    Well diagnosed the idle sounds so smooth. This is still one of the best channels on TH-cam.

      It's beautiful mate. The first start was impressive as you could hear how the rev's progressively settled down as the Haltech refined the idle.

    For a 99% stock car, with what's considered an 'overpriced overkill' ecu upgrade.
    It's all but paid for itself already by you being able to do this kind of thing in the software at home rather than spending money going to a tuner every time you make a small modification

    • @MotoringBoxTV
      @MotoringBoxTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It probably hasn't paid for itself yet - eventually it will! But the convenience and tinkering ability is fantastic. Plus you can always take it with you to a new car so long as it runs the Barra loom.

    Let this be an example for all those out there that think being a mechanic today is easier than it was in the 70s.
    "The computer tells them everything nowadays".... Like dicks it does 😅
    Any true mechanical issue will not throw a fault diagnosing it, and electrical issues normally provide a fault that points in the right direction.
    I love how you're honest in your videos and show the hole journey. I'm a mechanic and I watch a lot of videos where everything just works. This is the reality of doing anything for the first time.

    This is amazing software.I think ForScan has function to recode injectors if you replace one on some vehicle withouth recoding parts car wont be able to start,but Ford Falcons injectors can be removed and replaced withouth recoding and ECU will recognise them.

    Well done Sean a great repair I did wonder if it was fuel starvation but wasn’t 100% that engine is sounding sweet now

    • @MotoringBoxTV
      @MotoringBoxTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To me it makes sense. It'd just die in the ass after a second or two and there was nothing you could do about it. The dead time figures of the stock injectors were a lot less, so the ECU would be opening them for less time thinking the fuel was beginning to spray almost twice as quick as it really was.

    Ooh she runs like a dream! Glad you found the problem. Sounds awesome.
    If I were to guess what that Engine Position code is all about, I would say it logged the fault while stumbling, in your footage the engine spun backwards then forwards a few degrees when it finally came to a stall, and maybe the Haltech wasn't expecting that unusual input from the crank position sensor. That's just my guess though, I'm just glad to see the car up and running, can't wait to see it tuned!

    i was literally about to say injector dead times but i just read the comment saying someone else said that kek. Injector dead times are generally measured in ms afaik and scale with battery voltage too meaning you need more dead time for less voltage

    • @MotoringBoxTV
      @MotoringBoxTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, makes sense! I am glad it was such an easy fix.

    • @scootbmx01
      @scootbmx01 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MotoringBoxTV yeah man it's something that's easily overlooked too. Having that engine code probably didn't help either. But yeah the injector doesn't have the same power to open and close at say 12v as it does at 14v, so it's the dead times job to keep the fuel flow and control the same regardless of voltage, which varies as you found out from injector to injector. They also vary for fuel pressure as well as obviously the latency of an injector affects the total fuel delivered to the cylinder during a cycle of the injector being fired.

    I wish you did a BOV install tutorial. I'm thinking about getting the same one as you and there aren't really any videos of BA BOV installations :/

    • @MotoringBoxTV
      @MotoringBoxTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hmmm I could, it's pretty easy though in truth. The hardest part is taking the crossover piece off (which I've shown before a few times). You pretty much just have to look at how the stock BOV is plumbed in, then just remove it and install the new one in the same way.

    • @ashcosmo3854
      @ashcosmo3854 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MotoringBoxTV Argh I was hoping you didn't have to remove the crossover lol.. I do like how the BOV's are quite concealed on the BA's though.. makes the defect a little harder to find. Did you have any problems with full throttle gear changes ? I hear the ECU is expecting air back into the intake but when it's vented it creates a rich possible misfire ?

    • @SHOCKcustoms
      @SHOCKcustoms 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ashcosmo3854 remove and block off the bov. You'll get better power

    • @MotoringBoxTV
      @MotoringBoxTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't have thought an atmosphere BOV would affect a car like the XR6T because the map sensor is right in the intake manifold just before the air goes into the engine. The BOV is releasing pressure that builds up in the intake pipe when the throttle body slams shut... air which hasn't even reached the manifold yet. So whether it releases that air back into the start of the intake, or out into the atmosphere... the engine and the ECU wouldn't see any difference. On cars that have a MAF sensor right at the start of the air intake (before the turbo) would definitely be affected by this - the R34 GTT I used to own had that issue.
      But the BOV I have is a plumbed in one and doesn't vent to atmosphere.

    • @SHOCKcustoms
      @SHOCKcustoms 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MotoringBoxTV they leak under boostages. Hence tuners remove them and block them off. Have had this done on several of my barra turbos. Unless you run a race series bov etc. The back pressure through the filter sounds cool too 🤙
      The block offs are 25mm rubber chair feet from Bunnings and a hose clamp! Works perfectly
