  • Ep. 07 - In this video we wanted to find out what happens when you change the grip on your putter. In specific we wanted to know if the size of the grip had any affect on someones ability to square the face up. The results were pretty eye opening to say the least, and lets just say the grip I liked the most would not have been my first choice.

Really cool video. Never thought a grip would make that much of a difference.

I did an experiment the last 4-5 months with putter grips. What I found is that every flat front putter grip is drastically flawed. Both from an installation standpoint (getting exact alignment) and from the hand grip they force you into that never felt good to me. So I tried a superstroke oversize iron round grip. A day and night difference. With the traditional putter grips, and I mean flat faced in all shapes and sizes 11 different grips in all, I was averaging 36 putts per round and 5 3 putts. With the round putter grip, that went down to 31 putts and 3 3 putts.
I now have the Edel round standard putter grip. Weights 95 grams. All I can say is, for me, I'll never go back to a flat face.
My average now after 6 rounds is 28.6 putts with 1.4 3 putts. The low was 21 with 0 3 putts and the and the high was 30 with 2 3 putts. As I get more used to it it gets better. Of course a lot of averaging is dependent on approach shots. My length average length of 1st putt is 22 feet. But the best part is my scores have dropped from averaging 88 to 82.
Next up, dialing in my driver.

Thanks for sharing golfpride is coming out with the reverse taper putter grip and I’m betting it’s going to do very well.

I made a subtle change on my Del Mar to a Scotty pistol grip and it threw the putter balance out. I needed to change the head weights to get the putter back into balance.

Without question, the cool thing is there are weights of various sizes to fine tune the correct balance. Definitely one of the reasons why we love them so much.

This is not specificaly a putter queston but have you used any a.i. fitting tools like the Ping Co-pilot system or the Mizuno shaft optimizer?

I have, and although these devices can be a great starting point the one thing it can not determine is how someone is going to respond to the feeling itself. You see we are wired to adapt, it’s in our DNA, and whether it’s a conscious or subconscious thought, we will adjust to the clubs we are using. With that said, and although I think technology has come a long way it’s never going to be able to predict how we may respond to something once it’s placed in our hand.

Thanks for the video. Changing from the superstroke 2.0 pistol to the slightly more compact SS 2.0 tour and its much better in the hand, and can get putts rolling much closer to intended line.
Question however. I haven't paid much attention to swing weight with putters as I have with drivers and irons, but is putter swing weight a significant influence in fitting someone?
    Cheers.

It’s way more important than people think and where it helps more than not is with being able to mange distance control. Adding some lead tap to the putter head is a quick easy test to see if heavier is better and I would say 8 out of ten customers will lean towards heavier putters versus lighter ones.

Does your putting stroke (arc or straight back) dictate the type of putter hosel you should use?

    • @SwingFit
      @SwingFit  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yes that is one of the things we will assess, stay tuned for that video as it’s for sure on the list.

Nowhere offers the grip change swing weight compensation on ANY club. This is usually a hit/miss experiment for the hobbyist..........

Well hopefully through videos such as ours, we’ll be able to help the ClubFitting community understand the value of providing such a Service. It’s quick, easy, and it without question provides a ton of value. Thanks for sharing.

Great video but maybe your stroke needs a bit of work as it’s a bit short and stabby which isn’t great for putting. 🙈😜

Won’t argue with needing to knock the rust off.
