14:52 I don't know if this was done incorrectly on purpose or not so please disregard my comment if that's the case, but the name on the shirt definitely does not spell out ベト (beto) but rather ビート (biito), which makes a lot more sense.
Nope, you’re definitely right, I slipped up on that one with all the other info from the video. I’ll add an addendum to the description. Sorry I didn’t see this before!
I think at one point they were gonna try to implement BMX and skateboarding but time and budgeting kept it to just in-line. It would’ve been this weird Japanese Tony Hawk/Dave Mirra/JSR hybrid game.
Btw, on the trailer featuring Sugar with a male voice clips, she's using Beats Japanese voice clips. To add onto that, Yo - Yo's using Corns Japanese voice clips
I’ve heard a fan theory that one of the big inspirations of the game was the 70’s move “The Warriors” which also featured a mysterious DJ and street gangs.
I'm seeing this 2 years late because I'm digging into the individuals behind Jet Set Radio. I'm proud about the bits I've discovered so far, but definitely want to learn more, about their Jet Set Radio work and their other stuff (hence I've recently been focusing on Like a Dragon and their sports management games from around JSR's era. Thanks for the shout out to JSR Archives, I wasn't following and don't think I'd seen them at all! Anyways, I enjoyed the stories put forth.
Awesome to see a video on the dev history of JSR. I feel the series doesn't get enough love or recognition in the over all Sega-verse. And I learned some things I didn't know!
Nice video! Also, If I remember right, Hideki said something on Twitter saying that Toronto/Tomonori Sawada was the reason why Idol Taxi and Deavid Soul are featured in the game. Something also interesting to note is that in that trailer you played at the end the cops are seen at the downhill part of Shibuya-Cho which isn't present in any other releases. I guess it was a JP only thing.
Thanks for the compliment and new info? Do you have a link to the tweet? The cops on Shibuya Downhill may have also been a beta design, but we’d have to dig deeper to confirm that sort of thing
@@FalseProof you're welcome! Here's the tweet. twitter.com/hideki_naganuma/status/693286166942986240?s=21 While not directly I guess, Toronto did introduce him to them.
@@Gren7180 thanks! It’s weird how many little tidbits or mini facts you can find on Hideki’s Twitter, I found a picture of Ryuta Ueda with KISS on Twitter
I can see why rock it on was funny. It sure sounds like you're too tired to actually make a good song but it really is a good song. It's the mood. It's the feeling of being tired. Hideki is a fucking genius, there's no question.
Needed a good ol rundown, and a excellent one at that! I also appreciate showing heaps of images and context while talking instead of purely background gameplay
I’m glad you liked that part of it. I wasn’t sure initially about it but I felt like it could give the viewer a better idea of the development progression. Also skimming through footage to find more gameplay clips can be annoying 😂
When playing Jet Set Radio I all was hear and seen some odd clips while playing the game sometimes when I play the game. The mission Kogane Circus if your in the sewers for too long the music would play the same version of the songs but would switch the songs up to Super Bros., Sweet Soul brothers and then Mischievous Boys, which I thought it was a secret but it was just me waiting there for too long or it might be the Xbox version of the game. Furthernore, there is a clip of your charcter running away from police cars if you go underneath the bridge of Benten-cho I got that clip once and then never got it again, which freak me out because I thought the game was crashing.
Interesting! Do you remember what the order of the songs were exactly, and what the voice line said in Benten-cho? I',m able to actually extract audio files from the game, so I could look into your comment with more depth if there are voice lines that match your description.
Yeah the orginal song it would be: 1. Super Bros. 2. Mischievous boys 3. Sweet Soul brothers The different version: 1. Super Bros 2. Sweet Soul brother 3. Mischievous boys Furthemore, the clip form Benten-cho has no voice line just the character running away from the cops that all I can remember about that clip. Now it can be a different mission that triggers this clip in Benten-cho probably?
random point but the swatch beat thing was used in the dreamcast game Phantasy star online, so there may have been more of a push for other games to use it also
@@FalseProof seeing the demos was really interesting. the one thing that really caught my eye was the red outline logo. the final green outline one just looks so natural that i would have never though that the red would even exist.

Dude... I think Beat has a lot to do with the doomsday clock in Kibogaoka Hill in JSRF. Of course, once you defeat Rokakku... doesn't that mean... it doesn't mean...doomsday? Or doesn't it...
Yep, you should be able to if you buy it on the online Xbox store! Here’s the listing (it does say playable on One & Series): www.xbox.com/en-CA/games/store/jet-set-radio/bvql7v5txbhb
