    Thanks for sharing. It's good to know what to expect when doing an upgrade and you pointed out some very important stuff. As for your drive shaft issue you could re-tap the threads with a tap set. As long as you know the thread size it's not that much for a metric tap set. Great video ...

  • @vmaxmercer
    @vmaxmercer 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    A tap can be used to clean out the threads on the rear drive shaft grub screw.

      I ended up breaking off the tap trying to clean the threads.. Don't use super cheap taps...

    In your opinion, how necessary is it to do the upgrades? Is it more for the cool factor, or to address inherent weaknesses in the buggy? I have the rig on order and have noted that every one of the upgrades is currently out of stock. This is a second hobby for me, and I'd rather not have to dump a ton of money into the rig if it works reasonably well as is.

    • @VoidXRC
      @VoidXRC  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've had my first feiyue for about a year and a half, the only parts on it that are not stock are the electronics and the rear drive shaft. In that time the only thing I have broken is the rear axle case and rear axle, and that was because the vehicle rolled down a pretty steep hill and smashed into a tree. I'd say it's pretty durable overall, though I'm sure a higher speed crash into a tree or other hard object would smash it up a bit. I've done a little bit of jumping with it too, although nothing huge. It has handled it quite well.
      You can actually see the video of when it rolled down a hill and broke the rear axle here: th-cam.com/video/VZajHdPfa5c/w-d-xo.html

      Void X RC I did see the video where it went over the side - would've been hard on anything. Thanks for your reply and for the videos. They've helped me make an informed decision. I'll be changing the esc, receiver, and servo as I have spares on hand, but that's mainly so I can use my preferred DX4 radio. The rest will remain stock unless something gets broken.

    • @VoidXRC
      @VoidXRC  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't remember what oil it was now, though it was on the lighter side, I found them to be an improvement over the stock ones

    • @CallMeAdam2023
      @CallMeAdam2023 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VoidXRC The only improvement I can see on mine is there is no dirt getting in the springs to make it hard to adjust. I have tried 30w up to 70w and I didnt even feel a difference. When you put oil in them do you fill them almost up with the shaft extended and then reassemble?

  • @A_Man_In_His_Van

    I gotta be honest, this truck is so light, other than driveshafts most upgrades arent needed. I beat the bag out of my virhuck v01 and the only wear is the tires and driveshaft trunion holes. Otherwise no breakage running 2s lipo and multiple 4 hour bash sessions.

    • @VoidXRC
      @VoidXRC  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome that you haven't broken anything. I tend to be over cautious building up stuff something. But I also ended up with wheels that are quite a bit heaver than the stock ones so I like the beefier driveshafts.

    • @VoidXRC
      @VoidXRC  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's been awhile so I can't quite remember but it was in the range of 25-50 weight. It performs pretty well, a little bit bouncy still. I'd guess that means the weight is probably on the lower end.

    what happen if you change or upgrade your rc innto a brushless motor what do you need to change?

    • @VoidXRC
      @VoidXRC  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      For going to brushless you need to replace the electronics(servo, esc/receiver) and the motor. Here's one of my videos on doing the conversion: th-cam.com/video/wbfb6Tmdgyo/w-d-xo.html

  • @secondsfromdisaster5360
    @secondsfromdisaster5360 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know this video is 4 years old but this could help people buying upgrades now. If you have any trouble with screws not going in, just get yourself the proper tap & run it through. Im a tool maker so i can make these parts & they drill & tap the screw hole before they bore the bigger hole so it will leave a bur on the threads. A good tool maker would run a tap back through so make sure theres nothing blocking it up. Unfortunately these are cnc parts & are run by glorified button pushers who either dont know any better or just don't care.

    Hey, I've seen a few of your videos and love your content. But I have got a question. I have a wltoys a959 with the 390 size motor that has dif problems. I was thinking on buying a fy03 kit and transferring the electronics from the a959 to the fy03. Do you think it would work? Even with some customization?

    • @VoidXRC
      @VoidXRC  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! The esc/receiver combit will fit ok, however I don't know the amp rating for it and I think it might struggle with the heavier vehicle. I wouldn't be too surprised if the esc ended up frying after some use. Also I think the servo for the a959 is a bit smaller than the one for the fy03 so that would need to be modded a bit.

      Throttle rc lol, mine fell apart too. it was too late when I realized why. my rear still togeter. I super glued the keeper after tightening. the fronts came apart before the battery drained. smh, one came loose at the joint and the other the pin came out of the slide. took about a month to get and became useless in less then 10mins.

    • @VoidXRC
      @VoidXRC  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Damn that is a pain in the ass. I can see how that would happen. The set screws need to be thread locked so they don't back out.

      It would of been so much better if the set screws came thread locked from the factory.

      That's right, I found this morning that there is another set screw inside the slide to hold that pin as well. No way to tighten it assembled from what I can tell. • @VoidXRC

      Ahh ok I usually refer to that part as the steering knuckle. Ok so when you loosen it just a tad does the wheel wobble? does the hex on the drive shaft coming through the knuckle have much play in them?

    • @DanSavine
      @DanSavine 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Void X RC that's the one lol couldn't think and Yer it wobbles and there is a gap between the nut and the wheel if I close the gap it's to tight on the bearing think if I get some locking hex nuts with a screw I might be ok

    • @VoidXRC
      @VoidXRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      @coleadkison6875 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @VoidXRC

      The only difference between the kit one and the RTR version is the kit doesn't have the electronics/motor. The kit version has drive shafts and the shocks and all those kinds of parts. It just doesn't have the upgraded aluminium parts. I should of made that clearer in the video. You can also ask as many questions as you need/want to, no worries about that :)

    Hi. Thank you for your Feiyue videos. I've just ordered the car kit and brushless parts. Do you know if since making your upgrades video all of the problems with the upgrade parts have been resolved and that the upgrades on banggood fit as they should?

    • @VoidXRC
      @VoidXRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know if they have done any updates to the parts that I tried. Although I have seen other people who did not have the same problems that I did. If you have just ordered the kit and brushless parts you shouldn't have any major problems. They also have how fully hardened metal pinion and spur gears too which can be a bit help with a brushless system. I haven't gotten those parts yet though.

    You Should buy a thread tap of the proper size to clear out that burr in the drive shaft. You should heat the Knuckle and refrigerate the Bearing. Wear Saftey equipment, heavey leather gloves, Preferably welders gloves when handling the heated aluminum knuckle, otherwise you will burn youself badly. Heating the aluminum knuckle will expand it, and refrigerating the bearing will contract making it slightly smaller, The bearing should drop in easily, put the bearing in the freezer for at least 4 hours, in do not heat the knuckle above 210 degrees farenhiet, put it in a toaster oven for a 4 minutes Remove any nonmetal bearing seals, line the pan with tinfoil. Regrease you bearing and replace your seals after they cool down. This meathod has been used to install roller bearing in cars for 75+ years Do your reseach! Do all of this at your own risk I am not responsible if you harm yourself or you RC parts, I personally would have contacted the seller and exchanged the parts. Best of luck in the future!

    driveshaft thread pitch is wrong match to that screw your using. it's not a bur on the metal need different screw. shit looks like the used wrong thread tap at that end of the driveshaft, better break out the tap set

    • @VoidXRC
      @VoidXRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I still think it was a burr, as most of the thread is smooth and fit the screw properly and the thread on the other end of the drive shaft is fine. However none of that matters now as I have already broken off a tap in the hole. I sorta knew it was a bad idea to use cheapo taps in hardened steel.

    • @detroitrcwurks998
      @detroitrcwurks998 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Void X RC can't be for 100% certain in your situation but working as a mechanic my whole life I've seen it time and time again where a bolt will thread in perfect around 30% of the way than lock up which results from using bolt with wrong thread pitch, or trying to use sae bolt in a metric application. you can still save that project, use titanium drill bit 2 sizes smaller than the broken thread tap especially since the tap is cheap material. drill out broken tap using oil or pb blaster. take a pick and scrape out the remainder out than use next up size good tap to retap new threads, using some kind of oil to lubricate the process going slowly back and forth working out shavings, sure you know that part. or grab garbage can pitch in driveshaft buy new. though you should have no problem using next size up bolt once retapped.

    • @VoidXRC
      @VoidXRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the good info. I'll most likely end up getting a new part as I can't find the broken one. I had thought about trying to drill it out when I first broke the tap but I don't have any good drill bits that small either. The broken tap was for m2 with a 0.4 pitch.

      Void X RC no prob! just trying to help as its always good to try to save a part even to have ready as a spare, if your like me you won't like rusty parts. you can always slow the rust process down but never truly stop it. might not break the metal but nice to swap out after years of abuse just to keep up the new look.
