I will say as someone with an extensive Steam library but not enough money to upgrade my system, GFN seems to be tailored to me specifically. If you are allready a long time PC gamer, being able to play games you allready own at high level of detail is brilliant and not something either competitor offers. The idea of not having many free games was not even something I considered as a problem, because quite frankly, I did consider it at all. That being said I am in the GFN "Founders tier" which is less than 60€ a year (so roughly 5€ per month) with all the same features as priority tier, so the value is also a lot better for me.
@@Doragon86 Content is King! And that was my only issue with Stadia. So it didn't matter how smooth it was or the features you couldn't find anywhere else because in the end I bought a PS5 to play the games that wasn't coming so I get it.
GeForce now never claimed to be a the best value for your dollar. It’s the best streaming service to experience the highest pc graphics without the need for a console. Let’s stop trying to compare this to a console that can barely do 4K 60.
Xbox and NVIDIA just announced a partnership to bring there games to Geforce Now for the next 10 years. As well as Activision Blizzard games if the deal goes through
I've tried GFN recently with a day access plan, and i've never encountered any issue with it, i was actually surprised with how good it performs in terms of visual and latency. The framerate are solid, the resolution even though not as crisp as the local experience, but for a cloud service it's pretty impressive. FYI, i was using my PC with a wired connection. I noticed that the UI from your video is different. So, i assume the UI for the mobile version and desktop is different. Because on PC, even though it's not great, but it's good enough. I think GFN is great for people who mainly on consoles and don't own a PC, but wants to play PC games for 1-2 days, a week or a month. It's should never be the MAIN PLATFORM for gaming. Definitely not the kind of service that you commit for 6 months or yearly subscription plan. I agree that as of now it's an optional thing. People who wants to jump into gaming and plans to play regularly, consoles or PC are the better investment.
I have an XBOX and PS5 and I was about to pull the trigger on a new PC build for a few games I want to play, but before I decided to drop the $1,500 I bought a month of GFN Ultimate and I'm blown away by the performance. I will say that I do have pretty good internet (300/30) and am hardwired, but I'll be hanging onto my cash and paying for the convenience. Another factor to consider is depending on how much one games you can blow through $17 worth of electricity easily (in the US, anyway) with how much power some of these gaming rigs consume while my M1 mac just sips energy. Everyone should definitely look at their own individual situation, but I'm definitely a fan of GFN for the time being.
I actually played Geforce now on my Series S prior to building my Gaming PC last year; I primarily used it to learn how to use keyboard and mouse. I played the pc versions of games I already liked on console like: the half life series, Left 4 Dead series, Killing Floor 2 and Battlefield 4. It was a decent experience and I recommend it for individuals who want to learn or experience k&m in the games that it's not available on console/xbox.
gfn is so easy to use and even with my Mac air I get 60 frames but I can tell a difference with the 4080 with the extra frames with less contolller lag also games still look amazing with max settings I love how I can play on my tv and my 8k Samsung tablet u can setup so u don't have to sign every time as well its so easy to do to
I've been using GFN Ultimate subscription for a while and haven't experienced most of these problems. Tbf, I am using a wired connection rather than a wireless one (and just to note, your network test graphic indicated you were using 2.4Ghz WiFi, which isn't ideal even with a WiFi 6 router), but the stream quality is superb. On the rare occasions I've experienced lag/stuttering, some simple diagnostics have demonstrated the issue is with my ISP and not GFN. For the most part, I'm able to use GFN with a consistent latency of only 6ms and 0 packet loss for hours on end. I don't benefit from some of the bells and whistles of Ultimate. I either use my Nvidia Shield or my laptop for GFN, neither of which supports 120FPS 4K. I can only get 60FPS 1080p out of my laptop, and 60FPS 4K out of my Shield but I'm not particularly fussed about that anyway. On the PC desktop GFN client, it is possible to see an alphabetical list of every title available via GFN (and was before the desktop client refresh a few months back), although personally, I think it's just easier to type a title into the search bar to check its availability. On the subject of available games, I'm kinda fortunate in that GFN caters well to the majority of the titles I'm interested in and have no other way to play or wouldn't want to play them on a console. Baldur's Gate 3, for example. I've been playing the Early Access through GFN and having a lot of fun with it. I wouldn't want to play that game on a console, though. I've even considered buying a keyboard and mouse just for my Shield so I can give it a go in 4K on the TV. In general, over the past year, I'd say 90% of the time, when I've checked if a game I'm interested in is available via GFN, it has been there. I do appreciate there are some pretty big titles missing, such as RDR2, the Call of Duty games, etc. That doesn't bother me because I'm not that interested in those games, but I fully understand that it's a big black mark against GFN for others. While it's great for me and my perhaps more niche tastes, it's not going to be very satisfying for others. Ultimately, however, that's a decision made by publishers who think that they should somehow be financially rewarded by Nvidia for operating a platform that lets people play their games. When you talk about licences, that's not really how GFN works. They have a couple of agreements but largely, their platform is open to any publisher that wants to make their game(s) available on GFN. A lot of publishers don't because they don't see a revenue stream for them. Compared to Game Pass? This is definitely a YMMV thing. I've had Game Pass subscriptions from time to time, mostly when I was using my Xbox One a lot. Truth be told, while there were a few games on Game Pass that I enjoyed, most of the games on there didn't appeal to me, and the ones that did, I usually already owned. It wasn't really worth a tenner a month to me, whereas GFN is worth £89 every six months because I do get the value out of it even if I have to buy the games separately. When it comes to the cloud gaming aspect, Game Pass/XCloud is, in my experience, appalling. While playing on GFN, the stream quality is so good it looks no different than playing on a local device. Cloud gaming on Game Pass very much looks like a stream - a glitchy, blocky stream that regularly drifts between 480p and 1080p, lacks sharpness, and stalls constantly. This is because my connection to Microsoft's servers is crap for some reason. My latency is regularly higher than 35ms, and I'm suffering from quite severe packet loss issues. As a value proposition, it wouldn't matter if Game Pass offered 1 game or 50,000. It's simply unplayable. I don't have that problem with GFN, and when I tried out Shadow PC, I didn't have that issue either.
I spend £90 per year on GFN Priority by paying for 6 months at a time. So that would be £630 over 7 years. As I tend to play individual games for 200+ hours, the number of games I buy is small, making the outlay on Steam low, especially when I only buy on sale with at least 50% off. I might spend £80 a year on games. Even with Game Pass I would probably have to do this as I'm very picky with games. So for me GFN is the lowest cost option. I also play across an upstairs and downstairs PC and mobile easily with GFN and take gaming on holiday with me via laptop or mobile, so there's more convenience. What option is better for me? Happy to be persuaded if I can do better elsewhere.
You are the exception that proves the rule I would think, and regardless of the positives of another service, your particular way of gaming would not be complimented as well by any other service. The 6 month option I completely missed and it does change the conversion a bit so thanks for pointing that out. For gamers like me, it probably still results in the same conclusion, but isn't that difference the beauty of life?
Yeah I suppose every use case is different. And my circumstances or gaming patterns might change in future, in which case I can always look at other options. We're lucky to have so many choices.
@@reheyesd8666not just the GPU but the rest of the components that provide the level of performan from Geforce now. Their processor alone is worth 5,000 dollars as they use AMD Ryzen Threaddrippers to power their rigs. Calculate the cost of their rig and Geforce now is very compelling because you get the latest hardware every year
It just frustrates me how so many greedy publishers prefer to opt out...... and if cloud gaming were to take off, you know damn well they would invest in their own service, I sure hope GFN will become Steam of cloud gaming in the future, its just that good, not perfect, but very good, not saying cloud gaming should be the future, hell no, but should be a great necessity for gaming at least.
Been using gfn for a while on priority tier via an android tablet, had no issues with wait times amazed by the quality, miles ahead of game pass and a interface that allows me to easily see what games are available, including all games in alphabetical order.
You should definitely have more subscribers. The only thing I get annoyed with is that nobody shows what their test results are when doing to connection test to GFN servers. because some people say it lags or has bad compression but the results show that they have high latency to the servers so they should not expect a great experience.
Honestly I've never had those issues. So somebody having that issue is there area it won't be the same everywhere so that test wouldn't matter unless it was at your house. My problem is there are not enough AAA games I owned almost all of the AAA games but they're not allowed to be played
the sound just started sounding distorted out of nowhere for me, otherwise the image and all is always pristine, any idea how to fix this, can't find anything online smh xcloud works fine/sound has no issues, streaming through the app on Android/samsung phone btw
If you play on the free or mid tier. You get limited latency by design. You buy the $99.00 for 6 months. You get 20ms gaming and all the other goodies. All without having to buy a $1,500.00 video card..
I just recently started using geforce now again and i have to say it works great. Subscription price is a little steep especially since i only use it for pc games that aren't on console. Just needs more access to games and it needs to recognize more 4k devices as none of my devices seem to allow geforce to select 4k. I also like how i can use it anywhere from my phone, tab, xbox, firestick, etc. Yes it works on firestick using an apk and it works flawlessly, that is on the 4k and 4k max firestick as i haven't tried the old 1080 versions. Geforce now is moving in the right direction though because in the beginning it was booty and now i love it, just not the price per month.
Just signed up for the ultimate tier this month. All the games in my list are available to play and load times are plenty fast and Im getting avg 120 fps on most games but I am missing not getting to play in 4k on the ultimate plan considering I have a 4k 144hz monitor and that is the only downside for me currently.
I gave up my gaming PC a couple years ago and purchased a Mac (I know, I’m a loser). Haven’t been playing anything but Switch however I recently got the 6 months of GeForce now to play my PC library on my MacBook. Priority tier. Very impressed so far. I am running Wi-Fi 275 down, 11 up. Not sure about ping. Graphics are great, input latency is very good, overall super solid. I experienced cloud gaming on my Shield TV years ago and it was damn-near unplayable. Now, it’s a great experience. I’m a solo player mostly, would not recommend for competitive shooters for obvious reasons.
I've just got priority. 1080 at 60fps is fine by me. It's a shame companies don't let all their games in it. I find it hard to justify buying a decent gaming laptop for £1000+
Crazy, answering the question is it worth buying GFN, maybe it's worth comparing a PC for $2k not an old console, 60 frames on PS5? have you ever played? More like 30fps on medium graphics settings.
This was very insightful and I agree with your thoughts on the 4080, while as impressive as it is you still need the hardware to receive the visuals which to display 240 frames per second that will cost you a nice penny. And I probably wouldn't be able to stand all the extra signing in and out.
You need those same things with any 4K you can't get 4k let alone 120 frames per second if you don't have the equipment so that should not be factored in at all. That doesn't change depending on what console you're using
All games is at the bottom with the genres at least it is on my shield TV and my later shield TV pro and there used to be more games before Google started off the exclusivity rights but honestly the beta was much better as you could just launch steam and play anything essentially and it was free with instant gaming and unlimited length sessions
Slight correction, I've connected my Ubisoft account to gfn and for certain games like riders Republic, and rainbow six siege still had my data from stadia.
It's nice to see someone assessing it from a general gamer viewpoint. I have an 8th gen console and this seems to do nothing more than what that does unless you're paying stupid money. I'll be avoiding it, thanks for helping me decide
Service seems great for people with aged PC's but a library of games to play/take advantage of the benifits. Grab a bigger title like Cyberpunk on sale but can't really see the bells and whistles, a month of this would be good. A full constant year seems pointless unless you really are just getting that much out of it or don't have any other devices to use.
Been using it for a year via wifi, never tried ethernet. Experience has mostly been very good. When Wifi drops to 2.4 Ghz things go bad.. so I toggle 5 Ghz and force a reconnect. This is due to my own hardware not being up to scratch. A 5 year old entry level laptop with poor modem, and a bog standard Wifi router from Sky. Only about 80 Mb connection. So I’d imagine with an upgraded modem or laptop, and better router I will have zero issues.
The best cloud gaming service. I have been using it for almost 2 years and I love it. I have been using the free plan most of the time and still enjoy playing my games. I mean 1 hour session for free is generous. Can’t complain.
GFN 4080 Tier atleast (all I've tried) is phenomenal. I couldn't believe how good it was. Many services have figured out how to make it look decent. But I've not until GFN, experienced one that FELT how it was supposed to. I've noticed it seems to help when I use a PC that has an Nvidia card of some kind in it, better decomp i assume. I just bought a new PC lately as well. Had I known that GFN was as good as it has been for me, I probably wouldve held off on buying it. I very much agree that some sort of CROSSSAVE system needs to be developed. I do agree the whole system of it, is not quite there yet. But the bones of it are pretty amazing. I can stream a game from GFN with better latency than my own LAN...
my only gripe with geforce now is the lack of some games, for instance non of the from software games are on it, mortal kombat 1 is missing, no rockstar support so no gta or red dead and yes that means no gta 6 too. however, im absoulty amazed by geforce now, my laptop struggles withalot of games, i cant afford to buy an xbox so geforce now allows me to play call of duty at 4k 60 fps at max settings with dlss on quality and i can play loads of gamepass games too. its incredible. i know the 8 hour session limit is a bummer, but to be fair, i dont play games for 8 hours anyway, i only game for 2 hours if im lucky. i work a very demanding job so me time is rare
Daragon, your tablet is connected to 2,4GHz network, that's why you have problems with lagging (despite using WiFi 6). Force your iPad to connect and stay with 5GHz and test again
It has been tried my friend Changed nothing I'm sorry to say. Plus if the service cannot operate under standard consumer conditions as per my testing, the service has no right being on the market. I go into all these points a bit more in my Boosteroid review
@@Doragon86 personally I use it for casual games with my girlfriend (overcooked and it takes two) without any issues. I also tried to play in Cyberpunk and it's ok as long as you don't put too high graphic settings
@@Jacek-g7d it has some huge positives and I understand they can outweigh the negatives for them. For me, it just missed the mark somewhat, which with how good the general game experience is, probably made it more disappointing
@@Doragon86 " if the service cannot operate under standard consumer conditions as per my testing, the service has no right being on the market." you are a complete IDIOT!
they gave android a UI parity to be the same as on PC, tho I am unsure if its just im the beta version or not. I am in the beta version, so you can check that out. This fixes the "we need to download additional data" issue, enables you to see all games (by using the search function, typing a letter and deleting it again.) So the UI issues with android should have been fixed by now
They are adding all the Microsoft games tomorrow from xbox and pc games pass - 10 year deal with MS struck and will include AV if MS buy it = THIS IS GOING TO BE EPIC! I play it on a Mac Mini. I had a PC with a 3060 in but it was just too dam loud. I like silence when I play. In regards to the loading I think the new update has slowed loading down - I am also on a 1Gbps connection (private, dedicated) but they do have 25 million members so all in all - not bad and faster than say Blizz was with WOW (which will also be there if MS buy them)
I query who will purchase an Xbox studio's game for use on GFN after 7 years of Gamepass telling them they don't need to buy games, especially with the poor quality of many of the recent Xbox Studio's titles. Big ask when Xbox gamers, on console, PC and cloud have been conditioned to not buy games by the company providing them. Loading wise, the update since I made this video has made it far worse and I'd clamour for what I called slow in this video back haha 😂
I saw you had Tekken 7 on GeForce now. How is this possible? I thought Tekken 7 wasn't available on GeForce Now. Or I'm I wrong? Because I couldn't find it in Geforce Now as a Geforce Now subscriber member.
In my country nvidia partnered with a local carrier, they claim on their website it can be played with any 5g or fiber connection but when you go to sign up they only give you options to sign up through their network. And I cant even find any information on how to register if I dont use their network. Smh
I find myself to be something of a minority, as I don't really need good graphical fidelity (think more recently real time ray tracing) to enjoy a game. My jaw basically drops if a game looks anything better than half life 1 or GTA3. But I am considering cloud gaming for the following of reasons. 1) I own an Nvidia shield tv pro from 2015, one of the most capable devices for media consumption ever made, with what are essentially the same innards as a Nintendo switch. I also have it on direct Ethernet connection to my net router and fibre net provider, perfect set up to play some cloud games. 2) I've been a pc gamer up to this point and I still game on what was a top spec I5 Ivy bridge machine that I built new in 2012. Newer games I'm looking forward to on the pc are the ports of returnal and the last of us 1. Whilst no doubt mechanically they are fun to play, it doesn't look like these will run on my now decade old warhorse no matter how many graphical options I turn to low. For some perspective, my machine can run doom eternal and control natively very smoothly at 60fps + 1080p with a mix of mid-high settings. 3) Console exclusives. I've missed out on quite a few of these over time whilst sticking to my PC gaming guns (the George Gillette style business model of console hardware and software buying & selling isn't something I'm ok with for various reasons I won't go into here) so I'm curious to discover what I've missed out on, games are takimg a very long time to get PC ports (last of us, Halo MCC, uncharted etc) cloud gaming via subscription has potential to scratch this particular itch. Ideally I'd be after - for a set monthly fee - access to a healthy back catalog inclusive of console exclusives, with (a) native app(s) that can be used on the Nvidia shield tv pro. Thanks for doing this video, it has shown GeForce now to be unviable for this situation. Based on my findings so far, at the time of writing the service that offers close to what I want is xcloud through Xbox game pass ultimate, though there is no native app that can be used on the shield without some funky side loading. And as for PS plus... You basically have to remote to a PC then run through that, add to that, they have timed playtimes on the more recent exclusive AAA releases (last of us, god of war, returnal etc). Shame, clouding on the shield could have been perfect. Maybe if Microsoft, Sony and Nvidia could collaborate, (run their games on Nvidia's clearly good infrastructure for example), that would be ideal, but I don't think that is going to happen. EDIT: not long after writing that last paragraph, I only just found out about the very recent (at the time of writing) deal to bring Microsoft Xbox PC games to GeForce now... Based on what I could find it is still in the early days of the deal and things are still getting ironed out as I scribble this. Details are still iffy as to whether this will allow game pass subscribers to use the service, combined with whether there will be console exclusives available, or whether even 2 subscription fees will have to be paid, (one for GeForce now, one for gamepass)... Time will indeed tell!
Console only gamer here, can someone guide me on proper steps to use GForce Now? I have never heard of this service not ever knew it existed. Not sure why I’ve never seen it advertised on IGN/GameSpot or anywhere else? I own a PS5/Series X and an older iMac plus a new MacBook and a new Mac Mini. Thanks
My computer needs a upgrade that I can't afford, so I can play Baldurs gate3, so GFN works for me. Being retired I would like to play more tha 8 hours a day my only problem.
I’m with them from beginning and lots of people was hanging dogs on them. And lots of people’s like wasn’t believing in this service. FHD got 240fps. I got founders ultimate never wait in queue. Not need sign every time you got this in setting in app. Make update lots change. Playing COD 3 on multiplayer
Luna is okay, Xcloud is Great, Stadia was better... But GFN is my favorite because I can play my PC Games with no download... For Xcloud we have to download the PC Games on a PC which sucks but on the Cloud they have some Good Games.... If Xcloud stops downtown PC Games and Let's us play them on any device it be my favorite...
Totally subjective to you here my friend. The Steam Deck is an amazing bit of kit that runs a lot of steam titles in a handheld form factor, you can also get most of the other cloud gaming services and remote play services running on it. If this is something that suits you, and you don't already have other devices that can do similar/the same, then it might be worth investing in a Steam Deck
Its been great for getting back into gaming, but all roads are definitely leading to a PS5. The 4080 upgrade may postpone that but I want to play spiderman!
Content is king and if another platform offers that content that you want, then the only sensible option for your own enjoyment is to follow that trail, wherever it may take you
Its always what U want and what U expect. I have a Macbook Air and would love to play some games, i have the Xbox Series X and wanted to return to Destiny 2. For this the the service is perfect. its like 10Eur per month, If I would buy some laptop with 3050 TI would cost me 750Eur, so It would need at least 6 years, not including electricity and other things. Also I've tested some gaming laptops and they are quite loud. So I think that the price is kinda fair, but could be lower. Still there are some drawbacks. First you need some really fast internet, cable or 5Ghz, secondly not all games in Steam are playable in GFN, third issue was but this is fixed, when logging you need to internet username and pwd and copy paste doesnt natively work, but there is a way using steam app. In 2023 its a decent service, but as mentioned the price could be lower.
It has literally made no difference for me. I have a dual band network as nearly every UK household does, the frequency is set to roam to offer the best possible connection and speeds at that moment in time for that particular device, this is the standard set up of all consumer ISP's over here. The majority of gamers are either not going to know they can change the frequency of the network, know how to change their frequency, or do not want to as a paid for cloud based service should just work as the likes of Netflix have informed the paying public. As this is how most consumers will use the service, it is how my testing and review was approached, so I could offer thoughts for those not in the ultra niche of gamers like say you or I. If one of the biggest profile cloud gaming providers cannot operate under these very standard consumer conditions, the exact people they are trying to sell the service to, then it is a service provider issue not a consumer issue.
I got the free tier about 5 hours ago just to try out everything before i buy any tiers. I just want to try playing a singleplayer game i cant run however for the past 5 hours I've been stuck in a long queue. I just want to try it out 😅
Update: i got in and started up my game only for the session to immediately end. Screw this service it doesn't even look worth it im not waiting in another queue of 260 people just for this to happen again.
@@Doragon86 another up date i purchased it and it's honestly not that bad all things considered only thing i dont like is not being able to use any mods on games like project zomboid or ark but other then that? Not bad.
I don’t have your experience at all. I have 100 mbps download on wifi 6 and my games load in 20 seconds most times and very rarely do I get stuttering. It also plays most games I want to play. I am using the top tier though on a 4080 which I think works better than the mid tier and free tier. Since I started on the mid tier.
Not only are you wrong you're doing it on purpose. You never once factored in the price of paying for PS5. You don't have to buy equipment the play GeForce now at all.
Imagine if I had an entire section of the video dedicated to the difference in cost of Ultimate vs console over a 7 year console lifespan. Imagine if that section included the cost of the console, the consoles subscription service and still came out cheaper than GFN ultimate at the end of it! Oh yeah.... I did! Rewatch the video without the fan boy bias and hopefully you'll actually pick up on the points I'm making, which both of your comments actually reinforce. Thanks for stopping by and watching 🙂
Hard to complain about no games when GFN supports over 100 freetoplay titles... AND Epic Games gives out AAA games for nothing. They gave me GTA5 for freebies 😎👍
I personally can't recomend it. GeForce now does not have enough games, and most of the games it supports (if not all) don't really need a high end System.
I hate to mention this, but I will as I also thought the same, there isn't 24 ftp games, there are about 150 or something but that absolutely horrible UI you talked about is the reason you see only the small amount. You actually have to search the word free to see them 🤣 yes it's a joke.
By the way, I am pretty sad about your review on GFN but not surprised. I tried it myself in desperation upon Stadia's closure really wanting to be blown away but the visuals and overall experience and I just wasn't, even with the 3080 tier it wasn't as smooth as Stadia for gameplay. I was gutted actually and now I have no real alternative other than GFN. God I hope it changes things up.
Have you tried Xcloud or PS Plus Premium? Xcloud is $1 for the month at the moment and is a great option to try out something similar but different enough
@@Doragon86 I haven't tried either, I guess I was hoping Luna would step up the visuals as well as come to the UK. it's probably the closest thing to Stadia left really, although this channels crap without being able to purchase a game separately is a no no for me. I'm sure there are many people feeling a bit orphaned now. As you mentioned, GFN isn't a platform at all, it's a service. It doesn't have achievements, friends list and all the other platform stuff you'd associate with a console like experience. You also mentioned the lack of store front regarding GFN and you know what the biggest annoyance there is, it used to have one! Yes all the games were once hosted or pre installed on the grid (as it was then) servers just like stadia. No logging in, just hit play and go. XCloud is no good for me as I only want to play on my telly, it doesn't work for Android TV, I expect Sony's offering is the same. I actually haven't played at all since the Stadia announcement 🤷♂️
tbh the thing i find that sucks about geforce now is the rig thing there is always 200+ or 500+ people in the rig it ruins the of using it cuz one of my friends had to wait 7 hours cuz they had they use the free thing cuz they didnt have enough money
ya that means its being patched. for some reason even a simple update can take days to clear on geforce now. i think they have to update that particular game on all thier servers. so imagine modern warfare 3 gets a 30 gb update. thats a long time waiting.
The 4080 is literally 5 times faster than the PS5... this comparison is kinda dumb. Yes the PS5 is cheaper over 7 years but the ultimate tier is cheaper than buying an actual $1200 4080, and after 2 years you're upgrading to a 5080 then 4 years a 6080. That's going to be at least $3000 worth of hardware right there. It's not a comparison IMO.
That is a minute demographic though MiraPloy, top 1-5% of people who'd upgrade a GPU that fast. The majority of Steam users are on a 1060 or 1660 still, at which point the comparison of the Ultimate tier to even a physical 4080 is a hard one to make, especially with compatibility and the need to still buy the games. A Series X or PS5 in the example I purported also comes with an inclusive library of games as the example includes the platform subscription service. As I specifically said in the video, for the overwhelming majority of gamers the home console just makes more sense, hence the comparison. That's not to say that GFN Ultimate doesn't make more sense for some gamers, or feels incomparable to anything else, they are however a minority
Thank you for this considered review. I was testing the free version last night because I wanted a viable way of playing Destiny 2 on the road. It was ok for general bounties run, but I don't it will think hold up in more intense activities. It was better than PS remote play for my PS copy of Destiny 2, but it is nowhere near as responsive as playing natively on the console. Steam also didn't like my DS4 controller and that took some fiddling. Oddly enough all my other games play just fine on PS Remote Play so I don't think it was the connection. Might just look into getting a Steam Deck and loading Windows on it for my PC games instead. GFN only had parts of my Steam library and was disappointed that the Epic store games did not show at all.
Always online games can be challenging via remote play. I have run dungeons and master content on the road with Destiny via GFN and remote play with no problems but it's all down to connection at the time. A steam deck may be the perfect option given your circumstances
I've never had to do anything specific to get it working other than ensure the switch is in the BT position. Maybe worth unpairing and repairing see if that changes anything
@@Doragon86 the controller works fine with everything else, including boosteroid but with GeForce now it says there's no controller connected. When I said it's not recognized by any game was any game inside GeForce now
There are many game showed as aviable that are not working correctly crashing or not starting at all beware you can have game that don't work and you just put the money into trash bin.
I dont know about the paid service but. The free one sucks. It was unable to keep smooth 60fps on Valheim even at medium settings, with all the extra stuff turned off. And Im on a 144hz monitor with freesync enabled. Im sure the paid service is far better. But they should give a discount trial or something, so people can test it out. As it is, the free version is very bad. Worse performance than even Xcloud. Better visual fidelity at higher resolution but. Terrible performance. Also no wait when you load something on Xcloud. They just need to fix the resolution. It looks like straight 720p with no upscaling. Its pretty bad. Geforce now is ever so slightly more responsive. But the difference is negligible. They're both perfectly playable. All in all. Performance and solid framerates are my main focus. So after my testing today. Unless im willing to pay for geforce now to test that, Xcloud is the clear winner for me. But xcloud is gamepass games only, nothing you own. So as it is. It'll be some years before its going to be decent. Neither are particularly good. And if you factor in the input lag it adds. Its only good for certain games to begin with.
I dont think it is meant for someone like you. I'm about to try it with an Nvidia Shield TV Pro. As an alternative to an Xbox. Sure. I have a PC with an RTX 3080TI BUT I can't play my library of 2000 steam games on my living room couch. Even if they are not all supported. Hopefully with my 1,000mbps internet l, 4k TV and the Nvidia Shield it will be a much better alternative to buying an Xbox that I have 0 games for. I'll try to comment again once I make up my mind after doing some couch gaming.
Haven't gotten to play much from the living room until my wife goes on her trip in a couple weeks. But I was having problems with Fortnite crashing on my PC for some strange reason and using GeForce now on the PC was a round about way to solve that problem and it runs great!
Unfortunately I don't own a PC, so it's not something I can look into and emulate to find a fix. I'd personally start by trying another headset, even a cheapo mobile phone one. If that does nothing it'll be a case of balancing GFN and PC audio settings with lots of minor tweaks until it is all sorted. Sorry I can't offer something more concrete
I think your experience may be hampered a bit. The UI definitely has been upgraded a few times. You most definitely can see all the games in each category, it’s at the bottom. You definitely have the best experience wired in. 8k visuals on ps5 huh? Lmao
Wrong on all counts my friend. As mentioned in the video, I do not own a laptop, Mac or PC. Every aspect you have mentioned that I "definitely can" do, does not exist in the versions of the service I have access to, and bear in mind that it has been directly marketed to me as someone without a laptop, Mac or PC. The 8K point for PS5 is part of their marketing for the system, heck it's on the box. It's as outlandish as GFN's 4K 120 claims and requires much the same additional investment to obtain additional hardware to do either, hence the comparison.
@@Doragon86 it’s meant to be a high end supplemental gaming experience, not a total replacement for a console. You can’t complete the two. Saying that you would rather deal with the shitty experience of Xbox cloud over GeForce now just because there’s more free is like saying you would rather go to a buffet that you know will give you diarrhea over a 5 star restaurant. If money and resources is your full concern than I see your point. But to say GeForce now is terrible is not accurate.
If you have a tv that can do 4k 120 then you can display it on gfn. You would need such a tv to take advantage of a PS5 for 4k 120. The difference is GFN can do it with settings maxed out.
Therein lies the difference my friend. I'm mobile only as stated in the video. No laptop, no PC, no surface, mac etc, just an android phone and tablet where these features do not appear
i use Ultimate on my PC ethernet with 80 MB/s connectivity...and when playing my games...i forget i am streaming. theres absolutely NO lag stutter or visual drops...is the best out of them all. ( i also have gamepass ultimate and Luna....both are ass in comparison) I can tell you all right now....upgrade to Ultimate...it makes Priority tier feel like a piece of shit.
So….I just signed up for the $15/month subscription and gave it a try. Graphically…holy shit it looked great! Lag? A bit. Just a bit. I used a wired xbox controller and it was useable. I’ve been saying it for a couple of years now. Cloud gaming will be the mainstream gaming.
One day it will be the main way to game, right now though all providers feel like they are treading water or going backwards and that's just frustrating
Only problem you have to deal with is Some games need you to install Anti-cheat software ( A big no no for Geforce now) Due to their Policy No installing software - Most of steam games need anti-cheat installed that stop Paying Users and it stop Cheaters when they joined with Cheats or without installing software
Honestly the better bang for buck option. Why the queues on the free tier have increased so much I don't know, but it has basically destroyed the point of the tier
@@Doragon86 I live in Eastern Europe and I wait no more than 2 minutes to connect into a game. Well the weird part is that when I play a game that I have played the most it connects within 2 minutes. When I want to play a game I have never played on GFN before I wait more than 20minutes.
Hello Doragon, you are using 2.4GHz WiFi on this video. That is the worst WiFi connection you can use on this service. I'd say mínimum 5Ghz and preferred 6Ghz with WiFi 6E, but your device have to be able to recieve 6GHz also. The most stable of all would be Ethernet but you're using a phone here, so not possible. Most important thing here is ISP stability, being 100Mbps or 1Gbps doesn't change anything if your ISP is unstable. It seems that your preferred console is PS5, so the PC library offered on GFN is not going to be as atractive to you. Also you said that with PS5 you can run games at 8K? That's also only If you have the screen for it, and is it really worth it? I guess that's subjective, just as the game library, wich I think it's great! but i'm mainly a PC gamer The other day a friend of mine went to my house and I set him up Apex from GFN, and he only plays on his high-end PC. He didn't even notice he was playing on GFN with a 3080 equivalent, after he finished his match I told him it was cloud gaming the whole time and he couldn’t belive it! That was on a 2013 laptop with external MnK connected to a 1080p 144Hz monitor. As you said in other comments, content is king, but very subjective to preferences. I now use GFN Ultimate with the 6 months plan wich equals $15/month, similar to Netflix's price, wich I have canceled because haven't watched in a while anyway. Having a 3080/4080 on demand it's just crazy and jumping to a game with just a click, with such amazing performance is already a great value for me. I use it in complement to my PC now and love it. I saw in your video you were playing Returnal, that's what i'm currently playing in coop with a friend right now on PC, one of the only PS titles that interests me, and OMG, amazing game so far, we are in the 4th biome, each biome keeps improving on how beautiful it looks. Ultimately I think you are right about priority tier, you are better of buying an Xbox One X, PS4 pro or maybe a Series S
Incorrect my good man. They are getting all Xbox studio's PC games. It's an important definition in the legal documentation, meaning even if you are subscribed to Gamepass, you will have to purchase those same games separately to play on GFN. I can't say if cloud saves will cross from Gamepass to GFN or vice versa so it is another consideration to take in.
@@MoRoMeTe_ Totally fair and a few will feel similar. I worry though that due to Xbox conditioning their players to not buy games that it'll a tough sell for the majority of Xbox gamers who do subscribe to Gamepass
Game pass has the games, but GeForce Cloud quality is way better (RTX4080 Tier) my friend. Great video.
Is that Stadia I hear calling from the grave? 😂😂
No arguments on performance at all, I'd still prefer content to play though 🤷
@@Doragon86 Content is King! And that was my only issue with Stadia. So it didn't matter how smooth it was or the features you couldn't find anywhere else because in the end I bought a PS5 to play the games that wasn't coming so I get it.
GeForce now never claimed to be a the best value for your dollar. It’s the best streaming service to experience the highest pc graphics without the need for a console. Let’s stop trying to compare this to a console that can barely do 4K 60.
Microsoft just signed a deal today that will bring it's Xbox PC library and Activision's PC library to GeForce now.
@@racerx6384 Yeah I seen that. That is Great for gaming! So hopefully this helps the Activision deal goes through.
People who wants to jump into gaming and plans to play regularly, consoles or PC are the better investment.
yeah it's definitely strange with the timing cutoff. play 1 hour a day? i guess some people plan their days like that, i prefer freedom of choice.
When you consider the price of a nvida gpu that's not bad at all.
I started to playing on pc this month and o boy this is best thing that can happend to us gamers 🤣
No need to buy pc 10 e month awesome
I find it hard to justify buying a decent gaming laptop for £1000+
Yeah. Caveats and proviso's really hold it back, otherwise it'd be a really easy recommendation
I think the main thing is they have engineers working on all features of GFN. It's obvious that no UX person has worked on GFN lol
Interesting perspective as a mobile player :) good job!
Cheers dude, appreciate it
Crazy, answering the question is it worth buying GFN, maybe it's worth comparing a PC for $2k not an old console, 60 frames on PS5? have you ever played? More like 30fps on medium graphics settings.
I tried GFN for the first time yesterday. Technically, the demo game I tried ran perfectly (I have a 500/500 connection and my ping was
This was very insightful and I agree with your thoughts on the 4080, while as impressive as it is you still need the hardware to receive the visuals which to display 240 frames per second that will cost you a nice penny. And I probably wouldn't be able to stand all the extra signing in and out.
Honestly mate, the signing back into platforms constantly has made this video so unnecessarily difficult to make
@@Doragon86 I can imagine.

You need those same things with any 4K you can't get 4k let alone 120 frames per second if you don't have the equipment so that should not be factored in at all. That doesn't change depending on what console you're using
small little gripe too is every time i start modern warfare 3 on geforce now, it has to pre install shaders EVERY session. its a pain in the arse.
All games is at the bottom with the genres at least it is on my shield TV and my later shield TV pro and there used to be more games before Google started off the exclusivity rights but honestly the beta was much better as you could just launch steam and play anything essentially and it was free with instant gaming and unlimited length sessions
A lot to say about this, but bloody great content regardless 👌 and a lot of interesting and undercooked points 💯
Free tier support up to 1080p 60fps. Also there's an option to show all games. Nice video.
The all games is a PC only feature, something that I do mention within the video I don't own
Can't wait for Cloudy Thoughts to talk about this!!
Glad I could help :)
According to my plan the Priority is a GTX 2080 - the in game overlay says what it is .
I've had to wait for over 5 hours without even being able to play many many times with the free membership ):
Then stop being a parasite sucking from the tits of paying users who support the platform.
Its mind blowing! They need to add 1080p , 1440p, 4k, and 120hrz for iphone users tho
priority tear specs are the 2080, 60fps rtx on 6hr gameplay.
my only gripe with geforce now is the lack of some games, for instance non of the from software games are on it, mortal kombat 1 is missing, no rockstar support so no gta or red dead and yes that means no gta 6 too. however, im absoulty amazed by geforce now, my laptop struggles withalot of games, i cant afford to buy an xbox so geforce now allows me to play call of duty at 4k 60 fps at max settings with dlss on quality and i can play loads of gamepass games too. its incredible. i know the 8 hour session limit is a bummer, but to be fair, i dont play games for 8 hours anyway, i only game for 2 hours if im lucky. i work a very demanding job so me time is rare
I go into all these points a bit more in my Boosteroid review

they gave android a UI parity to be the same as on PC, tho I am unsure if its just im the beta version or not. I am in the beta version, so you can check that out. This fixes the "we need to download additional data" issue, enables you to see all games (by using the search function, typing a letter and deleting it again.) So the UI issues with android should have been fixed by now
I'll give it a look, thank you for the update
GeForce now has been around since 2014 and they had a lot more games but those games got pulled from the service but there publishers
Smh
Ive actually used GFN for competitive FPS shooters and no problems
It's WAY better over ethernet instead of WiFi
no offence BUT HOW DO YOU HAVE GIGABIT AND STILL LAG when I have 50 mb and have never had issues
Ask Nvidia because I'm as stumped as you are 🤷
Ultimate tier is where its at. Probably better experience than current gen consoles.
Thanks
what watch are you wearing?
It is the Tickwatch Pro 3
gonna buy witcher 3 and play it though GFN on 60fps on a celeron it's so amazing how far cloud gaming has come
My computer needs a upgrade that I can't afford, so I can play Baldurs gate3, so GFN works for me. Being retired I would like to play more tha 8 hours a day my only problem.
So we know now, in three year it will be fully perfect.
Guess Playstation 6 and Xbox next will be the last stationary Konsols.
(Ex stadia user) Is steamdeck worth purchasing ?
Totally subjective to you here my friend. The Steam Deck is an amazing bit of kit that runs a lot of steam titles in a handheld form factor, you can also get most of the other cloud gaming services and remote play services running on it.
If this is something that suits you, and you don't already have other devices that can do similar/the same, then it might be worth investing in a Steam Deck
Its been great for getting back into gaming, but all roads are definitely leading to a PS5. The 4080 upgrade may postpone that but I want to play spiderman!
Content is king and if another platform offers that content that you want, then the only sensible option for your own enjoyment is to follow that trail, wherever it may take you
P.S. The Spider-Man games both rock, cannot wait for the full sequel later this year
I've been playing Cyberpunk with raytracing overdrive on the service. Other than that they need a larger library of games to keep me subscribed.
well with xbox game pass I guess they'll have a larger library.
@@atnfn Is that coming? That would be awesome.
I guess they think mobile users can't handle the "all games list" lol, cause that list is available on the PC app.
Yeah apparently we're incapable of dealing with it 🙄
Its always what U want and what U expect.
A UI designer could have that fixed in a week.
@4:55 -- *Dude, using a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi? Yeah, Wi-FI 6 ... but STILL only 2.4GHz! Move up to 5GHz and see the difference. C'mon, man!*
Totally understand that point of view Kilo, you have to do what is best for you
@@Doragon86 another up date i purchased it and it's honestly not that bad all things considered only thing i dont like is not being able to use any mods on games like project zomboid or ark but other then that?
I been traveling for 6 month and geforce have been a god send since I only have my surface go 2
I know that feeling, back in 2006 the PSP saved my mind one more than one occasion while travelling Australia and New Zealand for 3 years.
Can I play tf2 off stream on my series X if i get this?
If you access it via the edge browser TF2 is compatible so it should be possible
@@Doragon86 I love you, thank you so much
Hard to complain about no games when GFN supports over 100 freetoplay titles... AND Epic Games gives out AAA games for nothing. They gave me GTA5 for freebies 😎👍
I'm going to just keep amazon luna 😂 I got to buy the game, pay a monthly fee, AND have a time limit na ain't getting me with that scam.
I personally can't recomend it. GeForce now does not have enough games, and most of the games it supports (if not all) don't really need a high end System.
Great video buddy
Thanks 😁
I hate to mention this, but I will as I also thought the same, there isn't 24 ftp games, there are about 150 or something but that absolutely horrible UI you talked about is the reason you see only the small amount. You actually have to search the word free to see them 🤣 yes it's a joke.
If only Nvidia had been able to make that as clear as you just did!
@@Doragon86 Also, it really highlights how good Stadia was regarding platform features and games launching doesn't it ....for all it's faults.
I actually haven't played at all since the Stadia announcement 🤷♂️
tbh the thing i find that sucks about geforce now is the rig thing there is always 200+ or 500+ people in the rig it ruins the of using it
cuz one of my friends had to wait 7 hours
cuz they had they use the free thing
cuz they didnt have enough money
I brought one the other day, i can sign up to geforce now, can anyone help me please??
100% agree with this. NVidia has completely missed the mark with this service.
I played 1 game on GeForce and now it won’t work. The app says that it’s down for maintenance…
ya that means its being patched. for some reason even a simple update can take days to clear on geforce now. i think they have to update that particular game on all thier servers. so imagine modern warfare 3 gets a 30 gb update. thats a long time waiting.
That's not to say that GFN Ultimate doesn't make more sense for some gamers, or feels incomparable to anything else, they are however a minority
imagine does not have unlimited data plan......
I also use the MOGA XP5-X Plus and it does not recognize on any game on my phone. Any way to make it work?
Hello! when i enable my mic the audio quality sounds terrible but its sounds fine without the mic turned on, is there a fix?..
It's not a situation I have come across so not one I have looked into. What device are you using it on?
@@Doragon86 in playing on pc using a headset with mic on it, the second i turn on the mic setting the audio quality os terrible.

Game pass is still the best service out if all of these services.
This video has 3 weeks and i have all games in alphabetical order in gfn app. Quick response or missleading video?
You on PC by any chance and not mobile?

Therein lies the difference my friend. I'm mobile only as stated in the video. No laptop, no PC, no surface, mac etc, just an android phone and tablet where these features do not appear
i use Ultimate on my PC ethernet with 80 MB/s connectivity...and when playing my games...i forget i am streaming. theres absolutely NO lag stutter or visual drops...is the best out of them all. ( i also have gamepass ultimate and Luna....both are ass in comparison) I can tell you all right now....upgrade to Ultimate...it makes Priority tier feel like a piece of shit.

Cloud gaming still sucks, but why actually? Should be smooth in 2023.
One day it will be the main way to game, right now though all providers feel like they are treading water or going backwards and that's just frustrating
geforce now is the only reason I can play games on mac
Only problem you have to deal with is
Some games need you to install Anti-cheat software ( A big no no for Geforce now)
Due to their Policy
No installing software - Most of steam games need anti-cheat installed
that stop Paying Users and it stop Cheaters when they joined with Cheats or without installing software
Why now you need to wait hour to play
I'm going to play on Xbox cloud
Honestly the better bang for buck option. Why the queues on the free tier have increased so much I don't know, but it has basically destroyed the point of the tier
@@Doragon86 I live in Eastern Europe and I wait no more than 2 minutes to connect into a game. Well the weird part is that when I play a game that I have played the most it connects within 2 minutes. When I want to play a game I have never played on GFN before I wait more than 20minutes.
It’s only worth it when you subscribe to Ultimate… And then it’s ******* brilliant!
It's also many asterisks expensive!
@@Doragon86 Well, if you want the best.
@@Doragon86 Just bought an Nvidea Shield, ethernet connection, 4K/55" TV, AI & GFN upscaling, DLSS Frame Generation, RT Path Tracing... OMFG!!!
And I have every console. The only problem with GeForce now I have like 1k steam games I can't play on gfn like metal gear solid 5
I guess that's subjective, just as the game library, wich I think it's great! but i'm mainly a PC gamer
The other day a friend of mine went to my house and I set him up Apex from GFN, and he only plays on his high-end PC.
I should've known this was just another pony advertising his preferred plastic box.
Geforce now is getting all xbox pc gamepass games for the next years.
@Doragon86 Yes, you are correct. I have no problem with buying the games...and if crosssave is enabled even better.
@@MoRoMeTe_ Totally fair and a few will feel similar. I worry though that due to Xbox conditioning their players to not buy games that it'll a tough sell for the majority of Xbox gamers who do subscribe to Gamepass
