🛠Barra Turbo 1000cc Bosch Fuel Injector Upgrade! Will the BA XR6 Turbo still run?

  • My quest for more power from my BA Falcon XR6 Turbo continues - this time we're throwing a new set of Bosch 1000cc injectors into the barra turbo's fuel rail. As usual though on this channel, it doesn't always go to plan. Some pesky rounded-off throttle body bolts threw a spanner in the works, and made the job take way longer than it should have! #MOTORINGBOX

      I would never buy a second hand turbo Falcon XR , a better option would be but a standard XR manual ute or sedan in good condition then upgrade your engine with a high quality turbo kit which includes good quality pistons con rods injectors, I would also get the stock head reworked with high quality valves and springs. My brother worked in engine reconditioning knows what to do just give him the parts and a few hundred bucks and a couple of slabs and Bob's your sister!

    The chewed up hex socket bolt in the throttle body, use a size up in torx bit hammered in- trying that with a hex bit leaves no room for the excess metal to go except to shallow up the depth in the hole, then it just chews it up more- Try the Torx bit! You find the metal binds around the torx shape better. I don't understand why you've taken off the air intake manifold to change the injectors- you can work around the intake manifold for less time overall. But yes it makes it easier to work in there ok! The short injector is designed for the FG.

    U are doing all the mods I'm doing. I have a ba xr6, and I'm really nervous about flooding the motor with 2 much fuel. I bought a ecu from a mechanic on ebay. He was really nice to me and he did a custom tune and flashed it. Then he posted it to me. He reckons 650cc injectors are perfect for 550hp. I know he's a professional with barra motors, so don't believe everything about having to use 1000cc injectors 2 get the sort of hp I'm chasing. Maybe you should think about getting a couple of fire extinguishers for your baby. You sell yourself short mate, u can use a computer well and you have a mechanical mind. Thanks again for showing me things that I have been thinking about for ages.

      650cc to get 550hp? on 98 maybe. im unsure on my injector duty cycle but i know its high enough id struggle to make much more than my current 370kw on e85 with the deka 60's i have. If you want your car to last, get a proper tune, not a mail order tune. As far as people choosing 1000cc, there isnt really a reason not to these days. Its a minimal price increase and they idle like stock and leaves you with much more head room.

    @mwl079 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey mate, love the channel, I know it’s an old video but I just learnt my EPMAN BOV is installed around the wrong way, and so is yours. The bottom port of the EPMAN BOV is the boost side, the side port is the dump side. I installed my one the same direction as the factory Bosch BOV which I’ve learnt is not correct. Sort of made sense in the end because the little trumpet you get in the pack that screws on the side so you can vent to atmosphere would not work when the bottom of the BOV is connected to the low pressure side (before turbo) of your in air intake.

    • @MotoringBoxTV
      @MotoringBoxTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting, still seems to work fine though. Sound any different now that you've fixed it?

    • @mwl079
      @mwl079 ปีที่แล้ว

      The biggest difference is when you unscrew the top and want to make it softer it works. Because boost was coming into the side it was effectively just blocking it off, same if you used a rubber plug and deleted the BOV all together. Obviously the EPMAN BOV didn’t come with instructions but looking at other brands like Turbosmart instructions manuals, they all suggest flipping the direction compared to the Bosch which makes sense, vacuum pulls from the top, boost pushes from the bottom and vents out the side, and thats where you can attach that little trumpet that come in the pack to vent to atmosphere.

    Also just recently replaced the injectors with 'updates'. Now it's running rough, so I'm not sure if they may not be talking to the ECU properly, or it's a co-incidence and the MAP sensor failed at that time. It went from running real clean plugs to filthy black.

    440's would be better for a stock turbo, I want to put bosch 295cc injectors into my barra (naturally aspirated) but is that too much? Apart from headers and a hi flo I haven't done anything to it @ 117, 000k's. Bosch says for "hot n/a's and mild turbos" I wouldn't really call mine warm I was advised it needed to be tuned after the headers were installed, I hardly drive it so I haven't. I bet the figure for the injectors is too high. Engine starts and runs for a bit from cranking pulses, but then can't idle because injectors are not flowing as much as the ECU thinks. The injectors you installed are standard territory ones. SORRY but stuffing the head on those Allan head bolts is not on Use the proper size key. I have never damaged a Allan head bolt in 55 years of repairing engines
