    I'm replacing 2 window motors because they went out within a month of each other and I chose not to use the others. I thought the window fell out of the track/holder (happened on my older autos). When I went in to fix it I found a mess of wire coming out of the motor. Asked my brother-in-law about it because he has had several of my make and model and he said they wouldn't have done that had I kept my tracks lubed as this video suggests. Well I never knew it was a thing. So after replacing them I am going to clean lube them just like this video instructs. Thanks Sweet Project Cars!

    My skeptical engineering mind was completely blown away. Just purchased my son a used car and the drivers side window rolled down very slowly. I was thinking window motor but thought I would try your method. Truly unbelievable. DRAMATIC difference and completely amazed! I did find it easier and less messy to soak the cloth first and apply the RainX but other than that I followed your instructions to the letter and again completely amazed. Thank you sir!

    What you said about "use it or lose it" is exactly correct! When I got my old Buick- nobody had hardly used the passenger side window. As soon as I began to- SNAP CRACKLE POP and I was installing a new motor. The nylon gear was dry, and the glass tracks were filthy and sticky. That dry lube is a great idea- no mess on the glass, no petroleum distillates to damage plastics. Excellent! Thank you.

    I hadn't really given a thought about making sure that you exercise your power windows like this - to help keep the motors from going bad. Been there, done that - replacing the motors is NOT a fun time! So I shall add this to my list of things to do on our mini-van. And after driving down to Florida and back and experiencing the "love bugs" I think that I shall invest in a removable screen / bra for the front of the car so I can remove it and clean it. Right now the headlights need a good cleaning - just like you've taught us in the past. Cheers, Mike.

We used a thin cloth over a plastic trim panel remover and stuck that between the rubber,moved it up and down to remove the dirt. Then sprayed inside deep between the rubber using dry silicone with a tube/straw attached, then rolled the window up and down a few times and all the windows are good as new.

    Not trying to be rude any doing the lube might work but you are not getting enough of voltage to the window motors with the vehicle off. You should have the vehicle running. Most likely you will have about 13-14v when running under draw without running you might be 9-10

    • @SweetProjectCars
      @SweetProjectCars  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      thank you very much, but the window did this weather the car was running or not...we talked to the customer about it and we were correct in our assumption, their son always sat in the back on the passenger side of the car so the back drivers side window was not used whatsoever that's why they all worked well but the one we did the video on. thanks my friend for your great comment

    •  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Doesn't matter if the vehicle is running or not. Same voltage go's through that circuit no matter what. Only difference would be if the battery was low and almost dead and you tried to run the windows while the engine was not running.

    • @harryl7946
      @harryl7946 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I could make out it's a product by WD40 but WTF couldn't manage to show it/or say the name of this "special lubricant" which I suspect is a major part of this "how to Video"

    • @toddwessells
      @toddwessells 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      He did. It's wd40 dry lube. I guess if you don't know wd40 products it might be confusing but come on all you have to do is type wd40 dry lubricant into Google and bam there it is. Would have taken you alot less time to do that than it did to post this pointless comment. ☣️

      As long as we are on the subject of power windows... I have an annoying issue that you may have a trick for! When it gets super cold out (Northeast Winters) my window likes to freeze shut. You have to wait for the cabin to warm up on the truck so the window "thaws" out and will go down. It sure would be nice just to hit the switch like summer time and have the window go down! Any suggestions? I am sure I am not the only one with this annoyance, maybe it's video worthy if there is a simple solution?

    • @KBzPTGT
      @KBzPTGT 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This vid should help with that freezing. It acts as a moisture barrier. Also make sure the rubber weather seal surrounding the upper window is well conditioned so as to NOT trap water to freeze.

    WD40s PTFE Dry Lubricant. Guide the straw by running your fingers along the edges of the rubbers inner and outer so that the lube doesnt just go into the deepest bit of the groove but lube the sides too.
    For an even better job remove the door card and access the lower guides and lube those too. You may see down to them through the window aperture using a torch and this will save door card removal.
    Dont use regular grease or WD40 or any old lube. Use the dry PTFE type. An air gun is ideal to blow any tiny bits of grit out the runners too if the glass sounds a bit scratchy.

  • @chrisgraham2904
    @chrisgraham2904 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The window tracks are an important component to keep clean and lubricated, but newer vehicles that have cable operated regulators also have metal slide rails that need to be lubricated and the steel cables that pull the window up and down also need to be lubricated. Rubbing a wax candle on the cables does an excellent job. These steps do require disassembly of the door, but the motor and regulator will outlast the life of the vehicle.

    • @SweetProjectCars
      @SweetProjectCars  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We use this now on all of the cables/tracks tinyurl.com/bdf6a6ky it's a phenomenal lubricant and you are correct, the motor/regulator will outlast the vehicle doing this lube process! Thanks for the view and comment, have a great rest of your week my friend. mad Mike

    Great video! I did something like this several years ago on a teenaged Mazda Miata; they are notorious for windows that get slow and eventually burn out the motors. It has frameless windows so I instead cut a slit in the plastic vapor barrier, reached in and cleaned the tracks and also the front vertical channel with brake cleaner. I then relubed the tracks with lithium grease, and silicone spray on the front vertical channel. I also found the window switch had heavy carbon deposits: cleaning that off also worked a treat.
    Was wondering what is it about the Rain-X that makes it a good cleaner in this case?
