New management. The only thing that’s the same is the name. What makes a company is the poeple who run it. New CEO with Safran and Gunn and new owner with Zaslav. We’re dealing with a different WB here so let’s give them a chance and see what they can do before throwing the problems of past management on to them,
As always, execution is what’s most important. A Henry Cavill-Ben Affleck Batman-Superman movie is gold on paper… and yet here we are. Some of these projects could be amazing, or terrible, it all depends on the writing. But here’s hoping for the best.
I don't mind if every movie or show is connected or not. As long as they can tell interesting and compelling stories then great. If these several projects can then interact with each other and improves the product, even better.
This, way too many companies center way too much on the future rather than the present i mean what's the point of having a good sequel if the other movies barely work by themselves
I just hope they aren't afraid to get mature, because A LOT of the strongest and best stories in the DCU are really mature. And hopefully one day, we get either and animated or live action adaptation of the Batman Who Laughs. Such a great comic. Even if its outside the universe, I want to see that story on screen.
@@Deadly072092 oh shit even worse.....ur right yeah man we need that kinda of shit in dcu badly. We're all ready for it most of us are grown and still love our childhood stuff. Like when I saw puss in boots in theaters with my boys, atleast half where my age group (23) mixed with kids so yeah. I'm not saying it has to be for kids more us kids who grew up still want to see em just more real / relatable ig.
Considering all the characters they just showed, yeah: these will probably be A LOT more like The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker in some ways. The Authority, for example, is VERY violent. Swamp-Thing is a horror comic. Woman of Tomorrow is kinda dark in some areas. A lot of these NEED to be very mature.
I just want the characters to really embody what they're meant to symbolize. I want a Superman that loves Justice and a Batman that's intelligent and bold.
The Superman legacy project will be and has to be the most important project if that movie tanks that’s gonna be the steepest hole to climb out of for DC and James Gunn. That’s a lot of pressure for the Superman movie one that’s introducing a new Superman actor but not an origin story. Seems like a lot even for Superman to carry
This was the best breakdown of the dcu slate. Even from someone who was angry af at the Henry thing, this was spoken with hope and optimism , which is something most DC fans, not the cult, are feelin right now. Awesome video
To me the Authority is the most interesting project of them all. It's basically Justice League/Avengers but more cinematic, with no shying away from violence or sexuality; politics and societal matters; with some wickedly good british humour and caustic commentary on both the medium and the various subject matters. If James Gunn can capture the spirit of Warren Ellis and Mark Millar; and can find a director capable of doing the same with Bryan Hitch's and Frank Quitely's amazing art - ironically Zack Snyder is among the best candidates for that, just don't give him the script for goodness sake - it could very well be a grander version of ''Man of Steel''. Not much of comic-book movie, but a glorious sci-fi one.
The title gods and monsters is interesting. One major comic book series i've never seen adapted was the Metal and Death Metal series that recently printed in comics a few years back. Barbatos and the batman who laughs, the dark multiverse. I hope they do something with this, maybe even in the elseworld category. hell... i'd love dceased, dc vs vampires and dark knights of steel. These are some of the recent comics i've fell in love with under the DC umbrella.
I’d put money on us seeing Darkseid finally come to live action before we get Perpetua, Barbatos & the Dark Knights. DCeased would be a cool elsewords story or lead off from the Darkseid story
@@creativecookbook you just point out one movie. If they get the right writers and directors that did Teen Titans Judas Contract, Flashpoint Paradox, Justice League Dark Apokolips War and such it doable.
Just realised right now that I’m getting too old for this shit. I’m still a little bit excited about seeing a version of Robin done justice on the big screen.
Same, i'm 25 and will be 27 when the new DCU kicks off in 2025 with the next Superman movie. The joy and wonder I felt when the MCU started in 2008 when I was 10 (14 when the DCEU started) has mostly faded by this point and I don't have much hope it will come back
@@jp3813 Maybe maybe not. I'll give the new DCU a chance but i'm not hyped for it or anything. It's up to James Gunn and his team to make compelling stories to convince me his universe is worth the emotional investment and time investment
I don't think Joe understood what he meant about Shazam. James meant that because Shazam was in his own pocket universe before the DCU, he can exist as is in the new DCU. It looks like the choice to depict Superman without a head was smart after all haha
If they keep Zachery Levi as Shazam, which he was a horrible cast in the first place And fire Henry Cavil as the best Superman cast james gunn is a F'n idiot
I'm pretty excited, the Batman project sounds different, the Superman project sounds like it will try to capitalize on the hope that Superman represents early on and the Supergirl project sounds like it will give a very different look at the character. As for The Authority, I don't think I know much either, Swamp Thing I'm excited for as he tends to show up in a lot of the magic focused stories and is a very unique individual as the representative of The Green. Green Lantern might be the thing I'm most excited for overall though, but that's just because I constantly hope that Zero Hour will be faithfully adapted one day, Hal Jordan and John Stewart on the screen at the same time is also something major, only missing Guy Gardner for the old guard of GL now. Kyle Rayner represented a change, some peoples favorite Lantern and other people kind of got fed up with him, will be interesting to see if they do bring him to screen and try to wind up to a Blackest Night event.
When i saw that this video is more than a hour long video and the original announcement was like 6 minutes then i knew it will be great. It keeps me warm and happy to know that Joe has this much passion for Superman and DC : ) I loved the Superman rant video about Henry, so i will take a step back and wait what comes out of DC under James Gunn, but it looks hopeful, as much as it is painful to accept that Henry is gone, the character should live on, so we will see. Great video, looking forward to se more like this : )
What annoys me is that some previous characters form the old DCEU still get to be a part of this new Universe, but Henry doesn't, I hate that he's playing favourites. Either you commit 100% with revamping the whole universe or you don't.
@@alexfarmer15 Jason Momoa is perfect for Lobo, so i dont mind them to swich him to that role, also, everyone talks only good things about the Ezra Miller Flash movie, so i have to see it before i judge Gunn too early about recasting some people and leaving in others, but Henry was not fired, the Superman he played is a different Superman with different "background" what Gunn wants to introduce, that is all, Gunn probably wants to work with people who he can rely on as far as performance goes, so it is kinda understandable if he wants to work with some actors which he knows, but we will see.
They'll probably use the series to build the audience then bring them in to the movie, he's basically having to build the audience up again and trust of fans :)
A series is perfect for Booster Gold, he needs that extra time to not be written off as just a smug, selfish ass, which a full character arc over several episodes can accomplish better than one movie.
GL is most likely on Earth for budgetary reasons. If the story is interesting and visually on beat, then it could be a good series. I'm just happy that Hal Jordan is not being sidelined in favor of the other guy, like they did in the recent green lantern animation.
@@panthergod based on james gunn's "terrifying mystery that will be part of the bigger dceu" comment about the gl show ,it makes me think were gonna get the sinstero corp war and/or the blackest night arcs from the green lantern comics which are my favorite two green lantern comics
Just want to add that I think the animation into a movie or tv series is a smart plan. Look at it this way, you do the animated series and pick the actors you want before you even film them in live action. You get to test the waters as to what does and what does not work with your animated characters. You then get another opportunity to refine your characters for live action and the best part is the actors already are in tune with the character they are playing.
The problem is gonna be contract. If it goes as u say, the actor live n breath the characters for yeaaaars. Hopefully whoever get the gig still get to do other stuff
I think Marvel universe worked at first because they wanted to make Thanos saga work and in order to get there, they needed to make lot of connected movies. The Marvel Universe is just a consequence of that wish and it worked. However, after that movie the shared concept for Marvel isn't quite working lately as it is so unfocused and uneven. Disney needs another Thanos saga like to guide their shared concept. Hope DC is making shared universe as a tool or means to tell epic storytelling, not the end game for a marketing ploy.
I agree. They knew where they wanted to go when they started and filled the gaps as they went along. I feel like with the MCU as we got it obviously was great, over 10 years of movies and characters developing and it all peaked in Infinity War and Endgame, but in my opinion we shouldn't have gotten Age Of Ultron when we did. Ultron was a Thanos level threat but was shown far too early and was used as a stepping stone to Thanos. Casting for Ultron was spot on, James Spader, and the Introduction to Vision was also great in that it allowed Paul Bettany to continue doing Marvel movies first as Jarvis then to Vision and had it make sense as to why Vision sounds like Jarvis. But Ultron I feel should have either been introduced far later or not in the main MCU at all because of how Grandiose a villian he is and he deserves his own build up Villian Arc. But now with Marvel after Endgame, Disney in general, its becoming increasingly evident that all they want to do now is preach the woke agenda instead of giving us good stories and incredible characters. The mockery they made of Dare Devil taking everything away that made people love the original TV show and his character making him a one night stand for She Hulk, turning any and all Female characters into Mary-Sue archetypes who are all perfect in every way possible and don't need to change or become better(Wasp, Captain Marvel, She Hulk, ect.) while any male characters are either turned into bumbling buffoons, like what they did to Antman in Antman and The Wasp despite being Antman's second movie and that he should have a grasp on being a dependable hero at that point, or are made out to be the bad guy in the movie especially if they are white like Icarus in Eternals or that dumbass shit that was in She Hulk. And if for whatever reason there is a Female Antagonist they have to go on and on about how she is misunderstood or how she is the actual victim even if they did horrible shit in the movie or TV show. Falcon and Winter Soldier's Flag Smasher where she was literally a terrorist but made sympathetic and had Falcon actually defend her actions. Or when Wanda held an entire town hostage and made them play house for her personal delusion, where she knew damn well what she was doing the entire time and we know this because the dude in the Hazmat/Bee costume shows up and she says, "No." and the scene resets as if he was never there, and was told at the end by the Captain Marvel ripoff that, ‘They’ll never know what you sacrificed for them.’ She didn't sacrifice anything. All she did was the right thing in not using innocent people to puppet her "What could have been" life. Her children and the Vision she was married to never existed until Wanda created them. And then they turned this shit to 11 in Multiverse of Madness where she murders several people, a crap ton of wizards and another universes version of The Avengers basically leaving that Earth defenseless against any Villian or Cosmic threats, and employs literal Demons and Monsters to do her grunt work. This gigantic rant paragraph aside, I hope we get something actually good from Gunn's plan for DC and that Disney jumps ship on this woke nonsense. They need our money to continue existing but are dead set on insulting us with Racist or Sexist when we don't blindly pay them to watch their Agenda bullshit. Or, we get a new company that creates new stories with new characters we actually like and they become the next Multi-million Dollar Marvel equivalent. Holding out a lot of hope for Henry Cavill's Warhammer Cinematic Universe on Amazon. Thats probably the only thing I'm hyped for anymore with this Woke stuff nowadays.
All Star Superman comic is a masterpiece. Batman and Robin comic is phenomenal as well. Grant Morrison is one of the greatest writers in entertainment for sure.
Saw the All star Superman movie and it was just ok. How was it different from the comic? Explain it to me like I'm 5, but seriously because I've never read it
@@youtubesucks1821 the movie got HEAVILY cut, the book is a highly acclaimed masterpiece and arguably the best Superman comic. Read it right now, the film is fine but leaves out too much.
I hope that there is room for Cavills Superman in the Elseworld universe, it could be possible, but probably unlikely. Otherwise I like what the first chapter has lined up. The Lantern story, being in the same vein as True Detective has got me interested for sure. And no Lobo news..probably not a character we will see before chapter 2.
Nobody cares about Cavill, the final nail in the coffin was Black Adam bombing. Henry Cavill as Superman was never a thing, not even TEN YEARS AGO when his ONLY movie was released.
Every fan, and critique overtly ridiculed Batman v Superman Movie. Thus WB took the feedback as a disaster. This would be the catalyst that in eventuality rebuke the great iteration of Henry Cavil's Superman.
Excited to see what these projects will turn out to be in the future. Batman the brave and the bold sounds interesting though I was concerned with what the plans were with Patterson’s Batman and seems I found my answer. Gonna be weird to have 2 Batman series going on but I’m for it!
We'll see, man. For now, I'm with those who support restoring the snyderverse regardless of the Flash movie because if you've seen Marvel movies centered on Doctor Strange regarding the multiverse and the infinite number of possibilities, there is still hope on how the Snyderverse can be restored just like Young Justice. Even if it has to be done with some major cast members being replaced and a soft reboot on much of everything we've seen in previous movies.
@@bingboompow6250 they have no idea wtf they are doing. Adding Damian wayne means batman near the end of his career. So they are gonna give Damian ALL the robin stories or skip so much🤷🏿♂️
@@tallerwarrior1256if 3 is the last film. That’s a HUGE disappointment. The world they set up has so much potential. No way it ends after 3 films. Don’t make shit up, you’re not James Gunn.
@@mrmxyzptlk8906 Im pretty sure Matt Reeves said he was going to make a trilogy. Obviously there’s going to be spin offs like solo films and tv shows but the mainline Batman movies will most likely be three just like the Joker films. You also have to think about the actors involved. Actors like Robert Pattinson and Joaquin Phoenix won’t stay for a saga.
For me personally I am looking forward to Brave and the Bold, Lanterns, and Booster Gold. I also hope maybe a new Green Arrow will arrive along with all these projects.
Honestly I can’t say I’m really excited about anything except the true detective green lantern series, that seems like a solid concept and exactly what I would want from a G I’ve been dying for a live action Jon Stewart as the original justice league show was my life as a child
I think that henry cavil might return at some point in the future, perhaps as an elseworld story or multiverse cameo. It happened with Brandon Routh after all.
In The Suicide Squads defense: it was released for free the same day it was released in the cinemas and since it was 2021 a lot of people were still iffy about going back out again unless they had to. If they didn't release it on HBO Max that same day it would've done so much better.
Honestly glad that whole mess is coming to an end. Time for something new. We're lucky to even have the Snyder Cut release. The one I'm most hype for is Lanterns. His description of it is hitting all the right beats for me. The only downside is that it seems like the ratings will be all over the place. You can take yours kids to see the latest Superman film but you won't be able to show them most of the TV series they are coming out with as they'll be ultra violent as per Gunn's style. I don't mind it, but there will be some disconnect with the audiences due to that decision.
What people seem to forget about “they need to bring in more recognizable heroes” is that no one knew who iron man was before the live action movie. I think this is good for the average person because they already who Superman is,who Batman is,who the flash is so things like the authority is something fresh for people to be curious about
as a 90 `s kid iron man was my favourite character for the cartoons. Like X-men was very present in my mind. Sorry but i am skeptical about James gunn decisions, but i can`t deny that DCU was a big mess. Hope time proves me wrong.
Brave and the Bold I'm most excited for! Just because Bat-Dad is the best version of Batman for me. When he finally understands his role, morals, has friends he can depend on, is wiser, and experienced life on the brighter side. (Thanks to Alfred and Clark). The real excitement though are the four Robins we will potentially see!
That's what I'm not hype about. First time we see dcu Batman he gonna be spending the movie telling brat Damion how wrong it is to kill people. 😐. We got that in son of Batman the animated movie.
Joe, there was a rumor a few months back about the possibility that Spielberg could be involved in the next Superman movie, based on the fact that he was seen having lunch with the new head of WB. That rumor got me very excited. A Spielberg, big-budget, summer-blockbuster Superman movie would be pretty much my dream come true. As much as I like James Gunn, I think, Spielberg is a better fit for Superman's spirit: wholesome goodness, righteousness, purity, etc.
I had very little confidence in this whole thing. Right up until I saw that they’re using The Authority. That kind of deep cut shows a more genuine understanding of the material and has really restored my faith in this direction.
I feel the opposite about using The Authority. The authority is what you use when you want to spew edgy crap with abandon with little understanding of the setting.
Yo I’m most excited for the lanterns. Green lantern (any of the three. Hal, John, Kyle) is my favorite DC hero. I really…REALLY hope that James Gunn can make Green Lantern shine.
As a casual fan at best I can't say there's lots in that announcement that gets me excited. To get mass audiences I think they needed to go for more and more of the well known..then bring in the properties theyve got.
They're literally doing what the mcu did in 2008-2012. The Avengers were like C list characters until the movie. Especially iron man. And the guardians of the galaxy were even more obscure before that movie. Superman and batman and green lantern are main stays. They're huge characters. These announcements are a mixture of big hitting characters and lesser known, more obscure characters. This entire announcement is great for dc.
I disagree. Look what he did with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Mass audiences had never heard of Groot or Rocket and now they're fan favourites. If they write some excellent and engaging stories with entertaining and relatable characters people will watch these movies
@nikolaiorelov what are you talking about? The Incredible Hulk was the first movie, who's one of the most well known superheroes outside of Superman and Batman. Iron Man was next and he's Marvel's poster boy outside of Captain America and Spider-Man. Saying Iron Man was a c-lister before Iron Man in 2008 is absolutely obsurd. The only lesser known characters in the original Avengers are Hawkeye and Black Widow, but they were featured in other movies to placate that issue. Even then, anyone that has basic knowledge of Marvel knows of those 2 characters. A lot of these DC projects are massive whiffs. People are not going to invest in a new universe until they see how their big hitters land. If Superman is a no show then DCCU is dead in the water again, and that's not til 2025 with other projects waiting out there til then. Batman starting with Damian Wayne is another problematic theme. We don't want to immediately see an older Batman, where's Dick Grayson? Where's Jason Todd? It's weird saying Batfamily when you are starting with the end of it and Damian is always written to be an unbearable ass, so that could put people off their first outing with a new Batman. It would have been much nicer seeing these characters grow, much like we did with the MCU. Tony Stark in 2008 is not the same as Tony Stark in 2019. It'd be nice to have seen a Batman meeting Dick Grayson, take him under his wing for eventually him to become Nighwing and step out of Batman's shadow, watching him fail with Jason Todd and then finally get reconciliation with Damian Wayne. Under the Red Hood is a great animated movie that shows DC can do it, but we'll have to wait and see.
@Jake Carpenter while I agree with you that this is a huge risk I also believe that it will pay off since Superman is one of the first projects. Also Iron Man was the first MCU movie released a month earlier than The Incredible Hulk
If James is serious about using Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, and the other great contemporary shows with that then I am 100% completely sold. The reason I didn't like the previous franchise creation is because everything that was in Justice League TAS wasn't mentioned at all.
So is Joe just going to shit over everything Superman until July 2025 because he’s still upset about Henry Cavill? Jesus Christ this is gonna be an annoying few years, and then watch when the movie comes out he’s gonna be like 10/10
The biggest fear factor I have is budget. These aren't cheap projects, they each have to be huge hits to justify the cost of the next movie/show. WB isn't so cash rich these days so I'm waiting with caution.
Honestly I’m mostly excited for this slate. I like the mixture of popular and obscure characters. So glad Robin is finally gonna be used along with the Lanterns and Booster Gold. My only concern is them potentially keeping Miller
Trust me miller is gone. I know DC has done some questionable stuff in the past but James Gunn is not THAT MUCH of a fucking idiot lol. It’s just pr talk. Miller is 1000% gone. They wouldn’t want to release info that the main star is fired before the movie even releases. The fact that Gunn said the flash movie “resets everything” is all the proof I need. That’s it for the DCEU and that’s it for miller. Some loosely connected stuff like Peacemaker is staying but other then that it starts fresh with Superman Legacy.
A True Detective Green Lantern is such an amazing idea - hoping there’s long scenes of Hal and John just talking in a spaceship.. maybe the other lanterns have flashbacks or episodes where we see what they do when they’re not on the job… it’s literally the perfect premise
@@loicthiant7448 Oh, yes. My bad, for some reason his name didn't cross my mind and I was focused on DC hero character names. Yeah, I hope they get rid of him too.
What I love about Injustice is that Superman there WAS the pinnacle of hope/light/good people and fans expect from him, Batman looked up to him in that way as well, making it all the more tragic when he’s forced to have to take him down, have him in jail, etc. The character’s drama-fueled gradual turn was fully fleshed out in the comics and made perfect sense, easily some of DC’s best storytelling. People may hate on the decisions but it was impossible to argue against the execution in the comics without showing clear bias.
I have been wanting the Justice League Dark/Supernatural corner of DCU to be done for a long time and the fact that the first slate includes Swampy and the Creature Commandos has me so excited. Hopefully that means others like Constantine, Zatanna, Etrigan, Shadowpact etc. are all coming eventually.
@Wes Sparks I want to see the Animal Man team up arc come to life which the red kingdom join forces with the parliament of green to beat Anton Arcane's the rot.
@Wes Sparks But I agree with you. I want Gunn to use Swamp Thing as the vehicle to start the dark side of DC's universe and introduce people to more obscure characters like Animal Man, Etrigan, The Spectre, Phantom Stranger, Deadman, Zatanna and Constantine like Alan Moore did on his comic run 40 years ago.
@@WildDogGamerBoy Animal Man would be great for a series. It's a suburban dad who is a quirky, offbeat superhero. Grant Morrison's run on him is one of his more underappreciated works. And hell yes to seeing him team up with Swamp Thing to take on the rot. Actually that's a big enough story to include the whole JL Dark.
This is such a horrible lineup. When you restart a DCU you have to start off with the big hitters. You cannot start a DCU with C-tier characters and projects still in the old DCEU. Just such an inconsistent mess
I agree with you about the big hitters too but I like that their doing it different from marvel and starting with unknowns first only cuz it’s different. I’m curious how it’ll be and it makes me anticipate it more
The fact that Creature Comandos is already fully written, has a logo, and character designs just tells me it’s a holdover from before they started the DCU. And it could be conveniently migrated over to taking place in the DCU. So the first actual DCU project that is made for the DCU will be Superman Legacy.
Couldn't it be that those "big hitters" are taking more time to write/produce/etc. given that they're... "big hitters"; while these lesser known character shows may have already been written/in development?
As mad as I am about the Cavill situation, I actually completely understand why they chose to replace him. Superman is the face of DC and to differentiate themselves from the DCEU they need a new face to represent their new brand. It only makes sense and will help general audiences understand this is a new and different thing.
Man... Congrats on transforming a 6 minute announcement into a 1hr+ reaction video! 😆 Seriously though, I do appreciate it bro. Some great points made here 👌🏻🔥
We’re asked to “move on” with Superman actors all the time. 20 year plans for a franchise that has been so volatile seems obscenely ambitious. I can’t see this lasting more than five years, but what do I know.
I REALLY hope that Elsewolrd stuff isn't limited to Joker and The Batman. There are so many stories in DC comics that just work best as standalones. Like how cool would a The Darkness movie be? Even beyond that, contained stories for mainstream characters would be cool.
REALLY hoping for a henry Cavill elseworlds Superman film(s). Like why in the world would you NOT take that opportunity. Whether it be a MoS2 or just a completely different Superman story, that's a golden opportunity
it would detract from their main Superman movies. Fans would start crapping on the new Superman saying he's not as good as Cavill, because Cavill's still playing Superman (in your situation). It'd be a bad move
-Firing- not hiring Cavill is indeed a really bold decision. It's like there's a change of management at Lakers and the first thing the manager did was firing Lebron James. Very risky decision so good fucking luck for Gunn.
No matter how you look at it, it’s quite astounding of a feat to completely reset the continuity of a cinematic universe on such an unprecedented level. Keep in mind that this isn’t just about a single character or a group of characters, but the entire DC franchise; like imagine if that happened to Star Wars or Marvel(screen-wise). It’s an insanely risky and polarizing move, but one that could have a shockwave of ramifications. Either way, this will be interesting to watch unfold.
@@mr.j410 While that may be true, here its on a different medium. Regardless, I’m not the one who needs to be said that; say that to those who are really in a frenzy.
Joe, this is my critical thinking, but I feel like he’s only saying Shazam 2 Aquaman 2 and the flash to be part of his DC universe just for them to make good money with those movies and then once the move, those movies are done then they’re out as in Jason Momoa‘s, not Aquaman as there’s no flash, and Zachary Levi is not Shazam anymore. I think he just wants to promote it so they can earn extra money for his DC universe and then once those three movies are done then he’s like all right that’s it. You guys are all fired that’s it.
WB needed to come out swinging with a Trinity movie with Batman,Superman and Wonder Woman instead we get an Amanda Waller tv show! What a joke!Gadot,Caville,Batfleck out the James Gunn clique in!Not excited by any of it
I wish the DCU well but there is nothing that James Gunn said that I find to be amazing. A few animated and live action shows on HBO Max, and a few movies about B list characters doesn't move the needle. Dumping the entire DCEU in favor of younger actors that will work for cheap is a lazy move. The fans want to see great movies staring the trinity of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, culminating in an awesome Justice League show down with Darkseid. Sadly, that is not going to happen anytime soon. Just like Henry Cavill, the fans need to move on.
15:57 im not convinced after the trailer, DC trailers meen nothing to me anymore and I dont watch trailers as a hole anymore due to split scenes beginning middle and finale of the movie. not to mention joe, if you heard about the trailer bill, keatens batman could be a cut scene and deleted scene and only gonna be available in the special features of deleted scenes on disc. if keatens batman scenes are NOT in full length of the movie and short snubbed in the full length feature, theres gonna be legal trouble of false advertisement.
Because it's James Gunn, the guy whose whole resume was sent into the stratosphere with Guardians of the Galaxy. His whole shtick is giving goofy D-listers the spotlight, in fact I'm worried about how he's going to handle A-list characters like Superman and Batman without giving them some weird immature comedic edge
I hoping they are doing Blackest Night/Brightest Day story line...saying the Green Lanterns find the big bad and then ending with Swamp Thing gives me hope!
This is probably a long shot but because since there will be a Lantern series I hope we get to see Red Lantern Suergirl sometime in the future. That's my favorite iteration of the character.
One thing I would love to see is a bit of a separation away from the Justice League for a little bit and have each major Leaguer start or join different smaller factions of the DCU. For instance, in the comics, the Authority eventually rally behind Superman as their leader as he tries to change how they go about things. With the introduction of the Bat Family, we could either see Batman Inc or the Outsiders start to take form. Hell, even the introduction of Damian Wayne & Nightwing could give us Teen Titans or Titans (or both!). And then when the biggest threat comes together, that's when the Justice League assembles. Is it likely to happen? Probably not, but it'd certainly be a welcome change for me.
This is like trying to build a championship team with mid players and future prospects. You lost or let go all of your high profile stars. You think you can win a championship with team build on nobodies? You don't even have a star Quarterback to carry this entire slate. Lol I see reason to get rid of Cavill. He could have easily led this slate....
When Justice league comes out, most of us fans now on our 30s or 40s we gonna be super Old... 🤣 I've Faith that Gunn can bring back this brand too the spotlight, has a superman fan I hope that this movie is incredible and mostly inspired people to be good...
@@bebaguette766 I'm still wondering when he's gonna go to George Lucas, look at him in the eyes and Tell him he started all of this...oh Right, he wont, because he's an hypocrite who just wanted and Easy clap that day
18:10 Joe, you are the only person to notice how Gunn just breezes over Aquaman and I appreciate how you acknowledged this. It also makes me think (and this is also due to numerous reports that say virtually the same thing) that Aquaman 2 is gonna suck and afterwards no one will be interested in revisiting that version of that character. I believe that, shortly after the movie's release, that it will be officially announced that Jason Momoa will step down as Aquaman and become Lobo in the new DCU.
I agree with Joe, however I’m most excited for The Lantern TV series. I’ve always believed that Lanterns could have their own movie universe, so doing a TV series adaptation that connects in with the movies is the perfect way to go. The Lanterns lore and stories are vast and unique. I can only hope in time James Gunn will introduce all the different lantern core colours and have origin stories for each one.
I like continuity. If they are trying hard to keep the same actors consistent across film and TV ..I would also like it to pay off when they all cross over. This is what I am confused about as there is no idea of what these movies will collide as. It's obvious a JL movie will happen but..we're getting a young Superman, an older batman with a 10 yr old son, no Wonder Woman but a series on her nation before her birth, booster gold from the future, lanterns investigating a cosmic effecting case, super girl who sounds emo.. and then Waller from the Snyderverse era. You see what I mean? Like how will they all gel together for the end of the chapter movie?
I think I know where they're going with this. It's said that the Lanterns series will focus on the Green Lanterns unveiling a secret alien mystery happening on Earth. I think this mystery will lead to the discovery of the force of Apokolips, as Gunn did say that this discovery will lead to the larger story of this universe. Furthermore, we're getting a Batman and a Superman movie, as well as a story about the origins of Themyscira. Most importantly to my predictions, we'll be getting a Supergirl movie. I think all this is leading to the first big crossover film, a Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern "World's Finest," story that adapts "The Supergirl from Krypton," the story where Superman and Batman meet a version of Supergirl who's been brainwashed and made to serve Darkseid. In the comic, after breaking Supergirl's brainwashing, Kara is trained how to fight in Themyscira by the Amazons, specifically by Wonder Woman. I could see all this happening in the DCU, with the Green Lanterns discovering Darkseid's plan on Earth, Batman and Superman intercepting Supergirl, and Wonder Woman already in place to train her. All the necessary pieces are in place for a version of this story to happen onscreen as the first big crossover.
I’m scared that since they’re doing so many hero groups there’s just gonna be SO many characters in a movie where they all have to fight together. I just don’t know how it’s gonna pan out well. I’d rather of have maybe one group to start and 1 or 2 solo films to start off a whole new reboot of DC
Cw Arrowverse is over anyways. It was great until green arrow "died" ,, whatever followed after that cross over season, was just bad ,, -- I'm not much of a DC fan. But I've watch all batman movies. I don’t know why people complain about Gunn cherry picking what he keeps and what he gets rid of, as if Crisis events in comics haven’t done that for the past 40 years or so
I'm excited for this! I hope it works out and the movies aren't flops. I'm also glad he's not bringing the old characters. Fire everybody and start fresh.

James Gunn saw HUGE success with the C-list Guardians of the Galaxy, showing to all the world that he can create awesome movies from offbeat, unknown characters. In fact, it's his forte. the DCU is going to be very silly, and awesome!
He did say Swamp Thing would be very dark, I think comic book silliness is a positive for accuracy but I’m glad he seems to be showing a willingness to give tonal difference in a cohesive universe a shot
@@Jon-holm Have you ever watched the DCAU? I imagine the tone will be very similar with the few exceptions like Booster Gold and Creature Commandos being the over the top stuff and stuff like Swamp Thing and the inevitable long term build up being the more serious tone stuff. @@PurpleandGold615 Yea I love the DCAU. Justice League Dark Apokolips War was masterclass. I just worry about major comics blockbusters all turning into action comedies to please general audiences like what happened with SW the last jedi
To attach Superman to all of the good in the world, as if he was the foundation for it all, is incredibly pretentious. Writers have never tried to do that with Spider-Man or Cap, despite their obvious influence. We in the real world don’t do that with any deceased person of extreme prominence, whether it be Stan Lee or anyone. Take this example, I firmly believe that if everyone in the world played through Kojima’s Metal Gear games, we’d have a much better world that basically achieves a civilized global society of world peace. But I wouldn’t dare say something like all X people who do Y things carry on Kojima’s legacy after his death, because they could’ve gotten their influence or epiphanies from any number of different origins. Kojima wouldn’t like that credit and if Superman was really that great of a person, he wouldn’t either. Russel Crowe’s father character in MOS was also pretty pretentious to expect his son to have that impact.
I doubt this would happen but I REALLY want Grant Gustin to take on the flash role. Yes the CW shows are chessy and often don't have the best writing in later seasons but I don't think people can deny Grant IS the flash for a lot of people and does amazing in the role in the arrow verse and with better writing I think his acting can truly shine if they let him. With the arrowverse being basically nuke I think it would be a good time to give him the role. Only issue I see is I think Grant just had a child so I'm not sure if he would take it even if James did offer up the role.

From Guardians of the Galaxy to Suicide Squad, James seems to be pretty good at turning Z-listers into genuinely likable and engaging characters. So Creature Commandos could definitely be good. Amanda Waller is a character that NEEDS more focus to have the same authority and presence she commanded in Justice League. Don't know if it'll be good, but I certainly hope so. And YES! Booster Gold is such an underrated character. I really came to love him in Justice League Unlimited. He deserves this. There's a lot more I can comment on, but overall I'm cautiously optimistic.

Starting over was the best thing they could do. DCEU was a trainwreck, and I 100% believe they were more interested in getting the success MCU was getting, than making interesting movies. Henry was a great Superman, and it's too bad they didn't hire him. But I think they wanted new actors, to make it clear that this is different from DCEU. From what I understand, Henry is working on a project he is very exited about. So, at least, he'll be able to focus on that.

That’s why marvel worked
Exactly. First make a good product that can stand on its own, only then think of a "universe". For example, Iron Man is a great movie on its own.
I mean James literally said their main focus is the " story telling " everything else is secondary
Make them strong enough to stand on their own, and still connect them to the mainline universe
I just hope they aren't afraid to get mature, because A LOT of the strongest and best stories in the DCU are really mature.

As for The Authority, I don't think I know much either, Swamp Thing I'm excited for as he tends to show up in a lot of the magic focused stories and is a very unique individual as the representative of The Green. Jason Momoa is perfect for Lobo, so i dont mind them to swich him to that role, also, everyone talks only good things about the Ezra Miller Flash movie, so i have to see it before i judge Gunn too early about recasting some people and leaving in others, but Henry was not fired, the Superman he played is a different Superman with different "background" what Gunn wants to introduce, that is all, Gunn probably wants to work with people who he can rely on as far as performance goes, so it is kinda understandable if he wants to work with some actors which he knows, but we will see.

I need to see darkseid love action being badass. That's what Dc needa

Yo I’m most excited for the lanterns. Green lantern (any of the three. Hal, John, Kyle) is my favorite DC hero. I really…REALLY hope that James Gunn can make Green Lantern shine.
Seeing Apollo and Midnighter on the Big Screen has my wife and I sooo excited. The authority will be a GREAT visceral project
I just remembered my favorite comic book from the 90s. Cyberforce. I'd love to see that rebranded as a live action future sci-fi movie or show.
Then do yourself a favor and upgrade from a casual member to comic fan, it’s fun over here 🙌🏼
What Gunn did was a total DXXK move
Henry Cavill is like 40 years man, it's pretty easy to see why James Gunn decided to replace him
If James is serious about using Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, and the other great contemporary shows with that then I am 100% completely sold. The reason I didn't like the previous franchise creation is because everything that was in Justice League TAS wasn't mentioned at all.
They're going to use the Authority in place of Justice Lords (themselves a commentary on stories like Authority and Squadrom Supreme).. hopefully.
@@panthergod You're probably right but anything is possible now!

Who is Miller?
A True Detective Green Lantern is such an amazing idea - hoping there’s long scenes of Hal and John just talking in a spaceship.. maybe the other lanterns have flashbacks or episodes where we see what they do when they’re not on the job… it’s literally the perfect premise

Im still skeptical but excited for lantern, superman and supergirl
What I love about Injustice is that Superman there WAS the pinnacle of hope/light/good people and fans expect from him, Batman looked up to him in that way as well, making it all the more tragic when he’s forced to have to take him down, have him in jail, etc.
The character’s drama-fueled gradual turn was fully fleshed out in the comics and made perfect sense, easily some of DC’s best storytelling. People may hate on the decisions but it was impossible to argue against the execution in the comics without showing clear bias.
I'm just glad Swampy is getting some love. One of the most criminally overlooked characters of all time.
@@wessparks5204 Tv show would ve perfect for him
This is such a horrible lineup.
Personally I'm tired of seeing the big hitters. I welcome a break bring me some c-listers.
I thought Super-man Legacy,Lanterns,The Batman part 2,Super-girl film and Batman Brave and the Bold are bangers to announce.
As mad as I am about the Cavill situation, I actually completely understand why they chose to replace him. Superman is the face of DC and to differentiate themselves from the DCEU they need a new face to represent their new brand. It only makes sense and will help general audiences understand this is a new and different thing.
Plus they want to go young. All I am saying is look out for Henry Cavill to play Jor-El.

You clearly not DC fans. You just Cavil fans.
it would detract from their main Superman movies.

I was resistant when Gunn took over but I gotta say I’m pretty stoked about the announcements. Superman and Lanterns I’m really looking forward to.

Thanks for covering this Joe. I gotta be honest, I know I wouldn't have watched this James Gunn video otherwise 😆
Bro why are they scraping the bottom of the barrel??? They have all of DC and this is what they’re giving us?
Because it's James Gunn, the guy whose whole resume was sent into the stratosphere with Guardians of the Galaxy. His whole shtick is giving goofy D-listers the spotlight, in fact I'm worried about how he's going to handle A-list characters like Superman and Batman without giving them some weird immature comedic edge
I hoping they are doing Blackest Night/Brightest Day story line...saying the Green Lanterns find the big bad and then ending with Swamp Thing gives me hope!
They will need Flash & Green Lantern Hal Jordan to become best friend, because Flash & Hal are the main char in that story
Flash running all over the places to help Hal XD
This is probably a long shot but because since there will be a Lantern series I hope we get to see Red Lantern Suergirl sometime in the future. That's my favorite iteration of the character.

Booting henry was unforgivable. He deserved better. Gunn owed his superman a proper farewell
I don't think gunn owed him anything. He didn't hire the dude

Remember Gunn said this is only half of the projects from chapter 1.
I don't suspect that Justice League will end Chapter 1. It may end Chapter 2
This is gonna suck, everything sounds boring af

James Gunn saw HUGE success with the C-list Guardians of the Galaxy, showing to all the world that he can create awesome movies from offbeat, unknown characters. In fact, it's his forte. the DCU is going to be very silly, and awesome!

Remaster Superman 64!
Russel Crowe’s father character in MOS was also pretty pretentious to expect his son to have that impact.
ahh man i miss the early days of arrow and flash it looks so bright both those main actors deserved so much better
