Vintage..I have a 2000 too. Never thought if it as vintage. The oil cooler cools the back cylinder, and the front is air cooled. 3 valves per cylinder. And duel carbs.. it's a great bike. Is all the same technology from 1987. Intruders Alert is a great forum for help with these machines..
I have a 92 been rock solid reliable. I cleaned the air filters at 20000 miles, weren’t even dirty. Street riding has very little dust. While you got it apart detail clean it. A little sea foam or mystery oil in the gas now and then keeps carbs in good shape. Don’t use ethanol. I put a nice fitted mesh screen to protect oil cooler. Mine looks show room still a fine machine. Her name “ Aubrey “. I always shut fuel off and run out just as I pull into garage. Less chance to gum carbs.
I found this exact bike for only $2,000. 11,000 miles on it, clean title and never been dropped! Beautiful bike, just needs to be shined up and it needs a new seat. I also want to put a larger tank on it.
Thanks, Cosmic timing. Just picked up a 2000 Intruder 1400 and came to YT to find a how to get to Air filter...obviously, after watching, that was the ez part......
I was looking for the rear air filter info. I acquired one of these machines, but it's missing a lot of parts. I wanted to see, what seems to be a holder, on the rear, right side air filter. I see slots and a bolt hole, but no parts for it. The rear seat on mine has one bolt, where yours has two. It looks like the one I have was dropped a few time. Dented tank and pipes. Looks like the previous owner was going for the chopper look? No front fender, license plate moved to the side, no front turn signals, etc... Odometer only shows 852 miles. For such low miles, it's sure in terrible condition. Oh, I see why the seat may be different? Yours is a 2000. Mine is a 2001. Update: My seat is totally different. Front and rear are one piece. Right now, my problem is figuring out what supports the lower left side cover. Another video shows the older Intruder has side covers with grommets, so they just pull off. Mine has two bolt at the top. The right side lower is supported by the air filter box. The left side has a slot in the same area as the right, for a support, of some type to go into it. I wish I could find how it is supported, because it seems as if it would vibrate and make noise, the way it has no support on the lower part.
Hey just got a 94 and she just doesn't wanna go above 60. She starts and runs great. You hop on the highway get up to 80 then it starves for gas. So I slow down to let the bowls fills and it's fine. Could it be because the previous owner put on a jardine exhaust system and never got the carbs tuned? Could it be a pinched line? Lord I hope not but could it be good ol fashioned timing since it spits and backfires when getting on it up in 4th? I need help😭😭. I bought it from an older man that lived in town and never went above 60 so he wouldnt of noticed. I'm puzzled where to start
Sounds like fuel delivery issue I would start with fogging it with berrymans carb cleaner whole can have thru each carb. Check tank for signs of rust and petcock for flow.....
I have a 1996 Suzuki intruder vs 1400 is that in the garage and New York City for 4 years I got it running license and insurance but I can't get above 25% throttle because it just wants to die any suggestions
I'd start with fuel supply. Tank, fuel petcock, lines-carbs. Etc... Sounds fuel starved or ignition failure is.. coil pack there are two one for each cylinder. I had to replace one of mine...
flwoods1 no but I've had both carbs off and they are attached to both by a bracket I'm not sure but I think you have to take at least the front carb off because the cable is attached to it by a bracket you can't get to without the carb off!
Ugh, thanks for the info. Gonna have to deal with it. Chokes not working at all. Don't think the second carbs going to be any easier :-( And to think I almost took it to Suzy shop $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
flwoods1 prepare for some character building! :) getting the carbs seated back into the mounts on the engine, and also, hitting the air filter connectors are a pain in the rump. just be sure to loosen the clamps on both almost all the way right up until the screws are about to come out and it helps get them seated!
Question since I am a true beginner: Do I need to empty the tank before I untie the gascables? And if so, how do I get the gas out of the tank without spilling it all over the floor?
I have 1995 1400 intruder with 2666 miles 5 years ago & now 20,400 Miles & still puring like a Kitten . Good reliable bike .
Nice! I sold the one I had it was a nice bike though! I prefer a much bigger bike for road trips so I have a Yamaha Midnight Venture....

Got a clue on where I could find a replacement cover for the backrest along with a lock? Lol mine fell out today while riding and yep, can’t find it
That stinks 😞. Sorry but I have no idea. Maybe eBay?

Where did you get the crash bars? Looking for a set myself.

Could be fuel supply or weak ignition. I would start with fuel supply.
Have you had to deal with the choke cable ? Got to replace mine.

Where and what kind are your crash bars?
Jasom Kovac they were already on the bike when I got it
Hey bro you still have you intruder??
No I sold it. Bought it to flip it.
Quero comprar uma aqui no Brasil. She is 1995 , is Nice?. Thank.
Before you remove the fuel lines turn off the fuel valve under the tank. A little will come out. Of the lines so have rags handy...
Yes it is!
How to change the clutch line
? Don't have the bike anymore to help. Sorry!
i wouldnt consider a year 2000 vintage. but those are cool bikes
A vehicle should be 50 years or older to be classified as vintage.
Very complicated just for an air filter
Yes it is
Question since I am a true beginner: Do I need to empty the tank before I untie the gascables? And if so, how do I get the gas out of the tank without spilling it all over the floor?
no....gas wont come out unless you take the gas cap off...odd huh?
There is a shut off on the bottom of the tank; turn that off BEFORE removing the 2 fuel lines
Intruder vs 1400 👍👍👍🏆🏆🏆🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺
..............and ill be right back............
