For some reason if the top round in the mag is on the left with a round already in the chamber the first shot fired will cause a malfunction . If the first round on the top of the mag is on the right hand side of the mag with a round already in the chamber there will be no malfunction in firing the whole mag.

I have a loading tool and my malfunction rate is nil for rimfire (1/250) when I use it. Ironically, for me the Winchester Super X Is the “problem child.” Thanks for the video.
I purchased my PMR30 when they first came out. Initially I had a problem with Winchester DynaPoint ammo, probably a bad couple of boxes. Since then I have a little over 2000 rounds through it with only one failure to feed. I had a magazine that somehow got a crack in it which prevented the last round in the mag from loading. I like the PMR so much that I bought a CMR30 and have over 1000 rounds through it without a problem.
I just bought a new PMR30 today. Ran 120 40 grain CCI mini mags through it. At least 1 in 10 failed to eject. No other issues and still enjoyed shooting it. I'm hoping it will smooth out with use.

Thanks for the honest review, James. I have a brand new one in the safe and I am going to get me a few different boxes of ammo and see how mine does. I think you was a little off on it just being a 22 because a 22 mag will put a hurt on someone if like you said you put a round somewhere critical. Once again, I respect your honesty. I did not know that if you have an unbearable problem KEL-TEC will work with you on getting it fixed, as it should be. Thank-you, friend. I just usually put like 28 rounds in mine cause it is really difficult for me to get 30 in each clip.
My PMR has only had 4 or 5 miss feed jam. It is the newer version, all the jams wear from the 30 grn range, all 40 grn had been perfect, only 500 rds so far. Very satisfied.
I have 2 of the PMR 30's. Bought the first one when they first came out. It was problematic, mostly ftf. Being bullheaded, I refused to send it back. I did a little polishing on it and it works 99% of the time now. Bought my second one about a year ago. No issues with it. Never had a light primer strike with either one.
I purchased the pmr30 last month, and it had a few hiccups when i was breaking in the magazines, but all in all it is a great little magnum, 10 out of 10 with mag capacity and weight of the firearm, i get excited taking my pmr to the range for targeting and plinking.
I just purchased my PMR30 last December and so far I'm trying very hard to get this gun to malfunction! I don't know what I'm doing wrong but right out of the box, it has been flawless. I have about 300 rounds threw this gun and I shoot 3 mags every week at my Local gun range! Maybe as I keep shooting more rounds, it will start to Malfunction like I have seen in some of these videos and then again It may Never Malfunction. I now have 2 P17's, one CP33 and one PMR30 and they all just refuse to Malfunction! OK, I lied little because I did have a few Dud Rounds and one Failure to Eject in over 2000 rounds! Oh well nothing is perfect, so I will have to just Live With It!
I am no stranger to sarcasm sir. I hope my video did not come across as critical of PMR line. The vast majority work very well and tje few that do not get a quick trip back, then work good forever. Light primer strikes is very odd, but I agree with you. I have sold 100s of these and have had only a few issues.
OK, but no Sarcasm this time. After posting this, I started to experience several FTF which I thought I corrected but then my Firing Pin Broke! I called Kel-Tec and they sent me a new firing Pin which I replaced, with the help of TH-cam Instructions! I tested it at my LGR and of 100 rounds, I had 3 FTF but I will continue to keep shooting at my LGR once every week and time will tell if other problems happen! Thanks for your reply and good luck! @@RattlesnakeDefense
Mine had lots of failures to feed and failures to eject. I had the dealer I purchased it from send it back to Kel Tec. Since I got it back it has been very reliable (provided the magazines are loaded properly). I tried several different speed loaders, but what seems to work best for me is to carefully hand load the magazine, tapping the back of it against the table every 4 or 5 rounds. I just need to show patience because it takes a while to load 30 rounds that way.
I appreciate a good unbiased review. You had plenty of problems but still managed to look on the bright side. I'm sure once you got it fixed, it turned out to be a great pistol.
Brother, your review of the Keltec PMR30 is Spot On! Accurate and detailed video display! Thank you, very much. My PMR30 has 2 mags run through it, and I have had the exact same experience you did. Another video suggested oiling all moving parts first, which I will do also....carefully. Thanks, again!
I tend to run my autos a bit on the wet side, especially to keltec's and they run fine.I have a PMR,CMR, P17,and Sub 2k. I run them all wet and they all run well.
Guys are saying put your ammo in a cup and spray dry teflon on the bullets before loading them. Break the gun down lube everything. Open the mags and lube moving parts. Check firing pin to make sure top screws x4 are not over tightened and the pin isn’t staying in the fired position and not retracting. If so clean lube to. Don’t over do it. Also use a speed loader to align those long bullets correctly. Making sure each one rim is in front of the next one not behind it. Load the whole 30 when storing magazine ware that spring out a bit it’s better in this case.
We have 2 of the 2nd gen pmr 30s. They’ve both been flawless with several types of ammo, when loaded correctly as per the instructions. We do use a Lula loader for them. Armscore has been flawless with 40gr SP. Hornady , Winchester , CCI, all have worked with no issues. For the first 100rnds we did load only 25 to let the pistol cycle and break in some. It works fine with 30 now , but we still usually load 25-28 rnds. The originals seemed to have mag issues, 2nd gen I think they’ve been resolved.
This pistol requires 40 grain high velocity ammo, the three types you tested did not meet the specifications to reliably cycle the action. However, loading the magazine correctly is tricky, most failures are a result of the magazine not properly loaded. It is crucial that each round is pushed all the back into the magazine, tap the mag ever 5 rounds or so and it will reliably cycle. I went ahead and ordered the Magula speed loader for the PMR30 and it is a game changer. All rounds are pushed all the way to rear and they all cycle properly. The light primer strikes is an issue that Kel-Tec will have to fix for you. It's a pretty awesome gun, mine is 100% reliable with Winchester super X and CCI 40 grain Maxi-Mags. Good luck to you.
A well broke in PMR will shoot most standard power mag ammo. The mag load is tricky, but Kel Tec did take good care of me on the repair, and it works very well now.
FYI KelTec has come out with a firing pin revision, and I am convinced that it will solve most if not all problems when it comes to light strikes. In the end, between loading the mags perfectly (using the Lula speed loader it's impossible to load it anything but perfectly) and using the "right" ammo (40gr MaxiMag or 45gr Critical Defense) the gun can be made to be 99%+ reliable. You can also tweak the gun via mcarbo stuff, but you also can add reliability by get an RJ Feddersen threaded barrel. The added 1" or so of barrel length seems to allow the gun to cycle with lighter rounds like 30gr V-Max.
With rimfire bullets in a clip make sure that each subsequent bullet's lip is in front of the previous bullets lip and not behind. This ensures flawless feeding and performance.
I had the same dud crap when I got my PMR30. But, after I cleaned it and put CLR in all the RIGHT places, it runs like clockwork. And I had the same problems with my CMR30 and I followed my same clean and lube with CLR it too runs great now.
As much as I like it I have been torn over getting the pmr-30 or the S&W .22 msg. I can only afford 1-2 guns a year so I can’t afford to have something that shoots when it wants. I have wanted a .22 mag since my dad had his 1956 Ruger .22 mag which I loved that revolver and it’s round up
That's a hard one. Keep in mind, even in my comments, people still love the PMR even with the flaws. It's a very unique pistol with unique challenges. If it helps, the pistol in the video runs fine now.
After mine came back it worked fine. Use the ammo they recommend. May work better if you only load about 25. Also don’t forget the Keltec cmr30 uses the same mags, a big plus, and mine came with a threaded barrel. Finally be careful how you load the mag. If you dent the casing it will have feed issues. Take your time loading the mag. Mine works fine. Also note: Keltec warns against using a suppressor on the pmr 30 but actually provides a threaded barrel on the Cmr 30. Go figure. Nice vid.
This has become my carry pistol. That's an achievement since I had considered getting rid of it. Fails to feed was my vexation. Guess what I was loading the magazine improperly and once I got an education from KelTec rep on that.....POOF no more fails or very rarely....Love this pistol now!
Light primer strikes? Check your firing pin. My pmr30 had the firing pin break. I ordered a replacement from Keltec. They sent an improved pin. They were cheap so I ordered 3! No problem now.
Every video on this gun I've watched has shown that the ones who have trouble are the ones who ignore Keltec's ammunition recommendation. I don't get it. Would you buy a car that requires high octane gas and use regular?
My pmr eats anything high velocity... loves the v max ..loves the Hornady critical defense rounds loves the a22 35 grain. As long as it's not a broad hollow point it eats it right up and I've never had q light primer... not 1... maybe a couple stove pipes.
I have 2. I only shoot the federal 50gr HP. That's what mine likes best. 100% reliable so far. I have 2 CMR 30' they are also great. I just wish they would make them in 17HMR.
Appreciate how upfront you were, and addressed problems on camera. This review showed 2 years ago. Can you report any changes? I’ve read mixed reviews on Kel-Tec customer service. Are they still responsive to legitimate customer complaints? Also, how many mags are included in a new purchase? Thank you for an excellent review! People remember objectivity and honesty.
I too am dealing with the same issues EVEN after spending $250 on MCADO's fix kit. Serious LOVE Hate issue. Would love ONE video on how to fix the issue. Thank you for being honest. Respect
Mine runs good, after I put about $200.00 worth of after market parts in it. Now I have a S&W M&P 22 mag that has some problems, but it is getting better with a break in of over 200 rounds, but I still have my Kel-Tec PMR 30.
My PMR loves Armscor, CCI, Fiocchi ; but hates Winchester. The 1st 200 rounds it was a learning experience figuring out which ammo works best but once you find it the right one the gun tends to be 99% reliable. I got mine around 2015 and to date has not let me down. As long you keep it clean and load the right ammo as indicated on the manual, you should be able to shoot this gun reliably.
I had one and it was a straight shooter. But it needed cleaned about every 50 rounds. I think the ammo was most of it. 22WMR seems extra dirty. But i had a lot of FTF,, FTE,, and some fails to fire. Also the ill fitting mag was some of the problem. So i traded it for something else. Thank you for the video.
I have handled hundreds of PMRs and all of them have about a 3.5 to 4lb trigger pull. Was there something wrong with yours or was it the 50 state legal trigger perhaps?
I have the PMR 30 and I bought it five or six years ago. The only true issue that I have with it is the loading of the magazines. If you load it by hand, I guarantee you’re going to have fee problems if you load it with the little loader almost no problemspolish that feed ramp, especially if you’re gonna use hollowpoint ammo
Hey mate, great vid yeah. I found that these updated PMR30s have a more precision manufactured hammer spring, resulting in closer tolerances in length and tension. Some of the earlier ones would get a weak spring, right, resulting in poor hammer performance. It's a bit of a balancing act to get the exact hammer impact from correct spring tension, without effecting slide cycle efficiency, which directly effects ejection. They finally got it right and mine works like a center fire all day long. Stay safe mate, cheers!!
I have two of these. One is black and the other is OD Green. I have discovered that they can be finicky at times. But they are definitely fun to shoot. The OD green was a fair amount more. And they are a bit loud.
I've had one for years. Are the lugs on top for RDS? I thought they were just the lugs for the rear composite piece?? I know some other 22 Mag pistols have accessory spots but I dont think thats what those lugs are for on this pistol. Your video's are good. Like the no BS approach. Keep it up!
Had very little failure to fire with mine. I always attempt to try the round again a few times and it appears that you just get some bad rounds that wont fire
I seen several reviews of this model. The gun itself has had most of it's problems worked out and users find it reliable. Like most slide guns it can be finicky about the ammo and several brands and loads need to be tried to see what works in each gun. It is hammer fired and the light primer strikes indicates it needs a stronger spring which if Kel-Tec does not address then someone in the after market will offer one. The weak point is it's magazine. Seems you need to practice proper loading it correctly. T requires loading a certain procedure and way. After every few rounds you have to tap the mag to make sure they are seated against their base. That and alternating how they are pushed into the mag side to side. I would like to add one of these to my inventory.
start a new pmr30 off with copper plate round nose 40 grain to break in... mine liked the winchester.. had mine for 3-4 yrs.. it is to the point now can shoot hollow points thru it.. love the keltec's.. own and bought a few.. #2-p-17's [.22lr semi auto].. and 2-pmr 30's..
Mine was crap at first . But if you look at the clio it has a little bit of play in it , I fixed that and I can shoot any ammo with little to NO hang ups !! It shoots 35 grain polymer tips all the way to 45 grain hollow points and everything in between . Love my gun now !!
love mine but here in illinois they just passed a law that outlawed mags over 10 rounds. so my question is can i buy a 5 or 10 round mags for this gun? tia
Just did a search of all my distributors, Kel Tec does not make anything other than 30 rounds for this handgun. However, I cant post a link here per youtube rules, if you do a quick search on google, you can find some modified magazines that will work for you. Good luck.
People don't understand 22 magnum is a very underrated round, its always has been. it punches very deep for a tiny bullet a 40 or more grain bullet, moving at 1875 to 2200 muzzle speeds and punching over 12 to 16in OR MORE. Its more than enough to put somebody down, especially if you have a 30 of themor less even. I don't understand why people compare it to a 22 long rifle, when it's far superior in penetration.
I love the pmr 30 Only had a couple issues I probably put close to 1000 rounds through it. I like it. I think it just needs to be worked out clean oil you know break it in good I just like it.
I went from sending many back for feeding issues, to only sending a few. It seems to have made several improvements and made it much better for the same money.
I had one of these, but I suffer from the dreaded "big hands syndrome". I could barely get through a magazine without hitting the mag release with my palm. If they redesigned that I'd probably get another. I didn't experience any of the light primer strikes or any other issues.
I like the idea that you can carry in your back pack a thousand rounds 22 wmr without suffering much weight on your shoulders. Especially when sh*t hits the fan and you need to keep moving.
I bought mine 3 years ago and it shoots everything I load in it. Never had a misfire. I did screw up loading the mag once and hopped the rim behind the rim on the previous round, they won't feed that way. 😂
I went ahead and got the All-In-One PRO bundle kit ($249). Had I'd known about the aluminum alloy frame model then I'd be $150 ahead right now. Still love my PMR though.
Not on the primary market. Due to the design of the PMR, a suppressor would increase the gas volume and lead to reliability issues. It would be nice, might have to look into the WMP design.
Do you know anything about the aluminum model that is more readily available at Academy than the polymer model which is always out of stock? It costs about $100 more, and I'm not sure if it would be worth the extra cost.
I'd never seen that until you mentioned it, and I went and looked it up. That's odd as heck. I'd love to get a hold of one and run it through the ringer.
I’m honestly done with KelTec. Had my friend over and my RDB, KS7, and P17 all repeatedly malfunctioned ruining lots of fun. You know what didn’t? The Zastava m85. Now I understand the saying “Friends don’t let friends buy Kel-Tec.”
Thanks. Did you read the manual? Youre not using the types of ammo they recommend and you are also not seating the rounds correctly by checking they are pushed all the way back and tapping the magazine every 4th or 5th round to make sure they are properly seated as the manual suggests. This is user error. Please read the manual before operation.
I have sold these guns, handled them and fired them for over a decade. Nothing you mentioned would cause a light primer strike. I made this channel for educational purposes, and random and odd failures are a fact of anything as complicated as a semi auto handgun. I am a certified armorer and have instructor training. I have spoken to Kel Tec about many of their weapons that we have sent back for repair, over 100 over the years. I trust them to make it right and they did, not by telling me to read the manual, but by repairing the malfunctioning firing pin and spring. You have to get your hands dirty to get a full feel for these guns and the various brands involved in the firearms industry. I am here to just show the real world use of this and many other firearms, both good and bad.
@@RattlesnakeDefense ok. I’m just going by the video KelTec themselves put out showing how to load the magazines and he specifically says if you don’t do it the way shown, you will get malfunctions.
I understand, but as I dont have any particular loyalty to any given brand, I have no reason to mislead. That being said, this is very unusual for a PMR. Most issues I have seen are jamming problems, and about half of those have been user error.
Mine still gets a round jammed in sideways at least once or twice ever mag. I sent it to them once and they replace the ejector and barrel and said it works flawlessly. Sent it back and it’s still doing it. I have put Mcarbo feed ramp, enhanced guide rod spring, flat trigger, mag release and it still FFE every mag. I’m really wanting this gun to run but mine sucks Biden.

I purchased the pmr30 last month, and it had a few hiccups when i was breaking in the magazines, but all in all it is a great little magnum, 10 out of 10 with mag capacity and weight of the firearm, i get excited taking my pmr to the range for targeting and plinking.
Good honest delivery... Thanks for the heads up.
Thank you for being kind.
Good info.
I appreciate a good unbiased review. You had plenty of problems but still managed to look on the bright side. I'm sure once you got it fixed, it turned out to be a great pistol.
It did indeed, thank you.
I really like his work style and he seems very honest and very professional.
Thank you, I am glad that your happy with my content.
Got the LULA PMR-30 and it loads the mags perfectly. Plus now you can load fast too. Can't wait to go to the range and see if my jams disappear.
There is also a steel feed ramp available now
There is a steel feed ramp available now to
With rimfire bullets in a clip make sure that each subsequent bullet's lip is in front of the previous bullets lip and not behind.
I like your non-nonsence and straightforward take on things. Honesty is such a rare bird to see fly in todays skies.
Thank you much, I sold guns for 20 years and just want people to make an informed decision with their money.
I went from 1911 to the PMR, weight, high cap mag, close to same damage as 9mm.
Mine runs like a champ
I have 2. I only shoot the federal 50gr HP. That's what mine likes best. 100% reliable so far. I have 2 CMR 30' they are also great. I just wish they would make them in 17HMR.
I agree
Just bought one ,put 20 rounds through it had no issues.paid 399.00 really going to like it.
I think you will love it. Very unique and practical pistols.
They have gotten much better. Customer service was very good, pretty fast turn around. 2 mags. Thank you.
Mine like Speer 40 grain it doesn’t like 30 grain thanks for the review
Thanks for your honest demonstration of the gun on csmera.
I have a Gen 2 and run Armscor through it with NO problem’s.
Thank you for the honest review.
I too am dealing with the same issues EVEN after spending $250 on MCADO's fix kit. Serious LOVE Hate issue. Would love ONE video on how to fix the issue. Thank you for being honest. Respect
I have one, its never fired a full mag without a hiccup
I have one with no issues using 40gr and upgraded recoil spring and running synthetic dielectric grease for lubrication
Mine runs good, after I put about $200.00 worth of after market parts in it. Now I have a S&W M&P 22 mag that has some problems, but it is getting better with a break in of over 200 rounds, but I still have my Kel-Tec PMR 30.
great honest review - I really like the lock "hack" I will be using that for sure! thanks
Happy to help
My PMR loves Armscor, CCI, Fiocchi ; but hates Winchester. The 1st 200 rounds it was a learning experience figuring out which ammo works best but once you find it the right one the gun tends to be 99% reliable. I got mine around 2015 and to date has not let me down. As long you keep it clean and load the right ammo as indicated on the manual, you should be able to shoot this gun reliably.
Adding the M-Carbo Keltec PMR-30 All in One pro bundle took care of a lot of the problems!!!!!!
i just bought a PMR 30 and CCI MAXI MAG 40GR jhp all fired fine and fast as you want
The PMR-30 has like a 50-pound trigger pull and that's why I sold it one week after purchasing it!
Their customer service is great
Thank you
Yes it is
I have two of these.
I would suggest taking the cover off of the top, and make sure that tiny roll pin insnt dragging. I believe thats your issue.
This is all very true, good info.
Grendel P 30 was fine . 30 or 40 gr. Worked . It works with CCI MAXI40 gr.
start a new pmr30 off with copper plate round nose 40 grain to break in... mine liked the winchester.. had mine for 3-4 yrs.. it is to the point now can shoot hollow points thru it.. love the keltec's.. own and bought a few.. #2-p-17's [.22lr semi auto].. and 2-pmr 30's..
did you tap the mag once loaded to set the rounds to back of the magazine wall
Let's not forget the early model that keyholed !
Growing pains ?
I try to give a brand new platform a bit of room to settle in. There were a few issues on the way, but they stayed the course.
Mine was crap at first . But if you look at the clio it has a little bit of play in it , I fixed that and I can shoot any ammo with little to NO hang ups !! It shoots 35 grain polymer tips all the way to 45 grain hollow points and everything in between . Love my gun now !!
Mine seems to like 40gr CCI so I just buy them when I find them and don't bother with the lighter stuff
I've only used cci ammo and have never had an issue
Put the Kel-Tec upgrade kit in it
What's the hat ur wearing in this video & where can i find one please? It's very nice!
Condor Tacticsl in coyote brown. Should be everywhere on the internet.
love mine but here in illinois they just passed a law that outlawed mags over 10 rounds. so my question is can i buy a 5 or 10 round mags for this gun?
I had an old AMT 22 magnum jammed all the time great idea get fired the best with the aguila 22 Magnum in the Winchester 22 Magnum
Couldn't a heavier striker fix the lite primer hits?
It did, A trip back to Kel Tec got her running fine, just needed some adjustments.
Guess you never heard of the ten second rule of hangfire?
I wish Kel TEC would make a subcompact version of the PMR 30 .Maybe a PMR 15 or a PMR 10 .
22WMR needs the barrel length; otherwise it’s basically a 22LR.
The magazine must be loaded according to the instructions or it will jam and Miss feed
I love the pmr 30 Only had a couple issues I probably put close to 1000 rounds through it. I like it. I think it just needs to be worked out clean oil you know break it in good I just like it.
Any comments about the improved 2nd generation of this item?
I went from sending many back for feeding issues, to only sending a few. It seems to have made several improvements and made it much better for the same money.
I had one of these, but I suffer from the dreaded "big hands syndrome". I could barely get through a magazine without hitting the mag release with my palm. If they redesigned that I'd probably get another. I didn't experience any of the light primer strikes or any other issues.
The decision to use a mag release at the back of the grip is an odd choice. Not a good fix for that.
I like the idea that you can carry in your back pack a thousand rounds 22 wmr without suffering much weight on your shoulders. Especially when sh*t hits the fan and you need to keep moving.
I have a Ruger 22 target pistol that has 0 light primer strikes
I bought mine 3 years ago and it shoots everything I load in it. Never had a misfire. I did screw up loading the mag once and hopped the rim behind the rim on the previous round, they won't feed that way. 😂
Put a Kel Tec Pro kit in one. Done. The buffer bushings are weak. Replace, repeat.
Do you think the MCARBO upgrade would be useful, for example, stiffer recoil spring ?
Thanks
I may have to try that.
I went ahead and got the All-In-One PRO bundle kit ($249). Had I'd known about the aluminum alloy frame model then I'd be $150 ahead right now. Still love my PMR though.
Is it accurate enough to use on small game in a pinch rabbits or a squirrel preferably head shots
That is going to depend on the individual gun, I have seen some that shoot that well. Not all.
I never saw you Tapp the mag down
Is there a threaded barrel available for a suppressor?
Not on the primary market. Due to the design of the PMR, a suppressor would increase the gas volume and lead to reliability issues. It would be nice, might have to look into the WMP design.
Do you know anything about the aluminum model that is more readily available at Academy than the polymer model which is always out of stock? It costs about $100 more, and I'm not sure if it would be worth the extra cost.
I'd never seen that until you mentioned it, and I went and looked it up. That's odd as heck. I'd love to get a hold of one and run it through the ringer.
I agree, never saw one. Need to aquire and try one.
@@RattlesnakeDefense I will be waiting for the video revue.
I have 2 of them and both run flawless! They eat anything that I put in them!
When you get a brand new one, they have to be cleaned and lubbed because they come out of the box dry.
Break in is important, proper loading, cleaning and lube. Kel Tec will get it working perfectly.
Kel Tec took good care of it. They have very good customer service from a dealer standpoint as well.
This gun has been around many years now and they should have the “issues” worked out by now. I understand you will have problems but this is ongoing to say the least…
I cant wait to get one then im gonna get the cmr 30.
