I did some quick research on the Castrol Oil website. It looks like most of the Focus models sold in the USA use 5W-20. The main exception for the dreaded EcoBoost engines starting in 2011, which use 5W-30.

I've also used clear flood mode so the engine doesn't start dry? Wasn't sure if you agree with that? Ready for the transformation. That will be awesome

@brianskinner4328 cool idea! The engine spins slower that way. It'll take longer to build oil pressure, but at least there's no combustion pressure! And yup I can't wait for the swap. I'm borrowing the car for a trip tomorrow, I'll be owning it next week 👍 thanks for checking out the video, happy Thanksgiving.

As the engine wears and age should we switch to 5w30?

    • @BigBensCarsAndCycles

Yeah, it couldn't hurt. I've ran 5w30 and its been perfectly fine on my other high mileage focus I had.

      Why would we do that?

@@jimmyboyles2868 Generally, it’s a good idea to stick to the manufacturer’s recommendation for oil over the lifetime of the engine. Going up or down a single step in oil viscosity is probably going to have a very minimal effect on a non-turbo, daily driver type of engine from this era. If you went to the extreme of something like 10W-40, you might have some problems.
I would exercise a greater level of caution on high performance sports car engines, or any engine with a turbo, due to higher compression ratios.

Big Ben, is it worth it to keep using the shield that goes underneath the engine or can I get rid of it?
Cause it's a pain in the butt to take it out every time I have to work on my vehicle..
Keep up the good work and thanks for the videos!

Your car is NOT safely supported. A jack stand is only reliable when the weight of the vehicle is already on the jack stand before you go under the vehicle. Jack stands are also supposed to be used in pairs. You should have two wheels fully in contact with the ground before you place yourself under a car. In the single jack stand configuration that you are using, the vehicle weight can teeter-totter between the front right and rear left wheels. Only the rear right wheel is firmly “planted” on the ground. This instability could cause the vehicle to move when you are applying force with a wrench. I don’t mean to be a nuisance. I feel very strongly about safety.
