    If you check the nvidia forums it's the same thing. A bunch of people stating they never even got to see the cards in their local stores on launch day. It's like they were never really there to begin with...

      @S Q micro center near Cincinnati handed out vouchers to purchase, heard people camped out in parking lot I camped my laptop from 9 till 4 best buy and burned up refresh button. I lost to a 2nd stage to purchase issue the add to cart lit up i clicked it then a very stupid problem occurred "your not done yet item is not in your cart" "due to high volumes we make new batches available on the hour" then it vanished went from coming soon to sold out. Yeah, I'm going to have to disagree with Jay on this one. I have a nearly finished build that I can't complete because I can't get my hands on a newer card and my current system is running a 970 GTX and even trying to find a 2000 series is not an option. So if I can get myself in a lottery with a fighting chance of getting a card, that's better than the 'Coming Soon' button instantly switching to a 'Sold Out' button. I don't think Jay fully understands the struggle we've had the last few months as he announces his own 'lottery' give-away....

      There should be a way to preorder with a human verification system. It can be slow, it can take weeks before release date, but it would be much better to avoid scalpers and overprices for regular people.

I’ve been “gaming” on Intel UHD graphics for 2 years now and finally got fed up and decided to build my first gaming pc... to be met with a shortage of cards. I’m also a broke college kid, so getting the EVGA one for under $400 was perfect. The 1000% increase in performance from Intel UHD is what matters to me, and I’m glad I got this card

    As always, the only reason these cards are so expensive is because there's ALWAYS someone with more money than sense.

    • @NoobBasically
      @NoobBasically 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      There is such as thing as LUXURY items my dude, the market decides the value, someone else is willing to pay more money to secure a purchase.
      Think about it, the reason that there are shortages of things is because the price doesn't equate to the demand, if the price rises with the demand then you can be sure that you can purchase an item despite the low availability IF you can pay the premium. If we then want to be no more scalpers and the price stays MSRP it will literally be a first come first serve (which sucks for people who can't afford the time) and a literal LOTTERY (which ultimately sucks for everyone else). You either have to pay with time, or with luck and STILL your purchase isn't sure, but at the very least if you can pay the premium you can ENSURE your purchase.
      This hate towards how prices SHOULD work is stupid and blinded, it is a LIMITED LUXURY item people, are we back to explaining why diamonds costs a lot more than water?
      From: A person who can't afford the premium price and can buy the card and accepts how it is and just waits for the supply to adjust or for the hype to die down because I can't pay for the premium I will pay for with what I can afford, the time.

    • @JakeTheSuperGuy
      @JakeTheSuperGuy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      @@NoobBasically Dude, no one is claiming this issue is just stores being greedy,etc. People understand the situation but are still frustrated. I don't understand why you're defending paying a premium for an underwhelming card, especially since you don't do it yourself. The concept of paying a 3070 (msrp) prices for a 3060, a successor to one of the most bang-for-your-buck cards (1060), is a little dumb to say the least. And it most definetly sends the message that it's ok to pay a premium. On another note, while categorically, it might be a luxury item, it's most definetly used in a professional application. Lots of content creators, freelance artists, students and the like, who do creative tasks, but don't need or can afford a Quadro or a 3090, rely on mid-range cards. I would argue computer parts are often very much on the edge of necessary/luxurious.
      I mean no harm, just baffeled why you'd hold this view.

    As a retail brick and mortar store owner myself, I can confirm that when I purchase any 30 series cards from approved distributors, they are considerably higher (up to $200 over) than MSRP and therefore I have to charge something higher to make money. What I make has historically been less than 10% and most were under 5% markup just to help cover costs of accepting credit cards as payments. It has been a frustrating 5 months. Fortunately, EVGA has been fairly easy to keep getting in my local store. And before anyone asks, I will not ship these cards. I have been selling them locally and will continue to.

That positions the 3060 as an excellent entry level choice for machine learning developers. The increases of memory on Nvidia cards is definitely appreciated.

      The only reason why the 3060 is so trash, is that Nvidia knew people are hungry to get their hands on w/e card they can find so a shitty card like this can still get great sales.

    The whole shortage and inflating prices of GPUs went by me until i decided i had to completely overhaul / buy a new pc. I used a GTX 750 Ti until this month and searching for a nice GPU was hard. Now i get how people feel and felt trying to get their hands on anything that isnt totally overpriced. I personally was really lucky tho because i had an exam in Cologne, Germany while gamescom was happening and when i was about to get back home, my newsfeed showed me that a big german store here colaborated with Nvidia because of Gamescom and they sold 1000 GPUs, from 3060, 3060 Ti up to 3090 and whatever the most expensive cards are, all sold at retail price. So i got my hands on the 3060 for 349€ , could have bought the Ti for 500 but i refused to do so because of my overall budget.
    Thank god i dont have to think about GPUs for a long time now..

    Performance wise, it'll do the job in most cases but it'll still tank in some cases. One that comes to mind is when I played BO: Cold War zombies and went from 120-160 fps at rounds 1-8 or so, to about 35-55 fps past round 15 (though that was with literally everything set to ultra). That smaller bus and somewhat lower clock speed has a pretty significant impact at times, it would seem.
    Also, mine is paired with a r5 3600 and 16gb ddr4 (300mhz), for anyone curious. Got a prebuilt coz that was in stock and not too too overpriced (though still overpriced imo). Thinking the ram might be giving me slight performance drop on the higher end, but I wouldn't think so much as to be a major factor in the frame rate drop.
    Don't get me wrong, overall I'm quite happy with it but it didn't blow me away quite like I was hoping it would, going from a 1060 to the 3060. Regarding the price points for the cards themselves I agree completely with Jay. It's fucking laughable when a gpu price can range from ~$450 usd to ~$1250 usd. Scarcity or not it's utterly inexcusable imo. Wouldn't recommend on its own, certainly not at present.

      Nvidia won't do anything because of how badly they were caught via Hardware Unboxed (Steve) going public with their email towards him and Nvidia trying to cut him off and control what he says only for Linus and others to go public about it and defend Steve. Nvidia tucked their big boy tail between their legs and kissed Steve's ass BIG TIME right after everyone found out the truth. Not to mention Nvidia was caught selling their own merchandise via Amazon through a subsidiary at a scalpers price and claimed that a shipment of graphic cards went to the company by accident and they sold it anyway when they just tried to hoodwink people altogether and got caught red handed. This was all during the past few months so I highly doubt Nvidia will do anything about Jay being honest and doing his job which is to review and give his opinion on products from ALL companies. If anything, Jay will just buy whatever he wants to review should Nvidia (or whatever manufacturer) not want to give him a review sample and use it as a tax write off.

      I agree. I was a bit taken back when he ridiculed the shuffle system. I spent 2 months of near constant monitoring across multiple websites before finally getting lucky with a 3080, and yes, I consider myself VERY lucky to have found one. The shuffle system at least gives people a much better chance at getting on than crossing your fingers that you can get one in your cart and check out before the site crashes or bots buy them all out.

      He probably wasn't thinking of scalpers. To be fair. It wasn't something at the forethought of purchasing before now. Imo.

      @@dawn-blade Honestly, i relied on someone else to do the legwork for me. Look up Falcodrin on Twitch, he is very good about updates and his discord channel was invaluable in alerting me of drops that I managed to get in.

      @@dawn-blade My method was to watch the Twitch stream and Discord and receive notifications from Falcodrin when drops occurred and jumping on it. Working from home allows me to have the twitch stream open basically during all waking hours and since there's an audible notification of when a drop happens I can get back to my desk within a few seconds and try to snag a card.

    Fantastic video! I agree with everything totally the marketing of this card is shit. As a game developer though there is a reason for having more vram. Even if you can't push higher resolutions, other effects such as volumetric cloud data / signed distance fields and gpu particles can take up massive amounts of vram. 12 gb is still overkill though.

    I was actually stoked to see the high RAM, because I use my GPU for deep learning and more RAM means bigger neural nets. I highly doubt NVIDIA is making them with me in mind, though.

      Yaaas! That's what those tensor cores are for! I just don't know why they didn't do it on something beefier like a 3070, which would allow budget gamers to get a cheap GPU and hobbyists/enthusiasts to get a higher VRAM card.
