      4:10 This and your review of Into The Breach makes me think you would be completely absorbed by Invisible Inc, that game is absolutely brutal, but completely skill based and constantly challenging you to adapt. If you are looking for a more action based equivalent, then The Swindle is an easy recommendation. Both are indie games full of style, great challenge and sheer fun that are unfortunately not well known. It would be awesome if you considered giving them a try and sharing your thoughts.

      I died from falling down and to the demons who are ammo refilled because when I beat all the other big strong demons I let my guard down and they just one shot me because I liked to play games especially games like doom with the hardest difficulty. It was my foolishness for letting my guard down. I liked to find ways to kill demons with different types of weapons. The DLC was fun.

    One of my favorite thing is how the Devs definitely specifically did things that broke tropes from the main game. Which is kind of like the trinity (The Father (The Father, not even subtle), The Son (Davoth) and The Holy Spirit (Samur).) reference.
      But anyways, some are theorizing that the mark of the slayer given to Doom Guy is the leftover body that when The Father ripped the Dark Lord essence and leaving the physical form behind. Hence why making the original Doom Guy from a maddened and tired person, to suddenly a God Given form after the transfer process. Hence, why Doom Guy looks like the Dark Lord.

    From what I can understand from the codex entries, the dark lord is the “original.” I believe the quote actually says something along the lines of davoth being “so powerful that each realm could have only one.” So davoth came first and each realm has its own version of him. With that in mind, it’s possible that doom guy was specifically created by the father as a response to the demon threat because the father knew that he could never bring himself to kill the demons and davoth. I mean think about the fathers reaction to learning doomguys plan. He doesn’t get angry or upset or even protest against him, he just accepts it and allows doomguy to do what he’s gonna do, almost as if he knew this was the way it was going to eventually go down.

    • @deadrock1678
      @deadrock1678 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      But that makes a plothole because Doomguy was a HUMAN and his ancestor was BJ the main charachter from Wolfenstein 3D and he's obviously a charachter. I believe he's a heroic version of Davoth.

    • @LP-PADICIA
      @LP-PADICIA 4 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      @@deadrock1678 It's not necessarily a plothole, considering that The Father created all of existence. It's established that The Father created and maintained multiple dimensions, which could include the OG Wolfenstein/Doom universes. In fact, that would make sense in a way, as it's sorta like The Father breeding a bloodline of ultimate badasses, starting with BJ and ending with the Slayer, knowing that he would one day face off against Davoth. Rather than just create a super-weapon or an angel/demon that could kill Davoth, because we know these things *always* fail when they're made on such short notice, (Like the Doom Hunter & Marauders against the Slayer) he bred and forged the Slayer over the course of eons.

    Ancient Gods is everything i love about Eternal. When you're good, its an effortless ballet of destruction, a symphony for which you are it conductor. When the throws something new at you, it really tests your ability to adapt. Spirits knocked me about so much that i thought they kind of ruined the experience, but when i did my Extra Life Mode run (on Too Young To Die for the achievement) i adapted my playstyle, more rockets and targeting weakpoints on non possessed to get the upper hand in case they got possessed, by the final boss the blood angels were literally just bigger makyr drones, a headshot and onto the next. the game punishes you when you don't adapt to it but its so rewarding when you do.
    Currently, on the nightmare, no extra lives run and just go to the blood swamps.

    4:54 Oh my god, this is so true.
    You know how in the final stage of the final boss where you have to fight the spirit-buffed pain elemental and dread night, and that god damn respawning blood maykr? I remember when I first got up to that section. I like to play doom eternal in a very demanding yet fun way. I like making full use of the game's mechanics, staying mobile, doing unique combos on different enemies, all of that stuff. The quintessential playstyle for doom eternal, the way the designers intended it to be played. So as soon as I got up to this fight, I was firing on all cylinders. I was meathook slinging, I was minigun shielding, I was quickswapping, I was trying to use faltering mechanics, I was blood punching, but no matter how much abuse I put that pain elemental through, he just didn't care. He just kept killing me. With his jittery dodging and machine gun lost souls. I felt like I just wasn't strong enough or fast enough to have a chance. I spent 2 hours on that section before I just gave up. They had broken me. Have the devs pushed it too far? I thought. Have they actually just made something that was straight-up un-fun and unfair?
    I decided to sleep on it. The next day I wondered if other people were having the same issue. And that's when I found your video on how to deal with spirits, and I had to re-adjust my whole strategy. I couldn't just brute-force my way through this fight on nightmare, but I was too stubborn to decrease the difficulty. And I'm glad I didn't, because once I finally managed to beat it, the amount of satisfaction I felt was so immense that it completely changed my view of the fight itself. Sure, it does kinda force you to play like a lil bitch with lock-on rockets, quickscoping, and scrambling for resources on the ground, which isn't really all that fun, but looking back I was glad that it I experienced it. Such a unique fight that invoked such a wide range of emotions, more mentally impactful of a gameplay experience than I've had in a while. They threw us such a huge curveball with this dlc, both in gameplay and lore, and looking back now I couldn't have asked for anything better out of it.

    Nightmare purist here- not only did the DLC at first get me to switch down to UV, it also taught me more about the various weapons in the game, like how powerful microwave stun is, how big the concussion radius is on grenades, how effective grenades are at opening Marauders up, how much damage the chaingun shield actually absorbs, and most importantly: how much of a DPS boost powerswapping your weapons is. Like seriously, I knew it was good on account of the 2016 SSG, but beyond the old Marauder stunlock, I never did it. Its crazy how much you can learn if you accept that it's just a little bit your fault if you're on the back foot all the time.
    Also, love your delivery. Definitely gonna stick around to see what you do next.

    The only part that really, really aggravated me was the very final phase of the last boss. But I came back with the advice I, admittedly, not so politely asked for, and beat it the first time after I dived back in. I did it all on Nightmare and I didn't lower the difficulty once, but next time, maybe I will. Or just keep trying on my own next time. That whole fight felt like a Cuphead boss and I actually adore that fight. My favourite in the whole game so far, it's everything I ask for in a good boss.

Bumping up the difficulty was such a good decision!

    you know, one thing that I would love to see is a Doom game that is just like Eternal, but has the movement mechanics of Titanfall 2, like the wall running, physics and just overall the exact same kinda movement you have as a pilot in that game. ID Software created the Doom Slayer to be more acrobatic and agile, like using the monkey bars, but I felt like he was a little too slow for a god of rage, speed and strength, but imagine if they copied the exact type of movement mechanics and physics in Titanfall 2 where the Doom Slayer could run, slide on the ground, wall run, double jump and boost just like a pilot, I think that would be the coolest thing ever and really add to the Doom Slayer's agility, speed and acrobatic skills. I mean, keep the double dash, double jump and all of that, but add in the aspects and types of movement in Titanfall 2, and I think that Doom game would add to it a whole lot more and make it that much more thrilling and enjoyable and the gameplay would get a whole lot more interesting with world building, platform strategies and having to fight demons in a way to where you're flying in the air and shooting. You know how in the multiplayer of Titanfall 2, there's different types of pilots, one of them being grapple? Well, imagine if the Doom Slayer could use the meat hook on his super shotgun not just to grapple onto demons, but also anywhere on the map, like if he needs to get up somewhere super high, he could use the meat hook and shoot it into a wall or something like that and pull himself up with it, just like the grapple pilot, now that would add a whole lot to the gameplay and make it feel almost brand new and a lot more fun. I'm sure we aren't gonna get a game like that unless indie game creators made it or if ID Software actually reads this comment and thinks, "this ain't a bad idea" and created a new Doom game with Titanfall 2-esque, super mobile, crazy movement mechanics.

    A good way to think of the speed of a game Mayo, is to think of the Interactions per minute (IPM).
    If APM is how many keys you pressed in a minute, IPM is how many conscious decisions did you make per minute, for example swapping to a new gun, changing target, getting a overview of the arena, checking your behind etc.
    Halo is a good example, because they did not really lower the APM in shooters, only from the removal of bunny jumping, but the 2 weapon limit and the recharging health, means you have to make less decisions. It is how i explain that some card games like Tongue can be high intensity even though all actions are just moving pieces of paper around.

    Gotta agree on what I like to describe as an “initial knee-jerk reaction”; playing the DLC for the first time on Nightmare was like hitting a brick wall at full speed, and this is coming from someone who has completed all master levels on Nightmare with no deaths and superweapons and also completed UNM. Ngl I was immensely salty that I was getting my ass handed a few times and just stopped playing for a while.
    But then when I really reflected on what went wrong and thought about who the DLC is meant for, I went back to play the DLC again to finish it and then also to replay levels to develop strategies. Now I can say with some confidence that I can reliably clear Blood Swamps on Nightmare with no deaths, although I can use some more practice for certain sections. I still despise the foggy arena and the arena with 1 million Barons with a possessed Baron though (and in my opinion the whole DLC will be better without those two arenas), the rest I’ve found to be really tough but the good kind of tough and the kind of tough I don’t mind going through again. I might change my opinion on those two arenas as I get better though.

    So, I don't know if you agree with me or not, but I'm slightly concerned about id software's new obsession with opening based enemies. The Marauder 's inclusion was a very good idea. But after 7 playthroughs on nightmare I came to the conclusion that I don' t want more of his kind. Here's why: The marauder isn't a bad enemy, but he's not good enough. Unlike the rest of the game which represents a perfect puzzle/dance which is very noticable, the marauder is not a puzzle. The problem I have with him is that, the player doesn't create the opening, but he has to WAIT for the opening. And since the Marauder's AI is not as smart as other enemies like Caracas and Whiplash (the marauder getting stuck to the wall while running, standing in one place and dashing left and right instead of running and attacking while in the right range, being intrupted by projectoyles etc.), their attack pattern is random. So basically, their opening is almost random. Why do I expect the opening to be more based on the players skill rather than random? Because I have seen a better enemy in another game that reminds me of the Marauder: the Fury in DMC5. Furies have certain attack patterns and can be learned. Besides, it's up to the player to make an opening with their skill, experience and domination over the combat system. What does the marauder do instead? Run towards me with me keeping distance and dodging his axe and waiting for an almost random opening. It's not hard or challenging. It's boring.
    There's another reason for me to think the marauder needs improvements: the DOOM Hunters. One of my favorite enemies. (in fact, all the non-boss enemies in Doom eternal are my favorite. I hate all of the boss fights excluding the Doom hunters.) the Doom hunters have strength and weakness points and their inclusion in a fight makes the game a better experience because they give a feeling a puzzle/dance to the game and make the player *think* and question their next moves. Use the plasma rifle to disable their shields but also be careful because their projectiles are fast. Use the blood punch to deal damage to their hovering part but be careful of their melee attack etc. You know better. The Doom hunters and almost any other enemy in Doom eternal makes you *think, makes hundreds of choices and be fast* and mobile. What does the Marauder do? Makes you run and wait for an opening which is, kinda boring.
    I was saying that id software's new obsession with this kind of enemies concerns me; Because of the inclusion of the Blood Maykrs, since they have the same issue of their opening being random. And the Gladiator too which sufferes from the same issue. I don't want id software to do *more* of these kind of enemies. I want them to make *better* of them instead because they can.
    I know you disagree with me for the most part, but thanks for reading my comment. I'm looking forward to your future content.
    P.S. Boss fight rant. Ignore this part: the Gladiator is trash. The Khan Maykr boss fight is trash too. Why is 75% of the ground always an fire? What's the point? I know they were looking for ways to make it more challenging... But why like this? Common. The final Boss is lame. Spawns random demons and, overall boring. Why isn't it a little more scripted and a little more skill based? I'm a fairly good player and always play on Nightmare, but it seriously could've been less random and more scripted so it can be more interesting to fight against.
    Edit: it's been 6 months since I wrote this comment. I have a better understanding of the enemies now. So I see them a little more differently. My opinion hasn't changed though, but I have a lot better understanding of how the enemies behave and what issues they have.

    • @Prankmeister1990
      @Prankmeister1990 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually like the Gladiator because he doesn’t just whip his shield around magically to block hitscan weapons the way that the Marauder does. If the Gladiator does a big swing and lowers his shield, you can dash to his side and unload on him no problem. The problem I have with the Marauder is that he just magically blocks *everything* even if it looks like he’s open. He should either take chip damage when he puts his shield down or he should never put his shield down outside of his parry attacks so you know exactly what’s going on.
      Also, yeah, Furies are handled much better than Marauders for sure. I feel like I can actually stay aggressive against a Fury once I know what to look for from them, while Marauders force you to play their game. Blood Makyrs do as well, but I actually mind them less because they at least properly telegraph their shield and they go down in a single Ballista shot.

      @@Prankmeister1990 unfortunately, all of slayer's moves are bound to framerate. So people with powerful PCs can easily dodge his attacks. I can't. On 60fps or lower, his attacks are undodgable. I always have to save 3 or 4 extra lives for the gladiator but I can beat the final boss in 1 run without dying.

Didn't stop me from doing my first playthrough on Nightmare (It took me three days, not including the last boss, who I had to turn the difficulty down for because I had no idea how to approach dealing with 2 spirits and a blood angel. Also fuck that boss fight), but there's no shame in turning the difficulty down to help you master it. Matter of fact, all the encounters aren't nearly as tough once you know what demons spawn and who you're priority targets are.
