now i already have robin E0S0, Feixiao E1S0 with a confirmed on the LC and after i get her LC i'll save for aventurine.
I will pick up Kafka since she seems to be the core for DoT and I kind of expect them to release a Harmony character for DoT specifically and that's already a strong base with which you should be able to clear the "DoT" rotations in endgame modes.

Edit: Better yet there's a DU Blessing that enables DoTs to crit. Hoyo needs to put that in a support and you could enable it in a myriad of ways: when allies take their turns, enemies take their turns, when DoTs are applied, when Dots deal damage, or when allies themselves detonate DoTs. And you could still enable that specific support to detonate DoTs as well

We need more DoT units in general. It's the most inflexible comp in the game atm, as there's basically just two good DoT units that hold the entire type together. Just getting a support to make Kafka and Black Swan better is not enough. We need more variety.

In a game that is basically pitting you in a race againts the time. DoT is not a front-load play style, as long as every metric is measured in end game by how quickly you can kill things, you will bottleneck many other fundemental aspects of a combat.
That's why kafka is basically the only reason dot is usable
And why people think a character that action advances enemies would be good, so they take more dot damage
I love DoT, it was my first fully invested team! Like everyone else I’m looking forward to a dedicated support/additional unit but for now I’m having a lot of fun with my other teams.
I’m hoping we get a new detonator like Kafka since she never really appealed to me. I also hope Sunday or a new harmony unit is a DoT buffer.
Currently I am aiming for Robin, Kafka, and Blackswan. I have identified that those are my weakness on my account and I had the most trouble when DoT meta was in place. I barely managed to beat some PF content that was catered to DoT and I only had a few days remaining before I finally cleared it. Nothing else in this game gave me as much trouble as Pure Fiction. Even my Herta + Himeko got destroyed in DoT PF which normally got 40k points.
as a DoT player from day 1 Kafka and after getting E2 JQ, all I want is DoT physical chara that can apply special bleed, make the bleed concert to heal or maybe crit? or maybe shielder that can apply bleed to enemy maybe.....we already see that SU Nihility blessings and mechanic can give expansion to current DoT mechanic..
one thing about Harmony unit is sure they provide buff but if they dont provide directly to the DoT such as additional DoT is kinda a waste of slot sometimes...or maybe they will be Harmony/Nihility unit that can apply additional DoT based on allies DoT on enemy. Ex: give additional shock if there is Kafka's shock, give additional wind shear if there is BS Arcana, and additional burn if there is JQ Ashen Roast...

Jiaoqiu is more of Ult Reliant/Debuff Reliant character with some dot added which is not that great if not E2
Also, Superbreak comp have many new additions lately (Boothill, Firefly, HTB, Gallgaher, and now it is Lingsha)
Rappa is also speculated to be Break reliant iirc.

DoT support and good sustain is all DoT needs tbh. I dont have a problem clearing as of now with Kafka, Black Swan, Ruan Mei/Gui, any sustain. But not having a sustain thats actually made for DoT does suck. Every other sustain that isnt Huo Huo which i didnt win 50/50 on is just sub-optimal.

8:51 - no, they don't. Dots have very short duration, like 1 or 2 turns. Overacting enemies will result in dots fell off before characters could apply new stacks, and dots uptime will be less. So as the total damage of it.
If you take a look at Black Swan toolkit, her dot is infinite by duration, but its total damage is divided by 50 stacks. Stacks reset to 1 every time enemy do take turn. To apply more stacks per turn, dot characters must act more often.
So very fast enemies would not make dot team do more damage.

Before I pulled Kafka, my team was rather lackluster, not doing all that much damage.
With her though, enemies became easier, faster to eliminate.
Maybe because Kafka’s the one I actually built a team around, limited as they were.
Kafka, Black Swan, Ruan Mei and Fu Xuan has been my main team for months now.
the current DoT team is so strong and so high in the meta that it clears any content and it justifies it being worth. and it may even get stronger with a dedicated DoT harmony / nihility DoT buffer.
i've been using DOT since kafka released and yeah... you need kafka for the team to work. i have to say they are so resilient though. all content they have avenues of easy success. doesn't matter enemy density or weaknesses. Also to argue, getting a great freezing chracter would be ideal for sustain on DOT, Freeze causes enemies to take damage from dots multiple times without taking turns, Imagine getting a ice character that applies some kinda of unique DOT or a Sustain that can apply bleed, DOT will be complete

My account is pretty dot cuz I got Kafka on accident early into my gameplay, then loved black swan, then acheron came and with fu xuan this team carried me trough literally everything and anything, now with jiauqu it'll only get better and dot is also just so damn fun
I got Kafka day 1 but to this day I still don’t have a proper team set up for her since I pull for characters I like and sadly her premium team requires characters I don’t plan on pulling. I hope they will invest and add more options to DOT like what they did with FUA. Like at its early days I didn’t really care for FUA or their characters but with how many options there r now I can finally join in on the fun with Feixiao and Moze coming up.
What's going to happen is at some point in the future they're going to be enemies that have Shields that break as you hit them and follow-up teams and dot Teams will be dominant during that kind of meta
We need a nihility character who has that simulated universe blessing and heals you when enemies take dot dmg but in their base kit. That would fix the survivability issue, or a dot centred preservation character.
As a Kafka enjoyer, I am a DOT enjoyer forever and always. Kafka is the reason I started playing this game. Kafka is the reason I continue to play this game.
Nihility’s only real flaw is not having a dedicated sustain to the playstyle. Kafka is the Topaz for DoTs; she’ll only get better as new DoT units and relics/LCs release.
Yes-Break and FUA are very strong and meta, but that doesn’t negate the viability of other teams. If DoTs had their own Aventurine or Gal/Ling, the playstyle would have space to grow and become flexible. At the moment, DoTs rely on characters that are better suited for other team comps-HH, JQ, RM all fit the bill.
Create more characters with roles specific to DoTs (even 4* because they are still very viable and have also been getting stronger with each update/release) and the playstyle will flourish.

I use Kafka, BS, Huohuo and Ruan Mei. This team is very strong if there's a lightning or wind weakness. It's just the damage is not front loaded.

Depend on which team u focus on u get topas lc or kafka lc, by people above saying her lc just better 4% gnsw is wrong. Her lc gives 14.4 spd (= 6 atk sub) + enable full stack of prisoner ( 3 debuff) if u using kafka + bs + harmony ( jiaoqiu atm is just worse than rmei if e0s0,equal if e0s1) + with kafka lc u can enable dot + acheron team which is stack very fast and do consistent dps.
An easy way to buff DOT is allowing it to proc on enemies' 2nd actions. So many enemies move twice, but DOT onlys procs once
Kafka was the reason I returned to the game but never got Black Swan so I sure hope I can pull her soon. =p
in my experience its always a viable option but rarely the best ideally really needs a better character than ruan mei or pela because ruan mei is wanted by so many better teams
I think what DoT needs right now is a Physical buffer or sustain that can apply Bleed and a debuff along the lines of suspicion.

my robin is pretty much a dot character, I gave her the dot set with 4.4k attack she hits for close to 30k with a super speed kafka to go crazy. Then again I have used a dot team since kafka release (1,2)with kafka sampo and asta then swapped asta out for guinifen till black swam came out

It is very true that DoT and Break are kind of two opposites in terms of playstyles. That is why, in theory at least, i would not like a Ruan Mei in that team, compared to Robin and now Jioaqiu.
But it is also true it is quite an expensive playstyle, like FuA...
Even if Counter-meta will renew the interest in DoT, I am betting that when DoT will return as a "flavor of the month" for itself there will be something new to make it fresh again. Not necessarily a Kafka powercreep but maybe a new game play idea that would not require a v1 character (thinking for somewhere in v3 and if it is brought by the MC, it is even better !).

Tbf his buffs arent specific for DoT units and can work wifh many other dpses which allows him to be more flexible. Black Swan and Kafka are basically locked to DoT playstyle with little creativity or flexibility outside of that.
As one of the people who has (arguably) one of the more "expensive" Dot teams (Kafka at E1, Black Swan with LC, Huo Huo and Jiaoqiu, etc. ...) my problem is not so much the lack of strength, but the lack of supportive effects from the re-running challenges.
I'm, of course, talking about Apocalyptic Shadow, Moc and such. And what I can say is that this might be the first patch ever where I might be unable to get 12 stars in Apocalyptic Shadow. Reason being: I have no Firefly, no Boothill, and the lack of supportive effects with the lack of characters that fill in the weaknesses that my opponents have. Everything else I can clear, with more or less effort. Mostly less.
Of course, I already forsaw this when I decided not to pull for either Boothill or Firefly, but the feeling is bad... and me deciding, consciously, not to follow the Follow-Up AND the Weakness Break meta with my Main-Account has made the game a lot harder. At the same time, my F2P account is quite happy because it has both Firefly and is mostly specialised on Follow-Up Attacks.
Yeah, don't feel bad about it. HSR is defo one of the gachas that like to artificially push the power of the newer comps/units. Break and FuA are the flavor of 2.x, just like hypercarries were the flavor of 1.x. Rather than trying to play catch up this late in 2.x, it's honestly better to accept losing like 500 jades over 3 patchs and see what 3.x will bring to the table.

The only immediate regret that I will have is that I might have to skip on Fei Xiao, because I have no adequate team-mates for her. No Robin, no Topaz (only on the F2P account), which also explains the difficulties that my main-account is going through. - So: I think you're right. Losing about 500 jades over 2 or 3 patches is bad, but not worth investing into said alternatives. Better days will come!
Im in the same boat, I can clear moc and pf but this apocalyptic shadow is impossible for me. I dont have Boothill, Robin, or Firefly. Even then I only barely cleared this moc.

I am a new player and got Robin, Kafka, and Black Swan hoping to build a DOT team. Then I see people saying DOT is not worth it. I will build them anyway because I can’t go back but kinda sucks that I went all in for characters that aren’t even good anymore. 😢
We're essentially waiting for a DoT sustainer. HuoHuo is fine for now (esp good w/ kafka) but is very lacking compared to a unit that is fully invested into DoT. After that it's just gonna be BS powercreeps. I don't see kafka going away - the stronger DoT units get the stronger she gets. And JQ at E2 is going to have permanent residency on DoT teams, but will be powercrept if he's only E0/E1.
The meta DoT team will be E2 JQ / Kafka / New DoT Sustainer / Current Meta pure DPS DoT (BS right now). Kafka is eternal - no unit that ever comes out will proc DoT's more than her considering that is her entire kit - skill and ultimate. They cannot directly powercreep her without just duplicating her with higher mods which they wouldn't do.
If you dont have JQ at E2 (most people), you'll be waiting for someone like him that has more DoT in their base kit - you do want exactly ONE nihility or harmony buff/debuff type unit, that's going to maximize your DoT damage. JQ at E0 has a very weak DoT and his vuln stacking is current best but only by a slight margin over a 4star so he's not going to last long for most people.
But yea, ironically despite being the best DoT unit, BS will be replaced very quickly as they powercreeep DoT teams.

But 35% is not that much vuln. A 4star provides 28% which is 80% of his. Another 4star, pela, provides def shred which at first is not as much but if you happen to have enough def shred on the team it actually ends up adding more to your team damage than he does. The point here is...it's not going to bee something we never see again. 35% is not like this unreachable level of vuln that we will never see again. Especially considering at max investment (E6S5) he gets 100% vuln. 35% is kinda low for a base kit on a 5star when the rest of his kit doesn't offer much (just 15% Ulti dmg, and a DoT half the mod of Gui's).
The uptime is nice, but Gui has similar uptime outside of PF. So sure in PF he's way better but that's just one game mode...and again we're talking about a 4star vs a 5star so we're not arguing which one is better it's about the margins.
I keep seeing people like you commenting this crap. NO ONE is saying he's not the best currently or that 4stars are just as good. You're using a strawman - NO ONE has said this.
Though again, his E2 is top tier and if you have it you can probably use him on DoT team for like 3 years...480% DoT on a unit that is primarily a vuln stacker is kinda insane.

I did not make him a dot damage dealer like BS, he is a support atm with wind set at 162 speed. The main problem is, he needs very high investments to be decent from relics, weapon, and eidolons. He will be replaced faster than BS in my situation because even if he is built correctly, he only makes DOT teams 40% better which is the same as adding robin. Ruan Mei is still BIS for DOT.

No, this is wrong on so many levels. This is permanent 35% dmg vul uptime plus 15% for ults which does do a non-negligible chunk of dmg by Kafka and Black Swan. The only buffers who even come close to this is Pela with S5 Resolution for about 55% def shred and even then, his dmg vul is 100% uptime while doing decent dmg, and carries over in waves.
Guinaifen, on paper, has 80% of his dmg vul stacks but not only is it more unreliable especially in multi-wave content like Pure Fiction, it’s also extremely slow and doesnt applicate on all enemies. Jiaoqiu’s ult allows his stacks to apply on all enemies and every enemy entering has max stacks immediately while Guinaifen needs to attack them with her Firekiss to actually apply her vul at all.
Comparing his E6 and saying that his base kit is low is extremely dumb. Most characters are completely different at E2 much less often E6. At E6, he just becomes THE universal support with 100% dmg vul and 27% all res type pen which is a rightful extreme buff for anyone aiming for E6 but comparing that to E0/E1/E2 performance is extremely unfair. Even at S1, he becomes more powerful than Ruanmei for DoT comps as a support. At E1S1, the difference is extremely obvious and then E2 is uncontested for DoT.
The reality is that dmg vul is extremely rare and very easy to power creep so the likelihood of that happening will be extremely low. It’s a one to one multiplier that directly buffs dmg that isnt oversaturated like crit, atk%, or dmg bonus, which has a higher limit than def shred and usually better for solo debuffers. Jiaoqiu and Guinaifen arent even comparable and Pela falls off noticeably when it comes to consistency and application for debuffs. He also contributes his own dmg to the team while being able to bypass any burn immune enemy. His entire kit is going to extremely hard to powercreep without straightup breaking the game.
@@teemychow6483 he’s meant to be only to be a sidegrade in DoT at E0S0 and yeah his ehr is on the higher side but I would say it’s a stretch to say that he requires good relics you’re only looking for speed and ehr. Attack rolls are wasted on him considering he gets a massive attack chunk through his conversion trace. At E0S0 and even e1 S1 he’s meant to be a AoE debuffer first with some DoT capabilities.

I only have Jiao and BS as my 5* DoT Unit, I really need Kafka and I sadly couldn't get Huohuo, her Atk buff and Energy reg would be so good ;-;

If by chance **HARMONY DOT** come by than all dot comp eating good. (why not nihility? Because we have kafka e1 that give direct 30% dmg increase (vulnerability) )
If we're talking about nihility blessings, a unit that can enable teammates to proc 1 existing DoT when attacking is preferable. Like how Break is back loaded but HTB enables everyone to Superbreak, a DoT support that enables some form of front loaded dmg could be nice. A support that applies debuff that gets better depending on the amount of dots on the target could also be nice.

It just their dmg is not that great like BS.
I run Kafka E0, with JIAQ E1 and it’s okay I’m needing FEIX or Acheron for that higher damage

The problem with dot is that we only have 3 limited characters since the start of the game, all the other archetypes like FUA, Hypercarry and Break have a lot more, Break as a archetype started last 2 att and already have more characters than dot.
DoT needs a dedicated harmony badly. One that increases DoT, res pen, applies a unique DoT of their own, etc.

Dot has been shining, it was meta for a while still kinda is. However now it's all about foa, break effect, ultimate dmg and all of that. Honestly just use what you want it gets the job done unless it's something like pure fiction then that's a different story.
Like most people are saying I feel like the solution for DOT would be to add a buffer specific for this archetype, my proposal is that their able to apply their own DOT but also advance the enemy turn to take action immediately (while also probably giving a buff to the team, like ATK/DMG or debuffing the enemies in some way).
I know it seems a little weird to advance an enemy's turn but this would make that support not only viable for DOT teams but also they'd work for Counter attacks type teams, like Yunli/Clara or even Blade.
a sustain that can AA enemies and inflict a special debuff (like black swan's arcana) that reduces atk and counts as a DoT... a dream come true

Let me say smth Jiaoqiu isnt dot character unless u have his e2. Still 2 dot + ruan mei is so strong. ye maybe she slows enemies but at the same time she gives speed to your characters, thats synergizes well with Black Swan arcana, when u need to stack it with kafka skill or ultimate
Dot is lagging behind. E0S0 Firefly and E0S1 Yunli one cycle their sides in MoC. DoT with signatures and E1 BS takes 3 cycles. Mommy Dahlia, S.O.S.
As someone who's favorite character is Kafka I fully intend on investing in DOT. I was wondering though does anyone know who is the BIS for DOT besides Ruan Mei(I use her for my Firefly)? I'm assuming it comes down between Robin and Jiaoqiu, but I don't know which one is better. Also, to keep in mind I don't have Huohuo(lost my 50/50).
If a Limited 5-Star DoT unit comes out that enables CRITs on DoT, then I'm switching over. Nontheless, it's still one of the most comfortable teams to build.
You will know whose turn it is to shine based on what’s the current turbulence buff in endgame. And this buff is extremely important as you will know if you deliberately try to use team comps that don't benefit from the buff at all and see how much harder it is to get a 3-star clear on the hardest stage.
So DoT just needs to wait for the turbulence buff to swing back to favour DoT again. (the last time this happened was during 2.2's Pure Fiction)
I think DoT will be the next team focus that HSR will invest near and in 3.0 onwards

Not a bad pick. Fei works with HM7 very well. Get Aven for sustain slot and you are golden. If you get a few copies of Moze he also works fine with Feixiao.
As FTP I have Black Swan, Jiaoqiu, and Huohuo, but not Kafka. My account is focused around Acheron and Super break. 2.5 banner is going to be very tricky because Robin is potentially getting a re-run. Robin is needed in the current meta. Kafka is good, but question if she will be power crept in 2.7.
I don't see her getting powercrept tbh, it's a weird decision if they do.
They need to release a physical dot nihility support. Something akin to how good Ruan Mei is for break and Robin for follow ups. Having a harmony support for dot wouldn't make sense, since this game likes the nihility class working together.
If hoyo wants to make DoT meta again, its gonna need a MC treatment. Give us an option to try out the playstyle with a MC path.
I dont have the jades to pull for 4 5 stars to build a top tier team. Id rather focus on flexable teams that i can piviot around the situations

having enemies go much faster is sadly a double edged sword... a nihility team with just a solo sustain huo huo is already pretty squishy and lacks proper mitigation so if enemies can attack more often than your team can move, that spells a lot of trouble in terms of sustaining the team as your huo huo has to use SP more often while your DOT team ends up losing more SP in the process.
So personally, i would much rather have either a Robin clone for DOT that can retrigger a small % of all DOT inflicted or just a true hypercarry unit that's going to enable DOT teams to play at a much faster pace. That unit could probably do something like tallying all the DOT placed on the target and converts it as its own damage and even makes it crit.
Was very surprised to hear Jiaoqiu make your 'future proof' list. I've been playing since 1.0 but never built a dot team. Was thinking about pulling him to start building that foundation, but I don't have any other dot characters (no Acheron, Kafka, Swan, etc). It feels a bit spooky to pull him as a total speculation, anyone have advice? >.

i allways loved dot playstyles but they allways come out at times i rather have diferent ones so I play with sampo and guin, my main teams are all follow up so i also have a ton of the dot set relic
DOT is special, but sure not premium yet, unlike other compositions that already have "premium" setups. DOT, as of now, still lacks a "premium" Harmony of it's own. It sure already has Swan, Kafka, and HuoHuo, but not the 4th character yet. Robin and Mei sure can go with DOT, but not specifically DOT "premium" yet. So, Mei and Robin are just temporary for DOT. DOT needs a dedicated and specific Harmony for it to complete the "premium" lineup.
Actually the least you need for a reasonable performance is Kafka, Bswan e1 and Jiaoqiu e2. So its 6 limited characters ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Just make a HMC harmony that trigger DoT on hit like that Nihility blessing

It’s going to take a new T0 DOT character to get more people interested.
