    I mix or take baking soda and/or clove powder with my sweets. Amazingly, clove powder doesn't change the taste of the best sweets that much. And, if I have ceylon cinnamon, then I use that, too. I don't always have it, because sometimes, I run out and have to order it(avoid the Spring Valley's version that is sold at Wal-mart if you ae not muslim--it is halal certified as of this date and this certification according to islam law is that a imam must pray over and ritually prepare it to be that).
    If you are not muslim, that might be uberproblematic for you! Because I am on the subject, Girl Scout Cookies also now use the standard(admitted it) and research the halal certified symbols and avoid products that use them(tiny Muslim writing on the item or I think an M is used as well, but research to know as many as you can).
