    I really despise what the term "gaming" has become associated with. It used to be that when you bought a gaming product, you bought something actually designed to be useful for gaming. Gaming mice for example typically have higher DPI or more buttons. Gaming displays have high refresh rates and things like onscreen crosshairs. But then the decline started with gaming headsets, which featured pretty colors; gaming PCs, which featured pretty colors; and of course gaming chairs, which featured pretty colors AND generally worse comfort features.

    • @lazydog5065
      @lazydog5065 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Gaming mice have evolved back from being edgy and geometric to becoming as ergonomic and efficient as possible; maybe because of the recent rise of FPS games and the decline of the MOBA genre. Anything else with the "gaming" tag these days is a joke.

      " gaming PCs, which featured pretty colors"
      I disagree with this point
      gaming in computing is the main reason why graphic cards improved to what they are today so gaming PC is indeed a right term
      indeed a PC with not that many numbers cores, mid num of ram, and heavy focus is a gaming PC
      an ML Eng one will focus more on RAM
      a Streaming one will focus more on more ram and more importantly more CPU cores
      a dev one will focus more dependable on what you are developing for example more CPU cores (Game/mobile Dev)
      a cyber sec one also depends on where you are in the field might focus more on CPU,Ram and doesn't really care much if at all for the graphic card (as if cracking is needed a dedicated cracking machine will be built or now we rely more in the cloud)
      so yeah a Gaming PC fit perfectly

    Ergonomics is an interesting thing because depending on the size of the person the needs are very different. For example, so many people say "avoid gaming chairs" and to get an ergonomic office chair so I did. I have been using an ErgoChair from Autonomous for years and while its a good chair. I recently decided to ignore all comments about anti-gaming chairs because of one thing, I'm rather tall. I am between 6'4" - 6'5" and there is no office chair that I could find designed to fit me. On the other hand, the Secret Labs Titan XL is made for people of taller stature so I decided to give it a shot. I havent had it long enough to review it but so far I do have to say that I like the fact that my head is actually supported by the headrest unlike every office chair I have ever sat in.

      @@michael_tunnell That's kind of wild, the Secretlabs Titan XL 2022 is supposed to be tall enough for people up to 6'7". I'm only around 6'1" so I got the Titan XL 2022 and it's working really well for me. The headrest is a big thing for me too, so many ergo office chair headrests also didn't work for me. The new lumbar support I've found comparable to how comfortable the lumbar support on my old used Aeron was until it broke (unfortunately no warranty on a used chair for HM). Haven't had it long enough for myself to speak on the durability of the chair -- I'm a big dude and I work from home so it's hard to find chairs that don't just fall apart on me because of my size + length of daily use. We'll see on that front. I will say that ergo office chairs 100% tend to be built better than 99% of gaming chairs out there though. Hopefully Secretlabs is different for me because I really like the way this thing looks in my space too lol.

    Can't belive I'm actually commenting on something.... Anyhow, I do care more about posture and health and gaming on my old Walmart office chair was killing my back. And sometimes after work come home and game and fall asleep in it. Yeah that was painful. Now I spent a bit shopping for a chair and I can't bring myself to spend hundreds on a chair like this. Now those prices he stated about all of them being under 400 is true. What he failed to mention was him comaoirimg a racer that you can get anywhere from 80 to 110 dollor, comparing that to an office chair costing 300 plus dollor. That's a big difference for someone like me who wouldn't want to spend that much. Now in the end I did buy a racing style chair, not the gt racer or whatever it's called. And I spent a little over 200 and that, for me, is insane lol. But I had to. But I went with the racing style chair cause it was the only one in my price range that offered the lumbar support, the custom leather, the adjustable arm rests, tilt, rocking and all that. In that same price range I found nothing office chair style that offered all of that and seemed of good quality. So I'm calling bullshit on the whole price to features thing where office chairs are better and offer more in way of function. Now I can't speak on durability as far as the chair I purchased goes, but it Seems sturdy and it's very comfortable. I wanted an office style chair, these racing chairs are just cliche and idk, everyone has one and I don't like being part of a mass group lol (and I actually do mostly Sim racing and still wanted an office chair) . But for the money it was the better option from what I found. Keep in mind I'm also including quality of build in this too. So yeah I found office chairs that can do what my racer does but they were cheap and just not seemingly well made. And reviews, their about useless cause everyone either says they're garbage or amazing. Idk. But this video seemed a bit misleading. Price points were exaggerated when comparing 2 chairs to each other. That secret lab, THAT chair is expensive and that was a fair comparison. But comparing the gt racer, those chairs are as base and cheap as they come. And compare that to a 350 dollor office chair? Get out of here. That's not even the same leuge acting like the racer has less features and made without function. No shit, cause it's a cheap chair. Lol.

    Coming from a guy who is 180cm, 80kg, and has minor scoliosis, the SecretLab Titan XL is really really good. It's big, doesn't constrict movement, has fantastic posture, adjustable lumbar support, adjustable overall chair tilt, very stable, very rigid, and durable.
    If you want to buy a quality chair that costs around USD 400-500, get a quality gaming chair like SecretLab. They are definitely no Herman Millers, but the quality and durability are almost always better than an office chair at the same price range.
    If you have a lot of money to burn, get a top end office chair, no gaming chair thus far can compete with top of the line office chairs like Herman Miller.

    One thing to make sure to check is the reviews for a product. Specifically the negative ones. They can be your first sign that a chair is actually really bad and you should be wary if there aren't many reviews in the first place (or simply all positive ones since 5 star reviews are practically worthless these days). Also, be wary of shady business practices. If you see someone mention those sorts of horror stories with the company, it's probably a good idea to stay away.
    Speaking of horror stories, my last chair was actually an office chair from Vinsetto that seemed pretty good at first, but wound up being utter shit. One of the armrests wouldn't tighten properly. The cushioning was meh at best. The chair started randomly sinking after a few months. Eventually, it completely crapped out and wouldn't raise up at all. It even left these obnoxious black plastic shavings on my floor. And when I left a review? The shitty company went "nah, not our product" and deleted it. Why the hell does Amazon even allow that?! Incidentally, when I took a picture of it in the trash to prove that it was in fact their terrible product, the review still didn't stay around. Stay away from this company and their products. Stay FAR away.

      I appreciate your mention of reviews. Overseas review factories are actually a thing now, and they'll go as far as purchasing products to appear as a verified purchaser, then the review contractors return the items to the manufacturer for reimbursement. Their loss for a flipping transaction is just another marketing expense. Sometimes they're easy to spot - brief, generic accolades that could be for any product with little to no detail, and often in absolute crap English. Then, some genuine reviewers who've taken the time to conscientiously craft a detailed 5 star review have been plagiarized. Their review is copied and reposted under a new name for a competing product. If you look closely at the features detailed by the original author's review, then look at the features of the product supposedly being reviewed, these features may not even match. The reviewer might actually say how much they appreciate that their new tool doesn't use an allen wrench that they'll have to carry and keep track of, but the picture of the tool shows an allen wrench and says right in the product description that the allen wrench is included! And the more a bona fide review is marked "Helpful" by other shoppers, the more likely it is to be plagiarized, either word for word or with rearrangement. As I became aware of this, I paid closer attention to those negative 1 & 2 star reviews, except I next discovered that wholesale bashing of competing products is another part of the service offered by the review factories. They may even go on to say they returned a product, and of course they're thrilled with a replacement sold by the manufacturer who has contracted them for fake reviews. Name any box store or online vendor that sells Chinese products where 'Reviews' are part of the shopping experience, and you'll need the best of your Spidey Senses to discern authenticity. I'm leaning back toward local retail. Whether it's a chair I can actually sit in and explore, or a pair of gloves I can pull on, my record of satisfaction is substantially better with hands on shopping.

    A SIGNIFICANT flaw I notice with most modern office chairs is that the upper-back of the chair leans away from the user too far, so the user has to recline in order to be sitting against the full back of the chair (even if the back is fully tilted forward), but if the user is trying to sit upright, the upper-back of the chair is too far away from the user's back, meaning that their upper body, particularly the shoulders, are unsupported.
    In addition, with any chair using this design that has a headrest, the headrest is too far from the head, due to being mounted on the tilted part of the chair. When it comes to lumbar-support, the adjustable lumbar support mechanism is sometimes mounted on plastic, which bends away from the user when pressure is applied by sitting in it.
    With all this in mind, I cannot imagine that this can be healthy long-term.
    I have not used gaming chairs, but based on the examples in this video that they at least try to account for head and shoulder support by making the chair large enough for that. Also, they seem to rely on dense (but not solid) material instead of mesh and plastic, which probably reduces pliability and provides more support.

    i actually prefer gaming chairs over office chairs for confort, mainly because of my height. I am 187cm tall (6foot 2) and i sit behind a computer 6+ hours a day, sometimes even 10 or 12. but there are very few chairs available for someone like me that are specific to my height and not wayyyy too expensive, especially when you need a headrest like me to take some rest in between those long hours of work. most normal office chairs don't have nearly enough lumbar support for me because they are all to low (most of the lumbar supports are at about the top of my hips, nowhere close to where i actually need it) so that strap mechanism from gaming chairs allows me to take any hight I want. the only office chairs that are good for tall people like me are specialty stuff that is really expensive or not available near me, we had one good chair from IKEA but it was the same price as a gaming chair, non-moveble armrests, and lumbar support so shallow that we would have to stuff something behind my back to get any support. i will admit that racing style seat style is a little to narrow for my shoulders but i don't mind that too much. but i got my "gaming" chair for about 150euro/180usd and any good office chair for people like me would at least cost 2 times the price, probably 3 times. the only thing i had to do was move the headrest pillow up all the way to actually support my head (plus my chair got a leg rest so thats nice when you are watching a video or movie, especially when you put your chair flat to get a good stretch).

    I’ve got a Humanscale Freedom and a Sparco chair. There are so many gaming chairs trying to look like race car seats. Sparco make race car seats and sell a pedestal that bolts to them so they can be used as a chair. There’s a big difference between something that looks like a car seat and an actual car seat.

  • @JennyDarukat
    @JennyDarukat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +54

    I think something a lot of people overlook also is that a car seat is supposed to support you as you're driving and accelerating, thus giving you a lot more contact with the cushion vs slouching forward while using the computer. They're completely different applications with different sets of ergonomic requirements. One of the reasons I want something like an Aeron so badly is the forward tilt support, it really follows and supports you even if you're not actively leaning into it, and to me that's invaluable - actual game changer in my view on chairs and ergonomics after trying some Herman Millers in store.

      What do you mean "forward tilt support" i have an AKRacing Onyx Deluxe Leather Black and I have the opportunity to send it back by the end of the month, it would be a major task to box it back up but it CAN be done, if and only if this "Forward Tilt Support" is a game changer. Are you saying that it would give me a more upright and forward leaning i might need to do gaming on my computer? I like my chair, it's VERY BIG and comfy and is awesome looking albeit all black but the leather front stitching is next level. I guess it would be nice to have some addition levers and mechanisms,,, it has adjustable armrests and and a couple of chair adjustments but as you know, that's where gaming chair adjustments stop and start...not a ton. thanks so much in advance!!!!

      @JennyDarukat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@harpoon_bakery162 Have a look at the fully kitted-out Aeron and Mirra 2, they have an additional option to have the seat follow you forward by a few degrees with the seat and backrest and it's a game changer for me as someone who sits upright a lot and has shorter than average legs (so, not getting optimal foot-to-floor contact on many chairs).

    • @harpoon_bakery162
      @harpoon_bakery162 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JennyDarukat Ok, so I checked out my AKRacing Onyx Deluxe Leather as far as tilt-forward, it does tilt forward certainly enough as it goes completely forward but I know that not exactly what you are talking about. This additional option that has the few degrees of "follow you forward" sounds as cool as an arctic wind. I do have long legs however 6'3" athletic frame, However, I'm still intrigued by these models you speak of. Also, I just stumbled upon a chair called Noble Chairs EPIC , so I'm interested to know if you've heard of that? I still have about a week or two to un-assmeble my chair, box it up (won't be easy) and send it back to Best Buy per their policy (for a full refund and full shipping back to them (although I could run it over to them and save them shipping. So now that Noble Chairs entered into the mix in addition to the SecretLabs Titan Comfort Weave / PU Leather / Napa Leather options. WOW, now even more options into the mix. I really appreciate you bringing these gems into the mix. I just spent 749.00 US dollars on the AKRacing Onxy Deluxe Leather Black and am not even sure if it has COLD- PRESSED Foam, it might not (Noble Chairls made it sound like a game changer and that these days, you MUST have the COLD-PRESSED Foam so that it holds up over time and will not deform and cause problems over time. SO there's that too. Gosh, this is overwhelming. ANd I noticed that Noble Chairs has a white these with MANY different chairs and I'm going with a Lian Li O11 Dynamic EVO Snow White Build and my main monitor is a 34" Alienware Ultra-Wide Curved , So I have a few items that are white, but without haveing white laminate wood flooring installed yet, I might hold off on the fully white theme because it gets expensive to get everything to white including desk and gaming chair. I dont know if this is viable to you but the 2020 Secret Labs chairs do have forward tilt support. You can lock it in a leaning forward position for people who prefer that style to work, this is one of the reasons I recently bought one of those.

    • @JennyDarukat
      @JennyDarukat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@michael_tunnell Is it a forward lock or a forward tilt follow? I think a lock wouldn't do very well for me since I vary how I sit a lot - it's the following combined with the way the mesh accommodates the different parts of your back on the Aeron that really makes it so great imo, especially on a tighter tension setting. It's a little like an orthopedic brace without the harshness, if that makes any sense.

    I've been sitting on a 200 dollar Ficmax gaming chair for 3 years and have no complaints. However I just had a wheel break out of the base, so decided to upgrade. Bought the Secretlab Titan EVO 2022 and it should be here Thursday. I recently started a job that has me working from home 2-3 days a week so I am looking forward to this upgrade. I just pray it was worth the 550 bucks.
    Overall though if the wheel didn't bust on my Ficmax and the armrests weren't torn up, I would've never even considered buying a new chair. This thing has been amazingly comfortable and surprisingly durable. I did have to replace the lift on it about a year ago, but I also have abused it pretty hard over the years. It is just black, no bling, stitching or anything extraordinary. And it has ALL the features he mentions when talking about standard office chairs. Absolutely anything is adjustable on it and it is by far the best chair I ever worked on. We had 800 Euros chairs in our office and they sucked so hard, I still dont know where that price came from.

    It's not as black and white as you make it seem. Having purchased office chairs for both my home and business for about 22 years now, I can categorically say that there are equally as many poorly designed and low quality office chairs to be found in that so-called mid price segment i.e 400 usd or so. No matter what you choose, it's a question about looking around and finding something that works and is built well.
    The chair in my office is a 4000 usd "24 hour" style chair. Will a gaming chair be like that? No, but the 600 usd gaming chair I just got, is by comparison a really good chair for what I paid.

    I respect your opinion, however i think gaming chair has a better value for money than an office chair, maybe it's just in my place however i found gaming chair with more features ( i have been looking for a cheap office chair with rich armrest adjustment and a headrest with no luck) as cheaper than office chair with the similar features, therefore i think a good office chair is very comfortable however significantly more expensive vs features compared with gaming chair, I lived in Medan, Indonesia, do you guys feel the same in your countries?

      Just save up and buy a ergonomic chair. Mesh is the future and the gaming chair community has literally no innovation to realise they need to shift. Most of them are just rebranded from the same suppliers (no wonder they're cheaper). Get yourself a good investment and your back and posture will thank you for it

    I use a Honda Civic type R drivers seat on my office wheel base, the most robust, comfortable gaming chair I’ve ever owned……drivers seat cost from the breakers….£60.00 roughly $80…..far better built and way more comfortable than any gaming chair…..way cheaper too…

    I literally went to try chairs yesterday and gaming chair won, and it was all based on comfort and I wasn't even looking for a gaming chair it was just there. I was honestly looking for a mesh ergonomic office chair. But the tilt and the head support alone on the gaming chair was incomparable with the office chair.

    • @MalphasMikaelson
      @MalphasMikaelson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I've never tried an office chair and maybe it's truly the way to go for actual support but I don't see how those thin back supports are going to feel as comfortable as the thick but soft back sides of a gaming chair.

    • @karolcat
      @karolcat 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the gaming chairs here also look way more comfortable.. I want to have neck support so I will probably buy a gaming chair too for my home office... can’t stand my back cracking every time I move lol 😭

    • @emmao6578
      @emmao6578 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MalphasMikaelson The thin backs are often mesh which flexes/moulds to each persons back and in my experience are generally more comfortable than padded chairs. I think of it like lying in a hammock vs lying on cushions on top of a hard surface.
      The other benefit for me is that mesh/fabric chairs don't make me sweaty as hell in the summer weather like the nasty faux leather of gaming chairs, maybe not an issue if you have aircon but it's still horrible to sit on faux leather and have any exposed skin stick to it 😬

    Any recommendations for chairs? I wanna get a office chair but am considering a gaming one because I want my head and upper back to be supported. Any office chair with a headrest has been super expensive.

      @Bobby Jones: Your body is supporting your head, if you are sitting properly. There is no reason whatsoever to have a "headrest"... just buy a pillow and go to your bed/couch if you need to rest lmao.

      @@Historia.Magistra.Vitae. I disagree, a headrest is nice when you are leaning back and just chilling. It's the only complaint I have with my Mirra 2. If it had a headrest it would be a perfect chair imo.

      @@RE4PER : Well, we have recliners and couches that are designed for leaning and chilling... or a bed even. Doing that in a computer chair strains your lower back and is not good for your posture in the long run.

    My dream office chair is one with a memory foam seat, fully reclining back, and plush, soft arm rests and head rests. I basically want to work and play on a chair shaped bed. Sadly it does not exist.

    I just got this video as suggestion after buying a new ergonomic Mesh office chair after using a gaming chair for 6 months.
    I actually just came from throwing the gaming chair to the trash on my local community and can’t be happier with my new mesh chair. Best ergonomics I’ve felt in a long time and I now feel far more engaged into spending proper time in front of my pc while I work from home.
    I’ll definitely never buy a gaming chair again.

    Im a big fan of office chairs, they are sturdier and look better (for me) aesthetically, i mean it looks much simpler and doesnt hurt the eyes, well i never tries a gaming chair either so i dont know if its more "comfortable" since i started with a.... mono-block chair.. yeah, i never really tought about spending money for a chair but after buying one, i loved it, its so much comfortable than sitting on a solid hard chair 😂
