    What happens after receiving a job offer from the federal government? Is it a quick or long process? In this video, I discuss a lot of what to expect after you are sent your tentative government job offer. There are a lot of documents to fill out, appointments to make and decisions to think through. The entire federal hiring process can be confusing and complicated at times but with the correct information and expectation, I think you will get through it with less stress and more understanding. Have you received a government job offer yet? Let me know in the comments.

    Great points! I wouldn't even mention how many pages the standard forms have. Can be discouraging. It depends on if you answer yes to every question. Also, I don't know any agencies that aren't using e-QIP or NBIS to have the forms done electronically. It can actually be fairly easy depending on the person's history. Looks like the forms are changing again.
    The other thing that can slow the process down is if the person doesn't meet the requirements to onboard BEFORE the background investigation is completed. At that point, let the waiting games begin 🤣.

    Great and accurate information. I don't know if the video got cut off, but you only covered the Tentative Job Offer (TJO). The employee is not hired until he/she goes thru the whole TJO process and accepts the final (second) offer.

    Armand, would you happen to know what kind of background investigation/suitability is used for a Mission Support Specialist at CBP. I've looked around and there is no clear answer. The disclaimer given is that it could take months or some say it's only 5 days to 3 weeks. Thank you!

    I switch to the GS side week from tuesday. I had a situation where I received a tentative job offer for a Gs-5 step 8. A week after I had already accepted the GS-5 I received another tentative job offer for a GS-7. now the GS7 was the grade i was aiming towards and i had a tough call to make. I ended up declining the GS7 mainly because the cost of living at the location the gs7 was at was too expensive. So I stuck to the GS 5 job instead at a location where cost of living is cheaper. Now with the wg position I was getting my step 4 increase. I mentioned that to HR during the pre employment phase before getting the final job offer. I sent hr the updated sf50 with the pay increase and they changed me from gs5 step 8 and I got maxed out at step 10. I report for the new job on 17 January. EOD is 15 January. I am looking forward to embark on the new adventure as part of the job is requiring me to leave my current state I'm in which is ok with me. I was ready to move to a new location anyway.

So I applied again while waiting on the referred jobs which is the same job, the most current application one came back that I did not qualify??? Why if I’m in the refered for the same previous job I applied. I try to reach out to the contact email and have not got a response. This is all since fed. 2023????

    If you accept multiple offers that requires all of them to have top secret clearance, does that mean you have to fill the 100+ page form multiple times?

    I have a DoD Secret clearance because I used to work at an FFRDC. I just took a contract role with the Dept of Energy and I will have to get a public trust. Would I qualify for reciprocity?
    Also, does the DOE ever hire contractors as federal employees. I want to transition into becoming and federal employee ultimately.

    • @armandcuret1
      @armandcuret1  ปีที่แล้ว

      A public trust is usually not as intensive as a secret clearance, but they will probably have you do another background check on you.
      Yes, most federal agencies will hire contractors provided they are highly qualified applicants.

    I think you could help me with this question because this whole channel is about it and it had taken me until now to realize it.
    What is one way governments (in general) could advertise their hiring job positions? I find the state government I work in has a ton of vacancies and I am looking to suggest a way they could go about filling them.
    The government always wants a top notch pool of people to select from, but to even get that pool they need to advertise. Should they advertise at job fairs. Should they sponsor restaurants or other employers in their area to help in filling job positions.
    Not too many people are going to be dedicated enough to search a government website for jobs. That is just "too much" work. They need to make it easier.

    • @armandcuret1
      @armandcuret1  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that many people don't know that public sector opportunities exist. I believe local governments should partner with high schools, community colleges and universities to explain the opportunity that exists with government employment. Also, a small but dedicated social media awareness campaign could result in higher quality applicants.

    Hey man appreciate your time just had a quick question. I received a final job offer even have a start date but a few days ago an investigator came to talk to me about some stuff they found in my background from when I was a juvenile. I am a bit concerned now because I have a start date and out my 2 weeks at my current employer. Can they come back and decline the offer or take it back?

    • @armandcuret1
      @armandcuret1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Anything can happen, especially before your EOD (Entry on duty). However, I think it would be unlikely for the agency to go back on their offer unless you are no longer qualified for the job. For example, if you lied about a serious issue and the adjudicator does not approve your clearance. In this example, the job requires a clearance and your inability to hold a clearance would make you ineligible for the job.

    Can I accept more than one TJO even if I am Schedule A? How does time in grade come into play?

    • @armandcuret1
      @armandcuret1  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, you can.
      If you started a job such as GS-11 today and then accept a GS-12 tomorrow, sometimes you can be subjected to the "Time in Grade" rules. However, if the other position is "open to the public" then you could still accept it.
      Also, it depends on what hiring path was used in the job your started working in.

    I currently work for the USPS and I applied for a position with the Social Security Administration and the IRS. Will I need any clearance for those jobs? Will the background the USPS did suffice or will I need to do it all again? How often do Federal employees get raises or step increases?
    Thank you.

    • @wewhoareabouttodiesaluteyo9303
      @wewhoareabouttodiesaluteyo9303 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Federal governments do a very intensive background check if I am not mistaken (criminal, social media, may even send an agent to your house and follow you in everyday life until you get the job(kidding), etc.. I know for state government they only look at criminal history. If they had done social media, there would be a chance I would not have received an offer.

    • @armandcuret1
      @armandcuret1  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The federal agency (SSA or IRS) would run another background check after you accept the tentative job offer. The depth of the background check would depend upon the job. On the job announcement under "security clearance" it will probably say "public trust" and the level of risk. I highly doubt you would need a security clearance to work in the majority of positions at the SSA or IRS.
      I have a clearance/background check video coming out in a couple of weeks that should help.
      Federal employees receive step increases every 12 months for the first three steps and then it is every 24 months for the next three steps and 36 months for the last 3 steps. Thanks for watching!
