Instead of scrapping the old 307 we are upgrading the top end, adding a mild cam and lifters and installing Vortec Heads and long tube headers. That is very true the coolant eats the gasket. i was told by my father who worked for GM dealership and Toyota dealer ships to flush the coolant and put toyota red coolant in and it will not eat head gaskets. Im about to embark on my first set on my corvette. 106k and coolant looks sus and the "work" the previous owner did im shure was top notch me chanic and threw a straight bar on it for shure and knew the heads where not warped. But what ever thanks for the video i was really hoping the fire wall wasnt gonna be in my way of removing the heads on my 86. im gonna change the oil and make shure its blown before i take it apart. but definently changing my coolant to toyota red. the green even eat the water pump motors fans blades and they turn into mini saw blades. Thanks.

    I swear I didn't watch this video before I wrote the comment on part 1. A 200R4 would be a great choice for that car. Then do your 0 to 60 test then put the 4.11 gear in it and redo the test again. You won't need a 350 afterwards. My guess why the mpg improved is because you went from 70cc heads to 64cc heads giving a nice little compression boost probably around 8.75:1 from 8:1? I see this was a year ago and the channel looks like it went quiet byr if you guys plan on making more videos let me know and I'll subscribe.😎👍

  • @itseithergonnaworkoritaint7852
    @itseithergonnaworkoritaint7852 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The Powerglide transmission is the major reason that car was way slow. That transmission is like starting out in 2nd gear. A 200R4 will bolt right in and will have a 2.74:1 first gear vs a 1.82 first gear from the slipandslide. Plus it has overdrive for better fuel economy. Or a th350 would also bolt right in and would be able to use the same driveshaft. Gearing helps tremendously to get a car moving. The 200R4 will need at least a 3.42:1 rear gear so you can shift into overdrive at 45 mph. They sell a stand alone lockup switch that can be installed to use lockup. Or you can get a converter that doesn't have lockup. To get the same acceleration as the 200 with a 3.42 gear with a th350 you would have to install a 3.73 rear gear. With a 307 a set of 3.90 or 4.11 rear gears would really help that little guy get that car moving with the 200R4. It has overdrive so the final drive gearing with a 4.11 gear would be 2.75:1. Which with a 307 that would be the ticket, you don't want the final drive ratio to be to numerically low or it might not want to stay in overdrive on the highway going over a hill, especially if you want to run a bigger cam? Sweet car, the little 307 has potential if it's teamed up with the proper gearing. Also sbc 305 Vortec heads would of been the better choice to get the compression up. With the right head gaskets you could of got the compression up to 9.88:1. Top it off with a genuine imitation RPM Airgap dual plane intake with whatever cam you choose that keeps the rpm at 6,500 or lower because it has a cast crank. There is no downside to running the RPM Airgap not even on a 305 with a factory cam.(Ask me how I know)😎👍

    A right angle pick under the hose breaks it loose safer than using players or force. You will be less;likely to damage the fitting. Also constant pressure clamps should be used on radiator hoses because of the Constant expansion and contraction. Use antifreeze as a lubricant next time.
