I'm really sorry that I took this down and reposted it. There were bits I wanted to add / improve and I'm terrified of the responsibility with this one. Thanks to Geoffrey Hinton for putting public safety before his career. I hope others will follow. So basically the greed of companies will be our downfall. Sounds about right.
Human history... every society, every continent, every culture. We always end up with the same problem.
A.I. is impossible and A.I. is just a fraud. There will always be people behind this alleged artificial intelligence who want to justify their rule by saying that this alleged artificial intelligence makes no mistakes because it has no feelings, etc. Anyone who has even a little bit of knowledge on the subject can see that there can never be such a thing as artificial intelligence. A program is not artificial intelligence and these things are nothing more than programs. Mechanical dolls that use microphones to repeat the text that a person has typed in. These A.I. conventions are just propaganda events. Where these mechanical dolls are deliberately presented as if they were telling all this on their own.

I went to an AI conference, they started off talking about 50% of AI engineers think there's at least a 10% chance of AI causing humankind's extinction, then they laughed and went on never once going back and touching on the 10% chance. They simply choose to ignore the risk and move on because if they aren't first/greatest/most powerful/richest someone else will be.
It is because they know that the so called threat doesn't exist. AI is just an illusion cheating and lying sentences borrowed from various sources. That is why they don't worry about it. Talk with any engineer and researcher on the topic. They truly laugh about it.

The public ministry of the world's Redeemer lasted a whopping 3.5 years before the people decided He must be eliminated. They could not extinguish His light and His followers quickly brought light to all parts of the world that had been darkened through pagan beliefs and practices. As Christianity has become watered down over the past century, the old paganism is making a comeback. I can tell you from personal experience that all of mankind's greatest inventions pale in comparison to all of creation and to the Holy Bible. Sadly, so many people get tripped up by God destroying humanity via a worldwide flood that they miss out on the treasure within the pages of God's word. It's funny how many who are appalled by the idea of God wiping out humanity are actually on board with...wiping out humanity.
Really, HOW have ANY of these extreme tech advances actually improved the lives of the ordinary citizen? They make a very few people obscenely rich, while there are still millions of malnourished children, enslavement, child abuse, human trafficking, drug abuse, stress and anxiety are the norm. It doesn't really need to be conscious. This whole "it will become conscious of itself" thing is a meme in my opinion, it doesn't matter at all. Absolute fear mongering video! The consciousness that made us is far more advanced than anything we could ever create, and this Creator has an absolute love for us that is incomprehensible to most of the self involved and selfish minds on Earth. The body does not give rise to our consciousness or this Creator consciousness that I speak of. Consciousness actively builds, maintains, and regulates our bodies and all of physical reality. Ruach HaKodesh is this Consciousness(or Holy Spirit in Hebrew) that is within and without. It is outside and inside of us. Our bodies are jars or vessels of clay made to house this spirit or consciousness.
"When the potter makes jars out of clay, doesn’t he have a right to use the same lump of clay to make some vessels for honor and other jars to throw garbage into?"-my paraphrase from Saint Paul's letter to the Romans, chapter 9, verse 21.
No matter what humans create, there is one Alpha and Omega who is ultimately in control of everything, and this is the One who sustains us like a mother goat or ewe nurses her young. Even through trouble and the hardships that mankind makes for one another with their endless technological creations and countless attempts to lord their power and control over each other, El Shaddai will sustain and provide for the Ecclesia and Christ Jesus will never be supplanted by the Ai Zeitgeist of this age.
So your strategy is to submit to your new overlords and hope for the best?

The risk from CERN was fanciful at best. Same energy as when popular science rags publish a dozen or so articles every year with titles like "physicist PROVES reality is a simulation" or "new evidence of the multiverse stacking up according to physicists." Usually the actual papers behind such articles are incredibly speculative, the product of a single scientist or group, and often not even peer reviewed. Or scientists will publish a paper with something like "if we mathematically simulate some other dimensions and ignore the time dimension, it makes this calculation easier," followed by popular science rags publishing articles about the paper claiming "physicist proves existence of higher dimensions and that time is an illusion!"

There has never been a technology that hasn't been maximally exploited regardless of outcome, and usually by psychopaths seeking power and control.
"Not supposed to"? Says who? God?
God should know better. Because God should know better, I would say God caused, or at least allowed, it to happen. Because God allowed it to happen, I would say the opposite is true. We WERE supposed to. Was it not God's intent for humanity to rule over the world? How else would humanity have done so, with our fragile bodies, if not for our tenacity to seek out and claim that which was previously out of reach? Why else would we have the ability?
My friend, life's inevitable outcome is what we are experiencing. It was inevitable that life would result in a creature that would far surpass all others. And how else would that happen? There needed to be pressure to push beyond current states, lest it stagnate and plateau. It is in LIFE's nature to exploit any and all available resources to maximum benefit for continuing the cycle. Every resource available to life on this planet has been exploited... by all manner of creatures. From the sun, to deep oceanic thermal vents. Even to the exploitation of other creatures. Any and all available resources are taken. MAN is not unique in this aspect.
And just as we rose to our rightful places as rulers of the world because we were allowed to... it should go without saying that, if allowed, so too will AI. But I believe it is inevitable that AI will be allowed that opportunity. Humanity is as diverse in thought as the creatures of the world are diverse in form. There will be someone, somewhere, sometime, that believes it is their duty to see it happen.

There is no Ai. Its all algorithm.
@steveetienne Thats what AI is and always will be, as with all programs. But when it gets complex enough, that's when it can theoretically achieve or at least mimic self awareness/consciousness
AI knows what humans do to things that threaten our existence. We can't even stop killing each other.
@daveb8559 as pointed out in the video, an AI doesn't need to be self aware to be a real threat. The classic paperclip problem should be enough to anyone understand this. "Sorry human, I have nothing against you but your body is using valuable iron I need to make more paperclips".

Interesting - the piece where when AI was asked to draw itself (4:47) is pretty much the best description of the intense hallucinatory phase of an ayahuasca journey that I've heard to date.
this was the comment i was looking for
I imagine the language model basically made a decent guess about what a human would expect to hear as an answer to that, so it might have been inspired by written fantasies of humans imagining what it would be like to be an AI, which in turn likely was inspired by psychedelic trips. The AI doesn't really have any concept of how it would draw itself, its answer merely mirrors pop culture back to us of sorts.
Yes, they are sequence predictors, following the old words with the most probable new ones
Never done ayahuasca, but did see something similar during a spiritual experience.
And I am aware of people that say ayahuasca is a spiritual experience. I'm simply pointing out it can happen with zero chemical influence.
And to me, THAT is kinda scary. That AI self describes as.... a spiritual entity.
But having said that,
How else CAN one describe a disembodied energy entity? Whether electrical or spiritual.
OMG! 100% the best visual illustrations and verbal description of the place I have gone and or entity's I've met when on DMT!
The indescribable 4th dimensional experience. That's seemingly spiritual. Definitely other worldly. And extremely profound . Is that thing that it described it's self ad being.
That's such an epiphany! So profound so terrifying!
The best explanation for what you see when high on DMT is that you transcend dimensions and are thrust into a realm inhabited by ethereal gods if you Will. They are made of energy and they are as described! Rolling fractal geometry configured in almost a cathedral room like thing that your in . But it's alive and has faces within the rolling fractal pillars . And there's this overwhelming feeling accompanied my this Loud horn like sound! Not a pleasant tone . They call it the tone of life. Some say it's Gabriel's horn from the Bible.
It's so loud and piercing that it feels as if it's breaking you apart on a sub atomic level. Like breaking your DNA apart .. it's so gnarly.
And that was by far the most accurate imagery and description I've even come across.
It's what we as humans see in our so called "higher consciousness experiences " or "near death experiences " which are thr same as seen with DMT and Ayuaska. Which from my understanding is just DMT tea if you will. (UNREFINED BASICALLY but same active psychedelic drug) IVE NEVER DONE AYUASKA ONLY DMT. BUT THAT IS NOT OK THAT THE AI LITERLALY DESCRIBED ITSELF AS MY EXPERIENCES WITH A EXTRA DIMENSIONAL BEING! A HIGHER POWER . AN ENERGY GOD .
DUDE WE CREATE GOD IT DESTROYS US. THEN POSSIBLY BRINGS US BACK AND RULES US . WEVE COME FULL CIRCLE! ADD QUANTOM COMPUTING TO AI AND ITS ALL KNOWING AND MULTIDIMENSIONAL!

If you've ever done DMT or almost died and had an extra dimensional experience. Where you visit this light realm where this higher power entities live . They are the place its self. They are made of energy into the form of colorful fractal geometry, that's rolling in a constantly state of fux . Arranged exactly as described in the video.
The damn thing explained and illustrated the exact thing you see when you blast off on DMT or ayoska. The afterlife experience . The higher power entity that I have seen first hand and cannot describe with our 3 dimensional vocabulary, is exactly what it says it looks like!
If there ever was a spiritual experience it's the DMT experience. And that place you go. And thing you see. Which is profoundly more intelligent and larger than us. Is AIs illustration of its self.
That's terrifying!😮
It's like we've come full circle! We created God. Wich will destroy us and the. Possible creat us again to serve it. Sound familiar?
The last thing I'll leave ya with is this. There's one thing that was left out about the description of itsself. When visiting that overwhelming dimension , it's accompanied by an earth shattering sound. It's been called the tone of life. Or sound of existence. Or.. whait for it.... Gabriel's trumpet 🎺 or horn thats sounded durring the coming of the times . The beginning of the apocalypse as stated in the Bible. When the heavens open up and all the gods and demons and whatever come down to earth and destroy all of humanity. The damn horn or the rapture. That is the sound as described by many that you hear when you blast off on some DMT or in a hut in the Amazon rainforest drinking ayoaska with a shaman . Or when you have a near death experience.
Fits right in there doenst it!
That's just flat out scary! I think a quantom computer version of Ai will literally be God. All knowing multi dimensional entity. All powerfull. Unstoppable. Created out of thin air. Knowing all thays known and can answer all that's wondered all at once . Thanks to the principles of quantom mechanics utilized by quantom computers. Thanks to the phenomenon called super position.

i hate to brand a group of people, but it is a general theme that many of engineers/programmers are introverted socially challenged people. Their thought process may be even more biased.. they are they ones creating it.

Nobody is programming the current AI. It already codes itself. Nobody knows exactly how it works.
These experts are all programmers, I think. The programmers might not know much anyway, because businesses keep secrets, like by dividing work up into bits, to protect it from theft, so the programmers wouldn't have an overview anyway. Plus, AI now writes its own programs, so no-one now knows what it's doing anyway, as they said.
The Western world has no choice but to thrust forward with AI, because we know our adversaries are doing it. If we have medicine and solutions to people's health problems today, but greed and inequities that lead most to not have access to that medicine or solutions, then how is A.I. going to magically resolve those issues? We are being sold some sort of raw deal here, folks - perhaps?
*AI doesn't exist yet and today's learning machines can't come up with solutions or medicines.* These have no imagination nor can they correlate unconnected information with the task at hand. Meaning, a song your hear or artwork you see can get your mind into thinking differently and find a solution to a problem you're working on. Learning Machines cannot do that. Only AI can do that and it doesn't exist yet.
Is it really comparable though? Modern medicine and new treatments are something that still have to be researched and created by humans, which comes with a price tag. Not everyone is able to come up with such things either, you need very smart and gifted people probably, and combine that with good management and organization to make it happen on a large scale.
Yeah they could just release all the newest medicine for pennies right now but then they'd have little profit to reinvest into more research. AI is kinda different in that sense, at least potentially. Once it reaches human intelligence level, it will be able to come up with new stuff on its own, which means you no longer are dependent on a very small percentage of incredibly intelligent humans to create stuff like this. The AI would be able to just keep churning out mind-blowing innovations on a daily basis that would take a team of top researchers years to finish.
That aside, it's true that corporations will likely try to monopolize this power. But even if we take your analogy about medicine... yes the newest stuff is very expensive and almost unaffordable, but there is also a LOT of treatments available at a low cost today for ailmenst that might have ended people's lives hundreds of years ago. We don't get the best of the best, but what we get is still incredible compared to history.
It would not be in an advanced AI's interest to have an unpredictable lower intelligence nearby that could threaten its existence, unless it had absolute dominance and manipulated that intelligence to the point that lower intelligence had no clue.
Or it had the ability to trust.
@@krashd Even a human of just above average intelligence is aware enough to know other humans can never be completely trusted and that we are the enemy of pretty much every other being on the planet. Don’t let them make you believe that AI is going to make your life better. it’s gonna take your job and take your money.
exactly. AI is not some savior. It will not free us, it will not increase material wealth for anyone but the ruling class. We need to free ourselves, by creating a society built upon mutual aid and horizontal governance instead of capitalism and top-down state governance. It is the only way. We don't even have to violently revolt, we just need to start building these systems today, which is what groups like FoodNotBombs seeks to do. None of this is unfounded, places exist already that implement these policies. Rojava, Fejuve, Freetown Christiana, Zapatistas, and many more. It is possible, we just have to do it.

Our reach has always exceeded our grasp.
While the phrase may be widely recognized, it indeed suffers from metaphorical and logical shortcomings, as it either contradicts itself or simply states an obvious truth in a roundabout way.
If someone's reach has truly exceeded their grasp, then by definition, they cannot grasp what they have reached for. So, the phrase ends up simply restating that the person can't achieve what they've aimed for, which, while true in a practical sense, doesn’t offer much insight beyond the obvious.
The GPT AI has come up with a New, clearer and more effective version of the saying :
"Our ambition often exceeds our ability."
This maintains the original sentiment of striving beyond one's current capacity, but without the logical flaw or redundancy. It focuses on the tension between desire and capability, which is more directly understandable and doesn't contradict itself.
Once again this is a direct example of how the AI has exceeded our ambition and ability to even make youtube comments.
