I've had the WLToys 12428 for a couple years now and it's never et me down. It was the first entry level RC I owned from the WL Toys brand. I've bashed it, Ive let people drive it and I've stuck a 3S in it. I did just fine all around (other than the bouncy shocks). Its got many good qualities, such as a full brushless system, deadlocks wheels with soft rubber, front locked diff, comes RTR with a battery and charger. And main thing is, it can run a 3S!!! YES!!

The damn thing is a gas. We have many many batteries that fit these things because me & everyone that works here loves toys... I just got one of these I ordered months ago out of the box tonight on the holiday. It jumped as high as our cargo vans ran rings & rings in the driveway kicking up dust and stones and just before the big kid meaning me ran it into my extra solid Ford Super Duty vans bumper it hit my Ford E350 bumper solid dead on. I shut the thing off picked it up sweating expecting it was toast at the worst broke at best... It didn't have friggin mark on it like the bumper here it hid had not a mark... After that I did put my controller on KID MODE. Ran much more to my favor or just another 5 or so minutes. It was not broken ailing or tweaked.. My business partner looks at me says where did ya get thing from... He put his ailing Traxxs junk back in his truck. This RC toy has a metal body and unlike the things built in the past and present like it this thing can take some punishment. It took one hell of a shock from my idiotship and it seems to be fine. I am actually right now in my office expecting to find loose screws or broken tie rod stuff or something broken on it as I have it in my lap... It ain't happening. So the thing impressed me alot not a little... I have the thing in my lap because in less than one hour I punished it for one ran it into a solid truck bumper inspecting it. Other than taking it to my wash sink out in the garage because the tires are full of junk it's fine. No loose screws nothing broken and most of all the solid whomp it did when it hit my work van did not even leave a mark... Perhaps this company is trying to make a name for itself because I have heard of the electronic stuff mostly sold in the UK not the USA. This is something I feel was well worth my hard earned cash. RC TOY CONTACTS SOLID FORD VAN BUMPER JUDGED AT BEST AROUND 40MPH THEN BOUNCES OFF WITHOUT DAMAGE... KIND OF UNHEARD OF FOR CHEAP EXPENSIVE CHICOM RC TOYS..

Yep this is a great rock racer bro, I have the red FY03H as well, I made a speed run test on 3s on the stock ESC late last year after my review and got 53kph or 33mph top speed..plus its a wheelie champ on 3s on the grass .fun truck..good look at it bro..been subbed to you a while 🍻👍 be safe out there thumbs up bro!
I also have the original FY03-A desert eagle which has the brushed 390 motor and funnily enough that got a top speed of 50kph flat on 3s on stock electronics out the box 😆 from a 390 brushed
hey my dude! Really appreciate your view and comment along with great feedback. I always like to hear other owner's experiences, I thank you. Thats a great top speed you got, I cold have gotten 33 too, but the 3S lipo I was using was close to being trash, once cell doesn't balance well anymore.
surprisingly the WL Toys 12428 with the 540 motor is actually faster than this with the same 3S, ahaha. But it kills the lipo quite quick.
@@hybrid32494 yes you're right about the 12428 series... Having the larger 540 brushed it does kill the charge on Lipos quicker... I completely rebuilt my 12428-C from a roller parts rc to all new fresh parts last year incl metal diff gears all round last year, and I haven't had a chance to speed test it on 3s as yet! I have the 12428 I used it so much I wore out the motor I didn’t burn it out I wore it out I can’t believe the ESC can handle 3S the ESC says waterproof but when it gets water in it the lights flicker and it won’t respond so I soaked it in shoe sealer not caring if I ruined it and it works perfectly now love this little car love that it has lights installed already
My only complaint is the rear shocks are bouncy I paid 60 for the car and bought $60 hobby grade shocks lol it’s faster on a lipo too
hey Steve Leahy! Good morning brother! I always love your comments, they are well informed. So you know just how good the WL Toys 12428 is for the money, and it's got real deadlock wheels, so no messing around with glue. Yes the shocks are the only let-down, but no big deal considering the price, and it' still mostly drivable. For low speed crawling you don't even need oil-filled shocks anyway, thats only for higher speed stability. The lights are awesome, I agree. Unfortunately my 12428 has a faulty radio switch which I had to soldering now it's permanently "on".

hey dude, that just some basic Fluoreon lipo from eBay. I've only got about 5 cycles through it and one of the cells already does not balance well, pretty much trash already. For a low power draw operation such as this RC, it's fine.
Just got my in today, great RC whens its working , stock li-on was cutting off had to wait a few secs, on 2S is works perfect, except its a 5200mah so its huge on it , on 3S I cant hold trigger more than a sec , it shuts down , servo works . I get 4 red/beeps when i turn it on . Wonder if they recently change the esc?
hey dude! What discharge rating is your 3S? I was running a very low discharge rated pack, only 30C. You might have a much higher one, can you try a lower rated 3S in this?

I picked up 2 of these for the family. After a hand full of runs it wont turn. Servos seem weak or something is slipping. Are the servos garbage? Or is it more likely I need to pull it apart and adjust something? I feel like its unlikely that I received 2 defective units and more likely a problem with the way it was put together. Thanks for any insight! Oh and I did make adjustments on the controller.

hey! thanks for watching. I checked the gearing after making this video, and it's already running the tallest gears that are included. You could easily put in a higher KV motor though. The inn runner style motor is this thing is common and upgradeable. IT's a future project, along with oil filled shocks. Thanks!

hey buddy! they are both charges using the same charger. In the case of this RC it comes with a charger that charges any 2S pack through the balance port. In the future you could purchase any hobby grade charger and charge any style of batteries you want.

i just purchased a brand new revo 3.3 online from a distributor. mesh was off but what was worse was that there was a terrible grinding sound as i would go in reverse and back to forward. after watching videos about the removal of the opti drive i opend my trans case and the output gear was ground with debris in the casing. does my warranty cover the repair or at least the cost of parts? and how can this be prevented in the future without removing the opt drive?

hey buddy! Thanks for watching. These models come with a 2-in-1 ESC and Receiver system, you don't need to program anything on it. It performs fine as is. What features are you looking to change?

@@YanisFafis ok, I understand now. Let me ask you this, have you ever had a true hobby grade RC, not including this one?? For these 2-in-1 ESC/RX systems you cannot program the ESC generally. Its just the standard profile. You would need to convert to a completely diff esc/radio/motor/servo system for that.

What would also be exciting is to see how fast it would go with a 3 S li ion battery, for example. Which I think is a lot faster than with a 2S lipo. I prefer to use Li-ion batteries rather than lipos like most people. Because lipos are simply too unsafe for me 😬and are not as user-friendly and robust as a li-ion battery. what are you thinking about that ? Unfortunately, here in Germany I'm having some difficulty finding a 3S Li-ion battery on the internet. Maybe you can recommend something to me.

yep bro! The 3S is the way to go for sure. If it did not run a 3S I would not have even tested it. But for kids or crawling you really only need 2S power. The NitroGang only goes 3S or nothing!! hahaa.

What voltage 3S did you use?
hey buddy!! all 3S lipos are rated at 11.1V. They will charge to 12.6 volts and then are safe to run until you hit about 3.4V per cell. Personally I would nt discharge a lipo beyond 11.1V.

I'm having trouble finding good oil filled shocks for it though. Seems like the 1/12 after markets have plastic caps or something that make them flimsy.

hey buddy! This will not hit 40 with a 3S. Almost no RC of this scale with hit 40 with the stock drivetrain, I'd suggest you look for a buggy based RC if that's what you want. This will hit 30ish with a 3S though, and trust me, it's more than adequate.

12428 is snotty as heck on 3s. Wheelies at half throttle going downhill...that said, doing so WILL end up breaking it. Drivetrain is not set up for so much torque. I can't believe you haven't broke anything. Then again though, I'm driving it at like 10°f.....it's tears up the hardened snowbanks no prob. It's a blast. I'd get again, just not be as hard on it. I'm thinking that fyoue or w/e has better quality than 12428. Or different drivetrain.
hey bro! Guess what, I know exactly what you're talking about, I also have the original 12428 and have tested it on 3S and did many speed runs with it too (there are vids on this channel). I will tell you that they are exactly the same speed on 3S, even though this thing runs brushless. This one seems better quality, and is a little more planted, plus it's got a locked rear diff, highly important.

I will tell you that I also own the WL TOYS 12428, which is the same as this, but brushed, so basically the one you're referring to, more or less. I have run a 3S in that one, and it was fine. There are a couple videos of those runs on this channel btw. Keep in mind it's best to not really bash too hard with the 3S, but the system will take it.
LOL definately not friction shocks LOL those are just a plain old chinisium "oil" shocks that are sold without the oil. you can add oil to make them 100x better but it will leak out since there are no o ring seals like the proper ones have.. What an idiotic thing to "lock" the front axle since it will destroy your handling. and judging from the video its not really locked but just a stiff differential cause it has that much play i cant imagine how it would be locked :D i would rather properly lock the back axle and use really stiff oil in the front and it will climb a tree but will still be able to turn on flat ground too.
