Dealerships are such a ripoff. Even Jim Farley, the Ford CEO is fed up with this and wants to sell direct to customers. Thanks for sharing, great review and love the rant. Our whole Country needs a reset..
Ford can't do a damn thing about the dealers. Every state has laws that will protect the dealerships that paid a lot of money to be a dealer for Ford, GM, Chrysler, etc.
I am SO glad that people like you are here posting this kind of stuff for those of us who have little to no experience buying cars. I would 100% out them as a bad dealer and the people in your area deserve to know how shady they are. I'm not planning on buying a car anytime soon but this video will stay with me when I do have to replace mine when the time comes. Thanks for taking the time to make this!
The biggest reason I am hesitant to give out a name at this time is due to potential legal action for name defamation and such. I've seen crazy stuff haha. I have left multiple written reviews to reinforce my points on Google, Yelp, and Dealer Rater.
I had a similar experience with my Ford dealer, except I walked away from my order. The Maverick I ordered (17 month wait!) was more of a want than a need, so I perfectly comfortable with my decision.
After watching your videos I’m sure most people living in IL will think twice before buying anything from Huntley Ford. There’s some bad dealers out there but these guys got to take the cake
Your experience was exactly like the 3 dealers I tried to do business with when shopping for a Maverick the past 18 months. I finally got my hands on two and had to walk from both due to slimy dealers. I'm not paying a $5-8k markup and $2-4k of useless addons on a Maverick. Paying $7-12k over MSRP for a budget truck is just dumb. I've pretty much given up on the brand. Ford needs to get this under control. I want a Ford vehicle, I can afford any brand/vehicle I want, but refuse to do business with such shady dealers. They're ruining the brand.
@@Dryloch yeah I looked at them, I didn't like the interior, too much piano black plastic. I ended up getting a 22 Honda Ridgeline for now which is really nice.
@@tonyk438 also in MPLS, all the Ford dealers around here really suck. I also tried going over to WI and had the same experience, just crazy how Ford treats potential customers.
I agree. That's the WORST dealer story I have heard in awhile. I know it's not specific to Ford, but it seems that their dealerships are killing them in the realm of public opinion.
There is no difference if he told you in person vs here on TH-cam. He is just stating his opinion, you don't have like it just accept it and move on. Maybe the reason you don't like it is because your probably the car dealer he's speaking of 😩.
In the last two months, I’ve purchased two new cars…a Nissan Frontier Pro 4x and a Kia Telluride xPro, both top trim levels. Both experiences had problems that make you detest buying from dealers. Only way to get them to change is to publicly call them out.
You did a great job describing in detail how this all went down. I'm a retired 35 year car guy, Ford (33 with the same dealer) But I really think you're missing the boat somewhat by not giving the dealers namce. They deserve to be exposed by someone who knows what they're doing and experienced it first hand. Maybe this would influence the dealer community to take a step back and evaluate how they're doing business. I remember an old saying that I hated but I believe is true. "Those who can afford it the least, pay the most for a car"
I agree. Assuming he already has a lawyer, post it publicly around where everyone can see it/read it. Just stick with the facts and use the truth for a sword.
My goal before going into the dealership is to make them as frustrated as possible, drag the deal until close of business and walk away. I normally go to Quick Trip and get a couple Heath Crunch ice cream bars afterwards. I’m a psychopath.
I'm sorry to hear about your experience. That really sucks. Its good that you called up Ford corporate to report this dealership. I heard an executive over there said they would punish dealerships that try to mark up customers with pre-order custom builds. Hopefully they actually follow through on that threat. Thank goodness my experience was a little different. I picked up my Maverick XLT order last week. They did charge me the $480 increase in MSRP from when I first ordered it as well. But at least they didn't do any other mark ups or add-ons. And since they got my financing sorted out before I even got there, I was able to sign the paperwork in 15 minutes after inspecting the vehicle. Pretty quick process.
How are you forced to pay a different price? Do you not have it under contract when you place the order? Or does the order say we'll let you know the cost later... 🤔
That’s a pretty crazy experience. I’m in the car sales business and we would never change the price upon the car arriving, that just sounds like a massive headache and bad customer service. They should have never taken your order or deposit if they didn’t want to sell you the truck at that price point. Everything is supposed to be agreed on prior to ordering
For anyone who doesn't already know, all of that negotiating and waiting for different things is all intentional. Most people hate the car buying process anyway and those waiting periods just add to the stress so it wears people down to where they are willing to sign almost anything just to get the hell out of there.
It's not all the dealerships from ford , you can not blame the ford Co, yes there are some bad dealerships from ford ,I tell you this because about two months ago I finally got my hybrid maverick I supposed to get 2022 , instead, because it took one year and a half to get it . I was getting tire of hearing later ,later. But when the dealer ship call me to that my truck was ready ,I had no problem at all , i did not have to pay extra for a 23 everything went smooth and I'm so happy I bought it ,I oneself waa foud of ford ,but have no regrets 👍I made my purchase in las vegas nevada ,at friendly ford I'm sorry he went to this trouble I guess I was lucky..always ask questions ,good luck. I love my truck ,,
EVERY mainstream car manufacturer has dealerships like this. This horror story is not unique to this dealership and certainly not unique to Ford. It's actually reassuring that Ford took an interest in this debacle; I had a friend call Hyundai about a huge dealership issue and Hyundai corporate shrugged them off. The Maverick is a special case because it is a hot vehicle and people have to have them; like was said in the video, the dealer could blow the person who ordered it off and sell it several times over to someone willing to pay the premium.
Waited 16 months for my XLT HYBRID . Arrived last month and my dealer experience was quite positive with no markup or hidden surprises. Went with Ford Folsom, CA, instead of my local (much closer) dealer which had a 10k markup.
When I went in to pick up my 22 converted to 23 order in January when it arrived I was fully prepared to go to battle after hearing horror stories like this. However, I was treated fairly, they honored the price protection, farm bureau discount (despite telling me once that it wasn't valid anymore until I showed them my pre approved paper with the code on it), and deposit fee of 500 that I put down when I originally ordered in Jan of 22. I walked out with the correct numbers plus TTL fees and no added on BS or attempts to. I mean you have the finance guy in the office trying to push the extended warranty and various things but "no thanks" was enough. Thank god I ended up with a decent dealership. I as well got a pretty dismal interest rate of about 7& but have since refinanced at my CU for better so thats all good.
This exact same thing happened to me but at a Toyota dealership. I walked tf out of there and bought a new car at another dealer that knew how to treat their clients 😊
I've bought quite a few cars new and used since 1992. Every time I start the process, I think I will enjoy it. About 30 minutes into the shopping "experience," I remember how much I hate car shopping.
You're not the only one. I'd rather put up with repairs than buy a car at a dealer. Turning a wrench is easier and not nearly as stressful as the dealer buying process. Too bad repair parts are so hard to get now. It's the backorder game. Seems only dealer or manufacturer greed remains on the menu.
The dealership here in Mississippi was trying to do the same thing to me for $3,000 above MSRP. I too ordered my Maverick 7 months ago for the agreed price of MSRP plus tax, title and license. They sent me the new invoice and it was going to be $3,000 more. After some discussion they took that $3,000 off.
I ordered a 2022 maverick hybrid xlt lux copilot 360. From a dealership in Salina, KS and had an absolutely wonderful experience from the time I ordered it to when I had it delivered to my home. I waited 15 months, had gotten what was promised at time of order, including excellent customer service, communication, no hard sales pitches at all. I used this dealership after my local ford dealership, who I had done business with for 30 years tried to screw me. I got my maverick exactly at msrp. Long mcarthur ford is awesome
Thank you, Thank you Thank you for taking the time in making this video. It's right on point and should be a mandatory view before anyone goes to a car dealer to purchase a new or used vehicle. It's so sad that they try to take advantage of good people. If everyone would be more informed the dealers would not get away with such deceptive practices. It's time for the government to investigate !!!! Please keep up the good work PS I watched your video and additional two times before I went to see my local car dealer and begin the negotiation process
Just goes to show, you need a few things to have price protection. 1. Order Sheet 2. Signed buyers order (you, salesman and manager) 3. The ability to contact a local Ford rep to request assistance in these situations. It shouldn’t have to require all this. But having these can help.
I had all this and it made zero difference. Original order sheet, written confirmation of MSRP plus TTL, and documentation directly from corporate about the price protection. The dealer didn't care.
If you can’t meet with your sales manager / general manager at time of order… even to step out and say hello… red flag. Get a business card from everyone you talk to. Circle jerk tricks they use… 1. Manager is not available to see you (walk ins) 2. Manager not available to take your call. 3. Transfer to voicemail… only voicemail box is full
It's a good thing people like you post this kind of situation. This will help many people about this dealership & others when buying a new or preowned car.
The problem is they are doing this after you've already waited 6+ months for the vehicle. So either you get different vehicle that's not as popular, or you wait another 6+ months ordering from another dealer.
That's just one dealership. Believe it or not, nearly all of them pull some sort of added-charges trick in addition to changing the price of the vehicle.
This is a customer order, not a vehicle on the lot. They'll send you a Christmas card if you walk away from your Maverick customer order, after they sell your MSRP customer order for 8K above that to someone else.
I had a negative experience at a Ford dealer in 2000. Nothing as bad as this experience thankfully, but it still soured me from ever going to this particular dealer again.
Crazy story! Just picked my maverick up 3 days ago. Walked in, signed msrp paper work. Ford wanted my business, they offered me better apr then my pre approval. Walked out with a 5% apr on my truck. Hearing 8-13% apr 😳 makes me sick. They didn’t add any other crap on the truck, just got wheel and rim protection. I had a good experience with my dealer. They didn’t pull crap like that dealer. I would have walked out and called corporate. I wouldnt deal with a dealership like that. Straight trash man. Sorry you dealt with that
Thanks for posting these videos as a heads up. I've been on the "waiting list" for when the order banks open back up later this year for a few months and I'm looking forward to the dealership trying to give me the runaround when it finally does come in. They've told me it'll just be MSRP plus TTL, but they had a used lariat on the lot posted for $48,000 so I expect them to try to rip me off.
Had a simliar issue with an Audi Dealer in CA. They tried to bully me out of contesting the car being damaged on delivery. Ended up having to hire a contract lawyer to send them a letter. Letter ended up being enough to get all my money back + legal fees.
Sorry you went through this, but your video is so helpful; thanks for posting! I'm still waiting for my 2023 Maverick and I've been made the same promises that were made to you. Hopefully I have an honest dealer, but if not, thank you for the ammunition to fight back.
I was a loyal Ford owner for nearly 40 years. After Ford stopped building cars or anything affordable, I switched to Hyundai and have not regretted it in the past four years. Ford you are really doing a bad job and you aren't the same company my loyal Ford Family (going back to the 50's) knew and loved. I am so glad I bought in January 2019 before all the pandemic stuff hit. My car will be paid off in December (less than 48 months!) and I won't need to buy another. I am not going to pay over inflated prices nor will I play the games the dealer did with you. I also sold cars and you are never required to use their financing. Typical low rent F&I move trying to get you to buy at a higher rate so they can pad the backend.
I wanted a Tucson hybrid at first. Went to 3 different Hyundai dealers and they all had $5000 market adjustments added to their Tucsons. I ended up getting a Bronco Sport for MSRP at a Ford dealer with little hassle. I pre-ordered a Maverick as well that will be delivered in April.
It's a decision on their part. It's not really don't want to sell affordable vehicles it's that they don't want to sell generic ones. Like if you wanted meaningless boring vehicle that's what Hyundai is. If you want the cheapest vehicle possible kia or Mitsubishi. Ford is about a lifestyle.
I consult dealerships across the country and this is for some reason becoming increasingly common with Ford dealers in particular. These franchisees are going to drive themselves out of business. Edit: You're in Chicagoland? I have numerous dealers around IL. Would love to hear more about this..
"Increasingly common" is an understatement. I tried to shop through 5 dealers in the Minneapolis MN area and 1 in WI, and all played these games. All of them would post MSRP on their site and would not talk about a markup until asked or when it came time to deal. Also one dealer is driving their Mavericks for a few hundred miles and then selling them as used with a "fair market adjusted pricing". Assuming that's to bend around looking bad for marking them up past MSRP... The Maverick is a cool truck but does not make sense financially above MSRP. Ford is really burning it's bridges with its consumers that want to be Ford owners but won't put up with their dealer BS.
@@huie1983 Couldn't agree with you more on this. I'm finding more and more that no haggle price locations (E.g; CarMax model) are the best experience for consumers currently, I just picked up a 22 GMC Canyon Elevation Crew Cab 4WD (~$42k sticker brand new before TTL) with 8.5k miles on it for $35,000 with a total of like $240 for tags and title, plus they gave me 4-5k over what franchise dealers would for my trade. At the end of the day, what most consumers truly hate is the last minute shaft, undisclosed amounts/fees, etc. Personally, I would maybe buy a vehicle that is slightly above MSRP if the dealership is just straight forward on their other aspects of pricing. I can at least respect if somebody says "we're charging $1,000 over suggested retail because of how rare these are to come by currently."; or similar. Not when you specifically order a model from the OEM, though - that's absolute bullshit. It blows my mind that as business owners, these franchisees do not see how these practices will inevitably catch up to them. Burning a bridge with a consumer in their 30s is probably the worst long term decision you can make as a dealer - think about all of the missed future opportunities from potential vehicle sales.
Thank you for taking the time and effort to create this video. I do wish you spoke the name of the dealership, but I understand it might not be a good idea as far as liability in this new lawyer driven society. Disappointing businesses need to be exploited. Please remember when buying a vehicle you must maintain patience and perseverance. Keep your guard up and never let emotions get the best of you.
I was one of the 1st in the Country to get a Maverick 2.0 AWD back in Sept of 2021. They are great little trucks! Back then, I paid MSRP. Sorry this happened dude but you will absolutely love this little Truck!
Thanks so much for sharing this with all of us. I have had so many similar experiences at dealers and it's crazy because I used to be in the business as a General Sales manager but luckily I worked for dealership where the owner truly was a honest and good person and this stuff didn't go on in our store. It's so sad as you say to think of folks who don't know or understand the business , they truly get robbed. I've seen people try to trade their car in only to find out that they are so upside down in the value versus what they owe. So many times when I would look at their paperwork from the purchase they were sold warranties for $2000 and protection packages for another $2000 and then an insane interest rate so they would be impossible to trade in and unfortunately even when we would explain to them what happens in many cases they'd get mad at us thinking we were giving them a low ball number on their trade. It is sad and the manufacturers like Ford need to step in and stop this nonsense that goes on at far too many dealers. Thanks for sharing and I love your Maverick. We would like to get one but the dealers I've been in contact in our local market all want between $5000-$10,000 over sticker and I'm not willing to do that. They all have the attitude, that oh well, we could sell in ten times for that mark up so if your not willing to, goodbye. Great customer service that ruins Ford's reputation and also their desire to bring an affordable small and unique truck to market. Thanks again for sharing, you Rock!
That is the biggest reason I made this video, is to try to help others who wouldn't be able to spot these games. If this even stops one person from getting ripped off, it has served its purpose.
@@FocusedGarage You have done us all a service to take the time and document this and I hope Ford and all the manufacturers act to stop their dealers from playing these games and robbing people. Thanks again!
Dealerships know that they often have the upper hand. They know that buying a car is an emotional thing. Many, if not most buyers are payment-driven and don’t care how many years it will take to actually pay off the vehicle or the out the door price. I’m glad you stood your ground. They have gotten crazy with the dealer markups too. I will NEVER pay over MSRP.
We should team up on this subject. Too many order holders are getting bullied when they go to pick up their Mavs under the threat (duress) that if they don't pay 5k over, the dealer will sell their build to someone else at 10-15k over. My dealer actually had a +10k ADM sticker on my Mav when my wife and I showed up, probably to justify trying to charge us more, as if doing us a favor. This is shown on my video uploaded 11-6-22. The finance guy tried to get us to sign in a hurry and got mad when I asked questions. I took a photo of the original contract he put in front of us before we made him change it. Oh and like you, we paid their $500 paint protection because the experience was so exhausting and we gave up on that. I don't think it was ever applied.
I also got bullied for $600 dollars not much but it makes me mad ! That I can't do anything about it I hope someone makes a lawsuit count me in. U will make a video this weekend. My dealership made a mistake on my order and added 4k tow package/pilot 360/and rear sliding window plus didn't respect the price and charged me the extra $500 plus I paid for a $100 tow hitch. Other thant that it was ok they didn't mark up the msrp price or accessories Bottom line I'm mad for the extra $600 I paid 😡🤬
Can't we report this to Ford HQ? I pick up mine in April. My name is attached to this vehicle so if they sell it to someone else, it's my understanding that we should report it. I have a copy of the purchase agreement from pre-order window.
@WhAsian we can I will call them Monday and let them know. But it's also fords fault because the sticker price on the window from ford the extra $500 was added so that's the price my dealer gave me regardless of the agreement price we had since September. If you check the I'm sure in your case it will be the same
This miscalculating of taxes is actually one of the most egregious offenses an entity could do. The IRS would be very happy to hear that part of your experience.
Same thing is happening to me right now with the MSRP increase. They're trying to say the purchase order is not a legally binding document if you read the fine print, but can't point to any part of the document that would indicate that. They also called it a "good faith" agreement.
Good for you! Please post your reviews! These dealerships need to be taught the hard way! My local Ford dealership was asking up to $35,000 over MSRP for the new Bronco's! Saying it was a market adjustment. I was looking to trade in my F150 but I'm not desperate! It's disgusting how they rip us off. I'll wait or buy elsewhere.... but we need to shame these evil dealerships.
Had a coworker get one and took forever. After 2 weeks of driving there was a crack in the block. Got them to replace engine. Then as they did that they somehow destroyed the transmission. So he got a new truck that had the engine and transmission replaced. I cant believe he actually kept the truck and not just threw it back at them
FORDS are no longer afFORDable....I wanted a new Bronco, it would have been 50K and take forever to get one. I decided on a Mazda CX-5 Carbon Edition.. Not the same, but I got it for 31,500 and it gets 30mpg.I hope the truck serves you well.
I did the same thing with helping my son get a car last June 2022. He also has a Mazda CX-5, what a great car and no mark up or ridiculous dealer fees or dealer add ons. These dealer that want to take advantage of people can all go to HELL!!! I just wish people would stop paying the extra fees unfortunately the people that pay these extras are driving the the prices up!
Good job ! I had a much better experience buying 2 Bronco Sports in the last year. My daughter and I both paid msrp and I maxed the 3 year 0% finance 😂 and my daughter was able to obtain her own financing at a better rate than Ford was offering.
This is why you should have emailed him those questions.... so you had the answers about no extra charges in writing. I had my dealer GM sign the order sheet and write "MSRP + DOC = (insert OTD Price".
@@FocusedGarage the same thing was happening to Bronco owners in 2021 adn 2022 and Ford's CEO Jim Farley said that Ford Corp could not help, UNLESS the buyer had a signed sales order. No other signed doc would suffice.
Tried to buy a Ford and had a similar experience. Wound up down the street at the Hyundai store. Prompt, courteous and provided excellent customer service. I was offered a few "ups" and politely declined. No sales pressure. No waiting or wear down sales tactics. In and out. Very happy with product too.
I purchased a number of vehicles from a dealership where there was a bar/restaurant across the street which is where I would go while waiting for the finance guy. I always told them that the longer I had to wait the more I would have to drink and the less pleasant THEIR experience would be while we did the paperwork. Never had to wait for more than one drink.
Bought my first new truck in 1973 at age 22. Since then I've purchased many new cars and sadly the buying experience hasn't changed. It's wear the customer down and he or she finally gives in. The shortest period of time to get out of the dealership was when I bought a new 2003 Ford cargo van. It was a cash sale and yet I still spent over 2 hours with the finance dealer with him trying to inflate the deal with additional items I kept rejecting. I'd love to buy a new Maverick but don't want to go through another nightmare buying experience, it's just not worth it.
I'm sorry that happened to you. My 2022 turned into a 2023 and my dealer honored the price protection! I did wait 15 months from ordering to delivery. Also gave me an additional discount for waiting so long, so my MSRP for a Maverick Lariat was 35 and some change, I got it for 29,500!
Your story finished me off. I had decided not to mess around with ordering a Maverick and was considering giving up on ford all together. Ford has good trucks but the dealers have killer it. Thanks for the flash drive heads up, had not heard of that before.
We ordered back in the fall of last year and received our Maverick in March. We had nothing but a good experience with our dealer and the interest rate was calculated from when we ordered 4.9% which was a bonus. It was no hassle and no extra charges. Sorry to hear you had problems with your dealer, there's always the bad one in every barrel. As for the Maverick we love it
This is just sooo common now. All these stealerships are making a killing. They also received ppp loans during lockdown and had them all forgiven and still turn around and screw their customers.
I think a few dealerships take and do these orders, knowing that when it arrives, they will try to steal it out from under you in a way, so they can sell it for more profit and say the order ended up not being taken in the end. They attack you with BS.
Glad to hear you start off by repeating what I said over and over myself after buying my Maverick from my local dealer. I feel like I rescued my truck from them. After test driving one and deciding to buy one they had on their lot, I called to put down a down payment for them to hold that particular vehicle, and in so doing inadvertently did the price negotiation for the final out the door price over the phone instead of at the dealer, which everyone says is the thing to do. I balked at a bunch of add ons, one of which was a dealer installed item that could not be taken off. The salesman not only should have told me about this add on up front, but missed the opportunity to upsell this add on to me. While going back and forth over the items, the salesman, a young guy, put his boss on the phone who basically yelled at me the whole time all the while throwing the young salesman under the bus right in front of him, saying the kid didn't know what he was doing. Astounding. The other thing I was suggested doing and did was to get outside financing, so when I went to pick up the truck, I had a check from my bank (who gave me the best deal) which they were all visibly unhappy about. No warm and fuzzy feelings here. They said they didn't care and that they don't make any money on their in house financing. That's just bull crap. After all that, the young salesman wanted me to rate my experience with him as a salesman while standing in front of him, and then got upset at me when I had to honestly give him a 2 out of 5. More astounding. I had to put the dealer plate frame on my plate to drive it home. First thing I did when I got home was to take that plate frame off (made of cheap plastic) and throw it in the trash, as well as take off the dealer decals.
I just bought a Lexus and it was such an easy transaction. I enjoyed the experience. No hassles or game playing, just a nice place to do business with.
More of this bad behaviour done at all dealerships on a regular basis. I wish more media coverage on this bad practice was done. Good for you in sticking to your original plan & sharing your experience.
I agree djscandela. It's always a huge letdown when the media does a disservice to the rest of us like that. That's part of the reason I watch youtube instead of TV.
14:46 Yes! Please tell your viewers! Noone should have to go through what you did and we do every day. There are only two Ford dealers in Michigan that will sell a Maverick without an extra markup.
We Love you Brother for all the hard work to defeat these thieves and SPREADING this so all of us out here know not to go to this dealership and to know how to handle future endeavors. Thank you Brother, God Bless you and all those you Love.
You didn't let them win. You are a solider. Sleazy business is everywhere and that dealer will probably continue to screw people. BBB needs to start going after dealers. They have had 3 years of their best profits ever in the existence of automobiles. I hope their profits turn into door closing debts as the market keeps moving its' way down. The credit card trick is genius. May have to pay a small service percentage, but the protection offered is genius.
I'm glad you got your. I got mine yesterday.....after 18 months. Luckily, my experience wasn't that bad. I did go thru 4 different sales guys while waiting for the truck.
Ya you do have to be careful of car dealers and the sales managers. I purchased Ford Ranger truck my very first new truck ever. It wasn’t very good experience n after that I never went back.
I wish EACH AND EVERY customer would fight back like this man. I don't buy from dealerships often but I have had to walk out of more than I purchased from. I don't mind leaving empty handed but I cannot forgive myself if I allow someone to rip me off.
When you order a vehicle and wait 7 months for it, they really do have the upper hand. Especially knowing that if you walk, they will be able to sell it to someone else for even more than you were going to pay. What a weird time we are living in.
@@lawrencefranck9417 People are willing to pay the fees, and add one. You could not be more wrong. That could change, with the current market shifting.
I’m on my second Maverick purchased form the same dealer in British Columbia. I have nothing but great comments about the purchase, both times. I can’t speak about other dealers but Family Ford was exemplary.
Not Huntley Ford. They don’t care what you threaten. Look at all the bbb complaints they have accrued. They will just keep trying to screw you (and others). When I was there they even tried to force “LoJack” on me for over $8,000 when the car already had factory installed onstar. Also, the flash drive numbers are different when you open it up later on. They somehow scan the originals with your ink signature and then alter the numbers with adobe or some similar program. They are complete garbage !!
This is why my last 2 vehicle purchases were EV’s (No Dealership network). Both were awesome experiences and I will never walk into a dealership again.
Hey brother, love the video. Thank you for speaking truth and letting others know what to look out for. I feel for you and sorry you had such a horrible experience. That Maverick is a sexy beast and I get so excited when I spot one in the wild. The hybrid motor that comes with the base model kick so much butt when it comes to mpg. What made you go for the ecoboost? I know it offers more HP but giving up on that sweet gas savings is hard to pass up, imho. Anyways, stay safe out there brother.
Sounds like I was lucky with the dealership I used to order an Escape PHEV last year. They didn't seem that familiar with PHEV and EV tech, but that was about the worst of it. Pricing was exactly what I expected it to be.
That is why we call them "Stealerships". Thank you for your great review. Thank you for your detailed critique. It was not full of embellishments and exaggerations thus making it quite believable and respectful. The icing on the cake is that you had the class and used good discretion in not tell us the name of the dealership but we can figure it out on our own.
No offence, but all the things you're complaining about you allowed because in the end you bought the vehicle. You should have walked out and made this video with the name of the dealer.
My next new truck is a restored pre-73 truck. So I don’t have to deal with the new electronics, I can do my own work on it, and I cam drop any Ford engine I prefer into it. And not deal with this crap as well. Between the modern sales experience and the mandated features (especially the electronics like turning the motor off at idle) I’m done with the new vehicles.
I'm sorry for your buying experience, I have purchased several new vehicles in my lifetime. The experience you relate is not unusual in the automotive industry. Your resistance to bait and switch price tactics is applauded greatly. One tactic I found helpful on a special order vehicle, is to order a limited edition of that vehicle. GNX
Perhaps it is from the perspective of my 74 years, but I believe that, at bottom, this is your fault on so many levels. I would never wait months for a stupid car to be delivered. I would never enter into a 72 month loan. But, much more important, I would have walked out from the dealership at the first hint of not intending to stick to their deal or indeed, lying to you. Due to your experience, you were able to make some sort of deal.. How about most of us who do not have that experience or your blind intent to consummate this deal What you did only deepens the problem facing car buyers.
Why do you reward them with your business/money? When we overpay and accept this treatment we just get more bad treatment. Should have bailed and gone to a reputable dealer (if such a business exists anymore). Paying MSRP is no great deal. And I doubt that this is a 100k+ truck anyway. Your “I want to have this car” attitude hurts all consumers, promoting price inflation.
Actually Frank, walking away promotes inflation. The dealer wants you upset. They will high five each other as you walk because they no longer are obligated to you and can ADM +$20k. That's inflation.
Exactly this. If I walked they would've sold it to someone else for even more money lol. Also, I waited 7+ months for this and order banks are closed so it's not like I could just go somewhere else and get another. Stuck in a really strange position here. Trust me, I didn't wanna give them my business.
Oh my gosh, this vid is so appreciated. I want a Mav and am so distant from knowing what the dealership could do to me taking-advantage-wise. Thanks for this vid! If I pull the lever, I'll remember this when it comes time...and if you don't mind, I might reach out to you for some guidance.
The best thing that has kept me from buying Ford products is being forced to drive them at work. So many cheap, fragile parts. At least 1 of our 15 car fleet is at the shop for repairs on a weekly basis, often times up to 4 at a time.
The launch of the Maverick is such a fascinating case study in great marketing with bad analysis. So much of the issue could be solved if they had just priced the MSRP at 31K instead of 23K. That difference is the 'price the market will bear'. As such demand is so high, dealers know they are leaving $ on the table if the sell it for lower. Is it shitty, yea, but they are still selling them at the inflated prices. The engineers did a great job cutting costs smart enough on the platform to sell em at the lower price, but dealers know a good thing when they see it. Is it worth losing brand loyalty over? 🤔
My dad's GF was wanting to get a bigger car to fit the whole family for road trips. (She had a Chevy equinox) We were looking to get a Ford explorer, but of course the markups were too much so someone at the dealership helped her configure her car to her needs kinda like in this video. A few weeks went by and someone tells my dad's GF at work that our local Infiniti dealership was not marking up any of their vehicles at all. And we managed to grab the last QX60 on their lot that day, with no markups or hidden fees.
I love Ford trucks F150, F250, etc..but they’ve become one of the most slimiest Brands in the last couple of years. I ended up getting a New Ram Truck at a great price and Love it.
Dealerships are such a ripoff. Even Jim Farley, the Ford CEO is fed up with this and wants to sell direct to customers. Thanks for sharing, great review and love the rant. Our whole Country needs a reset..
Wasn’t Farley in Tommy Boy
Ford can't do a damn thing about the dealers. Every state has laws that will protect the dealerships that paid a lot of money to be a dealer for Ford, GM, Chrysler, etc.
As much as Ford says they want to do this, I can't help but feel that is all for good press and nothing will actually be done.
You are ABSOLUTELY correct. We let them get away with lying, powerbooking, high finance costs, horrible service and warranty. Dump them ALL.
They been saying that shit for years it aint happening
I am SO glad that people like you are here posting this kind of stuff for those of us who have little to no experience buying cars. I would 100% out them as a bad dealer and the people in your area deserve to know how shady they are. I'm not planning on buying a car anytime soon but this video will stay with me when I do have to replace mine when the time comes. Thanks for taking the time to make this!
Agreed 👍
Happy to share some knowledge for you!

This is so wrong. Please tell the dealers name so no one else has to deal with a horrible dealer like this. Don't give them cover... Thanks
Add salesmanship name, manager's name, dealer location, city, state. Thanks for postins.
Stop crying if You don't want said Names!
he doesn't say names simply because he is afraid of being sued for slander. it's bs but that's why
At least tell us what city you purchased it in please...
You did the dealerhsip a FAVOR by walking away. Didn't teach them no lesson.
@@robsdeviceunknown They would have won either way.

I bought your truck and paid cash. Hope you're not mad bro. 😊😊😮
17 months makes it a used car. I wouldn't wait 17 days. Good move.
I hear Santa Cruz are not selling too hot right now. Maybe look for a deal on one of those...
@@Dryloch yeah I looked at them, I didn't like the interior, too much piano black plastic. I ended up getting a 22 Honda Ridgeline for now which is really nice.
It is wild that they have all these people wanting to buy, but horrible and unethical dealers making it impossible.
I've been trying to get one in Minneapolis. So far that is every Ford dealer I've dealt with.
@@tonyk438 also in MPLS, all the Ford dealers around here really suck. I also tried going over to WI and had the same experience, just crazy how Ford treats potential customers.
You should definitely give out the name of the dealer so we know who NOT to deal with when purchasing a new Ford vehicle. Thanks for all the info!
I agree. That's the WORST dealer story I have heard in awhile. I know it's not specific to Ford, but it seems that their dealerships are killing them in the realm of public opinion.
Actually, from what I've heard this is a pretty common experience at dealers these days.
Probably applicable to all Ford dealerships.
Absolutely, he should open himself to a lawsuit for your benefit.
I've heard Kia dealers are just as bad, if not worse, than Ford dealers.
So, the Fentanyl business is good?
In think the only language they speak is money
Dang a Nissan and a Kia 😳
I’m a psychopath.
last time i bought a truck, i brought my mom who loves doing that, at 11PM with everyone wanting to go home, they gave my mom what she asked for
Make em suffer! Haha
That’s bad!…. Even by my standards lol 😂
Customers like this create dealers like that.
Years ago, people like you infuriated me. These days, I have a newfound appreciation for your type. 🌻🌻👍👍
I swear it’s a badge of honor for these dealers to see who can be the sleaziest. This is why people despise going to the dealer. Disgusting behavior.
I almost want to follow up with Ford to see what came of the conversation. Unfortunately I fear that nothing came of it. haha.
I would walk out go somewhere else
That’s a pretty crazy experience. I’m in the car sales business and we would never change the price upon the car arriving, that just sounds like a massive headache and bad customer service. They should have never taken your order or deposit if they didn’t want to sell you the truck at that price point. Everything is supposed to be agreed on prior to ordering
For anyone who doesn't already know, all of that negotiating and waiting for different things is all intentional. Most people hate the car buying process anyway and those waiting periods just add to the stress so it wears people down to where they are willing to sign almost anything just to get the hell out of there.
Wow!! With that kind of purchasing experience, I would NEVER buy another Ford! I appreciate your honesty! Stealerships at their finest!
Not to mention, Ford's CEO admitting that their quality is shit and their warranty costs are out of control. Won't go anywhere near a modern Ford.
I will think long and hard about ever doing it myself again.
Glad to hear there are some good ones!
Thomas glad you named the dealership no one on here tells us where not to buy.
Great job on the purchase. It's sad these stories are becoming a minority in what we hear.
This exact same thing happened to me but at a Toyota dealership. I walked tf out of there and bought a new car at another dealer that knew how to treat their clients 😊
That is what the dealer wanted you to do so they could add a big markup.
- Went through that with Toyota trying to add $ 8000 to the price told them too shove that thing up their ass .
What dealership? Nobody can tell us who is misbehaving.
I've bought quite a few cars new and used since 1992. Every time I start the process, I think I will enjoy it. About 30 minutes into the shopping "experience," I remember how much I hate car shopping.
I wish I could convey a situation half as good as you, great job.
I appreciate that!
This is why I drive a 23 year old car. I'm scared to go up against a car dealer, bc I don't know 90% of what you talked about.
Even though I now live in Arizona, I always go back to the Garcia dealerships in Albuquerque. Never got cheated or shaded.
This is why we used Ford X-plan, take the pricing out of the dealers hand as much as possible. And we saved up and are paying cash, no financing bs.
Research reviews on the dealer and do research on TH-cam for fees to avoid
I hope this video gives ammunition to those who might not have known some of this stuff before.
Crazy they are trying this stuff. So frustrating.
This video should be mandatory and required viewing before purchasing any car from any dealer. Well done, very instructive!
1. Order Sheet
2. Signed buyers order (you, salesman and manager)
Circle jerk tricks they use…
1. Manager is not available to see you (walk ins)
2. Manager not available to take your call.
3. Transfer to voicemail… only voicemail box is full
@@FocusedGarage at that point you call your ford contact right in front of the salesman. Just watch how quickly things turn around.

Thank you for understanding! That is my intent. I want people to see this video and learn from it to apply it to their own situations.
I am always shocked that folks just don't stand up and leave when stuff like this happens. I'd just get my down back and leave, never to return.

Sorry he went through what 99% all of us go through?
Ford Dealer ratings have been consistently dropping over the last few years. Experiences like this make me see why.
@@FocusedGarage should have went to Long McArthur. My MSRP Lariat hybrid rollover is about to be delivered to them and free shipping to me.
@@Crunchifyable2 Kia, Hyundai, and Mitsubishi are making excellent vehicles. The only advantage Ford has the F-150s.
I consult dealerships across the country and this is for some reason becoming increasingly common with Ford dealers in particular. These franchisees are going to drive themselves out of business.
Edit: You're in Chicagoland? I have numerous dealers around IL. Would love to hear more about this..
Shoot me a private message either through our Facebook or Instagram and I'd love to talk to you about it!
Tax fraud is a new one
I've never had less leverage when buying a car, mainly because I ordered this and waited for it. It was awful.
They know P T Barnum was right
I won't even pay msrp, there's dealers out there taking 6 to 10 k off msrp now (granger ford for one)
Other thant that it was ok they didn't mark up the msrp price or accessories
Bottom line I'm mad for the extra $600 I paid 😡🤬
Can't we report this to Ford HQ? I pick up mine in April. My name is attached to this vehicle so if they sell it to someone else, it's my understanding that we should report it. I have a copy of the purchase agreement from pre-order window.
@WhAsian we can I will call them Monday and let them know. But it's also fords fault because the sticker price on the window from ford the extra $500 was added so that's the price my dealer gave me regardless of the agreement price we had since September. If you check the I'm sure in your case it will be the same
NAME THEM
Any one who pays over msrp or any other fake fees is out of touch. A fool and his money is soon parted.
To the dealers, what goes around comes around, you should name and shame this dealer. It’s your obligation.
This miscalculating of taxes is actually one of the most egregious offenses an entity could do. The IRS would be very happy to hear that part of your experience.
Happened to one of my old computer science teachers. He offered to fix their software on the spot : )
They weren't too happy.
Not an IRS issue. Sales tax is a state department of revenue issue.
Same thing is happening to me right now with the MSRP increase. They're trying to say the purchase order is not a legally binding document if you read the fine print, but can't point to any part of the document that would indicate that. They also called it a "good faith" agreement.
The dealer I used had nothing but BAD FAITH. lol
Suckers are born every minute. Don't be a sucker.
Thank you for sharing this! People need to see what some dealers do!!
Happy to help and share the info!
It is sad because posting these reviews feel like you are doing so little, but any bit helps.
Had a coworker get one and took forever. After 2 weeks of driving there was a crack in the block. Got them to replace engine. Then as they did that they somehow destroyed the transmission. So he got a new truck that had the engine and transmission replaced. I cant believe he actually kept the truck and not just threw it back at them
Bought my Maverick from Romeo Ford in Kingston, NY. It took a year to come in. When it did, there were no hassles, no extra charges. Great truck.
I miss the 0% for 72 months that Ford used to do. hahaha
This is why you should have emailed him those questions.... so you had the answers about no extra charges in writing. I had my dealer GM sign the order sheet and write "MSRP + DOC = (insert OTD Price".
I had a signed doc stating the vehicle would be sold at MSRP + TTL. They disregarded this doc entirely. I cover this in the video.
@@FocusedGarage the same thing was happening to Bronco owners in 2021 adn 2022 and Ford's CEO Jim Farley said that Ford Corp could not help, UNLESS the buyer had a signed sales order. No other signed doc would suffice.
@@justinwilliams2144 insane we have to jump through hoops just to hold the dealer on being honest.
Thanks for sharing. Looks like Ford could have a customer here but due to their dealers, they do not!
Happy to hear it worked out!
Your story finished me off.
I had decided not to mess around with ordering a Maverick and was considering giving up on ford all together.
Ford has good trucks but the dealers have killer it.
Thanks for the flash drive heads up, had not heard of that before.
No one should have to suffer an experience like this.
This is why I document everything and I record everyone I come in contact with at the dealer.
Sad that this is so common.
I think a few dealerships take and do these orders, knowing that when it arrives, they will try to steal it out from under you in a way, so they can sell it for more profit and say the order ended up not being taken in the end. They attack you with BS.
Insane what they expect people to go through.
This is why I'll never feel sorry when a major car dealership goes under
Zero sympathy when a place does "business" like this.
@@FocusedGarage exactly
You should name and shame this dealer. These people need to be held accountable.
If you really want to make sure people don't shop at this dealer, then you need to divulge the dealer name.
I am hesitant to share the name due to possible legalities of name defamation etc.
Can you say it is not Gerald Ford in North Aurora. That is where my maverick is going to be delivered to.
It was not them.
@@FocusedGarage don't name the dealer, Name the town.
Guy worried about being sued. Probably just wants to move on
More of this bad behaviour done at all dealerships on a regular basis. I wish more media coverage on this bad practice was done.
Good for you in sticking to your original plan & sharing your experience.
I agree djscandela. It's always a huge letdown when the media does a disservice to the rest of us like that. That's part of the reason I watch youtube instead of TV.
They finance cars for 96 months? WOW! No, I want to know what this thing COSTS! Not a payment. Great video!
14:46 Yes! Please tell your viewers! Noone should have to go through what you did and we do every day. There are only two Ford dealers in Michigan that will sell a Maverick without an extra markup.
Unfortunate that Ford makes this so hard.
This is exactly that I am afraid of. My order is in production now.
STOP The ORDER ‼️ I get Anxiety just thinking of driving a EV 🤡. I’d rather pay for gas than electricity.
@@zoobrizz why? I am not buying EV. Maverick is a hybrid
Call Ford Corp to get involved.
Best of luck to you.
Run, don't walk away from that order, run!! That mavrick will also come with ford lovely revolving repair bill.
We Love you Brother for all the hard work to defeat these thieves and SPREADING this so all of us out here know not to go to this dealership and to know how to handle future endeavors.
Thank you Brother, God Bless you and all those you Love.
Thanks for checking out the video! I want to give others a fighting chance when dealing with scumbags like this dealer.
These dealers are insane with what they think they can get away with.
Man, I hope you make it known far and wide what they did to you. Good luck!
he wont, he's chicken.
So far I've got reviews posted on many places!
I wish EACH AND EVERY customer would fight back like this man. I don't buy from dealerships often but I have had to walk out of more than I purchased from. I don't mind leaving empty handed but I cannot forgive myself if I allow someone to rip me off.
What sucks about this is that, like you said, they freaking have all the leverage.
No they don’t you have the money and don’t have to buy.
@@FocusedGarage who cares, it's a frickin car you probably won't even like in another year.
I’m on my second Maverick purchased form the same dealer in British Columbia. I have nothing but great comments about the purchase, both times. I can’t speak about other dealers but Family Ford was exemplary.
"Don't try to rip me off! Rip off other people!" That's a pretty crappy attitude...
That reminds me of the line in a Guns & Roses song, "you can have anything you want but you better not take it from me."
You should have mentioned an FTC complaint and investigation. This will make them take notice.
Good point.
At this time, I'm still not ready to hop on the EV bandwagon.
Will NEVER hop on the EV bandwagon.
Then you paid MSRP. I won't pay MSRP.
wait till you have to go to Tesla repair shop a nightmare.
No way! Wait till you have to replace the battery in a few years💰💰💰💰 Also CA is saying don’t plug in you EV. Lol
Run as fast as you can, AWAY from Ford dealerships.
GNX
You should go visit Scotty Kilmer and have him put your story on his channel with 5 million subscribers. Do it man .
I agree.
I can visualize the intensity of arm flailing now...

Maybe I'll bring it his way to see what he says. Thanks!
Sounds like outright fraud to me. Name the dealership or don't bother to complain!
You're much more patient than I am. I would have walked out within the first 15 minutes. There's plenty of vehicles for sale.
I never bought a brand new vehicle, and probably never will, but in the slim chance I do, I'll remember this stuff.
If I pull the lever, I'll remember this when it comes time...and if you don't mind, I might reach out to you for some guidance.
i love dealership stories. They never get old, nor do the dealerships ever change.
