The only thing I'll comment on is that this will NOT free companies to take more risks and make more games by cutting costs... It will lead to people losing their jobs and companies slowing down to maximize profits. The gaming industry is crashing before our eyes, and indie devs are the only thing keeping it alive.

AI has its uses. VACnet, for example. When AI is being used as a tool, it can work well. When AI is *replacing* an entire decision making or creative process, that's when it sucks. When wrong answers are okay to have, that's when AI shines. Other examples: content aware fill, content aware scaling, and denoising. It's cutting out a slow, tedious process and occasionally it's very wrong but the important part is that if it's wrong, there's someone there ready to throw out its answer and solve the problem a different way.
I wish there were better terms for separating the kind of AI that cleans up messes from the kind of AI that makes messes.

Yes on that last point! It is cumbersome to always say - generative AI

@@chetfaliszek There are also bad uses for the other kinds of AI, where it replaces a process rather than simplifying it. For example, using AI to filter resumes is letting the computer decide. Never let the computer decide.

Not an insignificant detail to this story: Druckmann posted an original transcript of his answer to a question on the future of gaming, demonstrating that his words were edited; yet, Neil did not post his actual answer to the question that the Sony answer invoked AI.
Tbc, we can't view what was originally posted by Sony as representative of Neil's words, because there was clear editing. However, we still don't know Neil's view on generative AI in game development. I'm willing to give Neil the benefit of the doubt and that was all Sony's voice, but we still don't have a clue to what he actually thinks.
