I saw your review. You were right. I beat Doom for Win 95 and Doom 2 to the point I know the levels like a real life hometown. Then so much Brutal Doom. I love id and Doom. Everything you said is sensible. After my time Doom to Ancient God's 1, I expected my butthole to pucker. But no. I easily made it to the Davoth fight and I quit last night because it really was becoming eternal. I would rather loose a real boss fight than be stalemate for two hours and quit for sleep sake.
Ever consider that people who are being assholes today were assholes yesterday? Or most of them never watched your video and spotted these issues themselves and got mad? I think your overestimating your effect on the situation. And I would like say this is better, but I never saw the last one.
I definitely agree. His other video was good in my opinion. I'd say it was his fans that took it too far. Still respect the fact he redid the whole video just out of fairness
I'm too old, slow, and uncoordinated to play modern games like Doom Eternal, but I grew up playing original Doom and I love watching "gud" gameplay of Doom Eternal. For what it's worth, I want to thank you for your self-reflection and willingness to walk back the emotion while sticking to your convictions in a balanced, reasoned manner. There's too much extremism and black-and-white thinking everywhere. It's refreshing to see someone try to quell the vitriol and still move a conversation about issues forward. If it can be done with video games, it can be done in other areas. May you continue to be an example.
I totally agree on your points about balance and keeping the conversation constructive, but I'm not sure I agree on you being too old and uncoordinated 😃 Maybe you're too busy or unwilling to put in the time into acquiring this skill at this point in your life, and that's totally fine. Myself, after not playing any FPS for 20 years (and hardly any games at all besides some casual 2D games), I picked up Doom Eternal. And not only that, but I never owned a console, I was just a PC gamer in high school, and now I decided to learn to play Doom Eternal on PS. Playing a FPS on a controller for the first time is incredibly hard, but I was lucky enough to have enough free time to put into it -- I even learned how to claw grip the controller in order to always keep my thumbs on the analog sticks. It was hard and took many hours but it was also fun and satisfying. I'm far from reaching the level of the top players in this community and I can't even dream of completing a UN run at this point, but I consider myself a pretty decent player. Sorry for all the babble about myself, I was just trying to say that if you want to do it and have the time, you can become good at the game.
Yeah I barely started playing FPS games casually 2 years ago and I’m proud to be able to play on “Hurt Me Plenty” after a play through on “I’m Too Young To Die” on the main campaign. But I’m barely able to handle the easiest difficulty on the DLC. I like it the challenge though. I can tell this will be a game I enjoy playing for years to come.
THERE'S NO SUCH A THING! Take my word for it: I'm 31, which might not be too old, but here's the kicker: literally, the last videogame I played before Doom 2016 was Super Mario Bros 3. Never played an FPS or 3rdPS in my life. And whenever I'd watch somebody play Halo or Call of Duty I'd think the same: I'm just too uncoordinated, it's not worth the try... And then I saw people playing Doom 2016. Needless to say, I got hooked: Got myself a Nintendo Switch (I travel a lot for work, so getting any other console made no sense to me), a copy of the Slayer's Edition (Doom, Doom 2, Doom 3, Doom 2016) and got directly to 2016... And I got DESTROYED on the easiest difficulty within 10 seconds, BEFORE THE TITLE EVEN DROPPED. Didn't even know which button I should use to shoot. But the game is so rewarding, that I just kept going. Just a couple of weeks ago I managed to beat the game in Nightmare, which took me around a year (a lot, I know). A couple of weeks ago I started with Eternal and had the same feeling: I will NEVER be able to do what these youtubers do. All that flashy dashing, flame-throwing, meat-hook-flying, quick-weapon-changing goodness... Well, I'm still far less skilled than the elite players out there, but I got much better than I thought I ever could! And more important than that... I'M HAVING AN ABSOLUTE FREAKING BLAST PLAYING BOTH GAMES! I don't know what it is, but the developers just hit that sweet spot of challenging and rewarding. I actually laugh whenever I get killed! The games are at the same time a stress-relief and pure adrenaline in a way I can only compare to physical exercise. So, summary: 1.- I had never played FPSs before. 2.- I'm not really into video games at all, so my fingers were not used to controllers. 3.- I play on the Nintendo Switch, which is, I'd think, the trickiest way to control such a fast paced game (mind you, the gyro aiming is amazing!)... ... And I managed to get good enough to the point in which I catch myself doing something cool and I literally have to pause the game to just think "Did I do that?! That was awesome!" These games are just too good. And they do a great job in showing you the ropes without babysitting you, if that makes any sense. So believe me, if I managed to get into it and have fun playing it, you certainly can! Give it a go!!!
I think I'm borderline with this. I know my limit is somewhere way, way, way, before Ultra Nightmare, but I have managed to power through the campaign and both DLC on Nightmare, but now I've done them I'm fine with sticking to UV.
Me too! This game can really exhaust you but there's fun in the frustration of wanting to overcome things for the likes of us. I know personally I can't do Nightmare but I'll be fine with UV as is lol. And this re-review is very fair too with solid points. Thanks, Mayo!
@@achaoPSG I never did The Holt Slayer Gate on Nightmare; I could just tell it was going to take everything out of me. The 2nd Escalation encounter in Immora was also a huge challenge, but I managed to do it eventually. I'm really glad I did it all on Nightmare, just once, but UV is where my "fun zone" is.
@@richieclean Indeed. I'd rather have my fun zone, if it's on UV, then so be it. I managed to finish TAG1 in Nightmare, but as you said, it took everything out of me haha. Although, to have the full experience, I'll suffer through one more Nightmare run for TAG 2, but thank god, it seems less hard than the first DLC :D.
Way to show some self-awareness man. After seeing the community's response I was pretty worried that Hugo was just gonna get ripped apart in the chat during his next livestream. Hopefully that chat is as constructive as this video.
I don't think that it will come to that. While I disagree with almost every change they made to TAG1 (I won't complain about the blood maykr nerf), I have huge respect for how Hugo throws himself into a livestream and dead on addresses issues of the game, for example the buggy release of SGN ML. The livestream won't be super civil, but I expect id software to offer a compromise for all parties.
@@brisenosan I'm with you, I thought the nerfs to TAG1 were more disappointing than what we got in TAG2. And I'd imagine you're right, the stream won't be too bad. Its a good thing the stream is this Thursday and not last. Thaaaat mightve been problematic
@@underthemayo great vid, just wanted to mention that ppl on the doom discord made mods that remove the escalation encounters pop ups and the removal of the new sfx from the hammer and stuns. Mod community can fix the game better than ID software due to the pandemic I think. Dropping two massive DLC during a global pandemic where the team can't work together the way they really need to, together.
I feel like ive been part of a silent majority that was fairly pleased with the dlc. I also feel like I oughta pipe up about it. I rarely have huge hopes for DLC, and i remember when they just consisted of a couple levels with maybe a new weapon. TAG has satasfied me greatly on that. In terms of difficulty, i like both dlcs, but i feel they should be swapped, because part 2 feels so much easier. If it were swapped, i think the disappointment would gave been greatly diminished. And yeah, with master levels coming, we will have plenty of opportunities to get reamed. And I gotta say, after seeing your previous video on the topic, major kudos for revisiting and recomposing yourself. That takes guts. That's the kind of guts that makes so many of us non-creators of the Doom fandom look up to you. And as long as we keep on killing demons I know everything will turn out alright.
I think it would be good if you spoke out about what you liked, because it’s gonna help Id software way more if you tell them what you DO like instead of what you don’t.
I can't express how much I respect your decision to make a whole new video re-phrasing everything you said in the first review because you felt responsible for the clusterfuck of the community. Thank you.
DOOM fans when needing a lawyer:”Against all the evil that hell can conjure, all the wickedness that mankind can produce, we will send unto them, only you”
This is a lesson any critic should learn about criticism: Let go of your ego, and focus on the audiences of the product. Not doing so brings one towards bitter harshness.
What do you guys think about these ideas? When cursed by the cursed prowler: 1-You can't use the hammer 2-You can dash but your dash recharges slower (Just like in the normal campaign without upgrades) 3-You can falter cursed prowler with normally shooting him or using remote detonation/grenades or freeze him with bombs (Normally you can't do these when cursed, I think) 4-You can blood punch the cursed prowler even if you don't have the blood punch Also would it be cool if we could meathook the final boss to meathook traversal? xD
I actually like the cursed prowler as he is in my opinion - I like how when you get hit, it's an entirely different game. In fact, he's actually my favorite new enemy because of how he stresses me tf out. Not being able to dash feels like not being able to run in a nightmare tho, but it's better than being able to dash but being a little slower (think blood makyr aoe attack). I think it should announce itself a little better and I think more people would like it
I really like those ideas, it actually sounds like a well balanced and fair enemy, though I believe Cursed Prowlers shouldn't use projectiles, too small too fast and too unpredictable, just have his attacks be him teleporting in and hitting you
Hehe the tyrant is easy either way :) i never died to one i think (seriously too slow) the archvile needs a bit of a buff imo, we were teased a possessed one in this dlc but its not there
I’m surprised that they didn’t have a room where Chaingunners didn’t have Screechers accompany them from behind while you’re getting chased by a bunch of super heavies
@@eriksulin627 Yes. Wall of chain gunners with shriekers behind them. Then also spawn in Cursed prowlers, Stone imps, Pinkies, and a couple dreadknights.
I was expecting the fight against the Dark Lord to be a bit similar to the fight against Jakob from DUSK but in a deathmatch-like arena. Lot of jump pads, portals, verticality, platforming. The Dark Lord using the Slayer's arsenal, using weapon switches, runs and jumps around and such. I know it was naive to expect an AI that complex to have a similar skill to the Doom Slayer, but it would have been cool.
I feel like the armor and ammo give back of the hammer was unnecessary. Extending falter is awesome as it is, i don't know if i want anything else from it, thats what chainsaw and flamebelch are for
I LOOOVE that the Hellbreaker doubles health and armor pickups, it's such a satisfying idea, my favorite part about it. But even though I didn't find the ammo return very overpowered, since having ammo doesn't guarantee you'll be able to kill or survive (I still reflexively chainsaw after I hit the hammer anyways...lol), I'd be fine with that aspect being removed.
I cant believe mayo didnt mention the incredibly funny giant tentacle troll at the end of the word spear. Shit popped out of nowhere and made me laugh for like 10 minutes.
Yeah, I watched it on Toyota's livestream and I was like: WHAAAAAAA?????? It's great that the devs are making fun of their community like that, and even better is that the comunity takes it well.
yeah, clear the first floor of a stage, work your way up to the second floor platforming section above the stage, whilst flying through the air it spawns and knocks you back down to the first floor, loved that part
Killing a cursed prowler while I was cursed was exhilarating. When he hit me, I had no blood punches ready. So I had to ignore him for a sec and keep fighting, and I GKd a Mancubus and got a blood punch and meathooked to the prowler and killed him. After I got out of that mindset that "damn, I can't do anything, I'm dead now" and got into the mindset of "Get aggressive and kill something to get him back" it instantly made him more fun to fight.
Totally agree, when I went through almost the exact same situation, I felt like I was enacting revenge on a Demon that had wronged me. But in order for that to happen, the enemy needs to be annoying, I expect minor changes to the character, and admittedly I wish his model looked a little more different so it's more distinguishable (too many times did I mistake the green color for a cyberMancubus projectile) but overall when I'm on the hunt for the cursed Prowler it triggers something in my chimp brain that normally has been dulled by the millions of marauders, Barons, and Doom Hunters i've encountered in the past
@@Xeotroid I've never had issues with blood punch, even before it was fixed for other players. I know it's not exactly fair to judge my experience as the end all be all of every player, but I see more people having less problems with it now
I like them too; I never really used the wolf sounds before TAG2, because I often couldn’t pick them out in a fight. In general, I don’t mind all the extra signposting in TAG2. If it means more players pick up more gameplay mechanics, that’s great.
FRAG/ICE GRENADE IN THE RACECAR HUD!! YES!! You're one of the only people I've seen mention this and it's been driving me insane!Thank you!!! The devs seem to be pretty receptive to feedback so fingers crossed.
I have a lot of respect for you, Mayo. As someone who really enjoyed TAG2, I’m glad to see you’re being more civilized this time around, even if you didn’t enjoy it. It’s especially refreshing since the community’s gotten so hostile now, and it’s scary for me to even say that I liked it, even more than I liked TAG1. I know it wasn’t your intention. But even when I finished, I said to myself “This is gonna be disappointing for a lot of people.” I do wish it was harder, the lore twists were out of nowhere, and the final boss could’ve been so much more. It’s obvious it was rushed for the year one deadline. But I can look past it personally, and I have faith id will listen to the community and change some things for the better.
@@miguelcorreia6777 I don’t think it’s *better* per se. TAG1 is absolutely better designed. I just enjoyed TAG2 more, since I had some pacing problems with TAG1, especially toward the end. The Seraphim fight was too much for me, and I beat the base game on Nightmare and enjoyed the new Slayer Gate. Haven’t tried it since the nerfs outside of Atlantica, so maybe that’ll change things.
I really like the lore twist actually , and i like over all what i saw but PT 1 is kinda better yea . I have respect for Mayo too and wile i don't agree with every little thing , i am glad he took the time to remake his review bc i thought , it was a bit too much and also wondered when he will adress the toxic meltdown in the community .
tbh my main issue with the DLC was the story...it's bad, i know doom isn't mainly about the story but the writing is bad with a shitload of retcons and a twist that has 0 impact, it was right at the end, davoth was going to die anyway and it's not like Doomguy gave a fuck about the reveal. the issue with the difficulty didn't bother me that much cause i usually play on hurt me plenty. i understand the frustration of some players cause their fun was really harmed by the nerf, but i do agree they overreacted. and review bomb is a dumb thing to do and doesn't help the game at all. like some people said i do beleive that high difficulties should remain as they were back then. for me someone casual shouldn't be palying nightmare/UN. i don't know if that's possible but in classic doom with harder difficulties there were more demons spawns+ more aggressivity.
Remember the arena before getting the SSG in cultist base from the base game . The notorious mancubus , whiplash room . We need some more arenas like that .
I like the Cursed Prowlers idea, and how it forces you to hunt it down. Its a unique take, but it just needs a couple tweaks: -Having its own sound you can recognize like you said -He will always die to a punch, whether or not you have a blood punch saved -Dash is not removed or maybe its max is reduced to 1 until he is killed.
Amazing review Mayo, thank you for enduring all the backlash and delivering yet again. We love this game so much and respect and support id Software for making it, but this doesn't mean we shouldn't politely express our perplexities when the moment comes. At the end of the day, we just want this game to the best as possible for everyone.
Best quote: "If you had to send someone into court to defend Doom Eternal, you would send me". I first found you BECAUSE you were defending Doom Eternal, and I think your arguments lend a lot of credit on why Doom Eternal is such a great game, and your presentation of those arguments is basically the best I have seen from any channel. Great job arguing both sides and trying to keep the community in a good place instead of just instantly hating something they don't immediately love, keep up the good work!
Unrelated to this video, but about an hour ago I just did my first UN on TAG1, shook like crazy during the boss battle. Thank you for all the videos you've been making, I don't exaggerate when I say that I could't have made it without all the help they've given me. Thanks Mayo!
I feel so bad about what’s happening. As a mid tier, I have my issues with TAG 2 and some of the enemy nerfs, but there are things they can fix about this. I still enjoyed the DLC for what it was, though. Also, this is id Software, not EA or Activision. Hugo cares about our feedback, and I’m sure he’ll make sure certain things are fixed or given options to change. There’s no need for my favorite community to become this toxic...
Hugo has been actively gathering feedback ever scince TAG2 came out, and that clearly shows that he cares about the community, unlike most game developers/companies
Sun Zu said that! And I think he knows a little more about burning your house down than you do, pal, because he invented it! And then he bested it so that no living man could best him in the ring of fire!
"Despite their trangressions against the covenant, they are still of Sentinel blood..." "Who are you--a human, once a mortal--to defy OUR traditions?!" "Your gifts...are OWED to us now." Doomguy: ...*cocks shotgun*
@@lolcow6668 really? DOOM 2016 Ultra Nightmare was harder in first levels but in mid to endgame its a bit of a joke mostly due too OP runes such as equipment rune which makes siphon grenades give out armor , rich get richer literally giving you infinite ammo stuff like plasma rifle stun bomb and gauss cannon siege mode stuff that has very little cooldowns and can be exploited to hell and back ... literally
That pinky rush after the first totem in Tag2 reminded me of monster closets in the original doom. I loved it! Need more 'on your toes' surprises like that. If you're skillful you can evade it, but it still makes you shit your pants.
The ending statement, right there. Hit the nail on the head. Thats why you're such a respected name in the community. Keep doing what you're doing, good sir!!
I love the idea of the screecher being a pressure unit instead of an ambient one. Just like them being kind of like whiplashes but with a different design, sort of looking banshee like with no mechanical bits. And then they would come up to the player like when the whiplash starts closing the gap on you woth a highly audible sound effect to know that you should hold your heavier fire because it's going to come up to you and just buff everything and put you at a disadvantage
I was imagining something that looked kind of like the second form of G Birkin from RE2 Remake with it's ghostly looking flesh head and human stuck in all the muck of the G virus corruption
@@middleCased Good idea. Rework the screecher so that when it makes a sound it overpowers all of the other sound cues, which will then disorient and make you lose track of the demons around you.
I hope they put the possessed Baron of hell back in TAG 1 Blood Swamps. And some of the tentacles. I am fine with 1 Baron of Hell + 1 hell knight instead of 2 Barons. I think that is fair.
I really don't need the tentacles in the fog, but they should have left the others. For me mainly the changes at the start of Atlantica were too many. I'm fine with one caco less, or maybe only one cyber mancubus in the last room (of the first area I mean), maybe only one of the hellknights in the first encounter. I don't need those changes but I would be okay with them.
@@hundinger1 I like the tentacles in the fog exactly because it is unexpected and fucks with the players. Blood Swamps is my favourite level in Domm Eternal since it fucked the most with me. I do nto want fair, I want to be entertained.
@@CharcharoExplorer Yes, I understand you like it. But you also have to understand that they won't change it all back to how it was before. And those tentacles I'm gonna miss least. Their absence don't change the difficulty of the fog section too much. The beginning of Atlantica on the other hand has changed dramatically.
@@hundinger1 I guess so. I never felt the beginning of Atlantica was hard though. I find it a fairly relaxed level overall even before the changes. Very good level make no mistake. I just do not really think the intros there were hard at all. I got back into Doom after a 3 month hiatus and easily rolled through the first half of the map on Nightmare without dying. It is blood swamps where I started getting my ass kicked...
I feel like the reason the community went crazy over this is because id software has been releasing such great content since 2016 for Doom and the moment something comes out thats controversial and generally considered to be mediocre the community freaks out and splits and goes even more nuts. I’m disappointed with DLC2 and don’t think it’s up to the quality of part 1 or the base game but I enjoyed it quite a bit. I’m just disappointed in the community with how they handled getting their issues across.
Now that you've said "TAG 1 has so many more memorable moments." I'm genuinely struggling to think of TAG 2 encounters which were genuinely memorable. I can only really recall the double marauder screecher and that escalation with 2 archviles at the end. I can recall so much more from TAG 1. I just feel like TAG 2 is perfectly fine. Which is a shame when the rest of the game was excellent. I hope that the master level will be great. Sadly I can't enjoy the super gore nest master level as the big open arena is the one place in the game my computer can't handle.
This is more like the Under The Mayo video I was expecting. I think sometimes we vent our frustrations a little too early without stewing on it first. I agree for the most part. It’s a solid DLC that could use some touching up in places. I’m conflicted on the Hammer. It can feel overpowered but I also like the feeling that we’re close to the end and it makes you feel like you’ve gotten stronger and are almost an unstoppable demon slaying BEAST!
I've never seen a community get so pissy about such relatively minor nit picks as the doom community is doing over TAG-2. And knowing most of this community is people who are 30+ years old it's doubly pathetic.
For real what happened in the Doom community this past week was a complete clusterfuck. It really shouldn't have reached that level, but yet here we are
@@Shrapnel-qy4xi which is a bit embarrassing, because I don't think anyone thinks TAG-2 is flat out bad. Plenty of people in the halo community think that some combination of the games after halo 3 are flat out bad. About the most critical opinion I've seen on TAG-2 is that it's merely OK and is a severe disappointment... And that's what drove the outrage? Geez...
I just wanna say, I think you’re becoming one of my favorite TH-cam channels. My favorite part about your content is when you mention guide videos you’re showing fans cool tricks yet you’re not forcing them to do it. I feel like some other TH-camrs when they mention you missed the point of what you’re trying to say. (Hopefully that makes sense) just keep up the good work and have a good time.
In my opinion, I think one thing TAG 2 has over TAG 1, and the base game for that matter, is the Pinky. I really loved how they used the Pinky in TAG 2. They really utilised their behaviour and strength in numbers to it’s fullest in this DLC. They’re are so many memorable Pinky encounters in TAG 2 and I really love that my favourite demon is finally being utilised to its fullest potential.
Pretty noble of you to do this, Mayo. I feel like a lot of the time you hold yourself to a standard a majority of 'official game reviewers' don't even hold themselves to, and that's really admirable. Looking forward to checking out your revised thoughts in this review.
I want to address the cursed Prowler. In my opinion, he works better without you knowing he entered the arena specifically to surprise you with his attack to catch you off guard. If he'd announce himself like the blood makyr does, it would encourage you to cheese the fight and wait for him to spawn in, turning a fight into a waiting game. This is especially present in the DLC because he is so rarely placed so you will remember when he shows up, and the issue that I mentioned appears. The perfect way to include them in any campaign would be through randomness though, and the randomizer mod might just fix most of the balancing issues rightaway too.
The esc. encounter. If it was in 3 waves, I would split rewards for 1st wave. It means., 1st wave would let you just go on and then the second would upgrade the hammer. The 3rd gives cosmetics. You get achievement for fully upgrading the hammer and I dont like having too much achievements in game for "yeey you walked trough the game"
In my opinion this dlc could be great if they make master levels for it, the only ploblem is that the the master levels are coming VERY slow. I hope that now that the two dlcs are out they focus on master levels.
With Ancient Gods finally done I think it's super likely the dev team's productivity will skyrocket. Master levels, Invasion mode, Battlemode updates, quality of life stuff... It could be a golden age!
When it comes to the hammer, hoenstly? I think a good way to balance it, is for it to not charge when you glory kill fodder enemies, and instead only charge when you glory kill heavy or super heavy enemies, that way, you can't just spam it to no end, and you have to actually commit to charging it and using it in the right moment.
@@uegeywcewhdvsdge318 Yeah, it forces you to make different decisions, suddenly now, you can't just kill all the heavies instantly, because you need some of them to be barely alive to get the hammer, but, you could also sometimes have to make the decision to actually kill them instantly, because they cause too much trouble and are not worth it to go for a glory kill.
My point of view is that needing 3 heavy-superheavy demon glory kills to refill. Lets say theres whiplashes, hell knights, pinkies, dread knights all in one room. You have to decide fast cause whiplashes can deal absurd damage with their attacks while the others will chase you. Lock on kills most of them but then you run into the problem of you killed the others with lockon but now you dont have/or have minimal charges for the next more intense fight
Just a thought about the colour pallettes of the first two levels. I think it works better if you play TAG 1 and 2 in order. That way you have two grimy levels, followed by a cleaner Urdak one, followed by an unprecedented earthlike session, and finally a sort of twisted version of Urdak.
Nice review! I agree with a lot of the points you made and this review blows mine out of the water lol! Thanks for redoing the video and having a more positive light to the situation!
@@underthemayo I just finished recording my VOX recently so it'll be uploaded tomorrow. No problem! Yeah that would be very tiresome to do within that short time span. I would never be able to do with everything outside of TH-cam.
I feel the Dark Lord fight could be improved if he was faster and more aggressive. A lot of the fight as it is now feels like you have to bait him into attacking at all. It would be more intense if he came at you and slashed his sword faster and in successive combos, forcing to both dodge and figure out the exact right time to parry him in the small between attacks. Basically, make him Possessed.
I'd say Id will definitely at least tweak the fight a bit. Probably make him more aggressive and/or add more demons/apparitions to the dark lord's arsenal. The more attack variety and intensity, the better the fight will be in my honest opinion.
I also didn’t like farming for the hammer ammo after it’s basically mandatory to use on the group of spirits (not the dogs). It kept me from actually being engaged in the fight with the boss.
I did find the final boss a little disappointing I was really hoping for a final boss that would get me to use all my weapons to counter him but I only used 2 to kill him. TAG 2 just felt fun rather than challenging which at times can feel a little disappointing since I found TAG 1 both fun and challenging. It's good to be challenged and they probably should have made the fights have more demons in higher difficulties and keep lower difficulties how it is right now, for both TAG 1 and 2.
It really says a lot about my respect for ID and bethesda that i am almost 100% sure that they will make a full 180 and once again make one of the best dlc ever.
13:31 My brother is exactly that way, he gets destroyed in UV all the time and gets super angry but yells at me when i tell him he has to lower the difficulty
HEY Mayo! Hugo talked about you on stream today! You are doing God's work! We got a confirmation that they listen to you, you're constructive and friendly videos are carrying this community
This... this is classy. I think it's hard to objectively approach something when it doesn't meet your expectations. I still haven't played TAG2 yet because of work, but I think I can approach it with a more neutral mindset when I do, now that you've released this. Thanks for this.
Bravo, I have the utmost respect for you, Mayo. You did this more professionally and didn't let your feeling take dictation of the conversation. I agree with most of criticism, but I have likes and dislikes elsewhere, but at least we can act like adults on the matter Edit: I know I was the dickhead in the last video, but I too, am human and makes mistakes, and for that, I'm sorry. Hopefully, we can be mature about that and move on
When it comes to Barons, I'm a strong believer that they need to come in pairs. That way you have two big, fast demons you have to switch your focus from and it just, makes battles way more interesting in my opinion.
Agreed, especially in smaller spaces. The possessed ones in particular are the bane of my existence. That ridiculous rate of fire destroys me every time.
Back in your last review Mayo, I was about to comment how you failed to see how TAG 2 was catered to everybody and that you were too caught up with your disappointment but after watching this re-review I now understand your perspective a lot more and this balanced approach of discussion is really refreshing amongst the outrage in the community. The part about the surprising encounters and the lack of it in TAG 2 really helped me understand why I thought it was easier and that was it. Once again a good quality review and we appreciate all that you have contributed to the community. Can't wait to see more content on doom and other games from you!
This is why I re did it. The emotional side of my video distracted from my arguments, and that's not something I want when I want a game to be supported and improved.
I still think TAG2 feels bad. The emphasis in this game was in the visuals instead of the gameplay. Just to mention an example was the majority of the open arenas of World Spear, it is just imp spam. Anyways it feels good to hear adults giving their opinion in a respectful manner.
I think this is especially true for immora (I think that's what mission 3 was called?) It was a PHENOMENAL set piece, and the environment and art design really made you feel like you're in the middle of a massive siege. The issue is that I felt so disconnected from it. Everything felt super easy, and I didn't feel like I was contributing to the siege at all
That pinky moment was the only time I died in the dlc, and not because it was difficult like you said, but because it was a surprise. A good one at that.
Having a open arena with a meat hook point with floors would have been perfect for the cursed prowler. Wish there were more ways to meathook your way to the cursed prowler.
Im too young to die needs to stay easy, for some people its just fun to be able to blast demons and feel invincible and never worry about dying. Sometime its nice to not have a challenge.
Whatever, I still think id over promised on the dlc 2 and under delivered, things need to be fixed but most of them won't let's be real, nobody gives an f but I'll just play something else that's it
On the Dark Lord, the point of him needing extra context is a really good point. At the very least, he should use all the fodder types instead of just zombies. Imps, Gargoyles, Soldiers, heck, even the new DLC fodder like Stone Imps and Riot Soldiers and even Screechers!! That alone would make the fight much more interesting. Hell, Konvas' "rework" mod adds Pinkies and Cacos in the middle phase. I think that fight could use way more pressure.
Me: Yes, I'm finally starting to get the hang of quickswitching; I really get why people love the SSG-Ballista combo now Also me: *sees Mayo casually quickswitch through his entire arsenal to kill a Baron* Oh... alright then...
Ok, I decided to skim through all the written negative reviews on steam (626 at this time of this comment, while there are 1275 positive ones), and... where's the so-called toxicity? I've seen at most maybe a dozen negative reviews that had filtered out curse words, that's it. Pretty much all the other reviews seem to have legitimate points (most common one I found was the complaint about how the final boss fight is lame). I think you blew this WAY out of proportion. This game made nearly half a billion dollars in revenue, and doing some rough math, that could be approximately 7.5 million copies of the game sold, meaning there are possibly as much as 7.5 million people that have played the game. A dozen bad eggs out of that many is... 0.00016% of the player base. I don't think Marty, Hugo, or anyone else at id is going to bothered by a teeny portion of DOOM players, especially since they are grown adults and not sheltered kindergartners, so why should you? I guarantee you the board meetings these guys have to attend put whatever your notion of "toxicity" is to shame, so a few angry statements from randos on the internet will bounce right off them. Seriously, how soft has the world become? While this new review is definitely better written, you still shouldn't have taken down the original, as that honestly had little effect on the negativity toward id. You're not only being too hard on yourself, but you're also giving the folks at id too little credit when it comes to being able to handle criticism and have inadvertently painted the DOOM community in a bit of a negative light by making it seem like a large portion of them were being unfairly negative about it when the reality is they're a very small minority. It's not like you directly told people to go be negative about the game, you only expressed your feelings about it. It's not your problem if others go about their own way with expressing their opinions. Personal accountability exists after all. And yes there might be some community in-fighting, but like demons in-fighting in the game, it rarely happens.
Okay so I’m going to give my two cents on the story here. I feel like I didn’t enjoy the twist as much as I should have. Here’s why. Codex entries. I read every single Codex in my first play through. The problem? Halfway through the DLC, you pick up an entry that reveals that Davoth was the one who created the Maykrs. Reading it left me stunned and I liked it. However, in the final moments of the DLC, when the Dark Lord tells The Father to “tell us”, I was expecting another bombshell revelation. Imagine my disappointment when it’s a repeat on a piece of information I learned an hour ago. It felt cheap to put it into a Codex entry. I feel like it should have been something saved exclusively for the ending. I feel adamantly that the reveal would have had a much more profound impact on me if I heard it in a cutscene instead of reading it. Maybe that’s just me. Let me know what you guys think.
Yeah, I think they revealed a bit too much in the codex, against their motto of "showing not telling" like previous games The twist itself is also the problem cuz it's really is a retcon when it shouldn't be, like why do we even need to read the codex in the first place?
Awesome video man. I watched your other video and give respect to you on that video because I felt the same way. I was really pissed to hear about all the changes that happened but we all just need to calm down about it and respect what ID is trying to accomplish. I am confidant that ID will make it right, they've given us an amazing game and expect more awesome content from them.

I totally agree on your points about balance and keeping the conversation constructive, but I'm not sure I agree on you being too old and uncoordinated 😃
Maybe you're too busy or unwilling to put in the time into acquiring this skill at this point in your life, and that's totally fine.
So, summary:
1.- I had never played FPSs before.
That was awesome!"
These games are just too good. And they do a great job in showing you the ropes without babysitting you, if that makes any sense. So believe me, if I managed to get into it and have fun playing it, you certainly can!
Give it a go!!!
“Stubborn people that don’t know their own limits” Oh! That’s me!

I don't think that it will come to that.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^
now that's a good idea !
YES
Definitely need this
They could even stick it the Slayer's man cave.
What do you guys think about these ideas?
When cursed by the cursed prowler:
1-You can't use the hammer
2-You can dash but your dash recharges slower (Just like in the normal campaign without upgrades)
3-You can falter cursed prowler with normally shooting him or using remote detonation/grenades or freeze him with bombs (Normally you can't do these when cursed, I think)
4-You can blood punch the cursed prowler even if you don't have the blood punch
Also would it be cool if we could meathook the final boss to meathook traversal?
I think it should announce itself a little better and I think more people would like it
@@mitchellis7738 he would be better if he didn't run far away after the hit sometimes
I really like those ideas, it actually sounds like a well balanced and fair enemy, though I believe Cursed Prowlers shouldn't use projectiles, too small too fast and too unpredictable, just have his attacks be him teleporting in and hitting you
Being cursed refills one blood punch charge? Maybe that would be too much?
Faltering needs to by normal means not just by base weapon damage damage.
Imagine an archvile or a cyber demon with a screecher hidden right behind him. That's some evil stuff right there
That’s exactly what we wanted from this dlc lmao
That’s some villainy right there
Hehe the tyrant is easy either way :) i never died to one i think (seriously too slow) the archvile needs a bit of a buff imo, we were teased a possessed one in this dlc but its not there
I’m surprised that they didn’t have a room where Chaingunners didn’t have Screechers accompany them from behind while you’re getting chased by a bunch of super heavies
Yes, i was also expecting that, and would be even more cool if we played as the dark lord in some part of the DLC
that's a pretty nice idea ! but it would too hard to program
I feel like the armor and ammo give back of the hammer was unnecessary. Extending falter is awesome as it is, i don't know if i want anything else from it, thats what chainsaw and flamebelch are for
Exactly
I LOOOVE that the Hellbreaker doubles health and armor pickups, it's such a satisfying idea, my favorite part about it.
But even though I didn't find the ammo return very overpowered, since having ammo doesn't guarantee you'll be able to kill or survive (I still reflexively chainsaw after I hit the hammer anyways...lol), I'd be fine with that aspect being removed.
I hate the hammer :(
I cant believe mayo didnt mention the incredibly funny giant tentacle troll at the end of the word spear. Shit popped out of nowhere and made me laugh for like 10 minutes.
Mojo should be in more fights. He works perfectly as an unpredictable surprise
I legit lost an extra life to that little shit. Was completely unexpected.
Mojo is one of the best additions to the game
Killing a cursed prowler while I was cursed was exhilarating. When he hit me, I had no blood punches ready. So I had to ignore him for a sec and keep fighting, and I GKd a Mancubus and got a blood punch and meathooked to the prowler and killed him. After I got out of that mindset that "damn, I can't do anything, I'm dead now" and got into the mindset of "Get aggressive and kill something to get him back" it instantly made him more fun to fight.
That's how I see him, and personally I love those guys.
I actually had to pause the game and think about what to do because I was getting overwhelmed trying to kill the damn thing and I had no BP. Loved it.
Until the blood punch doesn't kill it twice in a row.
@@Xeotroid I've never had issues with blood punch, even before it was fixed for other players. I know it's not exactly fair to judge my experience as the end all be all of every player, but I see more people having less problems with it now

Man be careful, you just said you think TAG2 is better than TAG1. I can hear the horde coming-
@@miguelcorreia6777 I don’t think it’s *better* per se.
IF they listen. and they won't.
Remember the arena before getting the SSG in cultist base from the base game . The notorious mancubus , whiplash room . We need some more arenas like that .
Did they nerfed that beauty too?
I like the Cursed Prowlers idea, and how it forces you to hunt it down. Its a unique take, but it just needs a couple tweaks:
-Having its own sound you can recognize like you said
-He will always die to a punch, whether or not you have a blood punch saved
-Dash is not removed or maybe its max is reduced to 1 until he is killed.
maybe not the punch thing since theres no other demon that dies to the punch
(I know you CAN technically kill them by punching but you know)
Amazing review Mayo, thank you for enduring all the backlash and delivering yet again. We love this game so much and respect and support id Software for making it, but this doesn't mean we shouldn't politely express our perplexities when the moment comes. At the end of the day, we just want this game to the best as possible for everyone.
I like the new wolf sound. He’s actually kinda scary when you’re running away and you hear him growling and barking behind you
as someone who already had music cranked up past where Mayo has his, i'm not complaining about it. I didn't know the dog even made a sound.

"Let's head in the right direction, instead of driving off a cliff"

Now that you've said "TAG 1 has so many more memorable moments." I'm genuinely struggling to think of TAG 2 encounters which were genuinely memorable. I can only really recall the double marauder screecher and that escalation with 2 archviles at the end. I can recall so much more from TAG 1. I just feel like TAG 2 is perfectly fine. Which is a shame when the rest of the game was excellent. I hope that the master level will be great. Sadly I can't enjoy the super gore nest master level as the big open arena is the one place in the game my computer can't handle.

The 2nd half of World Spear is amazing like holy shit, the snowy area is sick
It really shouldn't have reached that level, but yet here we are
Doom was starting to look like the Halo community for a second.

Like really bullying what is this twitter, people making fun of people who like Ancient gods part 2 grow up, people can have their own opinions.
Twitter is a hell in it's own little special way.
@@DoomguyIsGrinningAtYou. Where's Twit Slayer when you need him?
Also for players like me who spam lock on on most heavies which kills them with 1 lock on. Either get rid of the danger or go for a glory kill
I would change absolutely nothing about it and just bump the enemy numbers to compensate for the fact that you have such a powerful weapon.
What about the Dark Lord fight?
Just a thought about the colour pallettes of the first two levels. I think it works better if you play TAG 1 and 2 in order. That way you have two grimy levels, followed by a cleaner Urdak one, followed by an unprecedented earthlike session, and finally a sort of twisted version of Urdak.
Nice review! I agree with a lot of the points you made and this review blows mine out of the water lol! Thanks for redoing the video and having a more positive light to the situation!
Havent seen yours or anyone's yet! You can imagine how swamped I've been putting out 2 30 minute reviews in two days. Lol. And thanks!
Thank you Mayo for caring about this game, the dev team, and the community enough to re-upload your DLC2 Review. You deserve the respect you get
I did find the final boss a little disappointing I was really hoping for a final boss that would get me to use all my weapons to counter him but I only used 2 to kill him.

Bravo, I have the utmost respect for you, Mayo. You did this more professionally and didn't let your feeling take dictation of the conversation. I agree with most of criticism, but I have likes and dislikes elsewhere, but at least we can act like adults on the matter
Edit: I know I was the dickhead in the last video, but I too, am human and makes mistakes, and for that, I'm sorry. Hopefully, we can be mature about that and move on
When it comes to Barons, I'm a strong believer that they need to come in pairs. That way you have two big, fast demons you have to switch your focus from and it just, makes battles way more interesting in my opinion.
I hope the arachnatron is reverted to normal. I liked that it felt like a threat throughout the entire game, no matter the context of the encounter.
Same I love arachnatrons the nerf to them was not a good idea.

I died to the very first wolf fog fountain on my first playthrough. Those possessed shield-shotgunners... They shred ya
I can hear this man holding back his massive ego with every fiber of his being.
Lmfao I was thinking the same thing
Same here
What?
Having a open arena with a meat hook point with floors would have been perfect for the cursed prowler. Wish there were more ways to meathook your way to the cursed prowler.
Im too young to die needs to stay easy, for some people its just fun to be able to blast demons and feel invincible and never worry about dying. Sometime its nice to not have a challenge.
It's also good for people who suck at FPS games or have had age catch up to them and their dexterity and reflexes just aren't the same.

Yeah, I think they revealed a bit too much in the codex, against their motto of "showing not telling" like previous games
The twist itself is also the problem cuz it's really is a retcon when it shouldn't be, like why do we even need to read the codex in the first place?
