  • ASUS ROG STRIX B650-A GAMING WIFI M.2 BAY BOARD PROBLEMS
Symptoms of Defective M.2 SSD Bay:
    1) System will post or initialize and go nowhere at the initial post screen and all you can do is do a force shutdown by holding down the power button for 5+ seconds.
    2) System will boot directly into the BIOS where it sometimes will display your SSD but not show a bootable device in the "Bootable Boot Device"
    3) System will sometimes post into Windows but the booting process from the Asus splash screen to the desktop will take a long time to get to.
    4) If you are restarting or rebooting from the Windows desktop, the Windows will either boot and go nowhere or boot back into the BIOS.

You do need a CPU to test as the main components to all desktops are the CPU, GPU, RAM, P/S & MOBO.

I had a defect m.2 slot on a msi b550 pro. I returned the motherboard. It had also other strange issues. It was running the processor in boost frequency mode all the time. It did not want to work with another ryzen 5600 which worked perfectly in my other system so i returned the board. Since the m.2 slot is controled by cpu there was probably something with this. Not a problem with cpu or m.2 but with the "cpu socket" ( i lack knowledge to describe this better) I would always return the board if the m.2 is not working since the first one is gen 5, and its also the only one. It is only fair that you get what you pay for.

I agree and that suggestion was given to the builder but she had declined to do that and because she had 2 other M.2 slots, she was fine with one bad one.

@@markod7662 I use to manage a computer store and to be honest it's the courier company that delivers our equipment is the one damaging the components! Big retail chains do not test every item that comes in and assume everything is all good until a buyer returns damaged items because of them mishandling the products we all buy.

@@peterwho9380 i agree. But quality control costs too. You can have 1 in 100 products tested. I do not know how this goes. I am suspicious that some retailers sell again the malfunctioning hardware in hope they will find someone who will not notice the error within 30 daS of purchase.

@@markod7662 100% agree and have run into products that I knew didn't look 100% brand new and have run into issues myself buying stuff from stores that are selling returned products and reselling them as they are new. The good thing is that if these items were somewhat damaged from a previous buyer you should notice some weird stuff happening during or Windows or driver installation as Window's itself is pretty good at detecing dud parts during the setup. Many MOBO's will also detect bad parts and give you an indicator on what failed during the post too...

My problem is similar to yours but it just boots into bios. Incidentally, I just put this system together so I'm starting from scratch. Anyhow, my next step was to connect a ssd drive to one of the sata port and still with the same problem. I can't imagine the M.2 AND the sata ports are defective, right? Any other clues? My guess I have an incorrect setting but can't figure out what it is.

Im about to try this but my issue is that whenever i start up the pc or restart, it will always boot it into BIOS first and then from there I have to go into boot options and choose my ssd drive with the windows boot. I want it to boot directly into windows cause its getting very annoying at this point. when i was building and setting up the system 2 days ago, i did notice that when i was put into bios for the first time, set up my settings, and hit f10 to save and restart it did not go into windows installer right away like it should but straight back into BIOS from where I had to boot the windows installer. Do you have any idea why this is happening? the boot priority is correct and it is recognizing the the ssd and everything is a new part.

    • @peterwho9380
      @peterwho9380  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hello, That usually happens it's because you need to change your SSD to the first boot device, make sure EUFI & secure boot is enabled and Legacy boot device is disable. That should fix your issue. I can't see your BIOS and sometimes there's a few other things that might need to be changed but try those 3 things first, cheers.

ROG boards usually tell you what kind of problems you have on why it's not posting, did you zoom in with your phone and look at the red light cause it might say DRAM, CPU, GPU or something wrong there, look carefully! Keep the system turned off and remember where the red light came from and zoom in on that area...

So my plan is to do a 7800x3d build
      Asus b650-a
      Rog strix 4080 super white
      Corsair vengence RGB ddr5 (white)
      And I’m coming from a intel 8900k i5
Evga 2070 super with 32gb of ddr4 ram.
I wanted to make the switch AMD this time around and now I’m seeing all the compatibility issues with the b650a/7800x3d/ white rgb ram of some sort at 6000mhz.
It’s frustrating like should I just do an intel build with my 4080 super?
