    A bit of background first.
    Another year another big restoration project.
    Due to a few requests i have now started a Patreon page. If you like what im doing with the channel and want to help support the channel and help it grow the feel free to make a small donation. patreon.com/ReallyRandomChannel
    Anyway onto the bike. As you may remember i restored the tank from this bike in a previous video for the previous owner of the bike. his intention was to have me restore the tank and that would give him the inspiration to get on with the rest of the bike but sadly this was not the case. So i made him an offer on it and now its mine to restore back to its former glory.
    It was initially found lying in a barn parted out and whats left is all that you see in the video so theres a lot of bits ill need to source, easier said than done! No one even knows if it runs as whoever parted it out has been long forgotten in the sands of time, then my friend stepped in saved it from the barn and now its in my possession.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    The first job on this weeks list was to tear down the wheels carefully as i will be saving the rims, spokes and nipples this time as the are genuine D.I.D items and cant be replaced easily and they are in good enough condition that they deserve to be salvaged.
    I pre soaked the wheels in WD40 for a few days to five the nipples their best chance of freeing off which im glad to say worked a treat. After disassembly the wheel hubs were media blasted to remove years of oxidation and dirt. Once thoroughly blasted they were polished with a wire brush and autosol to give back the vapor blasted look not to shiny but not dull either just the right look.
    Then i made a start o the rims, They are made of an alloy that has been anodized silver but as stated in the video i have no way of getting them re-coated so the only option for me was to colour match them and paint them, Standard painting procedures were followed here, sand,clean,prime,clean,paint,tack rag,lacquer. Im pleased to say they turned out fantastic.
    While the rims were curing i jumped onto polishing the spokes, a very tedious task but well worth the effort. I did take a video of this process but forget to edit it in so apologies for that.
    After that i started preparing all of the other hardware for electro plating the first step of which is removing all the rust which i done with a bath in DEOX C. Once fully rust free every parts had to be buffed in the sketchy bench grinder to give the parts a smooth finish other wise the zinc plating would look dry and dusty on the surface. Once i set up the zinc plating baths it was simply a case of working through each part piece by piece, first cleaning, then etching, then the zinc plating itself and then a bath in blue or yellow passivate to harden the surface.
    Then it was simply a case of building the wheels back up, new bearings, rims tapes, inner tubes you get the idea. I have reused the tyres as they are competition spec tyres and they really look the part so they were kept.
    After the wheels were done the swing arm was blasted, primed then painted with the same high durability paint as the frame and after curing new bushes were pressed into place with the vice as using my press would have chipped and distorted the swing arm.
    The i rebuild the forks, I dont have much footage of this as there really isn't much to see apart from replacing the seals and filling with oil.
    But now that all that work has been done im hoping the next episode will be turning the bike into a rolling chassis :) It will be the first time it will have sat on its wheels in many many years so its very exciting!
    As you can see from the results it turned out fantastic! This project is shaping up to be a good one!
    Stay tuned for episode 3 coming soon ;)
    A new addition to my videos from now on will be a water mark and my channel name popping up in random places throughout the video as im getting rather tired of people re-uploading my content as their own i hope you guys understand.
    If you like what you see and have any ideas for the channel or would even like to donate something to restore to the channel please get in touch. :)
    And as usual if you liked the video please like share and subscribe and help the channel grow.

    Thanks for sharing mate. I am 62 and have been riding bikes for around 45 years. Just purchased a Honda XL500 s. Used to own one 20 years ago. Watching your videos is a joy and reminds me of skills I had forgotten. Thank you so much for sharing your skills. I am so looking forward to spare time in the garage. At the moment its all about our business which takes 6 days a week. Watching your videos puts me in holiday mode after work. Skippy.

    You do such amazing work, you would imagine once restored you could go to the relevant forums or enthusiasts clubs and sell these bikes for a nice profit.
    That said it probably is a labour of love as the amount of hours you spend to get such a great finish outweigh what you sell them for.
    Either way I really appreciate you sharing as it’s a pleasure to watch you work.

    • @RRCRestoration
      @RRCRestoration  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Thank you for your comment. I have never sold any of my projects i still have them all. I dont do this for money i do it for the love of restoration and making videos :)

    • @mavos1211
      @mavos1211 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn’t be able to sell them either!
      I totally understand how you do it for the love of the machinery.
      I think as soon as people take the attitude to do it as a business then the passion and enjoyment goes very quickly.
      By keeping profit margins ect out of it it then gives you the luxury of taking your time and that is exactly what you need to do to produce such amazing restorations like yours.

    • @mohithellscream
      @mohithellscream 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mavos1211 And also when one tries to sell it, no one is looking at the work thats gone into restoring it, all they see is a TL 125, and how much its worth for them. And most definitely the price is never worth the work thats actually gone in. So restoring something old to this magnitude will never be profitable, as better machines are now available for far cheaper. Unless your client list is of those middle aged men who've made it in life and would like to own those machines from their younger days. Price isnt of matter then.

    I don't think I have ever seen anyone put seals in the fork leg before inserting the tube. I also don't believe I have ever seen anyone fill fork oil through the drain. But hey, looks like it works! The results speak for themselves!

    You really should get some neoprene covers for your vice if you're going to tighten fork lowers.
