Ah, Mega Man X4, what a masterpiece. I play it on my Switch all the time. The Mega Man Legacy Collections are pretty much the best things since canned bread.
It was always hard for me to imagine Capcom topping the original Mega Man X SNES game, and X2 and X3 didn't change my mind. X4, though. Damn - playing this makes me want to be the Kool-Aid guy. Taking this game to someone's house, busting through their wall and shouting, "Oooh yeah!" would be such a satisfying way to expose anyone to one of Inafune's true masterworks!
I read Inafune's article in Gamespot, it made me put in perspective what someone like him had to go through. Basically made him like mascot, and most of the money has gone to Capcom and only got a few. -_-
+Santo Tan I read he got shafted pretty badly. Maybe not quite what Konami did to Kojima, but not too far from it. I'm glad it didn't get to him so bad that he quit making games. He's on of the greats, up there with Miyamoto and Naka imo
This game was definitely a showcase of what the 32-Bit systems were capable of in 2D, kinda like WipeOut and Tomb Raider were for 3D. You could really see that the PS1 and Saturn were so much more powerful than the 16-Bit generation!
It's a damn shame most major game series had to make the switch to 3D. We didn't get nearly enough of these stunning looking 2D games on the PS1 or the Saturn.

I love how Dragoon's main thing was to fight X, but you didn't give him that satisfaction. You beat him down with a Ride Armor, so Dragoon STILL doesn't know how strong you are, yourself. Very clever "screw you, traitor" tactic!
Funny how even if General had no intents to go Maverick initially, he and Repliforce played right into Sigma's hands thanks to Sigma getting Magma Dragoon to work for him, and leading to the events of the game. If a remake to X4 was done, I'd see not just solo stories for X and Zero, but a joint one where you split off from each of them over the course of the game until the events of Final Weapon and the final clash with Sigma. I can imagine some big differences like a talk between X and Zero on the way home, with Zero unsure what to do after Iris's death, as well as X worrying HE could turn Maverick too with Zero, even in his doubt, reassuring him he's stronger than he thinks, but X still asking Zero to deal with him if he DOES turn.
Finally watched this. Wow, the difference in the art, including backgrounds, sound, & even the animated intro & cutscenes. Intense, w/a lot of people killed in the city to start. Good stuff w/Double. And Sigma was a menace. Nice job.
I remember my dentist had a ps1 kiosk with this game and I would always play it when I went it. I was born in 2000 but have nostalgia for this game because of it, now that I think of it, it was pretty cool they had this there.
I guess a lot of ppl doesn't know that the Web Spider's weakness is used to cut the web that hold her and she falls on the ground losing a LOT of energy. But when she mount that big web, the Slash doesn't do this...
Agreed: the 1st 2 games might as well be the same game, since they only take-place 6 mo apart, and are both incredibly well-made. Plot, enemies, weap0ns, level-design, and more are incredible in both games. 3rd and 4th are good, but not like 1 & 2 were. X5 couldve been good, if you didnt get interrupted every few seconds....and X6 wouldve been ok too, if it had more effort put into some of the levels, and also more explanation into Gate, Isoc, and High Max (which is an off sounding name for an enemy). I wanted to like X7, but it had more of a weird "saturday morning cartoon" feel to it. Whereas X8 seemed good, for what they were trying to do with some of the more 3D aspects.
I still have this one and NEVER beat though. I ❤ed the hell out of the 🎸🎹 like crazy. The Magma Dragon fight was so BOSS like what the heck did he just say - Ha-Do-Ken 🔥🐉 3/31/24
The only reason X4 seems so great even today is that you can play as Zero. If you cancel that out, X4 falls behind X3, X2 and even X1. X4 is damn short and with X you are playing the easy mode.

I really like X4 (just behind the original X) but the absolute lack of restraint from EVERYBODY and the fact you can't stop something without exploding it, makes it hard for me to replay the early-mid game. The end is fine, but anything up to Sigma is just bad writing made worse by the atrocious voice overs.
