I got this in 1988 and breezed through it except for Iceman which took me a couple of weeks of long afterschool play to master and then of course I had to figure out the Rockman cheat which I think was in Nintendo Power lol
Mega Man teaches me to use the right tool (or weapon) to get the job done. I never excelled at Mega Man, but I do enjoy seeing others tackle the difficulty. I had never seen the Dr. Wily stage in all its entirety until today. Knowing when to switch and use each change effectively really takes persistence, skill, and timing. Congrats to NintendoComplete for this playthrough of Mega Man.
Why is this so mesmerizing? my brother used to play this game while I would die on the second level of Mario. Reminded me of a part of my childhood that I had forgotten that I had lost.
Damn , it's that old I played this game when I was super young when my uncle gave me his old CD (it had some emulators ) which he got while cleaning up his home . I used to play the shit outta it and am currently 17 ( I grew up with technology that was 20 years older than me)
Mega man was the first game you finished? So either you happened to be good at mega man, you liked the game so much that you didn’t want to stop playing until it was finished, or you cheated(I don’t really think that it was the cheating one though).
Would've gotten this weren't not for the disgusting front cover. I only rented it after Nintendo Power gave credible hype for the soon to come Mega Man 2. Yeah. I missed out on a classic.
This takes me back to my elementary school days. Everyone I knew was into this game back then. I will always love this game. All these years later and it's still just as good as it was then.
Mega Man's winning combination of graphics, sound, and harshly difficult but fair gameplay make it a game that, while not as good as its direct sequels, deserves much recognition for its incredible achievements.
NintendoComplete I know, but she uses extra hardware so it could be considered cheating. Plus, I don't like her music as much as Tim Follin's. Tim really is a true god of music especially since he composed amazing music for more systems than she has.
Extremewrecker2000 The willer. What do you mean? Basic mmu aside (iirc it used an unrom board?), this was all stock NES hardware. There wasn't anything expanding the base system's sound capabilities here.
My big bro absolutely loved this game. He would play this for hours, while I help him finish it. I miss my big bro. We all miss those years when we were just little, carefree children 😭😭
My favorite thing about mega man games is the music. I am in awe how effortlessly this person can play and enjoy themselves listen to capcom’s masterpieces.
Wow the memories...... I'm 40 now would love go back in time in my old house playing this in the basement on the old school TV where I spent hours of my time.
The original classic of the series. I was in elementary in 1988. My best friend talked about this game non stop. We both spoke of video games and going through Nintendo power in after school, drawing and joking around and talking about mega man. That I ended up getting mega man 2 by my dad one afternoon. Took that shit to school to show it off even 😂. The game was my favorite game from NES. From there then on I got every mega man game that came out in its release date order either for birthday, Christmas or obsessing and driving my dad crazy to get it for me and would surprise me with it randomly when I arrived home with the game in my room form Sears or toys r us. Good times. Still recall getting the games as if it was last year, Sears upstairs had the Nintendo section which was like a gold mine whenever you saw that nintendo logo hanging over head in the distance through all the clothes rack. The games were all displayed in the locked glass cases surrounding the clerk and all around it was always packed with kids and their dads looking through the glass for their favorite or next title and waiting their turn for the clerk to come around to tend to you. It was like a bar and getting the bartenders attention You were lucky enough if you got the last game that was seen in display case. Sometimes a family would get it right before you. Nowadays you go to target or Walmart or whatever and the video game section is missing that magic from yesteryear. And at toys r us, was always awesome to get your copy of a NES game. It was exciting as shit. Going through the video game isle with hundreds of NES games box photos on the walk and under each box set was a plastic transparent index holder with the some ticket with game number and you would grab one and take it to the back where there was a window and a worker would take your ticket snd bring out the game and you pay up front. If there was no tickets left in the plastic index card holder, it meant the game was sold out. It crushed every boy im sure when they came to grab a ticket only to learn the game is not available and you keep coming back to store to see when the the tickets are stocked full under your games photo. Good times simple times that today’s generation won’t see or appreciate. Those were the days we really appreciated and worked for what we want and took care of it snd took nothing for granted! Mega man 1 was actually my last MM game I got after MM6. Only because I played it a ton of times at that friends house while I had the rest of the saga at home and didn’t feel the need to buy it until you never saw it available again during the 90’s as games were constantly turned over and taken out of stores…but when I got older and internet was born, ebay was discovered and I purchased mm1 finally for collector reason. Hated that I had that missing title.
The one game I was lucky to get the last of at Toys R Us was the PC Castlevania and Contra collection, they had the very last one I'd ever see sell in my town. Otherwise I always got lucky the times I got games at Toys R Us, they never were out of stock for the games I was after. That is until a certain Game Boy game I wanted turned out to be a bitch to find. Toys R Us nor anyone else had the damned thing, that is until a last resort call to Dillard's Department store turned up the absolute LAST copy I'd ever see for sale back then. The lady who got the game out of the display glass case for me even told me that I got lucky, as soon Dillard's would stop handling video games. I still have that copy in box complete to this day, beaten many, many times over the years. That game, Link's Awakening for Game Boy.
The very first game I ever rented. Never could get past that damned Devil, but I've since beaten it multiple times. Mega Man blinking was utterly mind blowing back in the day, too.
People act like let’s plays are new. They aren’t. Virtual lets plays sure. But let me tell you something. When we were kids we only argued about whose turn it was because we all sucked equally. But if some kid could play mega man like this, we’d all be huddled around watching in awe.
This happens with all weapons and bosses too, as long as the shot goes through the enemy like Ice Slasher, Rolling Cutter, Fire Storm, and Thunder Beam
I love this game and the Mega Man series in general. For some reason it tends to be overlooked a lot . My all time favorite in the series is Mega Man 2. This series had the best music of any games in the 8 bit era too.
I just bought this game on Nintendo eShop. I'd never played it before. But I fell in love with the story and the gameplay. I've never appreciated this saga before.

I like this. Not a too-cool-for-school no damage playthrough (usually tool assisted), but an honest playthrough with little errors we all made back in the day. I never beat this one. I beat 2, 3, 4, and X, but never 1.
That glitch was cool. I kind of wish you would have tried fighting it on the wrong screen though, since it appeared to be showing up. Would have been neat to see what happened.
@@sammyyo461 yeah the first game was so hard for me (probably because I did the bosses out of order) but I just used the pause glitch to one shot everyone. :P

It was extremely hard until you got the hang of it. Back in the day, we were use to games being hard. A lot of NES games needed skill and memorization to get through to the end. Some people will never know.....
It was (is for most) crazy hard. I beat Mega Man 2 several times in the early 90s before I was able to beat the first installment lol Not having E-tanks yet is a pain. Timing jumps was always so hard for me so the Yellow Devil and the Dragon in Mega Man 2 saw me die hundreds of times probably lol
34:40 You have discovered a possible brand-new speedrunning glitch! I was able to replicate this, and the first time I did it, CWU-01P only had 4 bars of health and I quickly finished the boss due to only one form being able to appear. Every other time, however, my results were exactly the same, wth the boss having full health. I'm thinking a speedrunner should investigate this, and hopefully we can causethe boss to consistently start with only 4 bars of health. My theory is that certain frames in the game's engine cause the boss's energy to not completely fill up. I can post part of this video on Twitter. I was able to record 30 seconds from the Switch, but the starting point is right after Mega Man gets hit, and during the point he zips backwards. Let me know!
I'm 38 as well & absolutely love the Mega Man series, used to hum the soundtracks at the bus stop as a kid, but I don't think I have to stomach to ever play the original ever again lol. Hated it, but loved every single one after it.
I bought Megaman Legacy Collection for the Switch and I'm now trying to put most (if not all) of the Megaman games on my channel. I have MM2 for now, hopefully I'll do the rest soon.
I oddly found this game to be quite easy. The bosses aside from the Yellow Devil and the Clone boss I found to be pretty easy. Granted, I used the pause cheat for the Devil, so I might come back to this one someday to beat it legitimately. Great game and great playthrough NintendoComplete!
"When I was growing up and going to school, all I really wanted to do was be an artist. I actually got my first job at Capcom through my artistic skill and it wasn't until Mega Man was done that I really became interested in game development. When I joined the Mega Man team his outline existed, his basic pixel structure was done - kind of the skeleton, if you will - but things like his final look, as well as his jumping animation and so on, still had to be completed. He existed as a single sprite; no animations and no poses existed - they hadn't been designed when I joined the team. The first Mega Man had a team of six people, and we did it in about four months. Which means that, relatively speaking, there wasn't really that much of an investment from the company. If it had not come out, if it had been cancelled, it wouldn't have been the end of the world. Maybe for the first two-thirds of my career, I was operating under that sort of style. Obviously there was pressure, but it was a relatively free environment, because games didn't take long to develop." -- Keiji Inafune (game designer and graphic artist, Mega Man/Rockman - NES)
You see that little blue thing in Elec Man's stage? You gotta get break those blocks using either Elec Man's Thunder Beam or Guts Man's Super Arm and that's how you can grab the Magnet Beam
I played this game when I was in public school and my Aunt bought this when my parents scolded me on it. THANK HER for that. She had the money to afford it and I still have the fucking cart until this day. I was so happy to play it until my dad bought me Mega Man 2 later on after I made it to the fourth grade
Hands down mah favorite entry in the classic series!! I love the game's soundtrack, bosses, difficulty, and High Score counter!! It's so much fun to try and get or beat yer highest score before you get a Game Over!! > w
Surprisingly the last of the classic series I added to my collection, my friend gave me their cart of the game. That friend helped me acquire several games in the classic series for NES and the last 2 Gameboy titles, IV and V.
23:32 when I first reached this level I was playing at 3 am and the shit came blaring on and I jumped. I had to turn the the television before my parents woke up hehe.
I really hope it's good, but I'm not holding my breath. Capcom isn't as consistent with their quality as they used to be, so who knows what we'll end up with.
@RustyLeguito 100% ? Like all chaos emeralds? I ask because this guy I watch on TH-cam says he beat MegaMan at like 5 (not sure if he's adding some hyperbole or not) but I find it somewhat difficult to believe because my brother and I couldn't beat any of the sonic games (super Mario world either 😔) but I never played any of the og megaMan's games, so I was just wondering which is more difficult. Thanks 👍
@RustyLeguito that's crazy, you gotta have a lot of patience for 1. Getting all emeralds in the one & three is hard AF . I think I could do them now after seeing it on yt but back in the day, I didn't even understand how. I think two might be the easiest. I played it on the Xbox a few years ago and had all the emeralds except one and you could manually save at any point... I saved at a point where I couldn't get enough rings to get it 🙃🙃🙃
I got this yesterday with the Legacy Collection for my 2Ds. And I didn't get to know that this was HARD AS HECK (For me. I bet when you guys play it, you make it look like a joke.) I'd die to the Big Eyes in Cut Man's stage, Always get hit and fall into the first pit at the beginning of Wily stage 2, I'd get stuck in Ice Man's stage with the disappearing blocks, I'd get knocked off the ladders by the Watchers in Elec Man's stage, I died a lot and I repeat A LOT of times to Copy Robot, to the Robo Masters all in once, and the stupid tracks in Wily stage 4 and Guts Man's stage. It was absolutely annoying. But I finally did it. Thank mother of God.
I remember playing this freaking game for like 5 weeks before I realized you could use the other robots' weapons. My fault for beating Gutsman first I guess. :) EDIT: And then the Elecman board was boring and tedious and you were rewarded by gettin yer ass kicked :)

his basic pixel structure was done - kind of the
skeleton, if you will - but things like his final look,
as well as his jumping animation and so on, still had
to be completed. He existed as a single sprite; no
animations and no poses existed - they hadn't
been designed when I joined the team.
The first Mega Man had a team of six people, and we
did it in about four months. Which means that,
relatively speaking, there wasn't really that much of
an investment from the company. If it had not come
out, if it had been cancelled, it wouldn't have been
the end of the world. Maybe for the first two-thirds
of my career, I was operating under that sort of
style. Obviously there was pressure, but it was
a relatively free environment, because games
didn't take long to develop."

Looks like a really good game.
Oh it is
cant believe, im playing this when i was 5
What the hell happened to the last fight. There was supposed to be one more fight.
No
You're thinking of Megaman 2 onwards.
In this one it's just Wily's machine and that's it
Wow the big yellow Rock Monster boss seems so much more difficult and fast than in MM3...
His name is Yellow Devil. He's a hard nut to crack in this game series.
the trusty pause glitch can do the trick
thanks select button
Underappreciated game, stands shoulder to shoulder with the NES sequels in my opinion.
Back when Video Games loved to see you suffer 17:28 😂
I wanted this game so badly. I looked for it everywhere and never could find it.
I Love Mega Man ❤️
This is the most difficult game of the franchise and the only one I have never beaten.
How do you get the M one?
Getting Gutsman...
You see that little blue thing in Elec Man's stage? You gotta get break those blocks using either Elec Man's Thunder Beam or Guts Man's Super Arm and that's how you can grab the Magnet Beam
It's nice to see an honest playthrough not using the pausing hack to beat the yellow devil easier
I played this game when I was in public school and my Aunt bought this when my parents scolded me on it. THANK HER for that. She had the money to afford it and I still have the fucking cart until this day. I was so happy to play it until my dad bought me Mega Man 2 later on after I made it to the fourth grade
Happy birthday to the cutest robot ever ❤️ Happy birthday to Rockman ❤️
Ppp
MEGA MAN❤
The music of this game though... one of my favorites!!! Got a Playlist on pandora dedicated to it even.
I’m 45 and lived on this game
I play this with the “rewind” feature and my god I have to do it 800 times per level. How tf anyone beat this back then is beyond me
Happy birthday MegaMan!🎉🎂🎊
Good times ! We did the same thing.
Good day!
Have you ever played Siralim or Golden Sun?
Oh boy, we've been doing a lot of Mega Man these last few days! Must be MM11 hype- what're your thoughts on that?
I really hope it's good, but I'm not holding my breath. Capcom isn't as consistent with their quality as they used to be, so who knows what we'll end up with.
Who do y'all think had the more difficult trilogy. Meganan or sonic?
Mega Man, but for 100% runs maybe Sonic.
Thanks 👍
@@CagedPhoenixThe1st Yes, the emeralds, although I have beated Sonic 1, CD and 3&K with all of the collectables, except Sonic 2.
I saved at a point where I couldn't get enough rings to get it 🙃🙃🙃
Megaman, for sure.
Congrats man. Nice video
