My name is Brian but everyone calls me Greeny. I retired in January of 2020 after working 30 years in Law Enforcement. I wanted to retire young enough to be able to do some of the things I always dreamed about! I knew I wanted to travel extensively and retire somewhere warm and exotic I sampled a ton of places in the Caribbean, Panama, Colombia, Turkey but set my sights on Thailand. In 2020 I met Fai on a Tinder date and we hit it off immediately. We have been inseparable ever since!
I started making videos as a hobby but now it is more like a passion.

$1000/month? The median per capita income in Thailand is about $250K baht per year. That’s about $600 USD per month. So maybe $1000/mo isn’t so hard

Google how far the median income in Thailand goes. Young Thai people can’t afford to live on their own. I wouldn’t recommend anyone trying to live without a substantial savings and $1500/mo (Bare minimum).

@@TheGreatEscape9833 Right Eric, I've been there many times and could easily live in Pattaya or Bangkok for about $1000 USD a month or less. I've done it before and I could do it again. Maybe you can't but that doesn't mean I or others can't.

    • @ajg4528
      @ajg4528 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@TheGreatEscape9833 Fair point. I was just trying to create a reference point to reflect Thailand’s low cost of living. Here’s another way. He’s spending $1K USD per month. That’s 160% of the median per capita income in Thailand. In the US, 160% of the median per capita income is about $5k per month. Just a measure of relativity to show that it’s not a ton of money, but it’s not exactly subsistence living like it would be in the US

If u retire to any Country and u want to live fairly comfortably, first thing u need to have is your own house, condo, apt and its yours, no debt.
If u rent and u want to move about , yeah no problem .
But u can not retire for lets say for the next 30yrs and live on $1000 a month renting and living.
    No way,, not comfortably.
I have stayed in Pratumnak and Jomtien , and they are very nice places ,so if u want to stay in a decent condo for a year it will be at least $400 a month.
So ,for lets say, 20 years plus and costs will rise , u need to own your own place.
I respect what this guy is saying and i like his travelling buzz but u wont do that year in year out.
Bottom line is ,,own your own place, travel when u want and u might do $1000 bucks a month for the next 10 years, 20 years only if u own your place..
Prices are on the rise and Thailand is no different..
Its a great story but life is not cheap and it aint getting any cheaper and neither is your age.
U dont start going backpackin at 55 years of age.
Its a progression, u start at 18 and move thru your life and its challenges. Start at 50 years of age, rent bikes, rent condos, go on trips, eat cheap at thai restaurants.. yep i love it and i love Thailand but u will not retire here on $1k a month without owning your own pad unless u are very wealthy.

I agree, you’re also not living on $1,000/mo when you invest thousands from savings into a property anyways. No matter if you have rent or own your property, that cost is somewhere.
