- A playthrough of Capcom's 1993 Super Nintendo run-and-gun platform game, Mega Man X.
Capcom's seminal 16-bit Mega Man debut kicked off a brand new series with an edge and style that we hadn't yet dared dream of when it first came out. It was unquestionably an evolution of the classic Mega Man as we knew and loved him, but everything felt new and fresh again. The darker story, the edgier, meticulously detailed sprites, the amazing synth rock soundtrack, and the bevy of power upgrades introduced fit together so impossibly well that it was clear it was a classic the day it launched. It also marks the first appearance of Zero and Sigma, and Wily is nowhere to be found!
MMX was universally praised, and somehow seems to be even more popular now than it ever was in the early 90s. Many would argue that the series never again hit the heights that Capcom achieved here the first time out, and I'd be inclined to agree. The X series features some fantastic titles, but I don't think any of them ever quite nailed it as soundly as the first. X4 was close (imo, for what it's worth), but what Inafune and co. crammed into the tiny 12megabit rom in this cart is nothing short of miraculous.
I played this when I was young, but then who didn't that had access to an SNES? This is not the same version I'm most familiar with, though. We rented the SNES cart many times, and I borrowed it from friends, but I didn't get my own copy until the PC version was released, and I played it to death. It's not quite the same, but it's close :) Still, nothing beats the original, and this is still as good a game today as the hype from 23 years ago promised it would be back then. Quite an achievement, I'd say.

It's difficult to compete with a classic this big - it's among the best of the best that the system had to offer, and with a library like the SNES had, that's an amazing achievement.
I think this is in the top 5(maybe 3) games ever made during its era. The game had everything a player could ask for. It's my personal favorite game of all time
Mega Man X I managed to beat it 32 minutes.
@@matthewguinn7977 Legend has it that NintendoComplete can beat it in 5 minutes, blindfolded while eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with both hands and drinking Kool-Aid through a beer helmet.
SNES is the stuff of legends. 500 years from now, and longer, people are going to still be talking about it.
@@rjcupidThat would make for one helluva video, wouldn't it? 😂
The music on games back then was so iconic. It's a whole other level
Games like this will _never_ die.
Yup I still playing it all 7 games even zero games lol
Even 6 ? lol
Just picked up a cartridge of this game for 25 bucks at the disc replay. X2 was 134.00 😂

@@NVG_xD i did this so long ago ill change for u though
As someone who has never played this before but will soon (just got it on official hardware yesterday!), what is the point of the revisits? I'm purposely not watching most of this to avoid spoilers. Just watched the first world to see general tips/tricks for play style
This is hands down my favorite Mega Man game of them all!
And my oldest one's favorite too!
rcblazer Mine too
Me too
is my fav too!
Same
What I like about this game is that once you get the upgrades, it gets less difficult and more fun! Easily one of my all time favorites
Spark Mandril’s song still get stuck in my head several times a year all these decades later. Such an awesome game and the music is just absolute 🔥
I don’t know if it’s the best Megaman game, but this is definitely my favorite Megaman game. I absolutely adore this game.
I’ve played every mega man game and the music in this game is on another level. I know the music probably shouldn’t be the primary factor in determining whether a game is good or not, but it’s so good to me that I can’t help but believe this is the best. Game. Ever.
@@barducapepper4063 Music can definitely take a "really really good" game and elevate it to "great."
@@CrimsonCavalierGaminggameplay is the backbone of a game, but for me music makes it memorable
Played this game over and over again as a kid. I loved everything about it
Gaming began here for me. X was the very 1st game I played that I can remember having a major impact on me. My all time favorite hero and game will always be X1
its 2023 and this game still looks good
Just saying the same thing to my friend! I remember my brother and I trading off turns trying to beat this after school (1994!!)
I’m still enjoying it myself, I’m 2024!
Just picked up a cartridge a the disc replay today. Can’t wait to pop it in!
Definitely aged well.
My favorite Mega Man game ever and one of the BEST games the SNES had to offer....
Childhood memories.. makes me wanna cry 😢 🎮😩🤦🏽♀️🎮
M.6 .
Mega Man X is the BEST SNES game ever created
Yeah I agree

Secret of Evermore/Mana waren Genial
i prefer super metroid but this game is easily up there.
25:46 Yo this song's really good
Spark Mandrill and Storm Eagle have the best songs. I mean damn they hit.
This song literally went so hard
This is one of the greatest soundtracks in a game ever
47:29 It's been almost *30 years* and I realized something: Dr. Light placed that green robot there to test X for the capsule power-up. That's why the robot has the classical "MegaMan" design to it. 😅
Holy shit, I think you're right. It always stood out to me as an odd design, but I never put 2 and 2 together:) Thanks for sharing your epiphany :D
Edward Gaines It looks like Auto
@@smuggums3879 It does. I also thought it always looked like those flying baddies in _MegaMan 1._ The ones that swoop in on you.
@@NintendoComplete which mega man game do you enjoy best?
@@yourwatchingdylan2131 Mega Man 3 👍
Storm Eagle's stage theme is still the most badass guitar I've heard on the SNES, hands down.
i used to use nero cd burning and make cds with just megaman music, just because storm eagels music was so badass
I think you mean Spark Mandrill
Storm Eagle's music was awesome. So was Flame Mammoth's.
"Hey, this is really good."
- X, from TerminalMontage's parody
This is hands down my favorite music to listen while running in the treadmill !
the sound effects & music
TOTAL NOSTALGIAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
28 years later. This great classic still holds strong. Glad to say I still have my X copies (Physical). 😁✊
Wow it’s that’s old
My favorite SNES game of all time
My favorite game in the Mega Man series so far from what I've played! I found the last boss to be a bit frustrating, but I beat it nonetheless. A true classic that is a must play for anyone of any age!
Pretty much my all time favorite Mega Man title in the whole franchise
If I had to single out the best Mega Man game ever made, this is it. It has the right amount of challenge to it, incredible graphics that just refuse to age, the gameplay and controls are perfectly fluent, and the music is just phenomenal.
1:05:37. It melts my heart to see you Hadouken Vile, the one enemy in the game I'm so glad to see meet his end. The fact that you have to deliberately lose to him twice to progress in the game his his demise all that much sweeter. Hey Vile, HADOOOOUKEN!
25:45 Yo... that song is REALLY GOOGD!
Totally agreed that X1 is the best of the X series. Such a tremendous game. Hell, I could buy it being the 3rd or 4th best game across the entire series.
professors84 X1 is awesome
I beat this game in 1998 and I steel haven't missed a step playing it today what a great classic love it aways
This game is a goog and honest sample of how satisfying it was playing on my SNES in the 90's.
I thought I had mastered this game in the pre-internet walkthrough 90s; just now knowing the Hadouken was a thing lol
I just realized that the model number shown in the intro says CPS, as in Capcom's arcade hardware, CPS1 and CPS2.
Let's admit that title screen theme is just the MOST BADASS THING WE ALL EVER HEARD!
It's a shame that Roll,Rush,Tango and Beat didn't get into the "Megaman X" series. It would've been so cool to see how Rush would've looked if he had his own "X" form.
Yeah. And I wonder if Zero is inspired by Proto Man.
Best of all series. Unlocking the Hadoken was the best Easter egg for this game. Nostalgia.
Yes it was
@@mac1bc how can I use it 😅😅😅
I swear some of these songs could be on Iron Maiden albums
Especially Storm Eagle's!
I played that when I was about 14, nearly every day ! Thank you for dokumenting it!
After replaying this game a few times, I think Capcom was trying to give the allusion of Mega Man growing up. In the classic games he's like a kid. In the Mega Man X games he's more like an adult. He's stronger and can do more, just like adults in real life. He no longer lives in Dr. Light's lab. He doesn't even live with Dr. Cain (at least I don't think so). He has no dog, or sister, or any friends, except Zero who's also an adult. It's like that in real life. After you get out of high school people go their separate ways and move out of their parents house. That's what X is. He's grown up and moved out of his fathers care. Dr. Light does talk to him, but only through a capsule, like a father talking to their adult son on the telephone. Capcom knew that children grow up and wanted a more suitable story for the aging fan base. Classic Mega Man is like a PG movie. X is like a PG-13, or R movie. Very smart decision by Capcom.
At this point in the story, Dr Light is long dead, and Mega Man, Rush, Beat, Tango (from the GB Mega Man V), Eddie (Fliptop), Auto, and Roll are who knows where.
@@Bloodreign1 ALL of them were probably killed by Zero, when he was bad.
Favorite game ever... hands down
Love this game.. Memories from childhood
I think this was the first game that I ever beat lol
Great flash back game with hidden extras I didnt even know at that time.
One of the greatest Megaman games EVER made.
As a kid I thought it was super badass how Zero saves you at the beginning.
A good retro game from my adolescence, moreover I still play it sometimes
Mega Man X was announced in North America in a March 1993 Game Players magazine interview with Capcom's Senior Vice President Joseph Morici. The tentatively titled "Super Mega Man" was originally to have a "fairly large memory configuration and a battery backup". The autumn 1993 issue of Club Capcom announced Rockman X for a December 1993 release in Japan, divulged several plot and gameplay details, and showed Zero as a silhouetted "Blues-like character". Leading up to its release, the game was covered by the North American press surrounding the summer 1993 and winter 1994 Consumer Electronics Shows.
Yeah man this game rocked people's world when it came out. Because it was the first Mega Man entry on the SNES it set such a high standard. It's no wonder people thought MM7 was so bland in comparison.
Best video game ever created, by far. Long live to the 'blue bomber'.
This is a classic can’t wait to show my son this
Mega Man 2, anybody? Or am I the only one old enough to remember that?
Hold left on the P2 controller and you'll never fall to your death.👍
To me X and MM2 are the best in the series. MM3 is right there. But I think X and MM2 have(slightly) better boss fights and better music.
I played the living hell out of this game back when I got it in 1994 and I never knew that the cannon upgrade was in Flame Mammoth’s stage.
U know X is Mega man's future-self
No, X is an entirely different robot built by Light himself, while the original Mega Man was a joint session between Light and Wily. X also isn't naive like Mega Man was.
X is also not bound by the Three Laws of Robotics, unlike the original.
Bloodreign1 Yes exactly. X was built to surpass Classic Mega Man. He isn’t naive like Classic Mega Man, plus I mean look at what X can do that Classic Mega Man can’t do. I did find it weird at the beginning that it said he wasn’t supposed to harm humans, possessed human cognitive thought. Except Classic Mega Man already had that in him, it’s just he almost went over that “harm humans” part in Mega Man 7 when he defeated Wily and was considering killing him. I did look up on the Wiki that Zero was created by Wily, but is an ally to X. Zero does get patched up obvious seeing in the future Mega Man X games.
He's a different robot
The hair on the back of my neck stood up hearing this. Been a long time.
Personal favorite of mine
I just beat this game today (2-14-20). It's not Valentine's Day, I now proclaim it X-Day from here on out. Great game and soundtrack.
I love this game.... This reminds me playing the classic megaman.
here lies my childhood
RIP?
Ikr 😩🥺💖
This was my favorite mega man game, 2024 here
Mega Man X was very close to a perfect game. The intro level shows you everything new, the upgrades are useful but not game breaking, nor impossible to find without a guide... the only negative is that you can play the entire game without dashing, but you absolutely HAVE to get the dash boots upgrade (and the arm too, but it is a plot thing if you skip the capsule) no matter what. 9.5/10
I’ve always been bad at megaman games but I’d have to say X and mega man 2 are my all time favorites to play every now and then
1:00:28 Why's Light wearing a gi? 😁
1:09:06 *YOU CAN ACTUALLY HIT THAT SPIDER WITH THE FIREBALL?!*
Good Golly Miss Molly! 😳
Because Hadouken, of course! He was dressed like Ryu and Ken :)
I get so much nostalgia watching this! Thanks for the video.
Spark mandrill ost ❤ peace and love to all the kids that were us!
Cody Rhodes has said this is one of his top 5 video games of all time.
0:05 essa introdução é muito nostálgica
1:06:08 I'm curious if Zero was originally planned to be a "one off" character in the first game.
I remember playing this on the SNES for hours as a child, now I get to watch someone unfair the bosses that made my fingers sored from button mashing . #GoodTimes
I used to play Megaman X, Alladin, DK 1 to 3, Super Mario World, Killer Instinct in the 90's. Those were really good times.
Nostalgic sounds, max charge and when boss hp goes up
This game was crazy! Good memories 🔥
I will always love playing and beating this game. I loved how you would beat one boss and it would effect another bosses stage.
9:54 clear reference to Captain Commando. Nice.
Iam 40 years old and i remember this game when i was may be 8 or 9....❤
Same. The vibes are so good in this one!
This game is a masterpiece
0:09 👈🏾☺️ I’ve never forgotten this boot screen SFX in my entire life.
The fact that i had a crush on mega man when i was younger-💀
I got the SNES with Killer Instinct Bundle I want to say in 95-96 as a Birthday gift from my dad and I got two other games, Donkey Kong Country and Megaman X. man...I still played Megaman X until about 2014 when my SNES gave up on me however it was stored in a damp michigan basement for a few years before I pulled it back out, the internet had made me realize this was probably the only game I ever had a chance at Speedrunning (Edit: until all the pros made a video of it of course). I didnt even know about X2 or X3 until I was looking to replace the game but this will always be an absolute classic my mind.
Mega man x is literally a dark reboot done right
Still my favorite Mega Man game.
1:23:28 *_”OH NO YOU’RE A WALL NOW!”_*
THAT'S RIGHT X!
Firing the Boomerang Cutter 3 times against Flame Mammoth can cut down his trunk and against Launch Octopus can cut down his tentacles so he won't be able to use energy drain
I never could get very far in this game. It was tough as a little kid.
What a game...
this is my favorite game of all time it was also the first one i ever played so it holds a spot in my heart
i remember playing it on a cinema canvas before with high-end audio configuration. The surround sound was incredible. If you can, play this game with headphones.
I remember beating this Christmas break 1994.
This is the first ever video game I played good memories
I never knew that the hadouken could be unlocked. Learned something new that i didn’t know as a kid playing this
Better than the other 3 games on the NES (4,5,6)
Soundtrack has a X-Men COTA feel to it.
Best platformer ever. Period.
oh man this is nostalgic i remember trying to beat this game for a long time
this is my favorite megaman game among the series...
This my childhood ❤
Wow. Didn’t know you could get the hadoken by dying. I thought you had to exit and re-enter. Learned something new. Also RIP FPS on armadillos stage as always lol
You have to make the last health pick-up at the top of that cliff in the Armadillo stage *appear* 5 times. You don't have to grab it. You can do it the first 4 times early in the game, but you need all items and full health the 5th time, to get the Hadouken.
Want to *start* with the Hadouken?

I still play this game and now teach my son how to play
This and the 2nd one, are easily the best 2 ever made. Infact, id say that X and X2 are basically 1 game (being they take place 6 mo apart). Grew up with originl MM series and MMX also, and enjoyed the X-series.
Great gameplay! I enjoyed it alot. Better than today's pixel perfect runs.
If you wanna beat those end of Sigma Fortress section bosses quicker, you should use...
Bospider: Shotgun Ice.
Rangda Bangda: Chameleon Sting.
D-Rex: Boomerang Cutter.
Also, I didn't know this for quite a while. Many say in X2 if you didn't beat all three of the X-Hunters to get those parts of Zero, then you have to fight him before the clash with Sigma, many say his weakness is X-Buster. But the weapon that really works good on him is Speed Burner.
Yeah, I didn't know that till a while later.
And for Sigma, Electric Spark, and second form, Rolling Shield.
Megaman, Mario, Donkey Kong are the best game ever😂
I have played this game to❤It brings back so much memories😢
