Hideki the music you made for this game has inspired my life immensely. I produce now but as a kid i just no lifed this game. As i look back one of the best parts about this game was the music. Its so relaxing to just listen to the soundtrack. Thank you for making my childhood better than it was and for inspiring me to keep producing no matter what.
Except the original jet set radio. And many could argue a lot of these elements may have been experimented in the genesis days with the Toe Jam and Earl franchise.
@@my_name_is_love nah that's not what I'm talking about. There was some Sega image leaks recently and one of them was modern looking (updated) jet set radio characters. I'm familiar with bomb rush, it looks good I'll be getting that game.
I could cry the amount of people that love this game. This is literally the reason why I’m still alive till this day. This game saved my life. So hyped for cyber funk
From one JSRF fan to another, Thank You for taking the time in not only creating such a well crafted Documentary that feels like it belongs in that Universe... but for also letting so many others share their voice on how much Jet Set Radio Future has impacted them to this day and why this game is still beloved all these years later. Growing up, I didn't know anyone outside my family that has even heard of this series but it didn't stop me from spreading the word about the "Skating Graffiti Game with Awesome Music". Before the internet, I was convinced that no matter how much I spoke out on JSRF... it was forgotten to time even by SEGA themselves. Since then, it's the dedicated fanbase and videos like this that made me realize just how many of us there actually are who share this deep connection to this special game. From the timeless artstyle, unforgettable music, responsive controls, addictive multiplayer, and countless memories that Jet Set Radio Future alone introduced to my life... it's always such a surprise hearing similar experiences to JSRF since its 2002 release. Hopefully one day, our words will be enough to convince SEGA into at least finally porting Jet Set Radio Future to PC already. Until then, I'll continue to support fan projects like this as you did an amazing job incapsulating the feeling behind JET SET RADIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
"Documentary that feels like it belongs in that universe" is one of the highest complements I could ever receive 😌 thank you, sincerely. I adamantly tried to stay true to the overall aesthetic when producing this. And I wanted to make sure the fan community felt heard in this as, even though we are the sole reason this game is still thriving today, SEGA seems to ignore that fact and the international love for it that exists today. Which is truly a shame as this is easily the most talented, creative, passionate, kind-hearted, chillest fan base I've ever been a part of! I'm happy to read it hit home for you in so many ways! Thanks for taking the time to share this!
Also felt that it was a game only my family knew about hahaha! Jet Set Radio Future came with the XBOX but I don't we will ever forget it as we had soooo much fun with it especially since we discovered everything in it by accident just exploring that world.
Aisle 10 for me felt completely unrelated to the rest of the tracks but ultimately still resonated within the game as a whole. So many legendary tunes on these 2 games that will forever stay within my internal playlist, reminding me of such a carefree period of time of not just my life, but society as a whole.
You're totally right, that carefree period really shaped a lot of what this game is. I have an email interview from one of the developers that I'm saving for a future video but he talks about how the entire atmosphere and approach during the game's development was "carefree" and full of freedom of self-expression!
While the section was a little more brief than I wished, you get immense props for being the first doc about Jet Set that I’ve seen to even mention Grand Royal, let alone how you noted the identity and history of the Beastie Boys is integral to the variety of songs on the soundtrack. Amazing work, looking forward to seeing where else your passion takes you.
After failing to find much on youtube about that era of Grand Royal I knew I needed to cover it. But that said, I was a little confused by the information I found because so much of it stated they worked with SEGA after closing (stopping production of records, shows, merch, etc.) so if you happen to have any further sources to clarify that, please feel free to leave it here! Thanks for taking the time to share your kind words and thoughts!
Wow man, I loved this documentary. I'm a Brazilian fan of JSRF and despite the fact that there are virtually no Brazilian fans or references to the fanbase of this game, to me it has a unique vibe that no other game has come close to. "And of course, thank you for the subtitles which, even though it's in English, helped me a lot to understand."
That makes me so happy! I literally stayed up til 3AM finishing the subtitles so I'm glad someone was able to make the most of them. So much of JSRF's style is tangentially derived from bossa nova and some Brazilian culture so I'm surprised there aren't more fans there!
@@kayisthey Indeed, but I believe this is due to the lack of marketing and the fact that both Dreamcast and original Xbox were extremely rare things here in Brazil. It was more common to have PlayStation 2 as the predominant console in South America in general. That's why there was no established fanbase for Jet Set Radio overall. In fact, I only got to know Jet Set Radio through 2 Mello's recent music, and consequently, I came to understand where the inspirations for the music came from, and I ended up loving the entire vibe of Jet Set Radio.
Wow, that's so interesting! I would love to learn more about the evolution of gaming culture in Brazil. If they ever release a new JSR, assuming marketing would be present in Brazil, do you think it will be popular there now?
Really is the best feeling in the world knowing that so many others' minds were switched on after experiencing JSRF. There are many of us out there with this shared experience and this documentary proves it. What a feeling. Thank you for making this. Roll on future.
I didn't even know Woolie was a content creator, I saw a video of him in a game store a long time ago, and to me he was just the dude with dreads. And I recognized the name while listening along and I couldn't believe it was the same guy. I will have to watch his stuff.
I remember playing this with my old friend Mark Wilson. We used to stay up all night playing this game. I have some of the best childhood memories with him. We played this game damn near every single weekend we had sleepovers from 2002-2005. In 2006 I lost contact with Mark. He went to a different High School and we both just drifted away. I happened to be online looking up someone and his name popped up and I found out he went to prison for beating his parents and breaking his own moms rib cage. Turns out he suffers from Schizophrenia which blew my mind because the Mark that I remember I would have never have dreamed. I hope your doing well out there Mark. Miss you bud. When I lost contact with him in 2006 we were 13 years old. Time Flys.
I'm only human, so if you find a mistake in the documentary, let me know in the comments below and I will be sure to add any corrections in the video description. Thanks! Also, the soundtrack can be found here: th-cam.com/play/PLOZrazazCMmn--XiWotU23uTU51uhTp_4.html
At 12:45, you credited the song Sneakman (Toronto Mix) to Naganuma. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the remix used in Future was made by Toronto, aka Tomonori Sawada, who also made Electric Toothbrush from the first game.
Love Scapegoat Wax, man. Great to see Marty get his own section. That song is literally the reason I started playing JSR and JSRF, it’s usually the opposite for most.
"Aisle 10" and "Birthday Cake" are such staples of the overall vibe of the game, def had to show Marty some love with this one! He was very kind and funny during the whole process of the interview. Check out his newest album "Atomic Slam!" if you haven't already! 😎 A lot of the instrumentals in this video originated from that.
After playing Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, then seeing this JSRF footage again made me realise that BRC kinda took the genre in a different direction with a specific (and fairly serious) story to tell. It nailed the aesthetics but I still think JSRF has that sparkle and perfect humour
Cibo Matto is so underrated. Their second album, Stereotype A is a masterpiece. Moonchild, King of Silence, Sci Fi Wasabi are stand outs in that order to me. Probably my favorite band introduced to me and all through JSRF.
This documentary is so inspirational, showing what it respresent so much of the diverse culture we were living in within this game and how everyone show their love for it, I never played the game but I did listen to the music, so fresh with their songs it made me wish I had the console for the game to play myself for the first time
I never really realized that like... the placement of the tracks in the parts of the story is masterful. First, title screen you get hit with "the concept of love". That whole track is basically an overview of the vibes of the game! And then you start and you get the chill remix of "humming the bassline". When you first head out into the world, You get thrown straight into "Funky dealer", which still remains just... one of the best tracks ever. When I first played the game I started associating different tracks with different characters, mostly because when I was first playing through Shibuya Terminal and I met Combo the first track that played was "what about the future", and I could just imagine that track blasting through his huge boombox. Once you get to the big industrial Fortified Residential Zone you get the grittier harder tracks. And the sewers get their very own, unique medley that will always have a special place in my heart (mainly because I was stuck there for a week...) All of that attention to detail makes this game all good vibes and nothing else. Even inspired me to take up aggressive in-line skating! Also thank you Richard Jaques for making some of my ABSOLUTE favorite tracks from both games, Everybody Jump Around and Bokfresh
I love TH-cam and where it brings me. This game is the root of my childhood with the XBOX OG being the first console I owned and was mine at the ripe age of 6. I'm now 23 and looking back, no other skating game has combined great music, graffiti, and rollerblading across Tokyo. Spiritual successors like Bomb Rush Cyberpunk are the closest things I'll get to reliving nostalgia. Thank you for this informative video and with that, JET SET RADIO COMING TO U LIVE❤
This Doc is extremely well done and brought me straight back to my childhood when i played for the first time. This game truly encapsulates what happens when amazing creatives come together to create and are allowed to thrive in their environments
This is one of my favorite games of all time. I listen to the soundtrack at least once a year and it's saved in my playlist. I still have my copy of Jet Set Radio Future with Sega GT 2002 with the instruction manuals inside and everything. I don't even have an Xbox to play it on, but I still have this treasure of a game and I intend to keep it indefinitely. Fantastic video.
This doc is art. If I had never played the game I would've still fallen in love by the end of this. Respect for every level of the musical culture, even digging inti the history. Representation in your interviews. Everyone knows wtf they're talking about. Incredible visuals, editing, research, sound, bgm selection, just. Thank you so much. This shit is inspirational.
Let's just hope that Bomb Rush Cyberfunk can live up to the masterpiece and my all time favorite game JET SET RAAAADDDDIIIOOOO!!!! It's the closest we will get to JSRF. Regardless thank you for this!! Just anything jet set for me, I will watch or play. I need to add (Edit) Hideki Naganuma is a absolute genius and his music will live on. It's unfortunate he couldn't be interviewed. My guess is that Team Reptile has a part of that. (Last Edit) Thank you for this documentary!! I had goosebumps, smiles, head bobbin and tears lol. Everything about this about the game to the music and culture that's apart of the game and real life was so well thought and insightful. Watching this made me actually realize why I love and cherish Jet Set Radio and Future for 22 years. I already loved the game from day one and i was 10 years old when it came out so this gives me a complete understanding about the game and the workings behind the scenes. Good sir!! You have my sub!!
Believe me, I tried to get Naganuma to be in this, but after he posted immediately after my request, not to ask for interviews, I wanted to make sure to respect that. Aside from that, it makes me happy to read so many other people like yourself continued to carry the Jet Set love with them over the years 🥲 Thanks for the sub!
@kayisthey hey! No worries on getting Naganuma on board. I would think it would be hard to get a hold of. Any fan of JSR/JSRF will know Naganuma is the man and his music is influential as hell lol. If I was more well known or a content creator, I would of absolutely loved to talk about jet set radio and how it impacted my life as a kid to teenager basically to today. Jet set radio is number 1 on my MT. Rushmore of games. I have my original sealed copy of JSRF without the Sega gt 2002 half and my regular copy with Sega gt 2002 that I pop in here and there to get my JSRF fix.
I remember playing this game for the first time on my step brother’s Xbox back in 2005, there was nothing else like it, Hideki Naganuma’s music in JSRF is so amazing, so flawlessly spot on that it still holds a place in my heart 18 years later. Hideki Naganuma is pretty much the second coming of Jesus.
This video is more, “JSRF as viewed through a modern western worldview,” than it is divulging into the creation of the game. It gets pedantic especially when discussing musical genres and influences. With that said, I hope the continuous discussion of JSR amongst fans (like this video) catches the attention of Sega and they revive the series. Even if it’s just a port of JSRF for the current gen of gaming.
No idea how TH-cam sent me here, but I'm glad it did. Jet Set Radio has always been a MASSIVE influence on my tastes in both art and music, and it's insane just how often Sega has referenced the series without any sort of action to follow any of it up. Thankfully we've got Naganuma tied to so many indie projects, and we've got Bomb Rush Cyberfunk to look forward to as well! I'm also REALLY hoping that the leaked internal SEGA project for a new game is both real, and has both Hideki and Jacques attached. But this video was IMMACULATELY crafted, well done dude.
The state of youtube video essays and documentaries is currently so low that its refreshing to watch something like this. A wide variety of interesting interviewees, no pretentiousness or grasping at straws, just people being passionate about an interesting thing with pleasant pacing and high production value. Good job. Subbed
Crazy timing.. i just dug up my xbox and JSRF copy two weeks ago to finally beat the game. The Skyscraper district was a little too hard for me as a kid and I never beat the game although I replayed it up to that point so many times. Figured I owed it to myself to finally complete the game as an adult, and then this documentary pops up. Thanks for doing this, I feel like its the cherry on top of one of my favorite childhood games..
The JSR community will live on forever no matter the time, month nor year. The game and the ideas behind it was ahead of its on time. Such a gem never to be forgotten 💯💯💯
This was my first console game. On Xbox. I own the soundtrack as well. JSRF is an all time master class of gaming. I really hope we get that Jet Set remake. I desperately want to play it again. I miss my copy The more I watch this video, the more I realize this game built my childhood of gaming
this is so beautifully done, my heart is so full as this game is so important to myself and so many others, it feels like the best kept secret. The soundtrack is still part of my rotation to this day. The music and referential aesthetic is truly what makes this game so wonderful. I have endless nostalgia of me playing this with my dad for hours, he passed 2 years ago and some of my best memories are us sitting around the tv listening to this music and taking in the uniquely beautiful visuals of this game. I could go on, but i’m so glad this game is getting its flowers in a reboot! Thank you so much for this
It's comments like this that make me truly grateful to have gone through with making this. Thank you for taking the time to share your love for the game and the impact it had on you and your life. Sometimes games and the people we share them with can create the fondest memories. 😊
This was the first game I ever played, back in 2003 when it came with my Dad's xbox. And just finished another playthrough of it last night, never gets old.
A bit late to the party but glad I’m watching it through after seeing part of the premiere before it hits 10k. Interesting to hear about the cultural ties of the game and the real world. Really cool to see Richard Jacques, Marty James, and all sorts of fans give their thoughts on the impact of JSRF. I think I saw elsewhere that it took you almost two years to put it all together? That shows tremendous dedication to a series I love, and I respect that a lot. Excellent work Kay. Thank you for making this.
Super cool vidoe game documentary. Took me back a decade or so to recapture that nostalgic feeling. Props to all the community menbers and passionate artists out there creating dope art. Jet Set Radio Future is the quintessential foray in Hip-Hop, Punk Rock, Techno, Synthetic funky beats and anti-pop coupled with the most unique rollerblading and graffiti tagging gaming mechanics known to date. Thank you for showcasing this magnificent trip back to the past. I hope that BombRush CyberFunk and Lethal League will reach such momentum and acclaim. Well done! ❤❤❤❤
The deep dive into the musicians and musical history that went into this absolute timeless experience is honestly what brought this whole documentary together for me personally.
I really don't leave many, if any, comments on youtube. I'm mostly a silent viewer. Though seeing a well made and thorough documentary made about one of the games that made my childhood, I feel the need to speak on this a little, bare with me. As someone who wore his controller joysticks down playing this game, I adored every minute I spent playing JSRF. I think the documentary you've made is an incredible feat and it deserves every ounce of praise. The extensive research, tracking composers and big content creators to feature throughout the video, well written dialogue, and a clear/level headed perspective on every topic. There was a lot in this video that I learned, especially in the music section that lasted the better part of 2/3 of the video. Which leads to why I decided to write this comment. I want to be clear, I absolutely loved this doco, but I feel like something crucial was left out. Yes the music was probably the best part about the game, understandable that it got such a massive section. Yes the story, characters, and the world buiding were amazing and needed time to discuss, 100 points there. Absolutely the back story of how it all came together is a tale to be told. Though I feel like one thing that was missed and needed to be talked about. Was what it felt like to be playing this game. When someone tells you to they like a rollerblading game about fighitng the cops with graffiti, it doesn't sound that appetizing. Though once you're immersed in the crescendo of everything dioscussed in this doco, you feel like a damn HERO. There's probably a character in JSRF that suits your dream inner funk/punk mischief maker. Once you've found them you get your pick of something crazy like soaring over towers in the skyscraper disctrict, to tricking through the humble back alleys of chuo street. This was so immersive because it almost felt achievable. It almost felt like that could be me on that screen.
I never played this when it came put but i was a child and my cousin were teens that absolutely played the living heck out of this game and i would always only watch them play and they never let me play.
I’ve honestly lost count to how many times I have now watched this 🤣 I would just like to thank you so much for all your hard work towards this documentary and everyone who participated !! JSRF has always meant so much to me and shaping what my tastes are, a lot of people in my life could never really understand my love for the franchise and especially, appreciation for the music! But being able to connect to other fans such as yourself who put so much love and respect into a piece of media like this just makes me feel so understood and at home, if that makes sense? 😭 But just again , thank you for making a documentary that I have so longed for!
No problem! Honestly, when I rediscovered the game a few years ago, I was astounded that there was so little out there covering this game in a documentary format. So I decided to try to make the video I'd wanted to see as a fan, ya know? Thank you for taking the time to watch it and share your thoughts!
This game literally shaped my personality so much as a child. I still inline skate to this soundtrack and other Japanese pop. It defined a massive part of my musical taste through my life. I freaking loved this game so much I actually just did a playthrough last year
Jet Set Radio / Future aesthetics hold up extremely well and still is very unique. Both games are truly timeless. There hasn't been something similar since. Masterpieces. Since it came with the Xbox millions of people got to experience it. This game influenced me on a profound level. I played both games between the ages of 12-14. It really changed my taste in music also. I'm really into underground dance music and into the culture but that wouldn't have happened if JSR didn't plant the seed. The great street artist Keith Haring would have loved the games since one of his primary forms of his art was street graffiti and felt art should be easily accessible to the masses. Dare I say it's a continuation of Keith Haring's ideals . Unfortunately he was a victim of HIV/AIDS so he passed away 92. Not to sound cliche but it's truly one of the few games that can be classified as art.
Great doc, found from a recommendation from slope games. My early adulthood revolved around this game, still play the soundtrack regularly. Nice to see I'm not the only one to love this game. Will have to see if it runs on my Steam deck.
This is exactly what I wanted! A full deep-dive into one of my favorite games ever. This game is the poster child of just how important music is in a video game. The game itself was good, but it wouldn't be near what it was without it. I also really love how much time you spent on showcasing the influence it had on other artists and musicians and culture, in general. Even if this game doesn't have the biggest fanbase in gaming, the sheer reach its influence has had in all aspects of art, music and entertainment is so massive. Absolutely timeless. I really hope this gets a sequel! I need JSRF on modern hardware.
I’m glad I randomly stumbled upon this video. It’s so incredibly well made and the creator should really feel an immense amount of pride and accomplishment. It actually managed to bring a tear to my eye by the end lol. So much care, thought, and attention to detail went into this. Thank you.
I can't explain how much I loved this video. This game shaped so much of who I became growing up. Addicted to rollerblading, a love for graffiti, love hardcore punk, and a passion for rhythm games that comes from my enjoyment of the soundtrack. This hit all the boxes. I WATCHED the whole thing, not just played for background music. Thank you ❤
I was too young to fully enjoy this game so it exists in the recesses of my childhood memories. But the impact is there even if I don’t remember it all the way. Recently I’ve been playing Bomb Rush Cyberfunk which is the spiritual successor without a doubt. It’s definitely quenched my nostalgia. Thank you for creating this super extensive in depth retrospective on a beautiful cult classic. I will be donating and I hope you have success in your future projects 🙏🏾
i still think about this game a lot till this day, even more so the soundtrack. it was the reason i found Cibo Matto who ive listened to all of their albums over and over through the years
Same here !! Thanks to both Jet Set Radio Future and Buffy the Vampire Slayer that I was introduced to Cibo Matto!! Viva La Woman and Hotel Valentine are my top favourite albums ❤️
I was five years old when I began the obsession with this game. I still play it, I have the intro warning as my phone case and jet set stickers in my car. I’ve met really cool people by talking about this game in real life. It’s amazing how much I owe to this one game
I feel validated knowing this game resonated with many souls who started to find themselves. I still remember my 3rd eye opening up to other music genres at the age of 8, playing on an console I never asked for then preaching to my grade school friends how much this game GOATs..
This games was my introduction to dance music, and in 2009, my 16 year old self walked into my first rave with this game in the back of my mind, reminding me of the youth and rebel locked in my heart. This game shaped my future, soothed my sweet soul, and helped me to understand the concept of love. 14 years later, and they still slay!
Im tearing up. The love i have for you, the community and everyone involved is hard to describe. There is something about this that touches me deeply. Thank you for your hard work!
This is truly the deep dive this franchise deserves, nearly made me shed a tear. 🖤 JSRF was one of the first games I played as a kid where the world, the characters, the music and everything else in between just sucked me in and I was teleported to Tokyo-To and I never wanted to leave. I still listen to the soundtrack to this day just to relive playing the game. Thank you for giving JSRF its flowers 🖤✨
It's crazy how well they pulled it off with a development timeline of about 2 years! I can def relate in regards to getting completely sucked into it as a child. Oh memories ~ Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed the video!
This movie was amazing and has touched my very funky soul. Great work by everyone involved and I hope to see everyone again as soon as we return to Tokyo-To 😉❤
I am in 20 minutes in and this is like one of the best gaming documentaries/analysis I've ever seen. The style and presentation off the charts. Incredible work!
Bro, I’ve said this for years that this game was truly something special. Nothing but great memories playing this game. The characters, dancing, fashion, graffiti and more! It shaped a lot of my interests growing up. Thank you for this documentary.
Amazing job, you captured the feeling of why JSR/JSRF is so monumental, while also doing amazing research, interviewing, and educating! Again, amazing, I wish you all the views in the world ❤
brings me so much joy that there’s still such a passionate community behind my favorite game of all time. Better yet, with Bomb Rush releasing in a few months, it’s even better to see people interested in the game that was the staple of the movement. The Concept of Love continues 🔥
This is so fucking sick, putting together all these subtle elements into the limelight and helping others discover and understand why this franchise is so beloved. This docu-shit, is madd legit. Well done.
Thanks for making this! JSRF remains in my top 10 games of all time to this day. Absolutely nothing like it. This is an extremely well made doco! Nice one
Thanks for taking the time to watch it and leaving a comment! Flaws and all, it will forever be my favorite game, for so many reasons; mainly, the intent and spirit behind the game and the positive impact it's had on people like you and I.
I didn't grow up playing JSRF like most here but have always been intrigued by its aesthetic and sound. This documentary is incredibly crafted with much care and love. I'm eager to experience JSRF now. Cheers!
As soon as a friend told me about this video, I had to put it on. I can only echo the sentiments of my fellow commenters, but seriously, this was incredible! This game had a huge impact on me growing up, and you've perfectly summed up everything I feel about it. Not to mention the amazing special guests! Thank you so much for all the hard work you've put into this. ❤
One of my first conscious memories is playing Streets of Rage 2 as a little kid in the 90's and being bewildered and amazed by the music. When this game came out I was a little older and it once again was what I wanted/needed at the time. Perfect game, perfect time capsule of what the early 2000's felt like. This game is the rosetta stone for me - the whole reason I DJ and got into making beats with samples was this game, period. House, Hip-Hop, Techno, Electro, Breaks, D&B...it's all here.
I was in second grade when i got my xbox and jsrf/sega gt 2002 for christmas. Literally my childhood. I always make it a point to blast through this at least every coulle of years. Almost ALWAYS on my og xbox from back then via component (NOT composite) to my analog 480i 32" Toshiba crt tv. Bright and crispy and really pops those colors!
Saw a reddit post about this not too long ago, really didn’t expect it to be this well made considering there wasn’t a studio or anything behind it. Wow, great stuff, man. Wish you could’ve got Hideki on this like you tried haha. Also, Nas fan, huh?
got this at the release of the original xbox. was about 5 years old i think. i’m 25 now and it’s still in my top 3 favorite games of all time. one of my most creative games ever made
This makes me feel old. I remember getting a used OG Xbox in high school and, at GameStop, the Jet Set Radio/Sega GT 2002 disc came free with the Xbox. I still have the disc 20 years later, but it’s scratched to the high heavens 😂
This video essay is truly a masterpiece. It's a shame how on a platform that rewards quick and easy fast formed content, a documentary video like this has only 300K views, with a sub base of 4k. You my man are truly underrated. This video is downright movie quality. You are a true inspiration to me a my craft.
There were few games I played repeatedly on Xbox. JSRF, Halo:CE, and Rollercoaster Tycoon we're about it. I had others, but these 3 were my go to. Seeing JSRF makes me feel like I'm looking at a childhood friend that I never see anymore. Noone talks about it as much but there hasn't really been anything else like it, not to me anyways. JSRF left an itch that only JSRF can scratch.
Holy shit. Um brasileiro passando por aqui... E devo dizer que esse documentário ficou incrível! Sou um grande Fã de JSR, a comunidade de JSR é pequena... A comunidade a inda vive! esperamos um novo jogo a bastante tempo.
A small channel putting out a quality documentary like this is my absolute favorite thing about youtube! I'm only 5 minutes in and I can tell I'm going to love this. You've got another subscriber and I can't wait to watch your channel grow.
Jet Set Radio Future changed my life in ways I can’t describe. It brought my love for hip hop and music front and center. It gave me the understanding of what afrofuturism in such an early age. I’ll love a port of this game so I am able to bring and introduce my children and my soon to be wife in August. Who I am to my core.
Kind of insane how many years later to see how this influenced my lifes aesthetic and musical choices. Got me into DnB and breaks way before i even knew what that stuff was.
100/10 through-out.From an extremely special game to me being shown the upmost amount of love to the shibuya-kei/cibo matto etc. love and parliment/funkadelic homage ..everything... i know this video hit all the early/late millenials straight in the core...Thank You.
I knew this series has its fans but offline it still feels like this niche thing that only I'm into when I talk about it to my friends. Knowing that to this day there is still such a thriving and loving community for this game and this series. Its great to see
Funky Uncle enjoyed this JSRF documentary very much. Thank you all for your love
It's the man himself!!?!
You're a legend!! Thank you so much for your music
Hideki!! We love you!!!!
People here do understand (X6) the concept of love
Hideki the music you made for this game has inspired my life immensely. I produce now but as a kid i just no lifed this game. As i look back one of the best parts about this game was the music. Its so relaxing to just listen to the soundtrack. Thank you for making my childhood better than it was and for inspiring me to keep producing no matter what.
The new Jet Set Radio just been announced!!!! I'm literally crying with excitement!!! I had to share it with you
I'M LOSING MY MINDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@kayisthey I jumped out my chair while watching TGA. I seriously couldn't believe it!! Let's hope it comes out sooner than later.
I watch TGA just to see The finals release announcement. And Jet set radio news became the best announcement in the awards
LETSSSS GOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Is this real? I'll get my wallet right now
Sega was awesome to put together a soundtrack combining Hip Hop, Punk and House music. They covered all bases in the urban atmosphere. Perfect.
There really isn't anything like it!
Except the original jet set radio. And many could argue a lot of these elements may have been experimented in the genesis days with the Toe Jam and Earl franchise.
I would say the covered are the basses
One of the best OST. One of my favorites. I have it on my Spotify
@emreekcreative6073 That's just plain poppycock.
The production value on this is out of this world. Cinematic, stylish, yet easy to follow and comfortable to watch. Just sublime.

Yeah JSRF is an all time classic.never forgotten
Also felt that it was a game only my family knew about hahaha! Jet Set Radio Future came with the XBOX but I don't we will ever forget it as we had soooo much fun with it especially since we discovered everything in it by accident just exploring that world.
We are so fucking back.
F*CK YA WE ARE GG'S LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO!!😎🤙🏾🤙🏾
We never left 🙂👍
Aisle 10 for me felt completely unrelated to the rest of the tracks but ultimately still resonated within the game as a whole. So many legendary tunes on these 2 games that will forever stay within my internal playlist, reminding me of such a carefree period of time of not just my life, but society as a whole.
You're totally right, that carefree period really shaped a lot of what this game is. I have an email interview from one of the developers that I'm saving for a future video but he talks about how the entire atmosphere and approach during the game's development was "carefree" and full of freedom of self-expression!
Hello Alison
Hello Alison
I wanna hold your hand 😢
I haven't been the same man since I saw you comin' in
This hour and a half flew by so fast. I felt like a kid watching a documentary on summer break. Just my full unbridled attention and heart. Well done
Glad you enjoyed it!! Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
Bonus: Technically, the JSRF soundtrack was the last thing released under the Grand Royal label before its bankruptcy and closure.
JET SET RADIO IS BACK!!!! IM HYPED!!!
You got some of my favourite creators like WoolieVersus and 2Mello involved in JSRF video? I'm down.
I didn't even know Woolie was a content creator, I saw a video of him in a game store a long time ago, and to me he was just the dude with dreads. And I recognized the name while listening along and I couldn't believe it was the same guy. I will have to watch his stuff.
Can't forget about me. LMFAO. Lemme stop.

Thanks!

Damn. I need a port of JSRF on current gen. A remake would be awesome but I’ll take a HD port.
At 12:45, you credited the song Sneakman (Toronto Mix) to Naganuma. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the remix used in Future was made by Toronto, aka Tomonori Sawada, who also made Electric Toothbrush from the first game.
Considering JSR already existed, I think this video gives way too much credit/emphasis to JSRF. (Just my 2 cents).
@@badpope google JSRFMP
Thx a lot! Music is insane. Documentary 2
Playing the original and Future over a summer at my grandparents back in 2001 is one of my greatest memories
So, so, SO GOOD! This documentary is PERFECTLY put together and I cannot thank you enough for gracing the JSRF community with this masterpiece!
Thank YOU for the kind words and for taking the time to watch this! It truly was a joy to make 🥲
Cibo Matto is so underrated. Their second album, Stereotype A is a masterpiece. Moonchild, King of Silence, Sci Fi Wasabi are stand outs in that order to me.
Probably my favorite band introduced to me and all through JSRF.
I loved their song on the soundtrack when I was 10. It’s the biggest reason I remember the game!
That whole album BANGS. So grateful to this game for introducing me to Cibo Matto.
This documentary is so inspirational, showing what it respresent so much of the diverse culture we were living in within this game and how everyone show their love for it, I never played the game but I did listen to the music, so fresh with their songs it made me wish I had the console for the game to play myself for the first time
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Hopefully someday soon it will be available on modern platforms.
This was one of the most well-put-together documentaries I have seen on TH-cam. So stoked on JSRF!
Thank you 🥲
I love TH-cam and where it brings me.
I need to add
(Edit) Hideki Naganuma is a absolute genius and his music will live on.
To this day, even with games inspired by it, there is truly nothing else like it.
The editing on this is out of control. Some really great work and you do justice to the games aesthetic. Thank you for this
Glad you enjoyed it! I tried my hardest to keep true to the overall aesthetic 😎

Wow, thank you so much!
No pretentiousness hit the nail on the head for me. Ruins most YT video essays for me.
I miss my copy
The more I watch this video, the more I realize this game built my childhood of gaming
this is so beautifully done, my heart is so full as this game is so important to myself and so many others, it feels like the best kept secret. I could go on, but i’m so glad this game is getting its flowers
in a reboot! Thank you so much for this
It's comments like this that make me truly grateful to have gone through with making this. Thank you for taking the time to share your love for the game and the impact it had on you and your life. Sometimes games and the people we share them with can create the fondest memories. 😊
This is the Documentary Ive always wanted to see on JSRF. Great job on sourcing interviews and pulling everything together!
Well done! ❤❤❤❤
Wait, why Lethal League?
@@DaGleese Because the developers of those games have strong ties to and were strongly inspired by JSRF. You should check them out. 🙂
Thank you for taking the time to watch it and share your thoughts!
my god!!, 당신을 JSR팬들의 공로자로 인정하고 싶습니다. 모두가 젯셋에서 꿈꾸며 느끼고 있던 이야기들을 모아, 속시원하게 다큐멘터리로 만들어내셨군요!

That means so much!! Thanks for taking the time to leave your thoughts. Hope you enjoy the rest of it!
Welcome aboard! So glad you enjoyed it! I hear it's a lot of fun on Steam deck 😎
I like how they focused on the culture and its place in it rather than just being an overview of gameplay
Thank you.
WOW, my mother 62 and I love to listen to Cibo Matto, and my son loves JSRF. THIS IMPACTED my Life as an adult everyone loves this it Astronomical!
Thank you for all the support 🙏🏼
52:52 Hello Allison (as we called it 😂) was me and my sister’s jam from the soundtrack
Also, Nas fan, huh?
got this at the release of the original xbox. was about 5 years old i think. i’m 25 now and it’s still in my top 3 favorite games of all time. one of my most creative games ever made
This documentary is what we all needed man 💯💯💯💯💯
This makes me feel old.
Lots of Brazilian fans here! Love to see it and thanks for the support!
have you heard of bomb rush cyberfunk? it’s supposed to be a spiritual successor to jsrf and comes out later this year
@@kintsugikame I saw it, I'm looking forward to playing this game. It's number one on my list of most anticipated games of the year
so glad this was in extra wide ^_^ JSRF deserves a wide perspective. Thank you.
A small channel putting out a quality documentary like this is my absolute favorite thing about youtube! I'm only 5 minutes in and I can tell I'm going to love this. You've got another subscriber and I can't wait to watch your channel grow.
Wow, thank you!
Here before this blows up like an atomic bomb, keep up the good work Kay!
Thank you!!
Kind of insane how many years later to see how this influenced my lifes aesthetic and musical choices. Got me into DnB and breaks way before i even knew what that stuff was.
JSRF is a gem , I loved this game so much
There's just so much to love! 💎✨
100/10 through-out.From an extremely special game to me being shown the upmost amount of love to the shibuya-kei/cibo matto etc. love and parliment/funkadelic homage ..everything... i know this video hit all the early/late millenials straight in the core...Thank You.
The production is on another level. I love it.❤
🙏🏼
I've Waited for a video like this for YEARS! THANK YOU😊
THANK YOU for watching!
I knew this series has its fans but offline it still feels like this niche thing that only I'm into when I talk about it to my friends. Knowing that to this day there is still such a thriving and loving community for this game and this series. Its great to see
