It is pretty interesting to me how they'll introduce Damian Wayne as the first movie Robin in over 20 years before Dick Grayson. Im sure he'll also be featured in the film as Nightwing so we'll see how this turns out
God, I hope we get an adaptation of when Dick took up the mantle of Batman and chose Damian as his Robin. They have such a great chemistry in the comics that could translate well into a movie.
But then we have to think who of the Batfamily will be in the movie. They will have to cut corners. They won’t put 4 previous Robins into the movie. 3 if Jason is dead. Not to speak about Orphan, Batgirl and Batwoman.
I do feel like skipping straight to Damian means missing out on some of the most iconic Batman moments and characters It’s easy to have Dick and Barbara in it but are they also going to have room for Tim, Cass or Stephanie? Are they going to do Red Hood and if so how?
@@jonasquinn7977 Maybe they'll redo the order of Robins and Damian will actually be the first one or one of the first Robins. Have the movie end in a way where Damian won't continue as a Robin and later introduce Jason, who Batman adopts because he misses working with his actual son.
Brave and the Bold I'm most excited for! Just because Bat-Dad is the best version of Batman for me. When he finally understands his role, morals, has friends he can depend on, is wiser, and experienced life on the brighter side. (Thanks to Alfred and Clark). The real excitement though are the four Robins we will potentially see!
I like that Gunn is hinting at letting filmmakers who like the characters and have a vision for them complete their vision and not just get in and complete a film based on a formula. That's risky but also when the best stories are told, when creatives gain most control.
It’s a good sign that Gunn makes such a point to highlight the comic book authors themselves, they tend to get shafted and only get relegated to a premiere invite. He did it with John Ostrander for TSS and I’m happy to hear him mention other ones here too
I haven't been this excited for anything Superhero related in a very long time. My Top 3 in terms of excitement right now would be: 1. Paradise Lost 2. Lanterns 3. The Authority
Never thought i'd say this. But i am back in! This looks so exciting honestly! It FINALLY feels like they're going to build something. And not only that, but building something completely their own and getting away from "can we do the marvel thing?" Sounds awesome!
I am so excited for booster gold, the more I think about it the more excited I am for it, for those who doesn't know booster gold I would recommend to watch the justice league unlimited episode "the greatest story never told" it depicts the character pretty well or just read the comics.Believe me it's worthy it
Hearing James talk about his decade long plan made me super excited :) glad to see the DC universe is getting the love and care it has deserved for years. I was always a DC fanboy as a kid, growing up on the cartoons mostly. However this shifted to Marvel due to a lack of great content that held continuity in the DC universe. The future is bright :) Looking forward to this.
I think there is confusion on Aquaman and Blue Beetle, but I think what was actually meant was similar to how Antman and The Wasp, Hawkeye ep. 5, Captain Marvel, etc. were handled It's still of the DCEU, those two movies take place around or before events of The Flash reset everything, and moving forward it is a totally clean slate.
Cool way to think about this universe. It’s like a mix of Insomniac’s Spider-Man, Insomniac’s Wolverine, and Camoflaj’s Iron Man VR (which is, btw, also connected, and that you should also totally check out on TH-cam) with the interconnectivity, the MCU with both the “Phase/Chapter” system for each set of films and the the choice of which characters they use for their universe (along with when they introduce them, as well), and then the DC Animated Movie Universe with which storylines they use for each film and when they use them. It’s like the perfect balance, basically!
26:21 I think James Gunn agrees with that more than anyone. He really emphasized that during his video, and of all the MCU directors, his are the movies that best accomplish the balance between perfectly fitting into a larger universe while being amazing standalone movies that don’t require a dozen movies worth of homework
Paradise Lost is being reported by some outlets as taking place 'before the Wonder Woman films' but the actual wording from Safran and Gunn was that it takes place before Diana's birth. There's just some misinterpretation by media outlets.
The only thing that scares me a little bit, is the introduction of two lesser known teams. There are examples of good and then the not ideal situations. James Gunn did it well in GotG and Suicide Squad 2, but then we also saw the recent release of Eternals which was not well received (I don't remember the reception of the first Suicide Squad movie, but I don't see a lot of hype around that either).
Using a cover from All Star Superman from Grant Morrison and Frank Quietly, using a cover from Batman & Robin by Grant Morrison and Frank Quietly, talking about Green Lantern being a cop drama like the recent series by Grant Morrison and Liam Sharpe. I wonder who James Gunn's favorite comic writer is. I haven't read an Authority stuff since they got sent into the DC continuity (I think Midnighter popped up for a bit in Grayson) so I have no idea how they fit in, the original runs from Ellis and Millar had some really great stuff.
Another great thing is that S&L will continue for one or two more seasons; by the time it ends the movie will be released; just like they’re doing with The Flash series and the movie.
This is a packed slate! "Booster Gold" is tailor-made for James Gunn, I think that'll be a fantastic fit! The way he and Safran describe Superman as a man with "kindness in a world that thinks that kindness as old-fashioned" (THR) is so refreshing to hear, and Supergirl being the darker counterpart to Kal-El sounds fascinating. "Lanterns" is so exciting to hear because we've been sorely lacking in GL content, and Paradise Lost seems like something lots of people will get into as well. "Batman: The Brave and the Bold" can lead to SO many fun possibilities because it means that we're finally getting a DCU with THE BAT-FAMILY, something I've always wanted to see in live-action. We've had a few great "Swamp Thing" adaptations but I bet this'll be great too, and possibly lead to JL: Dark with Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman and co. down the line. Creature Commandos and The Authority are teams I know nothing about, but I didn't know anything about the Guardians of the Galaxy either and I think those are some of the best comic books movies ever made (part 2 especially), so I'm open to it. It's the "Waller" show that confuses me the most, because it's the thing that's the most overtly connected to the old "DCEU", making me question it canonicity in the new continuity. Overall though, this is a great slate (assuming they stick to it) and I can't wait to see these characters come to life!
Perhaps i'm being cynical but 'Peacemaker' (and/or spin-offs) surviving the reset isn't surprising to me given that it features Gunn's wife. This may or may not be an indication of how seriously to take his "storytelling is everything" claim. Time will tell.
I feel the best thing that he ever said with this announcement is when he named it DC elseworld which I think is very good to say and this brand so basically they can have as many of the new Batman movies and the Joker films and they don't have to be connected because it's a different universe DC elseworlds is their version of Marvel's Multiverse which I think is a very good concept
Saying a Superman film feels generic is a fantastic thing to me bc we haven't had a proper Superman film in at least a decade, and people are starting to forget how important of a character he is.
It's probably we consider Superman the default superhero for all superheros. Making it 'boring' to portray him faithfully, while making it more 'interesting' to deconstruct his character as a cynical god-like bully.
@@theshlauf which is why it would be interesting to write him in a situation similar to superman Red sun. Where he realises the people he’s trying to save-humans, are just selfish, destructive, annoying, assholes and he has to justify why he even wants to be the cheerful ol’ boy-scout we all know.
@@henrygreen2096 Yeah I'd love so see that and more stories like All-Star Superman. Stories where he is a better person both inside and out, not just physically powerful.
The sad thing is they have a PERFECT new and comic book type superman they could use. The Superman and Lois show is amazing, and Tyler gives Reeves a run for his money as best Superman.
Brave and the Bold is exciting I just hope they establish that Dick Grayson is already nightwing and Jason Todd is dead, I also think it would be interesting if Tim is still Robin (but I doubt they will do that)
Apart from the well known characters The Authority is something i am looking forward to.. Its like The Boys but not that extreme, and They can take on Superman easily.. ❤
So far my only problem is that his favorite Robin is Damian but that's just an opinion Will just have to see how it goes, hopefully something good and maybe a few surprises here and there, who knows
I quite like the style they seem to be wanting to take with this in the future. From what it sounds like to me it seems like they're not trying to be Marvel but instead they're trying to be Star Wars. With a ton of different stories in different styles but still having them be connected in the same universe with a couple characters that carry over
Idk about Damien Wayne. I know a lot of people him. But I wanna see the other robins get some more love in Live Action. Like Dick Grayson becoming Nightwing. And we have not really gotten big screen versions of the big Batman stories like Killing Joke and A death in the Family, Under the Red Hood. I know those stories have been done a lot, but not on the Live Action big screen.
They said Brave and the Bold will establish the Bat family so I have to believe it will feature Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon at least, already as Nightwing and Batgirl. So we could still get some of those stories afterwards
The game part was definitely the most interesting to me. If they actually have games that are their own thing rather than adaptions and are canon to the wider universe with those characters occasionally showing up in other films or shows, that'd be really cool and unique. If that actually succeeds, I'd like to see Marvel eventually try something like that too. Also, I just really hope we get Orphan/Batgirl (Cassandra Cain) eventually. She's legitimately my favorite member of the Bat Family aside from Batman himself, so I would love to see her done justice in live action.
I can see aidan gallagher playing damian through his performance as five in umbrella academy. I think he plays the bloodthirsty but charismatic role very well and he's been very publi in his desires to play the role so I hope Gunn makes it happen. The only concern is that he might be too old.
He'll be too old by the time it comes around - the Superman movie is _planned_ for summer 2025 and the Batman movie followed that in the running order. Gallagher is 19 now and will be in his early 20s by then. Even given Hollywood "kid casting" rules that's _way_ too old to play a pre-pubescent boy. Unless they _substantially_ age up Damien - who's 10 at the start of Morrison's run - which for me loses a lot of the appeal of him as Robin.
I'm actually very intrigued by Gunn's decision to make a live action adaptation of The Authority, it's gonna be interesting to see them cross over with other DC films, like Apollo and Superman or Midnighter and Batman
I was glad to see a mix of the Batman and other characters I love as well as some adventurous choices. Hopeful that DCU gets better and we get enjoyable movies and shows. Great conversation!
Those 5 minutes single handedly gave me more faith in the 'main' movie continuity than the last 6 years has, with the exceptions of Shazam and his Suicide Squad
See, all of this looks really good. Despite all the different problems DC has right now, I'm glad that it's at least going in a good direction. However, given past let-downs I'm gonna wait till these projects actually come out to judge the DCU.
Its such a funny change from just a few years ago where WB and DC were basically refusing to admit there was a cohension problem with their expanded universe, to now James Gunn straight up opening with "yeah its been a fcking mess, we're finally gonna fix that now"
I don't know about the Batman and Robin movie. I love that comic run, but it works because Dick Grayson was Batman at the time. That way there was still light and dark in conversations between the two. Bruce and Damian will just be brooding competition.
It's so funny that people are loving this slate even though we don't know if it's gonna be good, this has happened every time they announce their "new" slate...
I always wanted this from MCU. A fully connected universe. Using the same actors for animated and gaming projects but also all in the same universe still. So glad this is happening for DCU. It’s cool they aren’t trying to be marvel. They are trying to do something different which is great.
I'm super excited for Woman of Tomorrow! Her origin in the show had her mostly grow up on Krypton as well, but I don't believe it was ever explored much, and the series mostly attempted to make her more similar to Superman. The comic (and hopefully the movie) takes a more careful look at how it would affect someone, having everyone and everything you ever knew destroyed, and needing to start over on a home not your own. It's definitely a different kind of refugee allegory than Superman's, but I would argue it's a little more compelling
As a marvel fan am soo fukin happy that were getting finally a structured universe as i love dc characters just the films suck. So hyped to hopefully enjoy both. Finally
Excited for some, not for others. I just honestly still don't understand the Cavill of it all. When it comes to Doom Patrol and Titans Gunn says "oh that was decided before us" yet with Cavill, it was decided previously that he was going to continue as Superman. So he talks out of both sides. And if Batman will have Damian, then he needs to be slightly older right? So older Batman, but getting rid of the perfectly aged Cavill to match with that Batman? Plus saying possibly keeping Momoa, Gadot etc? But not Cavill. Just seems like he's the one who got the worst end of it. But really excited for Swamp Thing, Lanterns etc.
Just because what the actor does in their personal life is bad doesn't mean the film itself will be. As a major flash fan I'm very excited to see it. Even if Ezra is cuckoo for coco puffs
@Isaiah all the bad shit aside he not a good flash he doesn't inbody the character of berry but the CW flash (grant) was way better but still not great
I've loved Booster Gold for a long time. His appearances in the animated stuff has always been fun, but I hated both live action versions of him so far. I really want to be hopeful for whatever they have planned here. Also really hoping to see some Red and Blue Lanterns show up with that GL show.
Does it really matter if certain actors are no longer playing their characters…we all know they could jump back in at any point because of one word- multiverse.

I do feel like skipping straight to Damian means missing out on some of the most iconic Batman moments and characters
It’s easy to have Dick and Barbara in it but are they also going to have room for Tim, Cass or Stephanie?
I’m happy they finally have a plan & James really seems to be passionate about it so I’m hyped & finally we’re getting green lantern content !
I like that Gunn is hinting at letting filmmakers who like the characters and have a vision for them complete their vision and not just get in and complete a film based on a formula. That's risky but also when the best stories are told, when creatives gain most control.
I’m quite intrigued for Brave And The Bold, Swamp Thing, And Lanterns.
It’s a good sign that Gunn makes such a point to highlight the comic book authors themselves, they tend to get shafted and only get relegated to a premiere invite. He did it with John Ostrander for TSS and I’m happy to hear him mention other ones here too
Aaron's spiral into existential crisis during the end card is killing me 😂
What a great idea to deliver the news this way, James Gunn being candid and 1-on-1 with the audience, vs showing us a bunch of logos on a timeline
Swamp Thing will be great if they include a bunch of practical effects since those are the best kinds of Horror movies
I haven't been this excited for anything Superhero related in a very long time.
My Top 3 in terms of excitement right now would be:
1. Paradise Lost
2. Lanterns
3. The Authority
Never thought I'd be the most excited for a super girl movie. I really enjoyed the comic it's going to be based off
Cant wait to see the new take on Damian Wayne as he is my fave Robin. Also Im intrigued by Creature Commandoes.
Would be crazy to see a DC Universe Online 2 some day with the coming DC combined movie/animated/game universe
Never thought i'd say this. But i am back in! This looks so exciting honestly!
It FINALLY feels like they're going to build something. And not only that, but building something completely their own and getting away from "can we do the marvel thing?"
Sounds awesome!
I am so excited for booster gold, the more I think about it the more excited I am for it, for those who doesn't know booster gold I would recommend to watch the justice league unlimited episode "the greatest story never told" it depicts the character pretty well or just read the comics.Believe me it's worthy it
I just think he is neat (btw stop saying chris pratt could play booster gold because he CAN'T)
James Gunn has given me hope again. I can’t wait for these!!
The future is bright :) Looking forward to this.
i think lanterns show is going to introduce us to whoever is the big bad guy of chapter 1 like Darkside or Brainiac
I think there is confusion on Aquaman and Blue Beetle, but I think what was actually meant was similar to how Antman and The Wasp, Hawkeye ep. 5, Captain Marvel, etc. were handled
It's still of the DCEU, those two movies take place around or before events of The Flash reset everything, and moving forward it is a totally clean slate.
Super excited for the future of dc for the first time in a while!!!
Happy to hear about Damian Wayne. I didn't read much of that series, maybe like the first 10 or so, but I remember wanting to see it on screen.
SO hyped for Swamp Thing
One thing I've noticed from DC is that they are now promoting the comics that inspired the movies. This is incredible.
"Story telling is all that matters!"
- James Gunn
I am gonna hold you to that! Remember I have you quoted here Mr. Gunn!
Very curious to the Damian casting. Sad no Static shock or Martian Manhunter tho
In time my friend, in time (I hope lol)
@@bhavin962 yeah I’m anxious to see the results. Things seem to be going great
I'm sure James will reveal more during SDCC. I hope so
He said it's not the entirely of the Chapter 1
@@jaealxndr ya man, I’m definitely excited and willing to give this a shot!
Paradise Lost is being reported by some outlets as taking place 'before the Wonder Woman films' but the actual wording from Safran and Gunn was that it takes place before Diana's birth. There's just some misinterpretation by media outlets.
I'm almost excited for this...almost
I remember watching swamp thing as a kid, I was pretty young, but I really enjoyed this monstrous character!
I'm so ready for Superman: Legacy
Wildstorm stuff is a surprise, love that series.
@@theshlauf that's awful
The sad thing is they have a PERFECT new and comic book type superman they could use. The Superman and Lois show is amazing, and Tyler gives Reeves a run for his money as best Superman.
Brave and the Bold is exciting I just hope they establish that Dick Grayson is already nightwing and Jason Todd is dead, I also think it would be interesting if Tim is still Robin (but I doubt they will do that)
Apart from the well known characters The Authority is something i am looking forward to.. Its like The Boys but not that extreme, and They can take on Superman easily.. ❤
Lmao Aaron going into deep thoughts after what Eric said at 46:19
So far my only problem is that his favorite Robin is Damian but that's just an opinion
Will just have to see how it goes, hopefully something good and maybe a few surprises here and there, who knows
I quite like the style they seem to be wanting to take with this in the future. From what it sounds like to me it seems like they're not trying to be Marvel but instead they're trying to be Star Wars. With a ton of different stories in different styles but still having them be connected in the same universe with a couple characters that carry over
this plan definitely sounds cool, i'm especially excited to see Damien Wayne in live action, one thing I would really like to see, is a Grifter movie
This lineup is giving me hope for Animal Man and Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld.
I only want a movie about The titans, it's really difficult a movie with Robin, Starfire, Raven, beast Boy and Cyborg?
I'm actually very intrigued by Gunn's decision to make a live action adaptation of The Authority, it's gonna be interesting to see them cross over with other DC films, like Apollo and Superman or Midnighter and Batman
I was glad to see a mix of the Batman and other characters I love as well as some adventurous choices. Hopeful that DCU gets better and we get enjoyable movies and shows. Great conversation!
Those 5 minutes single handedly gave me more faith in the 'main' movie continuity than the last 6 years has, with the exceptions of Shazam and his Suicide Squad
Am really excited as a dc fan rn
See, all of this looks really good. Despite all the different problems DC has right now, I'm glad that it's at least going in a good direction. However, given past let-downs I'm gonna wait till these projects actually come out to judge the DCU.
Didn't even know this happened, cool!
YEEESS! Was waiting for this :)
Kid who plays 5 in Umbrella Academy would be a decent Damien Wayne.
Awesome video. Did my whole treadmill climb to it
Its such a funny change from just a few years ago where WB and DC were basically refusing to admit there was a cohension problem with their expanded universe, to now James Gunn straight up opening with "yeah its been a fcking mess, we're finally gonna fix that now"
These will be pure unadulterated comic book fun and I aint mad about it
The Penguin series is starting filming next week in nyc, and Pattinson just landed there.
I don't know about the Batman and Robin movie. I love that comic run, but it works because Dick Grayson was Batman at the time. That way there was still light and dark in conversations between the two. Bruce and Damian will just be brooding competition.
The guy who plays Homelander will make an amazing Booster Gold
Hes probably too old but I’d love to see Aidan Gallagher (Five from Umbrella Academy) for Damian.
🤣🤣😂 Aarons, "damn" was from his soul 46:23
OMG Eric's shirt is the MOST!!
@Nicegram-Me-Blind-Wave-Page I gay or somethin?
Jensen Ackles as Batman. That's my crazy hope.
I can't wait for a comic book accurate Superman in a live action movie
Finally
It would be cool to see gunn announce a wildcat and spectre projects
I'm excited for it all but I'm also fairly meh on most of it but THE LANTERNS gave me CHILLS. Can. Not. WAIT for Lanterns.
Same. Mostly "meh" with some "Huh, interesting" and one or two "Yep, definitely wanna see".
Iam so hyped for all of this!
Edit: except for Flash (I hope he gets a recast)
Just because what the actor does in their personal life is bad doesn't mean the film itself will be. As a major flash fan I'm very excited to see it. Even if Ezra is cuckoo for coco puffs
@@isaiah6912 oh absolutely! Iam also a huge fan of the character, but the actor doesn't seem like a good fit in the long run imo.
@Isaiah all the bad shit aside he not a good flash he doesn't inbody the character of berry but the CW flash (grant) was way better but still not great
@@TheReDeeMeR1988it’s the business of the people Ezra harassed and the Justice system.
Hey Siri, set a reminder for July, 11 2025, Superman: Legacy
It's awesome to see how many things he's got in the works and everything looks super cool. Let's see if he can execute.
24:24 i imagine that what it might (or most likely what DC is implying) is that, that show or movie (paradise lost) takes place before this new wonder woman
Still sad about the batgirl movie. Hopefully they can still use the footage to fit the new story
I just hope Swamp Thing opens the door for Zatanna, Constantine and Deadman with the Dark Mystical side of the DCU
