Great comparison. Thank god there is someone like you who will review products for us so we don’t go spend a bunch of money on a product and hoping it’s going to work out for us.
Yes totally agree with this comment. Thank you man. Too late for though. Bought the Garmin, and it is extremely disappointing. I figured for 2K, it would be at least decent. Shame on me, but honestly, shame on Garmin also.
Great, great review Alex! We appreciate what you do with you help and knowledge to help us become better fisherman. Also, thank you for setting a video up a couple years ago putting together a Garmin echomap lives cope with different components. You help me build mine around Black Friday for $1800 with all components that I consider an upgrade from the Garmin bundle. Thank you! ✌️
Heck yeah, I appreciate you and leaving this comment so happy to hear the videos and content are helping you! Sounds like you have an awesome setup, tight lines!!
Thanks for not worrying about hurting Garmin’s feelings for being honest about the Panoptix. I went to the Oshkosh Ice fishing show and they’re acting like it’s the best thing in the world not having a transducer pole. I just couldn’t make it make sense in my head no matter what they were telling me. I’m glad you agree. Most TH-camrs would tread lightly and find a way to only say something positive about it in fear of losing sponsorship or trying to gain sponsorship. Definitely my favorite fishing TH-camr.
Best comparison I’ve seen. I bought an eagle eye earlier this week and it has improved my ability to catch fish 10x. In the same shack as two other guys I caught eight walleye by carefully watching how they were responding to jigging on screen… meanwhile no one else caught a single fish, and the other two guys were using flashers
You can fish 2 holes even in just 10-12 ft with EE9. The deeper you go the more width you get with the EE9. I've been fishing with one for a few wks and like it. I can still return it up to 2/6 but feel I'm keeping it because it fishes down so nicely and works with two holes unless you are fishing in 7-8 ft or less. Wife and I were just fishing in 52 ft yesterday and it was great fun to get pike and tulis. Nice vid!
@@joshacoose1276 EE9 fishes great in down. I was just fishing in 52 ft yesterday and it worked great and was a buzz when pike and tulis came thru, and especially when they chomped.
Very good assessment. I do agree overall that not having the pole is a big detriment. I've seen people use the EE9 with multiple people by drilling a hole far away and using forward mode as a way to maximize the 45 degree angle. It's not going to be practical all the time especially in deep water but by doing that you would get almost a full screen worth of data.
The Eagle Eye 9 is an insane value. A much course correction from the ever more expensive live imaging. I would love to see an even more trimmed down model for $400-$500 so almost anyone could upgrade their old flasher to some new tech.
I've got a short one coming (its been insane trying to hole hop with the weather lately), and will be doing a longer version in the next few weeks hopefully and will post
It works good in fwd until you are in 40 ft or more, then gets all goofy. I've been fishing with EE9 for about 3 wks and my return date is 2/6 if I don't like it, but so far I love it for the $ and it's so light.
Just bought one today after doing some research. Sold my used panoptix for $900 on marketplace and paid $1200 for my complete setup for the eagle eye brand new. (EE9, Dave genz box, and fingear 18"-36" pole) Very light. Gonna add on a rod holder at some point
My PS22 is not the newer IF set up just so that’s known… But I agree the eagle eye seems slightly better, especially at the $1k price point. Only down sides are the blind spots caused by the blacked out screen/cone angle
I definitely could have spent more time on both units dialing them in, but knowing that for both I think the same pros and cons exist. Like you say the PS 22 has a much better field of view which in many circumstances is more desirable
It should run all day on a 12ah lithium battery, I will be doing a battery test soon. Cone angle is 30 degrees on the Eagle Eye 9. Depending on how far away the holes are and how deep you are yes you can. There is a trick with putting it in forward in a farther away hole too and then you can pick up a much bigger range of holes (I'll include in an upcoming video)
Right now scheels online store the live scope lvs32 is half off $1700 instead of $2900 in letting everyone in the comment section to know this as much as I can so they don't miss out cause it's a fucking steal
With full brightness mine lasted a whopping 2 ish hours maybe a bit longer, definitely will need to upgrade to something bigger if you’re planning on using it all day🤙🏻
Just bought the eagle eye on Tuesday just showed up looks like a good option for the ice and an amazing price $1400 all said and done vs $1800 for the garmin lvs32 at Scheels
Very true, but then Garmin announced this unit this last summer and released in the fall for $2000. Both were announced as new products at ICAST last summer and entered to be voted on in the new product showcase. Totally agree it is older tech, but the actual package at this price point is just as new as what Lowrance has (Lowrance didn't do anything new either, granted more recent tech than the PS22, but they just took the Active Target 2 and reduced the number of Transducer elements by 1/3)
One side note is, that if you already have a Garmin Ice fishing ducer, you can run the screen in split mode and have the ps-22 on one section and the normal graph on the other section. Also, if you already have a Garmin the transducer itself cost $1,100. In my opinion if you are looking for the bundle ps22, for the money just buy the LVS32 bundle for the same price.
All very good callouts and options! And I agree with your assessment of which to buy if you are just jumping in, that LVS32 bundle at $1799.99 is an awesome deal!
If you guys are looking for the panoptix just get the live scope right now at scheels you can snag the live scope for $1800 online instead of $2800 at scheels while the optix is still $1900. i just made the switch from the FLX28 gonna run both mine comes in the 29th this month.
My observations: Panoptix - wider cone angle, yet less clarity at further distances. Eagle Eye - slightly less cone angle, yet obviously better clarity. Disappointing clarity for Garmin for being only a few feet away picking up the jig. Seems like the Eagle eye is a much better option for the price in the budget forward facing live sonar category!
Were the transducers all the way through the ice? The image quality in forward mode for the Eagle Eye looked horrible and the Panoptix set up looked completely wrong. It’s like you’re reading slush at the bottom of the hole for the Panoptix. As a livescope owner (lvs 34), I definitely wouldn’t waste my money on the Panoptix.
Most people buy forward facing sonar units to locate fish 30 to 90 ft away, the PS22 in forward vue will be far superior to the ee9 because it has more beams. Sure Garmin is more money, but I think you get more. The eagle eye 9 is a budget/ entry level unit, it does a good job, but to locate fish in forward vue, it falls way short.
Agree with you on everything. I bought Garmin unit. It is trash. Have you or anybody have any advice on the "lens" attachment for the Garmin? Only thing the plastic "lens or lens cover" did for me is smash and bloodied my fingernail trying to remove and put back on, as it is incredibly tight. I'm not that guy, and not trying to be cynical, just realistic. The Garmin is awful. Great video man.
If you want a true comparison, Eagle eye should be paired against Garmin’s LVS12. Since they have the same cone angle, if I’m not mistaken. PS22 is old tech, not sure why Garmin brought it back, maybe they’ll bring back the PS21 too😂.
You aren't wrong, I hope they do bring it back, but the problem is it is only compatible with the multi thousand dollar screens. Garmin needs to come out with Hawk Eye 9 or something lol
@aaronalto3034 Yeah, but I think they could've done it with livescope. I built a LVS32 setup only 1lb heavier than this ps22 setup. And the Eagle eye is almost 4lbs lighter than the ps22 as seen in the video.
Personally I would use these tools to help me find fish quickly. I like having the ability to drill one hole and search around a hundred feet out and find fish. Normally I usually drill tons of holes using my vexilar and or camera trying to find fish and sometimes that takes a while, if you know the lake your on like the back of your hand then I wouldn't really need this tech but it would really come in handy on bodies of water that your not familiar with. Could you do a challenge on an unfamiliar body of water to see which unit performs best finding fish?
See in canada, the eagle eye without a battery, shuttle just the transducer and screen is 1400 plus tax, the panoptics bundle with everything is 2200 plus tax, my livescope set up was a little over 5000 all in, even the bundles for livescope is 4k plus here, deffinitely cheaper for the garmin die hards, might get the wife the eagle eye as she doesnt really care, it does look better than the garmin ps22
It very much so is! Eagle Eye is half the price (and yes, still expensive, but the most affordable live imaging option out there right now and a quality option it is looking). Hopefully prices and options keep coming in line with more affordable budgets. I'll keep looking!
No argument that the Eagle Eye has better "blob definition" but Garmin released Panoptix in 2015, so you're comparing 10 year old Panoptix tech vs 5 year LVS12/Eagle Eye transducer tech... It's laughable what Garmin is selling Panoptix tech for in 2025...makes ZERO sense...
I have watched a few comparison videos of Garmin Panoptix vs Lowrance Eagle Eye and for $1K less, the Lowrance blows the Garmin out of the water (pun intended).
I totally agree! I honestly don't think Garmin saw the Eagle Eye 9 coming or they wouldn't have released the PS22-IF bundle at the price they did or even at all IMO
The panoptix 22 is an outdated product, no matter how you set it. It wont be as detailed as the Eagle Eye. The Eagle eye has the same resolution as AT2.
Except they just released the Panoptix IF22 for $2000 and are acting like not having a transducer pole is the greatest thing since livescope, at all the ice fishing shows.

Great comparison. I was looking at both of these. Your review helped me decide to go with the Eagle Eye 9. Thanks for all you great info!

Not interested in either of these products but still enjoyed watching your breakdown and comparison. Thanks again for what you do.
I appreciate that a lot, means a lot to see people getting insights and value out of the content. Sometimes I wonder 😂
Me and my GF use the Eagle eye in a 2 man flip over with 4 holes and we can see all of our baits perfectly over 12' deep.
Awesome to hear, do you use it in down view or forward view a little ways away? Isn't it a great unit?!?!
Very interested in this unit what about upper 20's?
@ I use down view when fishing and forward view when looking for fish
@ you will get about 7’ to each side
@@joshacoose1276 EE9 fishes great in down. I was just fishing in 52 ft yesterday and it worked great and was a buzz when pike and tulis came thru, and especially when they chomped.
I would love to see a comparison out in deeper water like 50-80’
Awesome comparison video
What’s the run time on that eagle eye with 7.5ah battery?
Awesome video mate
Thanks 👍
I just bought the eagle eye made a makeshift pole out of pvc. I’m taking it out tonight for the first time
Awesome! Let me know how it works out for you.
Theres a youtuber called GG Fishing, she makes different pole parts and configurations for making an EE9 pole. I got her Wooster pole kit and love it.
Absolutely, have seen the same and will be trying it myself later this season
The review we really need is an Ice Fishing Snacks Review.
Which ones?
My move this winter has been bringing left over pizza to warm up on the buddy heater. Hahaha
Nice breakdown. Appreciate it.
The Eagle Eye 9 is an insane value. A much course correction from the ever more expensive live imaging. I would love to see an even more trimmed down model for $400-$500 so almost anyone could upgrade their old flasher to some new tech.
Good idea, maybe in the future, I'll be sure to let you know if that happens!
Haven’t seen a video showing the eagle eye 9 looking for fish with the FFS
Agreed
I've got a short one coming (its been insane trying to hole hop with the weather lately), and will be doing a longer version in the next few weeks hopefully and will post
@ looking forward to it! Thanks!
It works good in fwd until you are in 40 ft or more, then gets all goofy. I've been fishing with EE9 for about 3 wks and my return date is 2/6 if I don't like it, but so far I love it for the $ and it's so light.
What’s a solid, economical, boat pole for mounting the EE9 on my walleye boat?
How can the panoptic be more then lvs 32 livescope ice bundle
🤯 Right??? I literally just left the Minneapolis Boat Show an hour ago and still the same prices on those bundles
Just bought one today after doing some research. Sold my used panoptix for $900 on marketplace and paid $1200 for my complete setup for the eagle eye brand new. (EE9, Dave genz box, and fingear 18"-36" pole) Very light. Gonna add on a rod holder at some point
I have the ps 22, seemed like you need to change the angle some before having to turn up the gain
Even directly below the hole, if it’s not at just the right angle it can be not visible or less visible
What is the cone angle of the EE9? Can you see your jigging + deadstick at the same time? Also would it run all day off of a 12ah battery? Thanx!!
So when will the eagle eye go on sale lol Black Friday?
Right now at the Minneapolis Boat Show through Sunday it is 10% off
@ only if I was local
Right now scheels online store the live scope lvs32 is half off $1700 instead of $2900 in letting everyone in the comment section to know this as much as I can so they don't miss out cause it's a fucking steal
What kind of run time are u getting out of eagle eye 9 with 7.5ah battery?
I'll do a time test on it, I haven't tested it from full to dead yet
With full brightness mine lasted a whopping 2 ish hours maybe a bit longer, definitely will need to upgrade to something bigger if you’re planning on using it all day🤙🏻
@sanchezy6732 thank you
You could purchase 2 eagle eyes for close to the same price of the ps22 , no comparison in my mind !
Absolutely agree!
I can’t wait to see the Ping setup. And a low cost shuttle.
Whats difference between eagle eye 9 and active target 2?
Simpler ducer that shows smaller windows.
Eagle eye has the same resolution as the AT2, but you only get 2 beams instead of, 6 so you're limited on what you see.
Yup like the purchase that I made lowrance eagle eye is allot more clear to me in your video
Just bought the eagle eye on Tuesday just showed up looks like a good option for the ice and an amazing price $1400 all said and done vs $1800 for the garmin lvs32 at Scheels
You'll love it, both of those are great deals and packages TBH, the PS22 is not right now at a cost than more than both 🤯
@AlexTimm yeah I just couldn't justify the extra $430 for just ice fishing the eagle eye is just a great package for the price
Don't forget the Panoptics came out in 2015. Quite old in today's ever evolving electronics. Eagle Eye looks good tho.

I’m sold on the eagle eye
Me too!

I went back and forth what I wanted but eagle eye-9 clarity did it for me I take clarity over cone
100% agree
@AlexTimm auto contrast is perfect on eagle eye that shallow zoom screws it up i won't touch zoom til about 30 ft

11 year old tech VS new tech, Garmin is still better if you set it correctly,I've been using it in a ice bundle- PS 22 for 10ish years....
Agree with you on everything. I bought Garmin unit. It is trash. Have you or anybody have any advice on the "lens" attachment for the Garmin? Ps22 hands down
$2000 is alot of motel/lodge money 💰
It very much so is! Eagle Eye is half the price (and yes, still expensive, but the most affordable live imaging option out there right now and a quality option it is looking). Hopefully prices and options keep coming in line with more affordable budgets. I'll keep looking!
For $1800, you can get an Elite FS9 and an Active Target 1 and blow both of these away.
Or a livescope LVS32 bundle. I’m glad Alex Tim isn’t sponsored and trying to sell us on the stupid Panoptix without a transducer pole.
Pues en el Eagle se ve muchísimo mejor ,🤷🏻♂️
