      It's a deliberate strategy. Peter Thiel suggested he change his appearance to appeal more to a younger generation. Not saying this isn't what Mark Zuckerberg wouldn't wear normally or that he doesn't actually like his new look, just saying that it's a deliberate change.

      This is why Apple is in a really good position. They can optimize the iPhone to do this when the display tech is cheap enough that they can begin to sell their AR glasses.

      Honestly. The moment i saw it, i started thinking, yah, why is everyone not doing this? It’s so much easier to have a low latency high bandwidth wireless chip, than a whole computer on your face. I honestly couldn’t come up with any reason why apple or others didn’t just start with this

      More than a Decade of Work and Billions of Dollars went into those Spectacles. And in the End, We got a Piece of Technology that would’ve been Strictly Sci-Fi just merely 20 years ago. I’m excited to see how they Tackle Exo-Suits and Jetpacks in the Near Future, Since AGI could easily figure out the Logistics behind these things in a Few Months instead of Years. If that puck is Wifi 7 tethered to them and the chip is, say, on par with "flagship phones next year" in terms of processing they just need to be a fair price and **eventually** a great battery life and BAM next majorly popular wearable.

    I WONDER how high they would have had to set the price.
    My theory on the Vision Pro is that Apple spent billions on r&d and needed to get the conversation started. The price didn’t matter because the R&D wasn’t for the VP, but for XR as a whole.
    Now with Meta knowing that the VP still sold some units at $3500, they must have not been able to set the price that “low”

      @@BuffPomsky The only reason they can achieve a 70-degree FOV is that they use a very expensive material - silicon carbide. Currently, there is no way they can make it affordable without sacrificing that, so I would expect this to not be for sale for at least 5 years.

    This is really impressive, but the cost of this is at least more than $3,000 because of the material of the display to achieve a 70-degree POV. I hope that it will cost less one day, but I think it is not happening in the near future.

      The articles mentions that Meta expects the price of consumer model to be in line with what smartphones and laptops cost today, which I interpret as 1k - 2k.

    70 degree field of view is actually pretty decent for non-VR. Definitely has some kinks to workout which is to be expected for an early version. Nice to see how far along they are.

      It probably costs like $5-10k a unit. Those lenses are probably the extra expensive bit.. Perfectly transparent silicon carbide (in other words, moissanite) aint gonna be cheap to make.

    I know he gets a lot of flack and people call him a lizard person, but for years I've been saying that Mark feels like he's one of the only Bilionairs who actually just a regular nerdy guy who just wants to do some cool nerdy stuff. During the whole Facebook issues with the data tracking stuff he seamed more like the fall guy that was just saying all the things his PR team told him to, but anything I've seen where he talks about Meta, it reminds me of any other guy who has am odd obby (his is just very well funded)

    I like that the lenses are transparent and not opaque like Apple's. I think Apple made a mistake in this regard. The future is transparent lenses.

    The thing is this all can be done using a phone. I don't understand the push for AR and VR for everyday lives. They are niche devices, but who knows, people thought internet was a fad at first, so, lets see what happens. I met Google Glass's head of product once, and while everyone was making fun of the failure of the Glass, he was very serious when he was saying that there will be a day when people will like it, we were just a bit earlier. Maybe, he will have the last laugh.

    Intriguing. I'm looking forward to one day having a laptop running in my backpack and using this as the "screen" when I'm in commute for maps, etc. Or pulling up cheat sheet in meetings.

    The ingredients on the table was the softest softball in the history of softballs. You basically have 2 options: Just put everything in a bowl and have oatmeal with banana, dates and cacao, or blend it all up for a smoothie. Do you really need AI to tell you that? Also neither of those "recipes" even work if you don't also happen to have milk at home.

    I have one kislux bag I got in 2019, it's the LV white catogram speedy. It's counter quality and it has a nice honey patina now, so the leather is real. I think whatever makes you happy go for it. I've seen LV with plastic leather and blood red glaze...

    Magic Leap 2’s FOV is 70º but they decided to be more vertical aspect ratio. Plus Magic Leap 2 has global and segmented dimming features and likely more power in its wired compute battery puck. I am curious how Meta’s wireless compute battery pack performs and the thermals to maintain that wireless transmission. Clear advantage with the CTRL-Labs wristband maybe over ML’s controller? idk The clear benefit is you don’t have to carry around a controller but micro gestures and buttons can be captures on ML’s trackpad and buttons. POINT IS different set of trade-offs.
