His older videos were honest. I only watch his videos of older cars because these new videos are just a paid promotion that he doesn’t reveal to viewers/TH-cam. Can’t stand his videos anymore but love reading the comments that trash him now
Whatever you say doug in disguise. You made a burner account so you could fix your "reasonably priced" remark and instead promote cars and bids. I see you, Doug.
I actually had a reservation for a Blazer but decided to cancel it. 1. Like Doug mentioned, supercruise isn't available yet. 2. They increased the price quite a bit from where it was initially announced at 3. With GM switching to the Tesla port I'd rather just wait to get that updated version. I know there are adapters, but I'm not in a hurry to buy a car
Absolutely delusional. This is better than the Ford Mach-E, Tesla Model Y, and the Acura ZDX which it shares its platform. You literally can’t explain how this is phoned-in. Removing apple CarPlay and investing in your own infotainment experience is phoning it in? How do you ppl and your asinine comments even get upvotes? 😂
The Mach-E is even more phoned in. They rushed it and didn't know what they were building. That said, both are hopelessly behind Tesla and you'd be nuts to buy one. They'll be interesting historical footnotes however.
Nice overview of everything the car does have but no mention of some of the important bits it is missing with the exception of super cruise. There is no apple CarPlay or Android Auto which is deal breaker for many people, the price is actually substantially higher than the competitors mentioned, no glass roof (which some people don’t mind but others do) and a much higher curb weight comparing to competitors which might actually explain the 6 lug nut wheels. Besides the looks this car has no other benefit over the competition. Not to mention the already reported huge software issues
I guess it all depends where he gets his cars from. If he has certain dealers he works with, then I doubt he will point out the big negatives. By doing it this way, he gets all the new cars for views and the dealers gets an unofficial advertisement. Just like his Cars and Bids reviews. He will point out the very minor negative things. But at the end of the day, he still needs to sell the car.
I've watched Doug's videos since the very early days and he was always fairly objective and would always at least mention drawbacks like that, this is why I was expecting he would at least mention those issues. Doug never covers very technical aspects of the cars (especially EV's) but he always had a nice overview and the very quirky bits done very well and this one just left me underwhelmed @@SkippyPB.
@@Cincy32 From what I've heard, yes. Apple Carplay/Android Auto is more flexible than whatever GM could come up with and is not subject to subscription fees.
In GM's defence, they have said a cheaper version is coming. Which means the base MSRP will be less than $56k when that entry level trim comes. I'd expect that base model to start in the high 40's though.
60k is a reasonable sticker price? Doug spending 60k for a brand new vehicle is like his core group of subscribers spending 5k on a brand new vehicle. You’re losing touch with reality, doug.
I’m sure this was filmed before the Stop Sale went into effect but it does feel like something worth mentioning at this point, bc two reviewers had major probs with this car
I'm using my front trunk for charging cables. where its super nice not having to dig below whatever you're carrying in you trunk when you need to charge
While I love these reviews, I start wondering what kind of things you can do through the app. As an EV driver myself, the app is a significant part of the experience!
I don't get that alleged (as I don't believe it) bit about people not using front storage. Especially when that OEM then has a tow hook, charging cables, maybe a road side safety kit, etc, all sitting in the trunk area. Stuff that is PERFECT for putting in front storage. OEMs like to talk about how much useful storage they have in their car. Only to completely ignore obvious additional storage.
Agreed. Also, if the vehicle can be packaged such that it has front storage, what is the reason to deliberately omit that space from being useable? But yeah, all of the accessories that come with the vehicle could and SHOULD go up front so that the rear is simpler and more useable.
A good example of why they don't always have a frunk is the VW id4. They chose to give it a short front end and make the car overall smaller so don't have room after shoving all the electronics and heater and blah blah blah under there. The Ford mach e on the other hand has a huge honker of a nose so plenty of room for a frunk but then you have a longer car to go with it. Personally I'm in the don't care faction. I'd rather have that extra deep storage well in the back that Tesla also does a good job with to throw all that extra crap in rather than a frunk.
@@dwcanker Yeah, but this Blazer isn't designed with a small front end. I'm not an idiot asking why there is no frunk on a Chevy Astro-shaped vehicle. I'm asking why not have storage available in a vehicle that looks the way the Blazer EV looks.
@@dwcanker The problem is when you need to use that extra stuff and you have your trunk full. You pretty much need to take most if not all things and then get what you need, like the charging cable. This is eliminated with a front trunk. Also, in many EVs there most likely is enough room for a frunk (as in the front end of the car is the crumple zone anyway, so it can't be eliminated), but packaging would be a bit harder so they just thow in a lame excuse to not be bothered, a good example being the Kona EV, you just have a piece of plastic that mimics an engine on the inverter instead of a 5-10L box that you can put some stuff in (and yes, there is enough space there for it, many people modded one in).
@@dwcanker Certainly true that such storage feasibility varies. Most EVs out there definitely have room w/ just a bit of engineering needed. But also true that you don't want to create an engineering nightmare the the space gain isn't worth it.
Why did Doug not mention this vehicle does not support Apple Carplay or Android Auto? It's not just an option that this press vehicle happens not to have, it's literally not offered on this car at all no matter which trim level you get. For the majority of buyers this is a huge issue and certainly Doug is aware of the fact that it is, so I believe he was paid by GM to not mention this.
The government should have let GM go bankrupt back in ‘08. This company has been so poorly mismanaged for decades, and the Blazer is yet another sad low point in a series of missed opportunities.
@@thanosianthemadtitanic I'd say GM trucks are more important than their sports cars which they essentially only have one of now (Vette), everything else they produce is generally way behind the competition and has been that way historically - I don't think Ford could ever go under just due to the Mustang and F-series pickup by themselves which practically are their own brand.
@@thanosianthemadtitanic American carmakers get trucks and muscle cars right. That's about it. Trucks pay the bills so everything else is just to check a box in the market. 90% of people use thier vehicles to go back and forth to work and the grocery store. How much power does an ev really need to do that. If they would focus on range and not power I believe it will be much more affordable and accessible to the average person. The average person never even drives over 75 mph. Smaller cars with much more range is the way to go.
EVs and gas cars don't work the same way. With a gas car 200 vs 400 hp is going to be a big hit to your fuel mileage in the same car. The way electric motors work it really doesn't matter though. A 400hp electric motor cruising down the highway at 75mph is for all intents and purposes just as efficient as a 200hp electric motor doing the same thing, just a tiny bit more weight. Because of that we get MORE POWER because a 400hp EVs sells better than a 200hp one.
range isnt that big deal for me but the charging time like from 10->80% in 30mins thats still way to long, compared to a gas car especialy for longer trips
@@BlackPointt But more range = less charging stops on longer trips. You can't really isolate one from the other in this context. Also, a 30m break after driving for 250-300 miles (~3-5 hours) is more than recommended. Heck, I can even make the argument that an EV encourages safer and healthier driving because it can't go for hours on end (as a 5m gas refill is not really a break from driving, more like a pause).
My wife and I looked at this and then the Equinox EV. We ended up buying the Equinox 2RS with Super Cruise, FWD. It's an excellent car. I think there are two schools of thought when it comes to EV power delivery. Enthusiasts naturally love the instant acceleration, but I think most people, who would be moving from an ICE vehicle, would prefer their EV's to accelerate more like the cars they're used to (what Doug calls "fine".) People like familiarity. My guess is that Chevy is marketing the Blazer to the average buyer. The SS will be for the enthusiasts.
I wonder what insurance companies are making of the instant acceleration ? p.s. Your comment reminds me of a former colleague who said his Mother test drove a Golf VR6 not realising it was supposed to be a performance car.
@@MrDuncl -- My guess is they're erring on the conservative side, meaning slightly more pricey. I think once they have enough actuary data insurance will go up. I also think the cost of body repair on some of these vehicles (think Cybertruck & it's 1 piece stainless steel panels) are going make their insurance skyrocket.
It's smart that they will be making a front wheel drive version though, most normal drivers really don't know how to handle RWD cars with 300hp without getting the rear end loose. Having all 3 styles of drive optional is a good move, imo, as it will be desirable to more demographics. I still wouldn't ever buy one of these in any case tho. 🤣
It depend on who you're marketing to. But yeah, there are enthusiasts that crave performance, and those that are just look for a good reliable transportation. On the other hand, with an EV its really not that much of a challenge to have both. After all, most cars already come with an Eco/Sports mode. These just don't have as big a gap between the two.
You said closing the hatch does not lock the car. Does it UNLOCK when you OPEN the hatch in the first place? My Bolt basically doesnt connect the two; the doors are locked, unlocked and opened with the fob; however the hatch opens when you push the button (assuming you have the fob) regardless of the lock state.
Fun fact; the platform this vehicle sits on is the exact same as the one the upcoming Honda Prologue will sit on! GM is sharing this 6 lug chassis with Honda for their new EV
I purchased the 2024 Blazer RS for 47,095. I have received many complements on the look of the car, it is a great looking car. The interior has a two tone black/red, very nice and tech is good. I don't believe any EV will compare to this car at $47,095 from my time looking at other EV's. I would highly recommend to go out and look and drive the Blazer and compare, GM did a good job with this EV.
I don’t understand how GM can ask $56k starting for this, if you can get a Mach E starting at $42k or a model Y for around $45k, both of which with better numbers
They offer you this in red and front wheel drive, or they offer it in blue with rear wheel drive -- OR you can get the white with all wheel drive BUT you lose the horsepower and range, and it the future they will keep two of these with the same name, although they have nothing in common... j/k, great review Doug, it's just that these trims are kind of confusing.
Well it certainly works, use an iconic name to get sales and as long as the vehicle is good, I see no problem. It’s not made for enthusiasts, it’s made for regular people.
@@Bobspineable I know but why couldn't Chevrolet have done the same thing with the Blazer like what Ford did with the Bronco. 4:30 - likely an off the shelf hub for GM, 6 lugs are fitted to the current generation ICE Blazer and yes, they are found on their older Commercial Vans going back 10 years. don't know the Bolt Circle dimension but i would assume all 3 are the same.
The interior design is the 1 thing they got right with this vehicle....it would be nice to have other 2-tone options other than red without having to settle on plain black, though. Green and black, or blue and grey would be nice alternatives.
Another advantage of the display mirror is the camera is less susceptible to getting dirty or frosting up than the rear window. BUT if you are using bifocals, the display is a pain because you have to refocus close to your face which involves moving your entire head vice just your eyes when using a normal mirror.
Doug the type of guy to try and make the case for spending $6k more when you're already spending $60k. And since we're now at $66k, that's just $34k from $100k, and $100k is 10% of $1mil. So you might as well spend the million since it's such a good deal.

Wow, 8:15 low $60k and feeling content with rear AC vents 😢

This company has been so poorly mismanaged for decades, and the Blazer is yet another sad low point in a series of missed opportunities.
at least there sports cars have been pretty good. Thats all american cars are good for anyway also why they stopped selling sedans😂

Because of that we get MORE POWER because a 400hp EVs sells better than a 200hp one.
range isnt that big deal for me but the charging time like from 10->80% in 30mins thats still way to long, compared to a gas car especialy for longer trips
be quiet with that kind of logic ill never keep up with the jonses and put my family in generational debt.!!😠
Smaller cars are the ways to go in general, but it seems americans love their big trucks and SUVs.

Enthusiasts don't buy evs.
