Weird Al, a man whose career has outlasted most of those he parodied.
So damn true!!!!! And led a cleaner. Safer and smarter family life.
But paradoxically, his fame never led him to non-english-spoking country. So sad to see that in EU he is not so known
So so true
Nobody would of bet on that 20 years ago
His nerd following is strong.
The fact that this isn't parody... just a straight-up cover...speaks volumes...
it just shows how talented he really is
HAHAHA! Oh it's DEFINITELY a parody! It's just a beautifully sung/played one! Al (RUBBER MAN) should give you the hint!

Just found out this existed... And now I think Weird Al needs to be the next Superbowl headliner.
Absolutely. No Wardrobe Malfunctions though...
With all parodies of previous Superbowl halftime acts...
Weird Al should be the only halftime show of the super bowl...from now on...
How do we make this happen?
It was tried several years ago. A petition was circulating, but nothing came of it. It would have been the best halftime show of all time.
I stood in line to get into San Diego Comic Con behind Weird Al about 20-25 years ago (wasn’t a long line, like 10 mins), super nice guy. Totally humble, friendly, was just there as a general person not in a panel or at a booth or anything, just joked around with the people in line around him, and then waved and went on his way like a normal person. Total class act.
Lucky!!

His high notes in “I bless the rains down in Africa” gave it away for me, but you’re right. The high kick and accordion also were massive hints.
Seeing him hit those power chords felt wrong....
lol hellyeah man.
Brian Setzer (the musician) once seriously stated that Weird Al was the most talented musician he’s ever heard, due to the fact that he parodies nearly every single genre and dozens of artists and he excels at performing all of their styles.
Tons of his original songs are excellent too.
In spite of that, I still think Weird Al is quite talented

Couldn't have said it any better, and the best part is Al is the SAME person he was 40 years ago!! I still remember hearing him on the late night Dr. Demento show before his career started!!! Awesome times!!!

I need you to know, me too. I’m stoned.
I thought something was wrong... he didn't look right, but I seriously fell for the "he's on keyboard of course" ruse.
Thinking the same, awesomeness
Its weird because Weird Al is not weird here at all.
I like to believe that when Weird Al walked in to film this, he was like
"Alright, guys. How do you want to do this?"
To which they replied
"Start with your best impression of Rivers. And as the song goes on, just slowly become Weird Al. Then when the keyboard solo hits, everybody just lose their minds. Sound good?"
And voila, we have Africa by Weezer
Nickolas Watson That has to be exactly what happened & I love it!

I know I laughed out loud when the great Al did it out of the blue he is a genius clown I love his brain❤
I threw my back out just watching that. 😆
I actually sat in a radio station waiting room with a young fella with weird hair back in ‘81 or so. I was there to interview for a DJ gig (I wound up being hired by the other major rock station in the market), and he was there to plug (in person) this Dr. Demento cut called Another One Rides the Bus. (That station played the single, but passed on me; the other station hired me, but refused to play Weird Al. The takeaway? Weird Al is known to the cognoscenti as one of the most creative artists of his generation, and I use a public platform to comment on him. Oh, and neither radio station exists in the same form it did. Oh - and just two years older than he, I couldn’t even think about doing that kick even as a one-take.)
I think its important to note that Weird Al isn't singing the actual song, that's Rivers. Al is playing Rivers **in the music video**.
Very important 😂

Weird Al dressed as Rivers Cuomo from the Buddy Holly video lip syncing Weezer covering Africa by Toto while parodying the video for Undone(the sweater song). So meta.

So many layers
They should have included the dogs from the Undone video.

Is that James Franco playing Wissau again?
Passed up the golden opportunity to have Rivers come in dressed as Weird Al for the accordion part
Chris Martin I thought that was going to happen
Passed up on having rick Astley entering the stage.
How meta would that be? Kurt Cobain dressed as Rivers Cuomo dressed as Weird Al Yankovich. And he plays the solo from Smells Like Nirvana.
Weird Al deserves some kind of lifetime achievement award
All that talent coming out of one mind = sensational. So when he came around in late 70's , i figured he would be a trivia question by 1988.

Next you're going to tell me that guy isn't really playing the drums while running around his kit...
hearing rivers voice and seeing yankovic is really uncanny
Pepsy Yeah it’s pretty damn weird.
The Wanderer ahhh I see what you did here you sly devil
Ljacfl the funny thing is I didn’t mean to do it. The puns literally make themselves.
OK Al!!!! I saw Toto in Seattle so long ago that no one knew who they were. They were the number 2 opener for Pink Floyd, when no one knew who they were either. Toto blew me away, and now all these years later, your cover of their song is probably as good or better than theirs. Be well, and live forever!
Not better. Slo down hoss! Nothing beats their studio recorded version. Nothing!
I ❤ pink floyd
Toto is underrated
I saw Pink Floyd twice in 1973 with the release of Darkside Of The Moon and they were both sold out shows with no one else on the bill. They were big in NE Ohio before that with earlier albums. I can't imagine Pink Floyd concerts at least 5 years later (1978 was when Toto's first was released--I own the album and always liked them) where Pink Floyd was sharing a bill with someone else, anyone else, and no one knew who they were. That shocks me. Yeah, and this is a great cover. You sh6ould look up the backstory of how Weezer's cover even came about. (I've also liked Weezer from the beginning.)
Really impressed with this cover.
For every ten years we age, Weird Al ages one.
Lol
Holy accurate
Dude is almost 60!!
20 years ago, he was 20 years older than me. Today, I am older than he is.
At first I was like Weird Al pretending to be Rivers was a waste of Weird Al but then the weird dancing happened and I was like... THIS. This is the content I came here for.
the *continent** you came here for
SAME
Acting like a goofball for 3 seconds for the sake of the video doesn't change the audio. It's not a parody, but an actual good rendition of the song. Think of what you'd hear in your car if you were to download it to iTunes.
What's wrong with Weezer??
Vane H I actually didn’t notice that it wasn’t Rivers. Spot on makeup.
It took me like more then halfway into the song wondering "When does Al come in?" before I realized that was him singing the whole time. God without his signature hair I am face blind to him lol
weird al really brings it all together.

I feel like somebody had a dream, then they described that dream to someone and that someone was god and he made it so and here it is.
The dreamer was a 13 year old girl in Cleveland, the god was Twitter.
H
Wow you've just described exactly what I feel with Adult Swim shorts
@@Margar02 Like I said.
Man, no one moves like Weird Al.
At least, not by choice...
I was already giggling when he hit that high kick... then I saw this and LOL'd. great comment.
That's what clearly makes this music video worth seeing.
Best Comment. Lol
Yeah, I might be able to move like him if I had a spider in my shirt =)
you get the award for the funniest comment under that video
He's playing four dimensional chess with his weirdness. Genius.
The world is a far better place, for the fact that Weird Al exists.
That high kick was done by a sixty year old man. Timeless
Is He seriously 60!? Im looking.
@@craighauk3745N o p e . He's 48.
@@CommonSenseWarrior37 Wrong. Al was 58 when this video was released; he turned 59 on October 23, 2018. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/"Weird_Al"_Yankovic
But then it has been well established that Weird Al is no mere man.
If I were to do that, I'd be like that character Fred from SpongeBob. My leg! My leg!
For all that is holy, induct Weird Al into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame already!
He's not in it already? If true, that is a sin that needs to be immediately atoned for.
th-cam.com/video/_c5FD3N5uK0/w-d-xo.html
Yes ! Induct Weird Al now ( and Connie Francis too )
What about the Polka Hall of Fame? (both are in Cleveland)
@@MJM804 Sorry not even the Polka Hall of Fame.
I never knew that was Weird Al on vocals in this song. My dude killed it. What a legend.
It's not Weird Al. It's the lead singer of Weezer. Weird Al is just in the music video to make this cover even more legendary with the video.
First time I saw this, I thought Al was the keyboard player. BUT THAT'S THE TWIST. Brilliant.
Totally.😊
