- Ride along while I take my brand new xr650 out to the hare scramble. I picked the bike up from the dealer Saturday afternoon and we camped at the track. I got new tires installed Saturday afternoon. I removed the blinkers, and I removed the passenger pegs. no modifications were made whatsoever to suspension or engine.
I finished second out of 10 in the 30+ class and 19th overall out of 220.

That's got to suck when you're racing your lightweight motocross bike, and some dude honks his horn and passes you on a big pig😂

I love my 650r,680 big bore,stage 1 hot cam,crf450 fork and trx700 fuel injection. Great bikes too much fun.
I didn’t know that FI kits like that existed, that’s bad ass man!

That is truly amazing to be there competing on a bike that weighs nearly double than your competition which have more HP on top of it. I've owned these bikes and I can't imagine competing against motocross bikes that feel like a mtn bike in size and weight compared to a top heavy XR650L. In addition to that, you finished at such a high level; you are quite a talented rider. "Fast Guys - Slow Bikes" couldn't be anymore fitting.
Jacob, took your advise and purchased an Lectron carburetor for my 1990 XR600R ($900). Just installed and got it running. I'm here to tell you I'm a happy sumbitch. My bike came alive, it runs like a scald ape. Thank you for your suggestion. Myron Davis
900 bucks did you get a spare motor with it. Edelbrock Quick silver pumper is the real shit.

I've had my 2020 XR650L for a week now, and it was the best decision I've made in a while. I've ridden and owned many bikes but something about this XR just feels right. You will not regret it

Man is amazing how good this bike is right of the showroom, I got a 2023 also and I love it I wanna take it more to the trails!
There is nothing more satisfying than watching and riding a massive bike so competently. Surly has made me a much more competitive rider ripping a 500lb loaded bushpig around.
I am 6'2" and have owned 2 of these bikes and i would never dream of racing them. One day i would like to shake your hand.

I love these bikes, great machines especially once you get a full exhaust, Lectron Carb and proper suspension. I prefer to ride them over regular dirt bikes.

Good race there. Challenging for sure with such stiff suspension. A couple times there the front brake line hit your camera.

Nice to see you back. Love the videos. I ride an 04 pig, a 23 pig, and a ktm 300xcw. Love my ktm but gotta say i spend way more time on one of the pigs. Theyre my go to bike for sure. If you ever hit wyoming look me up.

Wondering how a KTM 690 would work for you in a race like this. It's supposed to be KTM's modern version of the XR650L. Not because KTM interests me, but because I'm interested in how good the XR650L is...
The 690 has 66% more horsepower and weighs a tiny bit less for whatever that's worth.

Dude!!! You're the GOAT!!! You must be an ox to control that big beastie like that! I just bought my 1st motorcycle - 2021 XR650L (647 original miles). Previous owner was a racer hoping to make his XR something it wasn't (his words). Only upgrade he didn't do was a Lectron carb - everything else done from when he drove it off the showroom. and YOU DID THAT RACE on a STOCK ride - amazing.

Hey man how reliable are these brand new xr650l’s? I’m so tired of people saying the old discontinued xr’s are the best bikes ever I had a 2003 xr650r and it was the biggest pile of shit ever. Never wanted to start and always made a ticking sound in the engine no matter what I did to it

I caught that guy cheating. Passed him there then he magically finished the first lap 40 sec ahead of me. Passed him again, and then I caught him coming back on the trail on the third lap. Cutting about 3 minutes of trail.

Welcome back! How was the suspension? Will you do anything to it in the future? Looked a little stiff.
What makes you say that?
In some of the slower, rougher sections, it looked like the suspension may not be soaking up the bumps and giving you a good workout. That's all. Also, I was wondering how the rear tire felt with the air pressure? Great ride, though!!

This is the first time I've raced and thought that it being quiet was actually a disadvantage. when there are other bikes around I can't hear the revs at all. I didn't know if I was over or under revving.

now if im not mistaken there should be a hole with a rubber bung in the rim just for a rim lock but if not take tire off drill a hole in the center of the rim (from the inside thats why to take the tire off) opposite of the valve stem and put a rim lock in
if this bike was for only road id advise against it but since your gonna be doing this kinda stuff it sounds necessary its that or buy a aftermarket rim that has a hole in it already
