    As others have commented, using the valve stem to accomplish the cleaning is pure genius! Plus the video is well done, with no babbling. Just good information. Thanks so much! I ran the cleaner in the reverse Direction first. That's what Motion Pro says to do but their tool cost something like a hundred dollars. Maybe even more

      I use a piece of heater hose and clamp it on the bottom of the injectorand clamp a valve stem in the other end then fill it B12 chemtool and energize the injector and let it drip through the first time then fill it a second time and blow it out with the compressor the switch directions and do the same from the top works great and you don't have to try to seal the straw to anything

    My significant other tried this method and IT WORKS WELL! He didn't have the electric connector so he used two sets of alligator clips, small and medium sized, attached to the poles of a car battery. Thank you very much for this video, we are so grateful bc it saved us a bundle of money and it really did work well.

  • @lsh3rd
    @lsh3rd 6 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    This method worked very well for me... I made a few alterations: 1. I tightened a hose clamp around the valve end for a bit more of a seal. I had it pop off on me once before this and found you *really* need to wear safety glasses when doing this. 2. I drilled a hole in the top of a glass jar to catch the spray. I think finely misted carb cleaner and sparks in close proximity might not be such a great idea. 3. As you suggested, I used some JB Kwik on the connection between the straw and valve stem cap.

    Great video. I plan to use this method with some tips from the comments:
    1. glue the spray hose better into the cap for a better seal.
    2. use a hose clamp to hold the valve onto the injector better.
    3. use less voltage? and maybe rig up a handy switch, maybe a foot switch? to free up your hands.
    4. put the injector into a hole in a jar lid to contain the spray
    5. turn the injector over a spray backward through the other way.

    Great stuff, thankyou. My tweak on this was to make the hole in the cap with a sharp wood screw. It doesn't remove material like a drill, you can control just how much you stretch the hole by how much you twist the screw in and you can make the hole the perfect size with a little flange of plastic that melts the straw in place perfectly!

    Remember that it is best to replace the o-rings any time you remove/replace an injector. If you don't, you're practically asking for fuel leaks in the near future.

    •  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Not saying it can't happen but never had it happen to me. Just check for damage and perishing and that the O rings aren't hard.

    Cleaned my 2006 Mazda fuel injectors using your Tire Valve method. So much easier than other videos on TH-cam. We used a 9v battery and some alligator clips which made it really easy. We also didn't have to melt the straw as the hole we drilled kept the straw nice and tight. One thing I should mention is that after we cleaned the fuel injectors we noticed the o-rings (seal rings) were worn and needed to be replaced. So consider buying some new o-rings ($4) before tackling this project. Other than that this video saved me so much money. Thank you for posting

      To check the resistance of the injectors, all you need is a multimeter and you check the ohm's. They should be between 10-12ohms, might be 14, either way it doesn't really matter much, cause you can check them and get a base line, and if you have any bad injectors you will see a variation in the numbers. They are quite literally one of the easiest thing to diagnose, all you have to do is Pop the clip for the wires to the injector and touch the test leads of the multimeter directly to the injector and read the ohm's-then change any bad injectors.

    Great and useful video. Is there a common resistance value you typically find, or do you just measure all of them and eliminate the ones with unusual values? Knowing a typical range of resistance would help when testing them at the junkyard to find the keepers. When pulling them out of the vehicle you're testing, do you re-use the seals or get new ones, or is it that a call based on inspection and your experience? Thanks again for this and all of your videos.

    Excellent idea to use the valve stem and cap, I've just purchased one of those cheap injector testers (26 bucks delivered) that pulse the injector rapidly and will use your idea for the spray inlet. Thanks champ.

    I cleaned my fuel injectors using a tire valve stem, carb cleaner and a battery just as in this video. I soaked my fuel injectors in carb cleaner overnight before spraying them clean. I compared the spray pattern with a brand new fuel injector and the spray pattern was the same. This worked perfectly.

    Done. Other than the straw trying to blow off the can when the injector didn't have power, everything worked perfectly. Two of the holes were plugged. After a few shots, a few minutes and a couple more shots, the injector is clean as a whistle. Thanks again. Oh yea, the only thing I did differently was, I used high temp glue gun on the inside and outside of the valve cap. Rock solid.

    I just finished cleaning my injectors. Amazon has a cheap one on there and you just put their adapter onto the nozzle of some carb cleaner and plug your injector into the adapter and it sends rapid pulses. Works well. Best part is, once you're done just return it and get your money back

    Great video! I am going to use your tire valve adapter idea, but I am going to feed the fluid from a canister (as a sump) that I will pour cleaning fluid in and pressurize it to 55 PSI with a an electric tire pump, a tube from the bottom of the canister will connect to the adapter cap. Then run the injector at 1 second every 30 seconds for about an hour. I am thinking of putting the injection nozzle tip in a pool of cleaner and let it soak overnight first. Another commenter suggested also running the cleaner backwards through the injector. I may try that first as not to work more contaminants into the nozzle.

    • @sixtyfiveford

      @@sixtyfiveford Thanks! I was afraid of that, but I will try to be sure. Another guy shows there is a fine filter screen inside the injector (on the fuel input side). You can use a makeshift tool to pull it out, they are usually the culprit of a poorly working injector. He said you can even find replacement screens on ebay if you measure the dimensions of the ones you pull out.

    • @sixtyfiveford
      @sixtyfiveford  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@paulromsky9527 Yes. Generally I like to see how the injectors are working now before I invest any money into them. Most will clean up with carburetor cleaner after 5 to 10 cycles and they're good to go. The acetone in carburetor cleaner will dissolve solidified / varnish gasoline and clean up a clogged filter.

      @@sixtyfiveford My injectors are original in a 1987 Fiero GT. A set of 6 new ones from the Fiero Store cost about $580 USD. 7 years ago, it was running fine. Then one day I ran out of gas but was able to roll into a gas station. I filled up, but it took me a quite a few minutes to get it to start that one time after fueling, and ever since it's runs rough at idle and not smooth at higher RPMs. It has been in storage since, but today I shot some Fogging Oil in each cylinder and put in 2 gallons of fresh gas and it started right up! I mean right up, no crank, crank, crank... just turned the switch and it started in less than half a second. It still runs poorly (of course).
      A whole bunch of Chipmunk nut shells got blown out of the exhaust (I forgot to put steel wool in the ports). So now I may have a partially clogged muffler too. I plan to replace the fuel filter, and clean the injectors. I am told it can even be the fuel pump, they were not designed for more than 10 years. 7 years ago it was 28 years old so it is due. Maybe running an old pump dry briefly was enough to destroy its efficiency - running out of gas just once caused the sudden poor running (right?). A new pump is a good price but replacing it requires getting under the car and my wife won't let me creep under a car on heavy wooden blocks or concrete and back up stands. So I may have my mechanic do the filter and the pump just on their age alone. I expect the injectors will need to be replaced, but I have to try to clean them first.

    I've done basically the same thing. I use a injector pulse generator as it is safer for the coil in the injector. As a last step I turn the injector around and back flush it by spraying backwards. Really stubborn dirty injectors you can dribble carb spray in them, cap them and let them soak before spraying out.

  • @glowiever
    @glowiever 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    my local mechanic spray it from the other end, because there's a filter inside the injector, and there's dirt filtered there, so it's better to spray from the other end while energizing the injector. the crud will fall off of the intake side and the filter will be clean.
