It never occurred to me to look up cut content for jet set radio despite it being my favorite game. This was a super interesting and well edited video! Before this I could say I've done pretty much everything in the game, but now I have a reason to revisit it again; playing the cut car boss fight.. should be a hell of a challenge to reach it! I've been craving JSRF content while waiting for Bomb Rush Cyberfunk to come out. Super excited that it seems to be retaining its release date this time for this summer.
@@RisingSonic17 True. Decompilation would allow for even MORE of that type of cool stuff. Entire new levels, improved physics, multiplayer. That sort of thing. Just look at how well jak is doing with openGoal
Looking back years later it definitely felt like the game was shorter than it was suppose to be. If only a remake was possible so we can see what it was suppose to really be like.
Loving this video so far, wanted to add a few things to the Chuo Car fight in Chapter 7 as since I uploaded the video with 3 frame perfect jumps a significantly easier method was found between another runner, Crabbi, and myself when we were messing about with a theoretical "True 100%" concept, which I think practically anyone could do if they were interested in checking out the fight for themselves (Goes without saying I guess but this is in chapter 7 only, after you meet clutch and before you enter FRZ) Going through the double doors that teleport you up above the cables I use in the clip you can actually slowly turn right before you drop down onto the wires and stay on the platform/roof, from there a well timed boost jump to the right can get you on top of a big billboard sticking out in the terrain, which you can jump off of and around the buildings into the fight trigger. It's a fun little oddity thats fun to be able to trigger like that, another fun tidbit is in the leaked prototype build (Which was around a month prior to release iirc) , the cop fight is there and the trigger is in bounds, suggesting it really was quickly cut and moved out of bounds, not sure if you cover the prototype in this video since I could only catch the first half, but theres alot of fun bits and pieces scattered about that build (Such as alternate graffiti spots, an alternate 99th flag race and weird quirks like shuffling not being usable), if that build is anything to go by, the JSRF we got is nothing short of a miracle to not only exist in the way it does but also exist fairly bug free (At the very least, its quite difficult to hit any of the really out there glitches without going out of your way to do so)
Yoooo, thank you so much for the easier method! That's actually really cool, I can actually try it out myself next time I play. I actually initially wanted to talk about the beta, but I decided to scrap it and stick to what I can get from the files. But I said the same thing seeing the prototype build. The fact this game came out is a miracle. You know, you was also the reason why I wanted to make this video since my friends shared your video of the car fight and it was first time seeing it. I was so in disbelief that I had talk about all the other things that didn’t make it in. So thank you
I love how you said you can carry on the characters that you beat in the first game to be on the new + plus game to play in the story but I also think there should be online to play with others and share graffiti with each other
I got curious and looked into the japanese release to see how they handle the dub. Professor K speaks english there too! Since his voice was most likely one of the earliest recording sessions, it could explain why he has lines like the "Death Crash" one and why there are a lot of unused or "extra" lines. The instances where the text boxes are in the final but unvoiced are super unfortunate though. :(
I initially was gonna bundle in the prototype into this video, but I decided against it since there wasn't anything too drastic compared to the final release
They really got short on time, it is basically the only explanation I have of why some lines that are just text but have an actual audio track inside the games files couldn't be put into the actual game. This also explains some of the broken english in texts.
As a kid I remember seeing it more than once and it wasn't due to curiosity I'll admit lol, but now as I'm replaying it again since my 360 backwards compatibility days, currently as of this comment, I can see how it was a clear skill issue with the lack of camera on the right stick or anything intuitive with color contrast with those damn ladders in FRZ. 10/10 game with nostalgia goggles on, but with the lack of NG+ and slightly clunky controls paired with the fairly objectively short main story it's still a solid 9.0/10 @@RisingSonic17
The best video regarding cut jsrf stuff rn honestly(although there wasn't any real competition aside the unused audio video? But still) Also your theory thing regarding changes to the final chapters sounds rad
The Half Health thing with the Immortals was likely done purely because of the fact you have to face them in another tag battle like IMMEDIATELY afterwards in Highway Zero. So it was likely just a case where they wanted to be nice and not force you to do 2 back-to-back Tag Battles with nothing of note in between.
And it's funny because the more I think about it. It was probably intentionally like that too because the plan was to lure you into a trap in the first place
So the immortal Technique thing wasn't me just being crazy! Lol The extra content I always thought was meant to be a thing you could do after beating the game but as you mentioned they're not there after that chapter. Kinda wish they would have shown up after you did the challenge to unlock them. I totally missed the golden rhino sections on my recent playthrough. Also I remember that custscene of The DJ being taken away actually playing when I played before I don't remember what triggered it but I DO remember that cutscene playing it looks very familiar. When can we get a project JSRF? Hahahaha. Great video, man I just got through playing the first JSR and I want to play future again. I hope the new game lives up to it's predecessors.
Same here. I also remember the car battle.. Is it Mandela effect or memory issues, or even did my original disc have the cut content added? Pretty weird.
One thing they could've done with Clutch in Ch7 is maybe have it so instead of just randomly cycling between the maps, Clutch will go to set-in-stone spots on the map, but said spots will lead you RIGHT into each of the Golden Rhino encounters and right around where the Gang rematches are. The graffiti, rematches, and character challenges are still optional, but the game would still nudge you into doing them before moving on or something. And after catching up to Clutch for the last time, THAT'S when he returns the souls and you can head to the Fortified Residential area.
Ay, a very enjoyable watch, thanks for covering one of my all time favorite games! You do make an error though, in the regular release you do still have the opportunity to do the death ball team rematches, even if you miss them in chapter 7. I know this for a fact, as you can unlock Love Shockers (provided you collected the souls in CH4) and travel to Hikage to have a 4 Shock flag battle in the post game.
this game really deserves a remake with all the cut content added in, JSRF is a great game, but it really didn't shine as bright as it could have It will still remain my favourite game ever, until JSR3 becomes a reality
6:17-6:47 I always thought that the reason why you easily defeat the Immortals near the end of Chapter 4 is because they are trying to lure you to Highway Zero so that they can capture you. Then when you get to Highway Zero and see that the Immortals have Yoyo, it becomes an actual fight of taggers tag.
I played through that part today showing a family member gameplay and it surprised me even though I hadn't remembered it happened when I played on the og xbox, but it feels hella unfinished when you play not expecting it and it shows up.
Am I the only guy who transition from x to y and y to x while grinding and performing air tricks.? They was the best way to do tricks in the game. Especially the 180 L K backflip damn I miss this game. Yo yo was hot when you combine his spinning tricks in the air.

In hindsight, yeah. Its not a whole lot of cut things. Could honestly lean a bit more to the game's design kinda falling flat on itself with it's rush development. Though I think some things that did go unused are interesting enough in the grand scheme of how the game ended up.
@@RisingSonic17 lol that's a big turnaround from the position you take in the video. Going from "it's amazing the game came out at all because of how much was cut" to "yeah not that much was cut". Also do we actually know the development was rushed, or is that just an assumption?
@nishi I know it sounds a little weird. I was trying to put things in hindsight to how much we lost compared to the final game, and most of it are voice lines while the others are things in the game that didn’t pan out as properly as they did with the time they had. Especially looking from the December 2001 prototype, it was close to what we got in the final release. As for whether or not this game was guaranteed Rushed. We rarely get anything at all about the development of this game (and it probably will continue to be like that). But looking at the time frame of how much the game had after the Dreamcast died + how much was taken out and changed. And especially around that time where everyone had an ungodly crunch time to follow, I think you can say that Future was rushed in a couple of aspects.
@@RisingSonic17 I personally don't really agree with people defaulting to "rushed game" when games have some indication of the scope changing. A rushed game means the game is incomplete due to a lack of necessary development time. However, in this case the game just has parts that were removed. It's possible and not unlikely that the scope of the game simply was reduced and no longer included these cut pieces, and the final product at the time of release is all that the team wanted to include. I guess to put it more succinctly, I think calling it rushed implies that the game was forced to release before it had reached the quality and standard the developers intended. Since we know nothing about what their intentions were, we can't say for certain it was rushed. Treating assumptions as fact is a bad habit the games community has, so I tend to push back on it when it happens. This isn't a personal call out or anything, just to be clear.
