This is the best channel for content pertaining to the M50 and using it to its fullest capacity to create professional looking TH-cam videos. My son and I watch at least 3 of your videos daily and apply all of your techniques to our videos and we went from cringeworthy, amateurish videos to something I feel is on par with seasoned content creators in a week. Wasn’t cheap, but wasn’t exorbitant. Thanks SO much!

Thank you so much for all of your videos on the Canon M50 Mark II.
They have been invaluable to me. I am a total amateur who started a TH-cam Channel a few months ago. I have never used a camera before. I am not much good with my MacBook Pro either, which I had donated by my wife, who is a software engineer.
I was shocked to learn that the M50 is the ‘cheap’ camera. I started out with a webcam and then ‘upgraded’ to a 4K auto-focus camera from China called a Koshika (a firm which seems to have disappeared now). That camera cost me £140. The M50 was £624, plus I got on the 11- 22mm lens (again from watching your channel) to accommodate my small room where I film. That was another £369. It was money well spent, I think.
However, at first I was totally overwhelmed by the controls, settings, etc. and yours are the only videos which I have been able to follow with any success.
I now think I have my camera set up to film my next episode of Not the Chair Circle (my channel). It will be Ep. 3 of series 2, so I think it was high time that I got properly sorted out.
    Thank you again.
    Best regards, Bob McGowan.

Mark, thank you so much for speaking about color grading with the M50!
I’ve been concerned it’s just one more thing I need to understand and master as I explore launching a channel.
My worry was I know I have some colorblindness and wondered how I’d take a flat image and correct it in a way that looks best to the average person.
Plus it’s just one more step to add complications to an already busy process.
    Again thanks! - Mark

      May I suggest the following...
Sound test by half deaf WW veteran
Proper focus adjustment done by that same 102 years veteran
You can also ask an octopus to write you some valuable content isn't!
Seriously, use/trust Canon folks, use their great technology to your advantage.

Hey Mark! Question about your back light, the little one that sits behind you mounted by a small tripod lighting up the wall behind you.
I'm brand new to this stuff. I'm reading that you need a front light and a back light. But the other stuff I read mentioned pointing your back light at you. How come you don't point your back light at you? How come you point it at the back wall?

    • @markwiemels
      @markwiemels  ปีที่แล้ว +1

The light you are talking about it often called a hair or rim light, which make a bit of a highlight outline around you. The light I used lights up the wall as a backdrop. You can use either, or both, it’s just personal preference.

See, this is where things get confusing. There are a lot of TH-camrs out there offering advice, but only a select few seem to have a good grasp of what it takes to make this work AND can convey it in an easy to understand way. But there’s a problem…
For example, you said to use PAL and 25fps. In fact, you emphasized by saying “just do it”. But those other few cream-of-the-crop TH-camrs used different settings. 30fps, 60fps, PAL, NTSC, etc. And guess what? I can’t tell the difference in quality between any of you guys… multiple different setups, same looking footage from an eye-test perspective.
    It’s frustrating.

Great. Just a bit of advice for you, too: Watch this video and pay attention to the way you speak. You use the same exact cadence/melody for almost every single sentence. This is not unique, many people do this without noticing. The problem is, it's repetitive and gets quickly bothersome to many listeners. Pay attention to this and try to avoid it in the future. Speak in your video the same way you would speak to people face to face in real life. I guarantee you would not speak to someone in person the way you speak in this video.
