Silicone spray will work but if you get it on the window glass it will smear like crazy and it's hard to remove, a better solution to this problem is.... Clean the rubbers as he did but use isopropyl alcohol or hand sanitizer, and then apply WD-40 Teflon spray to all the rubbers, it will protect the rubbers from wear and it's even more slippery than silicone spray but without the smearing problem. Good video though! 👍
Is teflon spray the specialist dirt and dust resistant dry lube ptfe spray?
Okay first - silicone spray will smear yes but it comes off very easily with a wipe from a clean cloth with some glass cleaner. Second - i don’t recommend using any sort of alcohol to wipe the rubber as it will cause it to deteriorate over time. Instead use glass cleaner and spray a generous amount on a rag or paper towel to where it’s very damp and then wrap the rag or power towel on your pinky and use that as a tool to clean and wipe out the dirt and grime from the rubber window tracks. Third - don’t use wd40 as that will surely attract more dirt into the channels. Silicone spray is best for this specific application and use it generously.
-ASE tech for nearly 10 years that does shit perfectly and doesn’t care how much time it takes to get the job done right.
@@Blvkbird your way will also work, but I disagree that silicone is easy to remove, I was a professional auto dealer for over 20 years and had many battles of trying to remove the smears left from silicone on glass, it also ruins microfiber cloths by way of contamination, I use alcohol as a cleaner because it evaporates very quickly and doesn't have any lasting effect on rubber, although I should have mentioned not to get it on paintwork as it will remove all the wax protection or ceramic coatings, I agree that normal WD-40 would be a bad idea because more dirt would stick to it which is why I recommend "WD-40 Teflon spray" which is a dry spray leaving a very slick surface with no residue for dirt to stick to.
Sounds expensive, I'll just keep using my air-con..lol
Tried your method @Col-1, works a treat👍
Short, sweet and to the point... Thanks for the info 👍
good video, id recommend first cleaing the gaps with glass cleaner as it contains alcohol it will get rid of the dirt, and then the silicone spray will also stick better in there
👍
I just tried this the other day and it seems to help a lot. To heck with new rubber seals, just use some WD40 silicone lube. Job done, windows roll slicker than snot.
As the vehicle ages. The window seals lose the little fibers that are in the rubber that keep the glass from rubbing on the rubber. Time for new seals. You will be surprised how much easier the windows work. Especially if you have hand crank windows.
Another thing to check is if the window frame is actually straight. I had that problem with a customers Beetle. The frame was pulled in slightly and not allowing the window to wind freely
i use this to clean and protect my locks and chains outside , works well
Very good information...very helpful...i try it..good working ❤❤
useful, first time this has come to mind ever, ty
Thank you for recording and posting this valuable educational video.
Yes, he shows what not to do, so in that way it is an instructive video. NEVER USE SILICONE ON ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE RUBBER MOLDINGS OF THE DOOR, IT WILL DESTROY THE CAR'S PAINT
the starting of the video really seems like a window documentary with that voice!!
nice one, done something similar to this myself
Take the inside door panel off and spray the window track and window motor as well
It works. Ive done it a few times myself
The label does not say 'dry silicone', which will evaporate on contact leaving a dry surface. Regular silicone just makes a mess.
No. WD 40 will ATTRACT dirt. You need Dry Silicone Spray which will also condition and protect the elaastomers.
He got high performance silicone?
Thanks. Makes sense and I agree. Especially in my case. Driving pickup on dirt roads.
Doesn't wet silicone spray dry with time?
9😅
Thank you. I will try that 👍👍
Thank you for this information, I find it to be very useful 😊
I see it contains silicone. It will do the job but it will creep over the whole surface of the glass and cause smearing and clouding.
A dry film lubricant is a better choice. Dupont sells a good one.
You can also do it the right way. Just quickly loosen the 3 screws that hold the door trim and peel it off. So there is access to the entire window lift.
Would dry rubber cause a Voltage drop with a Power Probe by SnapOn from 12.8 to 9.3 volts?
We took the window lift assembly apart and used White Lithium grease on all rollers.
Direct to battery with the Power Probe to motor. Before cleaning it dropped to 6.2 volts and moved slowly. With the window switch it stopped intermittently while going up.
Moves fine going down.
Thanks
Thanks!
smooth. real smooth.
Great video give this a try
Get manual crank windows they go as fast or slow as you want. Heck you don't even need the car on.
Never ever spray oil based lubricants in window tracks.
The butyl rubbers will absorb the oils and breakdown...
Silicone based lubes will attract dust and grit....silicone also spreads in the heat...
Use a dry lube in window tracks..won't attract dust nor will it spread in the heat
That's actually incorrect. I sell the bailey channel that is used in car window channels to private and commercial customers. Most, if not all, of them use silicone spray in window channels. None of them use any form of dry lubricant, for the reasons I'll outline below.
The door and window seals of cars isn't butyl rubber, it's EPDM. The window tracks have bailey channel. It's made from EPDM with a fluffy coating of artificial felt. I'm not sure what that artificial felt is made out of, though. Silicone spray does not contain any form of oil. EPDM is also resistant to light amounts of oil (the resistance varies, depending on the ratio of the ingredients used to make the EPDM.)
Silicone is a thermal insulator. It's also being used in such a small quantity and only on the window channels, that it won't have any effect on temperatures. There's no temperature issues with window channels, regardless of what is or isn't used.
While silicone spray will hold more dust than a dry surface, it can actually help to reduce dust getting into the track when the windows are closed, because it seals the (miniscule) gap. Silicone spray also helps to reduce the wearing out of the artificial felt surface, meaning it will take longer until they'll need replacing.
Whether or not silicone spray is used on window tracks, they still need occasional cleaning, so it's better to use silicone spray than not to use it.
Using dry lubricants may seem like a good idea, but that's only suitable for hard surfaces, such as locks (where silicone spray is not advisable, because it will trap dirt). If a dry lubricant, such as graphite, is used on the windows channels, it will act as an abrasive and prematurely wear out the bailey channel. It will also deposit on the edge of the glass that goes into the channel, where it could smear onto the rest of the surrounding glass.
@@jublywubly so reading your statement, you backed up what I said.
..?? Silicone attracts dust and debris so use a dry lube....
Butyl rubber absorbs oil..its fact....
@@grahamj1935, Good grief, it's better to understand a little than to misunderstand a lot .
I love the video. But why does this guy sound like Korg from the marvel movies.
Because it's him
With this cleaning and lubrication method, won't it collect dust more quickly and get worse?
Exactly
Silicone spray leaves a clear non staining film which repels dirt. So no it won’t make it worse actually.
@@Blvkbird Did you say this and get results? I lubricated the window motor mechanism and corrected the gaps in the window channels.
@@ferhatsolak4581 yes i get results. Make sure to also lubricate the window tracks where the glass slides up and down in the door frame
Good shout mate 👍
Thanks a million! :D
Does the regular w40 work fine?
Thanks
Cleaning the windows thoroughly and applying a thin coat of Country Crock margarine all across the glass surface always does the trick for me.
😂😂
Will lanotec work??
And me changing the regulator and they work awsome is an 05 cliosports so did need a change
Will this work if windows tinted? Esp if it gets on the tint will that remove tint?
If it's factory tint, it won't do any harm. if not then it will ref: google
@@ZRKREVIEWS it’s after the fact done professionally so I’ll just spray on microfibre and run in side grooves to clean then hopefully that will be ok
@@TinyHomeCookingwithSherleihow did this go?
TkU 😊
IT is good put old oil in the "exit ports", to avoid get rust there. old trick.
I used cooking spray, works but not for long.
Hi i have problem in my cars passenger side window go down automatically when near to close like 1 inch before, but if i hold the butten upside it go full up then It work well and also work good in rain. But when dry then automatic times that come down before fully closed. Any suggestions please
Did you fix this?
@@LiamThomas-r5x yes, i put rubber care spray on the panels ,
in e91 no greas and glas glued to rubber and break window mechanism
Is this also working when you do this with your hands?
Works with manual labor windows also
Paid TOUT this guy
Ive barred any wd-40 product. The propellant runs out far earlier than the contents and so you waste money because you cant spray it. I complained to the company and they couldn't care less. Their loss not mine! You've got to wonder if they deliberately put less propellant in it .
U can recharge the can with compressed air and an air gun. Pull the nozzle and u will find an upright white plastic piece with a hole. Line up the air gun with the hole and give it short bursts of air. Test and see as u go. Don't overdo it.
Will that wd40 ruin the tint if it gets on it?
Manufactured may not but third party may
I’m having the opposite problem. Window is slow going down. What can I do?
Well if you put a ring on it that will surely stop em going down .. O wait that's woman when they get ring!!! Sorry
What to do if it's a frameless window?
This doesn't work as good as opening the door, pulling the panel, and greasing both rails front and back with silicone spray. My 24 year old widows went from going up halfway to full speed and full close.
ptfe spray is way better for this
Why microfiber? Try natural cotton or chamois and reduce manmade pollution from manmade plastic materials. Chamois and cotton are much better
Having to wait a whole 4 seconds for you window to open or close....... A saving of 2 seconds. Wow, where would I be without this 🤔
That is not the problem. If u continue to use the window while it is slow and binding u will burn out the motor.
Nice one
Thanks 🔥
What if the window has no frame?
Make a frame for it 🤣🤣🤣
What if the car has no doors
Makes it rust faster😮
ive tried this it dont work
Does NOT work.
Works for me.
Didn't work for me
Yes it works
I just have to move my arm faster 😅
replace the motor duh
Absolute bollux.
Did this on the screen, couldn’t see and crashed, great video tho
🟥 When they move slow it's called......Carthirtis 🤪
Please don't try it not working my car window got white and that marks was not going
Thank you 🙏
