I've been saving this video, waiting for the right time to watch yall talk about my favourite show so far this year. Now its take on such a different feeling. Rest in Peace Benny, we love ya
Great discussion guys, but I do have a bone to pick. The idea that Wolverine under Claremont was "just there" is pure revisionist history. Wolverine BECAME a superstar under Claremont! He rescued the rest of the X-Men multiple times, either with his indomitable will that allowed him to be the first to escape imprisonment, or with his senses to guide them to safety. He also had several solo issues where he was the focus, and even the narrator! 133, 162, 172-173 were explicitly an epilogue to his solo mini, 205, 251. And there were many more where he played a large role. I get that people who aren't the biggest Wolverine fans hate that most regular people think of him as "The X-Man," but that doesn't mean we should pretend that he's insignificant in the comics, the comics are the reason he became popular in the first place.
I'm with Sal and Hussan-I loved the pacing and that each episode was significant. As for the Motendo episode, it definitely wasn't my favorite but it also felt like an important part of the arc for the audience in signaling "yeah, we can't stay here in the comfortable, nostalgic, filler episode world." I couldn't believe (and was so psyched) to see the Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix setup! I was talking about it earlier when they had Nathan, never expecting them to bring it in! Also, love the episodes where you all really love what you're talking about. ❤
I honestly loved the show and my son as well, he’s seven years old, and had little experience with marvel past some comic books, so when he saw a show about super heroes who have insane powers he immediately latched on. He loved how the show went, he was on the edge of his seat each week and when he’d come home Wednesday he would immediately want to watch the show after his homework. Its a great show for all ages and it really continues the feels of nostalgia while upping the factor in all departments. (Also daredevil does speak to cloak and dagger after getting out of the broken window)
Benny's wrong about the animation. It's amazing and stands toe to toe with big anime hitters, and wears its anime influence on its sleeve. He has a problem with the art style, and I really wish people wouldn't conflate character design and animation.
I enjoyed the Motendo episode because of what it symbolizes. The point of the episode is to show that the show is about to take a new path from the original series
@@thoarnejones6805 cyclops never acted like magneto tho. at no point did he want mutant supremacy or mutants to murder humans. all he ever wanted was mutants to stand up to oppression.
I get that you guys are nit-picking…. I loved every moment. I got sucked in. Even the Motendo episode, seeing Jubilee turn 18 and see what her future powers could be like was cool!
We just need a continuation of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes! Christos Gage literally wrote out a season of ideas and it tied into Wolverine and the X-Men. Spider-Man continuing is the one though.
@@kadegetslaid634 It’s honestly not popular enough, but as far as shows that have the most potential where a continuation makes sense after X-Men ‘97, it’s EMH.
@@DanV900 definitely, especially since it's in the same continuity as spectacular spidedman and all the other yostverse shows and movies, more potential than the 90s universe
@@kadegetslaid634 EMH wasn’t in the same continuity as Spectacular Spider-Man. Josh Keaton was just supposed to be a cool nod until he was replaced by Drake Bell honestly. Greg Weisman himself said this 2 years ago. “We felt the Avengers didn't yet exist. The FF did. Hulk was considered a myth. Ant Man existed, but no one knew about him yet. Tony hadn't been injured; Thor hadn't found his hammer, and Cap was still frozen.” Then in 2010, he said he had nothing to do with EMH since he was working on Young Justice. EMH’s ending was meant to tie into the beginning of Wolverine and the X-Men where it does have more potential than the 90s universe. Yost said it was supposed to be the same Spider-Man from Spectacular Spider-Man, but Weisman wasn’t on the same page as him.
@DanV900 ah had no idea! I always thought it was in the same universe as spectacular congirmed, still my headcannon but it's cool to know what they were doing thanks for telling me
Motendo was such an important episode. It signified moving on from the original show and not letting nostalgia hold you or the show back. It had something to say it wasn't just a dumb one off.
I strongly disagree with benny on this one. I prefer if they just reference the arcs, i dont care for two episodes of goblin queen, one and done was perfect for me. ❤
Well, not everyone read the comics and probably would prefer major story beats to be fleshed out/paced better. One episode was absolutely not enough for the amount of drama they tried to milk out of Pryor later.
Just binged the show yesterday and it was awesome, loved every minute of it. I actually really enjoyed the Motendo short. Also, did you catch the reversal of the bit they did in the first Fox movie? I had to pause it and scream in my pillow.
The only major complaint I have with X-Men '97 is just the speed at which things happened. It definitely felt like there were times where important information was dropped and then we were on to the next thing, or we didn't get to sit with the fallout of another thing for just a little bit longer. Add 3 more episodes, perhaps there would have been a bit more time for everything. Still, this is a fantastic start to a new show while also being a phenomenal continuation of the original show.
Frankly if they ever did a new avengers show, they need to set it in this same universe, but build it off the back of Earth’s Mighiest Heroes, the best avengers show we ever got.
Benny being close to middle age doesn't shock me because he's one of those TH-camrs I've been following for well over 10 years at this point and many people when they start blowing up on this site were in their twenties and thirties
Did you guys forget about the actual Spidey cameo in episode like episode 7? Lmao. We see Spidey and Peter in this show along with MJ and Flash Thompson. Rick Jones is also behind them in a car. I think the Black Panther thing is weird because he was already an established as T'Challa in the 90s series of FF and DeMayo claims it was a decision by Marvel to make him use T'Chaka. Regardless, this show is Marvel at its best. The animation for fight scenes is outstanding but when they're just standing around just like in anime, its choppy and unimpressive which is fine. I dont need super expressive animation when theyre talking as long as the dialogue is strong and art style is good. Which the artsyle is great. I think its a perfect way to not blow your budget up.
Usually I don't mind spoilers, but I think this time I will come back after I've watched '97. I was trying to watch the original series again, but I might just rewatch the parts I loved then get into this. I finished season 1, it just feels like it will take forever and I really want to watch '97.
