I've tried both. I prefer the fern with leather back, leather head rest, and fabric seat cushion.
The Embody backrest is more narrow so it doesn't feel that great for ppl with wider backs.
The embody lack of arm adjust was also another issue. I have a desk with a keyboard tray and the fern arm adjustment makes day-to-day work a lot easier on my wrist.
The Fern leather backrest option doesnt feel as flexible as the fabric/mesh option.
Fern warranty is pretty amazing. At least for my area, they will send someone out to your house and replace/repair the chair free of charge.

6'5 been trying the fern for almost 30 days now.
Back is really tall snd comfortable, however the rest of rhe chair falls short. Non locking arm rests make for a really flimsy and constant moving experience. The adjustable lunbar support is ok? Kind of doesnt hit the right areas for me personally. Seat paj is far too small for me to be properly adjusted.
Hopefully this helps another tall person decide :D

I've had the Herman Miller Embody for 2 years and 1 month, purchasing it soon after the pandemic started. At the time, I figured if I'm working 40+ hours per week at home, I should invest in a product that's better for my back. I actually found this Ahnestly channel and purchased the Embody based on the recommendations, so thanks, Mr. Ahn!
It's the best ~US$1,500 product investment I've made, with my mattress being a close second. The only negative really is that it does squeak a bit if I move, as Mr. Ahn shows in this video, but it isn't a big deal.
I guess the only con is that I'm now back to working in the office part of the week, and well, I can really tell that chair really sucks.

  • @MKequilibrium
    @MKequilibrium 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

I've got fern and it's silent when you upgrade the noisy wobbling hand rests. Take them out from the chair base sleeves (you need to push from the bottom) and then insert a small plastic (1,5-2mm thick) in between the sleeves and the arm rest inserts to fill the gap. You can also use a duck tape to tighten the inserts because they are from 2 parts so you could take the arm rests out but since they are not tight the whole arm rests are wobbly and noisy. When you duck tape the two parts together the arms rests are then sturdy and make no noise.
If you have lumbar and it starts to make squeaking noises you need to take the fabric down then the front mesh then the lumbar pillow and then you put some vaseline on the metal moving parts of the lumbar. Then you put everything back together and it's like new.

May sound weird, but I love slouching on my Embody. Whenever I'm chilling or doing something that doesn't require me to be upright, I just slouch and it's super comfy. Also, being upright 24/7 is pretty unhealthy despite "ergonomics." It's important to switch up position a bit every now and then and stretch the body.
The only downside was the pixels in the back digging into my lumbar - as you mention in the video a tip for that and all. Nothing I did resolved that issue, even when sitting exactly how it wanted me to, it still didn't feel right until I grabbed some zip-ties and just pushed the pixels back enough to be perfect for my lumber and back. It's probably the most comfortable lumbar "support" I've ever used now. Love this chair

I really have a bad time on my Embody. Have it since 1 year and cannot say I'm confortable on it. I have pain on my coccyx after a couple of hours sitting on it, and my back also hurts in a specific way: If you draw a vertical line on the middle of the back rest, the zone of this line is very hard on the bottom half part, no "cushion feel " and it exactly on this zone that my spine bones are. Result is that I have a lot of pain on my spine and some time I have to move forward to detach my back from the seat.

I bought both to try them, and then keep one. There are no dealers near me that have both. I should say the HM customer service is much more prompt but the delivery service they use (in EU) is terrible. Haworth doesn’t respond to any of my messages but I did get the chair the next day.
The embody is a perfect chair for perfect people that have a perfect seating position. If you are flawed like me and don’t always sit perfectly, the Embody can be hell due to the fixed lumbar in the lower back area. I considered putting tie wraps on it just to get the lumbar to move back a few mms, that would already be sufficient for me. But why should I do this on a chair that costs 1400 euro?
I kept the fern and never looked back…. Although I do wish that Haworth would sell the Digital Knit to non U.S. markets. Sucks!

the things I like most is the comfort, breathability, the higher back rest, sliding the seat forward makes it even more breathable because of that gap, the adjustability of that 4D arm rest and the forward tilt is more useful than I expected

I got the Fern chair with the additional lumbar support and the metal frame, black mesh version. I must say that nobody talks about the material used for the seat. Its a rough textured material. Its great because if you sit in it properly your butt is not going to move towards the front of the seat. So you don't lose the ergonomic position. I weight 90kg (almost 200lbs).
But it can be a downside for some people. Some people prefer softer exterior material.
I'm coming from a Jysk gaming chair and I ain't going back to that.
One more thing that worked for me, was the keep the seat all the way back. Not extended. I've seen that if I extend the seat it makes me slide in the chair so I was rounding my lumbar. Again, not great for ergonomics. ( I think its fine to do it once in a while but most of the times you want to keep the correct posture) .
Great chair, really like it. ( And great video! )

Your previous videos on the Embody helped me decide on one. I bought the gaming one from the sale a bit back and absolutely love it.
The cushion is a bit difficult to describe and I don't think receives enough discussion. It is a suspension cushion and has a bit of bounce that a purely foam cushion does not have. This was a surprise to me and how comfy it is.
The back is also very supportive and gets most of the attention, rightfully so, in the reviews. It is a bit noisy but obtrusive and is a good trade off for the comfort.
I'm an attorney and after a long day, I can put my feet up, move my butt forward and the flex point mid way up (also something not really discussed) cradles my shoulders perfectly and allows my head to rest at the top of the seat back. Super comfy in that condition also. I'm falling asleep just thinking about it, it's so relaxing.
Just for reference: 5'10", 205#, athletic build, and bad back (arthritis and bulging lumbar in same area and nerve pain in the muscle adjacent).

Arthritis can be related to autoimmune issues or wear due to improper form while exercising over extended periods of time or very underdeveloped muscles for the load etc. Bulging disk is when the capsule that houses the cartilladge between vertebrae breaks down or gets disrupted in a way that leads to it slipping.

You are the perfect fit for all these chairs. I personally found the leap v2 to be the worst for my lower back pain. The gesture felt like it didn’t fit as well (some guys shorter than me said it worked for them…just not as good for me). I am a embody #1 fan and fern very close #2. The tilt forward isn’t great in the Fern, but you still get the option!

I'm a pretty slim guy, about 5'8-5'9. Im trying to get rid of my current chair because after a while, when I get up my ass hurts. Was looking at the Harman Miller originally but the price is my only hesitation. I get a business discount through work but it doesnt apply to the gaming emobdy since it's already discounted to the discount price. The Fern on the other hand, I can get for a steal. Comfortability wise, is there a huge different between the two? Will my ass still hurt? 😭

    • @Ahnestly
      @Ahnestly  ปีที่แล้ว

Hm so both chairs have been known to have firmer seats. However, I find the Fern to have the firmer seat of the 2 - the embody's seat is just unique bc it provides "softness" through flex rather than foam cushion like the Fern. If you're able, why not pick up both and then return the one you don't like? I think the return policy should still be in tact even though you go through your company! And if you decide to get the gaming embody, please consider using my links! Helps the channel a LOT!

I tried an Embody at the store today, it had forward tilt, is this a new option they added? I'm trying to buy a used one so not sure if the old ones won't have it. The salesperson said the regular embody's all have the thicker foam from the gaming chair version now too, but I can't seem to find any info about an official "version" update.

One thing to keep in mind with the embody. If you are a bigger person. like 6-2 and above and a bit larger in size. you will feel the edges of the embody on the top of the back rest. i like the chair very much, but this was a dealbreaker for me.

BTOD also did another review of the Fern, but this time without the headrest, lumbar support and with the digital knit configuration.
According to them, it's their top chair recommendation now and it's managed to dethrone the Leap v2.
I really wanted to try the Fern in the UK, but they don't have any variety and they don't seem to care about it.

I had the same problem with the Steelcage chairs. I can get them here, but the warranty goes from 12y in the US to 5 in the UK, which is disgraceful when you're spending over a grand on an office chair.

Hmmm... the Embody's 'cushion on a rubber band' (as you described it) sounds interesting. Is it actually comfortable for all day sitting, 5-7 days/week? I used to love my old Aeron for a while, but then I found that the mesh seat was too uncomfortable for long sits due to lack of cushioning. Awesome for the booty juice factor, though, of course! 😆
