I’m hoping and fairly certain that the more traditional Superhero stories are what hasn’t been released yet, and that he’s just giving us tastes of the different storytelling techniques that we’ll be seeing from this point on.
I really want a Nightwing movie but I also hope in Chapter 2 that it is about magic. I want a Doctor Fate movie, Zatanna, and Etrigan. God I would be so happy if we ever get Etrigan.
I am curious about the "overall" plans for the Authority. Basically, they seem to be planned as super-powered group who have a "one track" mind/goal and will do anything to reach it, essentially Anti-Hero-esque group. Wondering if the plan is to eventually have them face off with Superman to "correct" their mindset similar to how Superman faced off with "The Elite" in DC Animated Movie? Because if you have individuals like the Authority in the same universe as a hopeful Superman, it would mean they would have ideological clashes, and not just differences of opnion.

The majority of my channel is DC related topics. As someone whose been cautious about this reboot, Gunn definitely just eased some nerves. DC and it’s pantheon of characters means to world to me like how it does for a lot of people. This presentation made it clear that it does for Gunn as well. The symbolism associated with DC is inherent to the the purpose of superheroes as a whole. There entire existence is meant to serve as a narrative device to spread messages of hope, growth, optimism, and friendship first and foremost before other typical narrative themes and tropes make their way into these characters stories. CBM in general over the decade have shunned away from these ideals, using them sparingly, but never fully embracing them. With the excuse always being, it won’t work for live action, or, it’s to goofy and unbelievable. Or my favorite one, DC heroes are to much like Gods to make it work. Gunn has me hopeful that finally someone will embrace what makes DC great, and give us a version of the DCU that’s worthwhile and meaningful.

Looking at the movies from the DCAMU, Dick Grayson was introduced in Son of Batman as Nightwing and it played off of Damien and that really worked for me. Also incredibly hyped for a Swamp Thing horror movie

It's not fully rebooted. It's like the New 52. Most things are gone from the previous universe but there are some that will stay. James gunn said this on Twitter
I'm really hoping DC will keep with the personalities of the characters. I mean Superman was always showing the good, the positive in people while Batman showed the dirty underworld and, if one is even planned, Nightwing could fall somewhere in between.
Im definitely getting a big Star Wars mega-narrative vibe from this and I dig it. All the different genres and mediums working together to tell one massive saga rather than a bunch of smaller isolated stories that are only tangentially connected.

I think once you build the league in Chapter 1. You use chapter two to show the street level characters that are inspired by the league. And Static fits that
I have suspicions he's building towards Justice League Dark in some form. He said there are other Chapter 1 titles he can't reveal yet because they give too much away. I think Swamp Things gets us Constantine and we have JL Dark by the end of Chapter 1
They may be planning to have the HBO Max shows air during 2024. EDIT: Also, since they're bringing in Xolo Mariduena, who got to shine as Miguel in Cobra Kai, I think casting Tanner Buchanan as Booster Gold would be a good fit. The two of them had great chemistry on Cobra Kai, where Tanner played Miguel's rival Robbie Keene.
This makes me hopeful. I love DC and Marvel. Having both of them pushing quality content into theaters/streaming just makes the other step its game up. They are at their best when they have the other to compete with at the top of the market.
After the guardians chose Guy Gardner to replace Hal Jordan, Hal Jordan choose John Stewart to replace Guy Gardner and take Hal Jordan's place if anything happens to him. Kyle Rayner ended up taking up Hal Jordan's place while John Stewart protected earth. Apparently, in the animated series, Kyle Rayner was supposed to be fighting Parallax Hal Jordan later on in the show, but the story was scrapped after the comic fans' complaints. With that in mind... I believe it would've been awesome if Hal Jordan Parallax was a result of loosing his BFF Barry Allen rebooting the universe, especially if he was the only person that could remember the crisis event and remember his sacrifice. It would've been a great explanation for why Wally West was the only flash in the JLU series of his own universe. Could you imagine having to deal with asking for help from people that could never understand what you've had to endure?
I'm really loving that this new DCU/DCCU/DCEU/Whatever the f*dge is starting in the middle of the characters' stories instead of being complete origins for everybody. I never really cared for reboots saying that no superheroes ever existed at all until THE EXACT YEAR the movies premiered.
A jaded Supergirl? The Lanterns? Maybe we’ll see Red Lantern Supergirl, the emergence of the spectrums with an overall build towards the Blackest Night/Brightest Day? Sure they could navigate that with some changes……
I'm cautiously optomistic I like the whole Gods and Monsters theme and I'm excited for most of these films, however, it seems like Gunn's playing favorites on what can be kept or not, and as a Dc Comics fan, it reminds me a lot of the New 52 and how they handled continuity and it's possible that this might fall down a similar rabbit hole
The only thing I wished James Gunn changed was for the Green Lantern show to be a movie. Also have Dick Grayson be the Robin of the DCU, but other than that, I'm excited.

the argument for doing a straight comic to screen movie is that there are creatives involved. script writers, directors, actors, cgi artists, it goes on, that also want to feel like they are true to themselves and show some artistry. sometimes that deviates a story. who signs onto a movie generally as a director to be told, this is how the story will be and what it will look like. no deviations. good luck

To play Devil's advocate, the only thing that makes me nervous is the whole "have actors play their roles in different mediums"-thing. It's ambitious and leads to cohesion. I'm just afraid that real life has shown us that you can't predict what actors are going to do or what's going to happen to them. Obviously, the quick fix is to have an understudy in case. Other than that, expecting good things.

This is going to come down to the availability of anything that isn't released in cinema. DC shows and animated movies release late & are often spread over multiple services in the UK.

Well he talks a decent game. And he seems legit excited to make this happen. But a lot of the directions they've chosen to go in are kind of a mixed bag for me. My reaction was kinda like: All star Superman? Awesome! Green lantern? Cool. Damien? Hmm ok. The authority? Uh who are, or wtf is the authority? But like most things, it will come down to execution. The proof will be in the proverbial pudding as they say. Hopefully we'll finally get the DC universe we either need, want or deserve or whatever lol

The Batman I would do with this is that yes it’s Batman and Damien, but he’s got nightwing, batgirl, and Red Robin. But not red hood, the sequel or the third movie would be under the red hood…you could even have nightwing getting attacked at the end of his movie which directly leads into under the red hood

Here’s my problem…Gunn was brought in to give the BIG MAINLINE characters their due because they HAVENT been given their justice on screen yet. I’m all for more niche projects like this once the universe is ALREADY established. World build first. Build the justice league and the world around it before you give me a damn show about Frankenstein and his bride working with Rick Flag SR and Weasal…and the Authority is not the SECOND movie you make in the creation of your new universe. You bring them in later on if you want. I was worried about this. I understand the happiness that they have an actual solid direction and plan, and I also really like that they’re clearly taking DIRECTLY from specific comic runs. But that was the literal floor for what I was expecting. Zaslav was quoted as saying that they were going to make damn sure that the big tent pole characters would be fleshed out first. They would be taken care of first. Before they even think about doing lesser known characters. I just don’t understand these choices. Wonder Woman prequel without Wonder Woman? Booster Gold given his own entire tv show before we get anything from the hawk family or JL Dark/Fate or before the Teen Titans or before any Speedforce characters. I’m literally only excited for Lanterns Superman and brace and bold but even with Batman I’m really upset that we’re just going to skip like 8-10 years of Bat family life and relationships with dick Barbara tim and Jason. Also, he won’t be close to the same age as Superman. On one hand I’m happy on the other hand I was hoping for something completely different and that he wouldn’t pull a James Gunn and do more with unknown characters than known characters.
How crazy would it be if the mystery uncovered in the GL show was that a new god was found dead in a dumpster? A heavy Morrison presence, Batman and Son, imagine if one of the sequels is Batman:R.I.P. and then Justice league: first Crisis. But it’s really just Gunns version of Final crisis
I trust James Gunn to make the films and shows great, but the titles/descriptions don’t really excite me if I ignored his involvement - my other reservation is that in his other people advising (?) are Tom King (whose work I really like but he does seem to tend to almost shoehorn characters in to stories he wants to tell rather than present them as established) and Christina Hodson (who I don’t know if she is to blame for the Cassandra Cain destruction in BoP, but as screen writer seems the most likely candidate) - if they advise on the approach to characters, I have some concerns
So one big thing not really mentioned is he mentions team peacemaker when talking about Amanda waller. So that's keeping suicide squad and peacemaker's universe going
It means there will be aspects of the timeline that survive the reset from The Flash, meaning that things will still change, but he'll likely keep as much of that same crew as he can (while also reshuffling bits of it because it's not gunna be exactly the same/it's still s new timeline).
I'm so excited for James Gunn vision. The guy has talent and huge comic book fan. Few of the obscure characters that he introduced will become massive household names just like he did with guardians of the galaxy and peacemaker. DCEU lacked plan and a leader in the past years but now we get this massive visionary to the drawing board. I hated people who criticised James even before he showed his plans. Let us give him time polish the turd called DCEU to a diamond called DCU. It's time for a new story telling rather than a formulaic stories.

Of course the Supergirl movie is gonna be an adaptation of the comic, because it has to be. The reason he didn’t say the word adaptation is because it goes without saying. Also, if you wanna see the same Supergirl story, just read the book again. It’s all already there. The reason we like to see movies adapted from our favorite stories is because it puts a different spin on the story that we didn’t get from the comic. If it’s just the same story again but told in a different medium, it’s boring because we already got that story
Yeah, I really don't know what to think of this lineup. Like, I'm currently most excited for Shazam and the The Batman sequel, which don't really have anything to do with this new DCU. Superman: Legacy sounds cool, but unfortunately, it's not with Henry Cavill, and not that whoever they pick won't be good, but his version of Superman was already struggling with what it means to be Human and Kryptonian, right? Why continue on with Aquaman if the universe is rebooted with Flash? It still sounds a bit shaky getting this new universe started because they want to maintain aspects of the previous installments but also get rid of others, when a completely clean break would have been clearer. I like the idea of maintaining the same actors across every medium, and I like that it's going to be more creator/story driven than producer/architect driven, but for the moment, it's just a waiting game, I can't get too excited about these things until we are much closer to their releases.

The Elite were actually based off of The Authority and Superman’s version of The Authority he formed recently included Manchester Black

Bat family is what gets me really hyped for a new Batman and that new Superman movie gives me hope
After the guardians chose Guy Gardner to replace Hal Jordan, Hal Jordan choose John Stewart to replace Guy Gardner and take Hal Jordan's place if anything happens to him. Kyle Rayner ended up taking up Hal Jordan's place while John Stewart protected earth. Apparently, in the animated series, Kyle Rayner was supposed to be fighting Parallax Hal Jordan later on in the show, but the story was scrapped after the comic fans' complaints.
With that in mind... I believe it would've been awesome if Hal Jordan Parallax was a result of loosing his BFF Barry Allen rebooting the universe, especially if he was the only person that could remember the crisis event and remember his sacrifice. It would've been a great explanation for why Wally West was the only flash in the JLU series of his own universe. Could you imagine having to deal with asking for help from people that could never understand what you've had to endure?
I'm really loving that this new DCU/DCCU/DCEU/Whatever the f*dge is starting in the middle of the characters' stories instead of being complete origins for everybody. I never really cared for reboots saying that no superheroes ever existed at all until THE EXACT YEAR the movies premiered.
A jaded Supergirl? The Lanterns?
Maybe we’ll see Red Lantern Supergirl, the emergence of the spectrums with an overall build towards the Blackest Night/Brightest Day? Sure they could navigate that with some changes……

I'm cautiously optomistic I like the whole Gods and Monsters theme and I'm excited for most of these films, however, it seems like Gunn's playing favorites on what can be kept or not, and as a Dc Comics fan, it reminds me a lot of the New 52 and how they handled continuity and it's possible that this might fall down a similar rabbit hole
This gets me hopeful that they might turn Tom king's Mister miracle into a movie. Like what there doing with Supergirl.
The only thing I wished James Gunn changed was for the Green Lantern show to be a movie. Also have Dick Grayson be the Robin of the DCU, but other than that, I'm excited.

I love everything except that he’s going to reset batman again. I thought the batman was a perfect movie and would have been great to include in the dcu.

@@_Antijosh_ He’s more *important* as Robin and the first Robin since he started the “Batfamily” being the first in technically and taught Bruce how to trust others more but is generally more *popular* as Nightwing so don’t get things twisted. He’s arguably the most important Robin only competing with Tim Drake. Big DC fan here… so many comics yell this at us besides certain trash elseworlds like White knight.

the argument for doing a straight comic to screen movie is that there are creatives involved. script writers, directors, actors, cgi artists, it goes on, that also want to feel like they are true to themselves and show some artistry. sometimes that deviates a story. who signs onto a movie generally as a director to be told, this is how the story will be and what it will look like. no deviations. good luck

To play Devil's advocate, the only thing that makes me nervous is the whole "have actors play their roles in different mediums"-thing. It's ambitious and leads to cohesion. I'm just afraid that real life has shown us that you can't predict what actors are going to do or what's going to happen to them. Obviously, the quick fix is to have an understudy in case. Other than that, expecting good things.
wait, so when he says the lanterns mystery will tie in to the dcu overall story, he means the big story for dcu is blackest night right?? he never mentioned any other property was tying into the overall story, just connect to the same universe. can we fan cast batista as black hand?
This is going to come down to the availability of anything that isn't released in cinema. DC shows and animated movies release late & are often spread over multiple services in the UK.

Well he talks a decent game. And he seems legit excited to make this happen. But a lot of the directions they've chosen to go in are kind of a mixed bag for me. My reaction was kinda like:
All star Superman? Awesome!
Green lantern? Cool.
Damien? Hmm ok.
The authority? Uh who are, or wtf is the authority?
But like most things, it will come down to execution. The proof will be in the proverbial pudding as they say. Hopefully we'll finally get the DC universe we either need, want or deserve or whatever lol
random heroes and shit can be great though, guardians of the galaxy were relatively unknown before james gunn made a live action of it, he could probably do the same with the authority

9:45 i agree 100% , jumping to the last one takes away the possibility of us loving the characters and there character development. Like it would've been nice to see jason todd first before turning into red hood, would've nice to see Batman train Dick Grayson etc, would've been nice to see Dick Graysons evolution and turning into Night wing, thats the best way to tell a story.
I dislike doing the "mcu black widow " approach which is have the events happen and then later on go back and do an origins story . The universe is better off doing it in that order

The Batman I would do with this is that yes it’s Batman and Damien, but he’s got nightwing, batgirl, and Red Robin. But not red hood, the sequel or the third movie would be under the red hood…you could even have nightwing getting attacked at the end of his movie which directly leads into under the red hood

Here’s my problem…Gunn was brought in to give the BIG MAINLINE characters their due because they HAVENT been given their justice on screen yet. I’m all for more niche projects like this once the universe is ALREADY established. World build first. Build the justice league and the world around it before you give me a damn show about Frankenstein and his bride working with Rick Flag SR and Weasal…and the Authority is not the SECOND movie you make in the creation of your new universe. You bring them in later on if you want. I was worried about this. I understand the happiness that they have an actual solid direction and plan, and I also really like that they’re clearly taking DIRECTLY from specific comic runs. But that was the literal floor for what I was expecting. Zaslav was quoted as saying that they were going to make damn sure that the big tent pole characters would be fleshed out first. They would be taken care of first. Before they even think about doing lesser known characters. I just don’t understand these choices. Wonder Woman prequel without Wonder Woman? Booster Gold given his own entire tv show before we get anything from the hawk family or JL Dark/Fate or before the Teen Titans or before any Speedforce characters. I’m literally only excited for Lanterns Superman and brace and bold but even with Batman I’m really upset that we’re just going to skip like 8-10 years of Bat family life and relationships with dick Barbara tim and Jason. Also, he won’t be close to the same age as Superman. On one hand I’m happy on the other hand I was hoping for something completely different and that he wouldn’t pull a James Gunn and do more with unknown characters than known characters.
If Batman already have Damien on his side that makes his age 40-50 and meeting young Superman that don’t make sense

How crazy would it be if the mystery uncovered in the GL show was that a new god was found dead in a dumpster? A heavy Morrison presence, Batman and Son, imagine if one of the sequels is Batman:R.I.P. and then Justice league: first Crisis. But it’s really just Gunns version of Final crisis

I trust James Gunn to make the films and shows great, but the titles/descriptions don’t really excite me if I ignored his involvement - my other reservation is that in his other people advising (?) are Tom King (whose work I really like but he does seem to tend to almost shoehorn characters in to stories he wants to tell rather than present them as established) and Christina Hodson (who I don’t know if she is to blame for the Cassandra Cain destruction in BoP, but as screen writer seems the most likely candidate) - if they advise on the approach to characters, I have some concerns

So one big thing not really mentioned is he mentions team peacemaker when talking about Amanda waller. So that's keeping suicide squad and peacemaker's universe going
It means there will be aspects of the timeline that survive the reset from The Flash, meaning that things will still change, but he'll likely keep as much of that same crew as he can (while also reshuffling bits of it because it's not gunna be exactly the same/it's still s new timeline).
Engagement and interaction with creator to please the mathemagics that choses what gets seen or not.
I'm so excited for James Gunn vision. The guy has talent and huge comic book fan. Few of the obscure characters that he introduced will become massive household names just like he did with guardians of the galaxy and peacemaker. DCEU lacked plan and a leader in the past years but now we get this massive visionary to the drawing board. I hated people who criticised James even before he showed his plans. Let us give him time polish the turd called DCEU to a diamond called DCU. It's time for a new story telling rather than a formulaic stories.

13:27 I hate to throw cold water on the party, but did you guys forget that comics and movies are two DIFFERENT storytelling mediums? Of course the Supergirl movie is gonna be an adaptation of the comic, because it has to be. The reason he didn’t say the word adaptation is because it goes without saying. Also, if you wanna see the same Supergirl story, just read the book again. It’s all already there. The reason we like to see movies adapted from our favorite stories is because it puts a different spin on the story that we didn’t get from the comic. If it’s just the same story again but told in a different medium, it’s boring because we already got that story

Yeah, I really don't know what to think of this lineup. Like, I'm currently most excited for Shazam and the The Batman sequel, which don't really have anything to do with this new DCU. Superman: Legacy sounds cool, but unfortunately, it's not with Henry Cavill, and not that whoever they pick won't be good, but his version of Superman was already struggling with what it means to be Human and Kryptonian, right? Why continue on with Aquaman if the universe is rebooted with Flash? It still sounds a bit shaky getting this new universe started because they want to maintain aspects of the previous installments but also get rid of others, when a completely clean break would have been clearer. I like the idea of maintaining the same actors across every medium, and I like that it's going to be more creator/story driven than producer/architect driven, but for the moment, it's just a waiting game, I can't get too excited about these things until we are much closer to their releases.
