@@brianwillson9567 how about a new build barclay 0-4-0st, this would result in a small loco with a comedic length of name plate if we use his full titles, this would also be befitting because they're common as muck so it would be really nothing special other than the name and titles it carries, this would be reflective of the position he finds himself in. Also it's a very fitting cheap snd chearful loco to build in these hard economic times.
I was told by her builders that 2007 isn’t named after our new King. She is named after the title not the person who holds the title (if you know what I mean)
Thanks for the video, it's very interesting and informative. It is instructive to see one of these engines without the firebox/boiler installed. Also no steam valve chests. The fun thing for us here in the US is the difference between the size and layouts of towns. Even our small towns here have much wider roads. But then, we do tend to much bigger vehicles. Why to move that there engine around in these parts we would just pop it into the back of one of our pickup trucks. 😁 That moving rig is quite interesting, there are only two axles that don't steer. Was it custom built for this project? There is after all not a lot of commercial work moving steam engines around.
About the trailer that carrids the Prince of Wales: its not a custom trailer, its a standard steerable lowboy trailer used for oversized loads used in Europe.
I just wish she was streamlined like the A4s, and her predecessors like my Hornby Railways model but still a fantastic job. Well done to all the builders.
IMPO, despite being a royalist, the name doesn't fit, id rather they called it after any of the original names... But, Wolf of Badenoch, would be my favourite !
I don't really think any new-build should take the name of a lost original class member, but I agree it would have been better to follow the pre-existing P2 naming tradition using nicknames of notable Scottish political figures. I had in mind 'The Young Pretender' which would have been a quirky nod to the fact that the loco won't really be as old as it seems. As to ever rebuilding it in A4 outline, nu-uh, the original P2 outline is the best and only acceptable outline for a P2. Otherwise it would just look like an overly bewheeled A4.
Yes, it will. It's going to run on British Rail Mainlines... There's a couple of videos I saw that mentioned this. Lawrie's Mechanical Marvel's I think was one of the channels...
I thought they said it'll be able to do the same routes as Tornado so i thought it could do heritage lines but maybe they meant in terms of loading gauge and size rather than weight. 🤗
Good video a pity it is taking so long to build the boiler ,surely a company here in the UK could have built it esp' with all the modern tech' at their disposal
Could have, but then wouldn't have had the supplier network behind them already, nor a workshop set up for the task. The people making it now have the staff used to the job, the workshop ready equiped for the specific tasks involved and relationships in place with the suppliers needed. All that costs money to put in place and probably involves some dreaded consultants coming in to ramp the price up ever higher. It's also no small point that you don't need a boiler until you have a cylinders to put the steam into. Having it too soon means it just takes up space waiting for the rest of it to be done which involves added costs of moving it every time it's in the way or a site move takes place, cranes aren't cheap. So nice as it would be to see it made in the UK it's less than ideal in reality.
It would have taken much longer in the U.K. given that those who have the capability to build just one boiler already have huge backlogs of work let alone build two boilers required. Plus with Meiningen, the trust already has a great working relationship with them and the works has the capability to be working on the two new boilers to simultaneously (staggered initially though as tornados original boiler was overhauled at the same time as the P2 boiler is being built).
In America that would be termed a "cute little Mike". Britain has always sufferred from too restrictive a loading guage resulting in locomotives with too much power and too little weight leading to a poor adhesion factor and slipping. As an enthusiast of steam power in all of its' forms I wish this project the best of luck and a great outcome. Look forward to seeing it run.
