Scotty Kilmer don’t know if you will reply, but I bought a new motor on my Prelude for my passenger side. I’m getting power on my switch that shows it goes up and down. Motor is brand new. Still showing sign that it goes down but not up. The driver side doesn’t do anything to make the passenger side go up or down. Could it be the driver side that’s the issue for both? (Driver side window works fine).

I took my 4 year old car with only 40,000 miles to a body shop after something hit the windshield putting a smash in it and then damaged the driver’s door (I never saw a thing). The sleezy repair guy (recommended by my insurance agent) stole my entire car and put its vin into a similar vehicle that had been in a flood and looked like it had been used as a dog house in a salvage. Cops wouldn’t even take a report, couldn’t even talk to da without a police report, tried for over 2 years to find an attorney. Only justice I got was the insurance agent going to prison over unrelated but worse crime involving child porn. I’m a woman, but I’ll watch every TH-cam video before I’ll ever take my car, my mower, or anything I can possibly maintain or repair myself to a repair person. Scotty is one of my favorites and there are a few others that explain everything so well, even us ladies can usually fix it.

If you're prepared to get really handy with a DIY kit then the old model Mazda MX5's (the MK1s) are reliable and easy to work on. Scotty is right to mention chronic problems though as they are prone to bodywork problems if not well maintained and almost all of your buying experience for one of those will be spent looking for healthy bodywork, particularly around the sills. There are other chronic problems but the very healthy community for the car means you can solve almost anything.

Sorry, I don't know much about regulators, but obviously learning quickly. Maybe once I pull it apart I'll see what you mean, but will the radiator clamps be used just to get the window up or to keep the windows in the up position? Meaning that the clamps will be the only reason it goes up AND STAYS up?

generally the driver control switch assembly goes bad, check that first. If power goes into it, it's bad. If not, find the short going to the switch and fix that

Situations like this are why I prefer manual crank windows. However, this video helped a lot for my old Cadillac.

a sticking window can do that. Spray silicone spray lube on the front and back of the glass where it rides on the ridge in the door frame, that often helps. If not, you need a new motor

If you're talking about one of those cold air intake filter things, I advise against it, as it can make them run worse due to changing air flow patterns and incompatible software.

Thanks for the reply, sir. I will check the canister and the line, I was thinking it might be the canister, but since you've had this problem, I'll look at that first.

check the fuse for windows, you may have just blow that. If not, go back to that wire and trace it for power shorts as in my video "finding the source of electrical shorts on your car"

realize those electronics are ultimately controlled by the body control module, it may have wiring problems or bad circuits inside. that, of the main power switch is going bonkers, they have complex circuits in them too

motors often just go dead, remove the inner door panel and hot wire and ground the two wires going to the motor to see if it's burned out

get a test light, move the switches out so you can test the electronics, and see if they have power and ground when you toggle them up or down.

Binding! Really is a big problem. I replaced one on my Dakota today and it had gotten bent slightly in shipping. Had to toy with it for half an hour taking it out, putting it back in, before it would go up and down without interference. Now that it's done it's so nice to have my window go all the way up again.

Bought a used 04 accord. Loved the auto up/down drivers window. When window regulator failed 2x in one gear, I traced it down to a broken sticky switch. It was sticking in the up position...apparently accords don't have auto up! Haha
