Thank you for this video, realize it is a year later. Specifically thank you for the comment at around 7:25. I was lucky enough to get a 3060 from Micro Center this week, and it was a "lower end" model. Been doubting myself for not paying the upcharge for the STRIX or TUF that was available. This definitely eased my mind.
Back to building my own for the first time in over two decades, so brand new to the community.
I've given up on this generation's current GPUs. Couldn't buy them when I had the money, Now they're ridiculously overcharging for them. I'm good. I'll just wait until no one cares about them and they selling at a discount or wait for the next generation GPUs.

If the crypto currency bubble doesn't pop. Then the next generation is going to be the same as this generation. Also people have proven that they would pay anything for a gpu. So MSRP itself is going to go up. Second hand market is also not going to go lower price wise

Similar to what they've done with the 3060, I like that on many of the 3070s, many of the AIBs are using the same cooler that they use on their equivalent model 3090. Makes for a very cool and quiet running card with some good overclocking potential.

I'd love to see a comparison of overclocking performance when using a stock cooler vs an aftermarket cooler such as the Raijintek Morpheus or Arctic Accelero.

Note that overclocking the RAM on 30 series doesn't always mean higher performance. It actually is ECC on the 30 series so at some point when it becomes really broken you start losing performance. You have to actively monitor if your scores go up or down when bringing the speed up.
what values do you use?
@@arian4562 you kinda just have to keep checking the scores. Because it's ECC errors won't cause the GPU to crash, but as they become more common your overall score or average frame rate will drop. This is because ECC is mainly ment to stop crashing, each error takes time to correct so the more you get the longer the code takes to move on. So there's a sweet spot where your score will keep going up but after that your score will slowly tick back down. So let's say you get a card with a default memory speed of 18000hz. The sweet point may be around 19500-20500hz. Beyond that point your scores and frame rates will slowly get worse as more errors happen.

Yep, my son has a Auros 3060 3 fan(got it cheap $220) overclocking the memory did nothing. My score action went down a couple points.

My grandfather had an HBO subscription and programmable timer VCR... He would program it to auto record new movies when they aired and we'd watch them together, fast forwarding commercials. If he wanted to keep the movie, he would re-record them to cutout the commercials. I guess it took some effort in retrospect, but even just 30 years ago, times were much simpler....

i got the gaming OC gigabyte 3060 and am quite happy with it. while thought about bumping it up a bit more. the difference between the OC and none OC cards is quite a difference
Idk if it's the same with these new GPUs but my GTX 1070 actually performs better than stock/overclocked with an aggressive undervolt, a mild core overclock, and a fairly aggressive memory overclock. It was a bit tricky to get it stable but because it runs so much cooler it actually maintains a higher clock with the undervolt than it would with the overclock. I know this video's really old at this point but you should do some undervolting stuff. It's honestly an absolutely amazing thing that no tech TH-camrs ever mention.

I overclocked my RTX 3060 Phoenix V2 at +200 core / +500 memory / 110% Power. Seems stable for now, temp stays at 71° during heavy load. I tested it using Valley, 3D mark, RDR2 Ultra, and Metro Exodus Extreme benchmark settings, no crashes so far.
I mean the good thing about the plain Jane 3060 is that with such a low power draw, ramping up the fans isn't risking destabilizing the card by fighting over available power. And the last-gen GDDR isn't going to hide failures with error correcting like cutting-edge cards will. So it should make for a much more straight forward process of overclocking. The bad thing about the plain Jane 3060 overclock is that it still doesn't even touch 3060 TI performance when OCed. LOL

I recently checked gpu prices on webshops here, and one store actually has the EVGA 3060 ti reasonably priced compared to their own site, at €478,51 excl. 21% VAT vs €429 on EVGA-EU.
Unlike the other 'offerings' which casually range between the €700 and 800 (incl VAT), because people are currently apparently throwing their wallets so hard at their screens they need new monitors as well as gpu's.
It sure is starting to look like I'll be upgrading my trusty EVGA GTX970 with another EVGA card, given the next generation isn't out before I can get my hands on a 3060ti, that is...
@@Alighierian I had a 970 for years, got a solid deal on a used 1080ti late 2019 so I upgraded. Now just recently upgraded to a 3070, wanted a 3080 but impossible to get anywhere near retail.
OC results is what I would expect from overclocking an GPU. Though, these days electronics are already pushed to the max for best performance. So, I guess this is an impressive result, especially on an economy class layout like this one.

This makes me happy. I got my hands on a EVGA RTX 3060 XC(non black) so hopefully I can similar performance. Seeing it within 10 fps of the ti in some games is a big boon since we got so little stock of the ti in Aus.
Must admit - it's nice seeing a "normal" video on a graphics card. Not that it alleviates the problems, if nothing else, just for nostalgia :)

The 30 series overclocks really well. Especially on the memory. I run my 3070 at +550 on the memory and +120 on the gpu. It runs sub 100% for most games I play because it is hitting preset fps limits I run games at 50-55C and they idle in the low 40s. It is bonkers how fast they run.
I agree, I got +1000 on the mem on my 3070 FE and +115 on the core. It's a shame the power limit only goes to 109% on the FE.
Bought a 3060 yesterday and still waiting for it to ship. Glad to see that I'll be able to overclock it the same way I can my 1050 ti.

An axial fan is called so, because the direction of the moved air is parallel to the fans rotation axis. On the contrast a centrifugal fan blows air at right angles in comparison to it's rotation axis.
This is almost a completely new tier of performance from overclocking

It would be super helpful in helping newer ppl work out how much money they actually need to spend
as far as i know, its around 25-30% between each card (from 3060 to 3070, from 70 to 80 and so) ans 5-10% between the regular and ti versions (3070 to 70ti)

@@0Metatron Not quite true when it comes to the 3060 and the 3060 ti. The 3060 ti is more akin to the difference you would see between say a XX60 and XX70 gpu, whereas the 3070 is only a hair above a 3060ti. They are so close in terms of performance that you could almost reach stock 3070 levels of performance by overclocking a 3060 ti.

I got a 2070 RTX (OC Edition in this case) as well back at the end of Aug 2020. I think I paid slightly less than MSRP for it. I had a good sense that it would be a great time for me to upgrade my GPU since GPU markets tend to be volatile. I had planned on upgrading mine sometime that year anyway. I had envisioned that prices could very well go up again on GPU's from autumn 2020 on. I wasn't going save and wait for the new 30-series because I thought that there would be supply problems shortly after release, and prices could get inflated.

In Estonia it's a bit cheaper. 3070 is around 1000€ ($1200) and 3060 is over 800€ ($970). Sucks to be European.

Now you need to do an ITX build in a VCR that has this card dropped in like a VHS tape.
Got this for the secondary machine was able to get for 331 out the door on a barely touched open box. Hopefully it doesn't go back up before general 4000 series availability.
While it doesnt get anywhere near to Ti version I think 12gb will be a great upgrade for my 980ti. Vram matters to me, because I render stuff.
And there'd also the benefit of the new studio drivers, instead of gameready drivers :)

What is Betamax < better format than vhs . Betamax was better than VHS at basically everything. It had higher resolution, the tapes were smaller, they had higher recording capacity, and Betamax even predates VHS by about two years.

Hey J, been watching you for a couple years and thought I contribute on this vid. Was lucky (questionable I know considering the price I paid, but times being what they are...) to purchase a ROG Strix RTX 3060 OC from NE through their Shuffle (for my son; told him I would get him the 3060ti, but yeah...stock issues). Just overclocked the Strix card and got +1200MHz on the memory clock & +210 on the core clock. Used Heaven as the benchmark and got an increase of 8-9 FPS, so about the same as you. Haven't messed with over voltage yet & not sure I will, as I probably won't be able to replace it if I damage it.

You won't damage it. I am also running+1200 +220. Its stable and passes stress test. Temps barely go above 60c. The 3060 is a solid card.

So Jay, I heard that bit about the cooler from the 60ti being slapped on the 60 being a good thing and wanted to ask about the opposite situation on another EVGA card. All the XC cards appear to be using the same cooler, 3090 included. What do you think of the RTX 3090 XC cards? Are they furnaces under that cooler or is it enough to do the job?
You briefly spoke about how unlocking the core voltage percentage works. Just to confirm for these tests performed, did you actually increase the percentage or just kept it at 0%?
I think it would be useful to include benchmarks that showcase the blender performance of the 3060. After all, that 12gb of Vram is speculated to be for content creation and I can't find benchmarks anywhere that show the blender performance or any rendering performance for that matter. While most people can't get these cards, I think it would show whether or not this card has any potential value over the 3060ti at all.
I bought the 12Gb because I load a lot of high-res textures in my Skyrim SE game. No content creation involved!
@@majorgear1021 how do you fare with it tho? I implemented a bunch of hi res textures and topped it off with NAT III ENB with balanced RT preset, and it's murdering my frames. 55-60 average but once I enter a forest it drops to 45-50 fps. I'm also a 3060 enjoyer
@@juicecan6450 I upgraded to a 4090. The 3060 was ok for 1080p, but not for the 49” UW display I got last summer.
Even a 3080 struggled with that! The RTX 4090 run it like a champ. It was really expensive but I don’t worry about frame rates any more.

I finally got an RTX (at msrp) and it was the Asus version of this. Was able to get +196 on core, +147 on memory. It clocked incredibly well for what it is. Saw very nice jumps too. Overall I'm happy to see such a large jump from my 1060. Still wish I could have gotten a 3060ti or 70 but at this point getting anything is amazing.
How's it now? I just got the rog strix 3060 today but not sure if I'll return it for the xc. The bad reviews of 3060s makes me want to get the xc instead and save 100 bucks.
@@JGAbstract I have the asus rtx ko oc 3060. I like it. It's not ideal (I wanted at least a 3070) but it runs Microsoft flight sim at 1080p ultra 45 to 50 FPS

Like how much can Game Graphics improve over the years. I feel like it'll reached it's peak around 30s-40s. By then, i hope game engines are well optimised so that the 3080 is probably still good for 60 fps at 1080

@@a2zistoolong448 Laughs in 8K gaming, 144hz+, ultra settings + ray tracing msfs2020. Btw, not even a 3090 can run MSFS2020 4k ultra at 60fps. Now talk about 8k... Graphics never had limitations, they are limitless. It's the hardware that can't handle it. Trust me, they can get better. People have always been saying " I don't see how the graphics can get any better"; since the beginning of 3D games.

my 2060 manages to get a +90 on the clock and +1000 on the memory, and it was one of the cheaper modals at least in amazon UK
