    I am so envious watching this video. Sunshine and green grass...how lucky you and your fish are. Here in southern Ontario Canada we are just coming off of a few days of negative 40 C (with the wind chill) and two days ago had almost 25 cm of snow. I can barely even see my pond under all the snow at the moment. Thankfully I winter all my fish indoors so I know they'll be ok until the spring arrives. Keep posting your videos as they always give me something to look forward to.

      Wow! KR that's cold. We've had it 2 or 3 below at night but nothing like that, in fact we've had quite a mild winter this year compared to last year. I must say I don't envy you mate. I'm all for the sunshine and getting my shirt off lol. Thanks for your kind comments and will do my best mate. Keep smiling, spring is on the way. Terry.

Keep I'm coming ...like the new hobby of wood working also, thought it would be a sign of happy pounding or something along that LINE...lol! instead of the bit holder (looks great also) {HI TO THE WIFE) Just a hopefully helpful note that I use in winter for my pond due to the water temp you were talking about not being quite cold enough to kill parasites etc , I purchased it from Webb's water garden USA its called Aqua Meds supposed to reduce deadly bacteria, aeromonas, pseudonymous in ur pond!? Just a question. Why did you "hard pipe" the air stones in?. Why didn't you just use air hose?. Seems like alot of work.

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kris, My underground pipework for the air is 15mm plastic, and it comes into the pond as 15mm with a tap to regulate it. This is why I had to change it for the rubber pipe. Terry.

      @@Wrighty Hi Terry. No I meant the air stones in your moving bed filter. I'm just about to put two moving beds into the last chambers of my multi-bay and wondered why you piped it all in with joints and pipes?. I was just going to use air hose. • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kris, sorry mate, You can use normal air hose, I use the 15mm pipe because I have 2 x 8" round air stones and have a tap on each so I can regulate the flow to each stone. Plus, it tends to stay where I put it and not float about in the moving bed. Terry.

    Hi Terry,
    So a few years ago you heated your pond but in recent winters you haven’t. I noticed you think letting the water temp drop now is good to get rid of parasites .
    I can’t decide whether I’ve done the right thing in heating my pond or not ?!

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Paul, The reason I no longer heat my pond is because it cost me a fortune. Roughly about £2.00 a day, but if it came really cold, even more. If you watch the video of when I heated my pond, I turned the heater off for one month (January) to give the koi a winter and help kill any parasites. The problem with our winters are there usually too long for the koi, especially if there's a long cold spell. 3 or 4c and they do go hypothermic. Yes most the time they can stand it but they don't like it. Hope this helps mate, Terry.

    • @Wrighty

      Hi Chris, If I'm connecting with flexi pipe, I always fit them together with solvent weld and then tighten with a jubilee clip. It seem to stop the small leaks. Also if the joint is not a very tight fit, I put some insulating tape on the male side first to make it that bit tighter. I tend to hard plumb when I can these days. Terry.

    Wrighty any advice for unblocking a bottom drain??

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Michael, I use my pressure washer to clean my bottom drain and pipework, which I would use if it was blocked. You can see how I do it in this video: th-cam.com/video/YXXjryiznsQ/w-d-xo.html
      If I hadn't got a pressure washer, I would use my garden hose. Push that up the pipe and see if I could blast it out. If you know a plumber, they sometimes have big plungers for this sort of job. You can get drain rods that have a rubber plunger fitting that is pushed up and down the pipe that sometimes works. Hope this helps mate. Terry.

      @@Wrighty hi Terry. The smallest one they have here in Thailand is the PA100. My plan is to use it in the moving bed the same as your 3 drum set-up. It it possible to regulate the air flow for example if I get the PA100 can you put a valve in the line to choke back........I guess another way would be to have a airstone in the pond using the same air and feeding the moving bed at the same time......what do you think?. Here in Thailand they have the PA100, 150 and 200. My pond will eventually be about 8000 gallon

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Neil, It's not a good idea to restrict the flow on a pond air pump, as it can make them run hot. The best way if you don't want the excess air, is to let it escape through fitting a T and a tap. With an 8000 gallon pond, I would have thought you'd need the air in the pond, especially where you are as it must get quite hot. Don't forget, you can't over aerate a pond. I have my 60 lpm running 2 x 8" air stones in the moving bed and 5 x 5" air stones in the pond. In the winter I just run the 35 lpm on the moving bed. Hope this helps mate, Terry.

    • @NeilsphotographyCoUk

      Terry for an extra £40 quid I can get the PA200 so I went for that instead.. I will plum in the airline on the drum filters the same as yours and have another line going to a couple of airstones in the pond. That way like you said I can take enough air to get the moving bed circulating nicely and the rest can go to the pond. I will drop you a few pictures once I'm all done. Thanks again for your advice and fantastic videos

      Hi Neil, the 200 is a very big pump mate. My PA60 lpm runs 2 x 8" and 5 x 5" in the pond. I'd have thought the 100 lpm would have been enough. Terry.

      Hi Humphrey, Lee's right mate. It's a must you act quickly and get a water test done. You can get a cheap test kit from your local pond supply shop for now. Chances are the new koi brought parasites into your pond and by the sound of it you have a really bad case of them. Have your fish been flicking and scraping their sides on things in the pond? This usually indicates the first signs of parasites. Is it possible for you to get a fish scrape done on your fish? Your local koi shop should be able to help with this. If not, find out where your local koi club is. There usually willing to help with things like this. Terry.

      I'm not sure what tools you mean, but you can try eBay or Amazon. Terry.

    get some better tools for that machine..
    - the egdes are "waved" ( dont really know how to express it in english ) dont let it run to fast forward, and dont take of to much wood at the time. also, dont go to deeb with each cut, the machine isnt strong so it can keep the tool cutting smoothly.
    if you cant make it cut smoothly in soft wood, you will never get it to cut hard wood ..

      Hi, thank you. I understand that these CNC's are not commercial, so I am taking it easy with the mechine. It cuts soft wood very easily so I'm hoping it will be ok with the harder wood. Not tried hard wood yet. it is the 1500w motor which helps. Thanks, Terry.

      @@Wrighty then I cant understand all the "wave action" along the inside egde of the cuttings.. unless you havent cut in that direction to end the entire cut.

      @@Wrighty if you pause the video at 5:42 you can notice all the round markings.. those are not suposed to be there, allways end the cut with a cut along the grains.
      and try to make most of the cuts along the grains rather 90degrees on them.
      you can also invest in a tool to make the first cuts ( I dont know the english name, but it is spiral shaped and the knifeegde is "waved"..
      then a straight sharp dimond egded tool to make the final finish..
      ( Ive been working with these cnc routers for a couple of years so that WAS my area of trade, untill I became a traindriver : )

      Hi mate, I've still a lot to learn, I've only had it a week. I only had end mills as that's what came with the router. I have ordered some ball nose and V bits which should make a difference. Thanks for your tips, there very much appreciated. I will have a look and see if I can find one of thoes finishing bits. I have been cutting across the grain, so I will try cutting along the grain as you suggest. Thanks again, Terry.

      @@Wrighty you are welcome, I hope you succed in getting a good job done, post something..
      a small extra hint.
      If you have to cut outside a square shape.. you have to plan your cuts to get the corners nice without splintering them.
      again, the grains are important to notice.. idea is to cut the two sides that are 90degrees on the grains first and then do the sides that are along the grains last.
      but there are more hints, but those are to hard to explain.. maybe I do a video drawing and explaning it.. but try out the mashine again with the new knowlegde you gained allready :D

    Never treat randomly like a bit of a dose.
    Need to be confirmed by skin scrape used a microscope slide and then examining it.
