    Couldn't find a shop to "rebuild" replace solenoids etc.. Shops were quoting me $3500 - $4600 to replace transmission. . . . . . THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS!!!!! :) God bless you.

    I know this video is a couple years old but I am so glad you made it. I had all the same symptoms yours had. From a stop, engine would rev but no engagement till there was a clunk and a jerk and off you go. I just finished my solenoid replacement project. It took about 12 hrs. I'll drive it probably 500 miles this week so I'll get a good feel for how it responds. Thank you for posting this video and making content for those of us who are not afraid to get our hands dirty. Spent maybe $150 in parts. Shop probably woulda charged me $1500. Thanks Again!!

      @@southernmost9429 I have a similar problem. But is it affiliated? I release the brake pedal and let her engage on her own then drives fine. If I quickly move to the gas pedal from the brake pedal. Does make a cluck and jerk and drive. BUT also I notice at the stop light, the RPM slightly drops at fine hair move feels wants to choke down.

    Thank you sir for this great video, you Saved me $2,800 for a Reman. Trans. + Labor. About (3) mths. ago I purchased a 2011 LTZ w/ 118.4 k. (currently @ 120.0 k). After a month driving it; same exact issue with my Transmission (4T65R) has come to the forefront of my Car Issue(s) list. It's very noticeable when street driving; accelerating from a full STOP/or Red Light....transmission engagement delay (btwn 1k - 1.5k RPM) for a few secs. and then a sudden slight jerk forward and the car proceeds forward. No issues on freeway. Now I know the solution, all thanks to your video. Cheers!

      Did u end up replacing the solenoid/sensors? If so did that fix it or help or not? I bought an 08 SS with 113k and it was fine but I knew the ATF had never been replaced so I replaced the filter and fluid. Then it started doing that, every so often, from complete stops. never at any other speed, and it started shifting a bit more noticeable into third. I'm assuming the solenoids got dirty/plugged when the old came out and new fluid in.

      The 2000 through 2005 Impala with the 3.4 V-6, and 3.8 V-6 are prone to have a clutch inside the transmission that goes out. The problem I experienced on two Impalas was the clutch, and not the solenoids. At 65,000 miles the transmissions on those are junk. When the clutch fails, you feel a grabbing when accelerating from a stop. Then when it goes, the car does not move at all forward, or barely moves.

Ended up replacing the steering rack too since when I was down there I noticed the boots had a good amount of fluid in them, so got that taken care of the next day with some help and got it aligned, but now it drives great for being 11 years old it floats down the Highway.

Our 2012 chevy impala makes a whinning noise, shifts hard out of first gear, has decreased the gas mileage and is starting to have a shifting issue. I hope by changing the solenoids, torque converter pump, tranny fluid, seals (if damaged) and the tranny filter, it'll help the car. Thanks for the informative video, its the only one that I have found that shows you how to get to the transmission from the bottom of the car. 👍

      If I take it to a mechanic anybody have an idea of what I’m looking at to fix. It’s an 07 Impala giving off the p1811 code

    • @Michaelsbackyardmarina
      @Michaelsbackyardmarina  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      P1811: Maximum Adaptive and Long-Term Shift Times OBD-II Trouble Code
      The P1811 diagnostic trouble code usually appears when the transmission control module detects an unusually long shift time. On average, most acceptable shift time parameters are set at 0.6 seconds. Anything longer will cause the TCM to raise the line pressure, which will cause usually harsh shifts.
      How Serious is the Code?
      A P1811 diagnostic trouble code means the hydraulic line pressure has been raised to compensate for excessively worn clutches or other components. If left unchecked, this excessive line pressure can cause serious damage to other control components, making a small problem a lot worse.
      Symptoms
      Symptoms of a P1811 include:
      Longer than average shift times
      Unusually hard shifts
      Causes
      Failing pressure control solenoid/EPC solenoid
      Worn clutches
      Worn accumulators
      Excessive valve body wear
      Malfunctioning MAF sensor causing lowered commanded line pressure
      How to Diagnose the Code?
      The first step to diagnosing a P1811 DTC is to examine the condition of the automatic transmission fluid. If metal fragments are present, the problem is most likely a failed hard part like it clutch pack or drum. If no issues are discovered with the ATF, then further investigation will be needed to determine if the problem lies with a failed pressure control solenoid.
      Common Mistakes When Diagnosing
      One of the most common mistakes made with diagnosing a P1811 diagnostic trouble code, is automatically assuming that the pressure control solenoid/EPC solenoid is to blame. If the vehicle has a lot of miles on it, it may be wise to investigate the transmission for signs of other issues that could cause this problem.
      What Repairs Will Fix P1811?
      Replace pressure control solenoid/EPC solenoid
      Replace worn clutches
      Replace worn accumulators
      Repair valve body
      Replace MAF sensor

    Don't know if you mentioned it I fast fowarded it through sections, Clean just common grease like chassis grease, bearing grease isn't going to kill your transmission, you can take a little bit of grease smear it on the gasket (particularly that o ring gasket around the output shaft) and let that hold the gasket in place while you hold that thing sideways and put the cover on

    Shift problems can return since the solenoids (are magnetic and) attract wear metals from the gears and jam up. I added many neodymium bar and disc magnets on the steel plate on the oil filter right next to the oil pick up opening. I'd add magnets to the oil pan but it is zero clearance when buttoned up. OE magnet in pan is not enough. Easy upgrade and you'll see how well it works next time you change the filter!

    Have to say I love Impalas, especially the older ones with the 3800 series 2 (I have an 05 Impala 9c1 with it.) But GM SCREWED UP majorly with this transmission. Again, especially coupling it with the bullet proof 3800 series 2. What good is a bullet proof engine, if the transmission is absolutely junk?
    Will be doing this fix on both my 05 9c1 AND my 2011 Impala LT. Cheers for the video. I do all my own labor and visual guides like this help immensely! Watch it beginning to end a few times and I can do it on the car the next day. Got my summer project. Might end up saying screw it and buy a new engine for the old cop car while I'm at it. @@Michaelsbackyardmarina When I eventually drop a new engine in it, I honestly think I'm gonna mod the 3800. As it is a nice platform to mod. Cold air intake, cam, turbo, etc. But, that'll have to wait till "new" engine. No point in modding an engine with 180K+ on the odometer, and the title had 160K which took me 3 years of ownership going 100+ miles a day to exceed. (Severe mileage fraud. Or maybe cops didn't have to report accurate mileage.)

      I just had mild shifting issues and a little occasional hesitation from a start. Make no mistake the fluid was pink and clean, If your trans fluid is dark and burnt there is a good chance your problem would be much worse.

    My 2003 Buick Regal with 125,000 miles with 4t65e started harsh downshifting from real 2 to 1 when slowing down at a moderate pace. It was at first a clank, and now it is muted but at the right slowdown speed you can still hear it a soft clunk, which it never used to do at all. It doesn't slip and it's shift points seem fine. What do you think that might be?

    I love my impala for comfort. Huge car & trunk. Fast . Bose speakers ( my favorite ) . But I will say the trans on my 2011 impala has gone out 3 different times . First one was off the factory line , direct from GM that lasted about 40k miles , old lady owned it . It died. Then they put in a new one , that lasted 40k with my sister owning it and taking very good care of it . Then I was on my 3rd trans before 100k miles …….. when I owned it & still do own it. GM claims it was the way I drive the car - that’s why 3 different owners have had 3 different trans , because of the way I specifically drive it ….. yea ok GM . Just admit you made shitty defective parts & still do , certain cars get them other cars are lucky & never have the issue. GM makes billions of $$ . I had to pay $2,500 for a rebuilt trans. So yea love the car HATE GM.

    I never tried this in theory but something that sounds like it would work as good a safety-pin heat it was a torch and stabbed it through the connector and then clip it to lock is secure if the retaining clip fails I say just do that inside the tranny cuz of the fluid but if I have what retaining clip break on me typically I just put silicone gasket before I put the connector back

    Was wondering what code you were getting from your transmission prior to replacing solenoids? I just got my car back from a shop saying it was throwing a 1811 code. Which in their words meant complete replacement of transmission. Cost to replace transmission in a shop $3500-$4600. I am wondering if I can do what you have done to buy some more life for my impala. Same year.also

  • @Roudter
    @Roudter 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had that symptom of the revving from a stop, then slamming into gear...(2006 impala, 3.9l)
    I added some AT205 on the premise the problem was an aging rubber seal. I also changed the fluid/filter. That seemed to have resolved that very annoying problem.
    So, now you have me wondering...

      Did you ever figure out what the High Rev and slamming into gear was I have an 07 Lucerne doing the same thing which I was getting ready to replace the shift solenoids and pressure sensor wondering if you found out this was the issue or you need a new or remanned transmission

    • @Roudter
      @Roudter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@patrickmahon5453 from my perspective...I understood the problem to be deep inside the transmission - specifically an aging lip seal that can only be replaced during a rebuild. My understanding is the revving is from fluid escaping passed the input piston seal, then the seal will suddenly 'grap', the fluid will seal and fill the clutch quickly slamming the car into gear. Always from a stop - I found.
      First, I replaced all my fluid with no luck, but my revving/slamming into gear issue went away a few days after putting a bottle of at205 in the trans...it reconditions seals and is famous for improving rear seal leaks in engines.
      It's not a classic sealant that makes a mess - it just reconditions rubber parts. I'd try it for $15...
      (Edit: by the way, I was astonished that it actually worked - that was like 3 years ago)

      You can get a used transmission for your car, order an entire rebuild kit with all the rings, seals, gaskets, solenoids, etc. Very cheap, maybe 211.00 for all, and honestly, too many unnecessary components. I would watch as many videos as possible, google image the transmission you own, could be a 4t65e or 4t60e or HD, depends on the engine. I have a 3400 (3.4L) V6 4t65e tranny. It's shot, but I knew that when purchasing the car. I got a free transmission, which has to be the exact model as the one you are taking out. You might be able to just take out the current one and rebuilt it, depends on how long the problem has been going on. If you have a check engine light you should be able to get plenty of Troubleshooting codes which can steer you in the right direction. Buy the solenoids, pan, filter, gasket, new upgraded coolant line (in and out), and approximately 16 q of tranny fluid. It's not that bad. I am spending more money on the tools to do the job than the actual parts...ugh.

      The valve is stuck that’s why this repair the valve body should be removed and cleaned it’s a steel valve moving inside a aluminum body it builds up a lip and gets metal and clutch material inside and the valve sticks that’s why when you pull these solenoids out the screens are clogged
