    I’m really loving seeing this BA come along! I never really paid much attention to them but you’ve changed my mind. We had a silver BF MkII XR6 as a rental many years ago and I really loved it as a kid. My neighbour has a mint condition early 2005 BF Futura wagon in Blue Pearl, which seems to be pretty rare as it’s actually a BA colour. It’s great how there’s so much stuff that is interchangeable with Fords. Like E series looms being the same between wagons and sedans etc, everything is pre run!

    I installed the lower snorkel two weeks ago. I’d read the posts about the difficulty of reinstalling the bolt sits under the snorkel. After cutting the hole and ensuring it fitted nice and snug I then put the snorkel in hot water. Once it was hot and pliable I placed it under the headlight. Then fitted the air box back including ‘that’ bolt. You can (just) fit an extension down between the air box and the snorkel. As the snorkel was still nice pliable I then simply inserted it into the air box. Worked a treat and all three bolts are in place and looks OME.

    You should replace the catch can with an oil air seperator and have it return back to the air intake/manifold so it's fully legal...it's like a 10k fine for having a breather that vents to atmosphere and isn't subtle at all haha

    • @MotoringBoxTV
      @MotoringBoxTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Really? Perhaps I can remove the filter from the top and block off the connection.

    • @mex1848
      @mex1848 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @MotoringBox
      Remove the breather and get an adapter so the air comes through the filter inside the catch can up through the top through some tube back into the EGR port on the intake
      Or you could just an oil air seperator 😅 only found this out because I tried to do the same thing after being told it was illegal and ended up returning the catch can and buying a mishimoto seperator for my car

    • @Hapkido82AUS
      @Hapkido82AUS 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly, venting blow-by to atmosphere is an instant defect. Sealed system should be fine. Only around pre late 60s cars can vent to atmosphere (and race cars)

    • @MotoringBoxTV
      @MotoringBoxTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Was thinking the same thing, vent to atmosphere catch cans are highly illegal. Look at brands such as pro vent or ryco. I use a ryco RCC 350 on my turbo diesel and it works a treat. These catch cans have filters inside them so they actually work.

    BA was still using clips to hold the airbox together, on the FG they used torx screws. Why Ford, why????????? At least the third bolt holding the base in was deleted.

  • @HazeyAuto
    @HazeyAuto 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Back in my day, we would fit the air box first with the three bolts then fit the lower ducting afterwards. Was a bit of a squish but I imagine they must have done it at the factory.
    There was an interesting test years ago where someone removed the inner ribs of the bottom of the air box to reduce turbulence and promote smooth airflow. Another zero dollar mod that you can’t see but made a difference, albeit small.
    I’ve noticed you’re running red coolant- as it’s a cast iron block (unlike say an LS or Alloytec GM engine) it should preferably run the green stuff.

    • @MotoringBoxTV
      @MotoringBoxTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of the cans for sale didn't seem to have one. So you'd have to un-bolt the can from the car, loosen the two hose clamps and pull the thing out. Tipping it sideways should allow any oil to drain out of the two connectors. Perhaps a bit of a hassle, but I imagine it'll be something you'd only need to check every 6 months or so.

    Nice vid, I love how easy BA's are to tinker with, I modded one of the typhoon snorkels into my stock air box for my NA BA, and changed the stock plenum for a Territory one (bit thicker and less obstructive for airflow), and also installed an SS Inductions big mouth intake and modded it to fit the stock airbox, and put a K&N panel filter in, and it improved the noise a fair amount, and the response of the car ever so slightly.
    I've got an FG Intake Manifold, with fuel rail, but I need to get some injector adapters to keep my BA injectors, and either get or make an adapter plate to fit the BA throttle body onto the FG manifold (So the ECU doesn't throw a shit fit)...that is going to be my next mod, and then I am done with the CAI system, and its about as good as it can be without going with ITB's.
    Then it'll be Pacemaker headers and DEA mild-steel exhaust system, and 20% weight reduced underdrive pulleys, and a tune on 98..hoping for somewhere between 200-220rwkw.

    If not a Bigmouth and panel filter could be used on an FG....
    It's pretty easy to get an FG XR6 to F6 levels of performance...
    Bendix or DBA high performance rotors and matching pads are also a good upgrade...

    • @MotoringBoxTV
      @MotoringBoxTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think we all went through a pod filter phase - the legality is something you'll have to check as it varies by state. They need to be securely mounted at the very least, some states require them to be enclosed in a shroud of some sort. If your main goal is increased induction noise they do the job VERY well, but I wouldn't go for one if your goal is more power. For me I hate how they look in the engine bay, even with those ghetto aftermarket shrouds you can buy for some cars like the XR6T.

    As an engine reconditioner i can tell you the so called performance air filter will hurt. Iit will allow dirt and dust to enter the engine and increase ring and bore wear which will increase blowby and eventually stuff the engine. Most people will disagree with me but the proof is in the pudding and i have bored thousands of cyls over the years and seen the wear caused by washable filters. Falcon owners are lucky in the fact the falcon cyl block is much more durable than a lot of other engines in the fact they are capable of doing much higher ks before the bore wear out hence the reason they made good taxis. Ps dont be fooled by information put out by the manufacturers of these type of filters they just want to sell it. If you don't want your engine to last for years then its fine to run a washable filter so you can tell all your mates you run a high performance filter. Wank factor we call it in the trade.
